STRENGTHS
  • Heavy Armament: For a relatively small, basically stationary defense platform, it carries a rather large number of concussion missiles and proton torpedoes which can be fired at incoming ships at range. It also boasts a twin-linked fully rotating turbolaser battery.
  • Power Saving Mode/Solar Power Generation: When there is no threat apparent, the orbital satellite can close itself up and enter a kind of standby mode to conserve power and make itself smaller so as not to be an impediment to normal system traffic. When active, the fins extended have an array of solar panels that help to keep the satellite powered during operation and to recharge the battery.
WEAKNESSES
  • Small: This satellite is small and designed to function as part of a large network of identical, or similar type defense satellites all receiving targeting orders from a central source. A single satellite on its own is very little threat to most military vessels.
  • Low Maneuverability/Low Speed: This satellite has only a very basic ion propulsion drive and thruster assembly, enough to allow a defense network to move and shift as needed, but only at a very slow rate.
DESCRIPTION
(Describe some of the history behind the submission. Please provide a detailed account or link of each special feature that is listed in this submission. Give us some idea of how it might perform its function, what it excels against and what some limitations of it are. This is where you talk about your idea, flesh it out over at least a good-sized paragraph, and address some of the ways it might be used or abused. All miscellaneous descriptive elements go here, such as Cargo Capacity, Passengers, Consumables, Crew, etc. For especially powerful or ambitious submissions, a very thorough description is recommended.)
