PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Coil/Pulse Rifle
  • Size: Average
  • Weight: Very Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: 10mm Mag-pellet Slugs and a separate power cell used to charge the magnetic coils
  • Ammunition Capacity: Average (30 rounds)
  • Effective Range: Average
  • Rate of Fire: Average
  • Stopping Power: High
  • Recoil: Low
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Super-heated Mag-pellet Projectiles: When the trigger is pulled, the ferrous-magnetic pellet-known as a Mag-pellet, is chambered from the magazine. It is then magnetically propelled down the barrel by three sets of magnetically charged coils. As the pellet passes through each set of coils, it gains speed at an exponential rate. While it travels, the coils alternate their current rapidly causing the pellet temperature to rise until it is a superheated ball of plasma upon exiting the end of the barrel. The magnetic charge of the superheated particles serves to keep the plasma together until it impacts against it's target.
STRENGTHS
  • High Stopping Power: The exponentially increased rate of speed at which the superheated Mag-pellet leaves the barrel of this weapon provides a very powerful impact for a weapon of its size.
  • Low Recoil: The heavy weight of the projectiles being fired serves to steady the weapon, giving it a low recoil for a weapon with such a high stopping power.
  • Rugged: All of the components have been built to be extremely durable. Because this weapon does not require oxygen to fire, it can be fired in a vacuum, while underwater or in many differing types of atmospheres.
  • Insulated: The internal circuitry in this weapon has been insulted using an Inert Power Insulator material. This projects the weapons electrical components from surges of electro-magnetic energy like those associated with ION weapons and makes the weapon highly resistant to any attempt to disrupt its operation via energy dampening fields and the like.
WEAKNESSES
  • Very Heavy: While the average weight of most rifles is six to seven pounds (3-4kg), this weapon weighs approximately twelve pounds (6kg) unloaded and nearly fifteen pounds (7.2kg) loaded. This is a result of the powerfully dense materials that are used in the construction of the Mag-pellets and the magnetic coils as well as the additional Beskar alloy plating around the inside of the barrel, which is used to protect the weapon from the super-heated plasma it propels. This makes the weapon feel strange and unbalanced to those who are untrained in its use.
  • Additional Power Cell: In addition to the Mag-pellet magazine, this weapon also requires an additional power cell in order to produce enough power to begin the coil firing process. While these power cells do not have to be changed as regularly as the mag-pellet magazines, they do have to be changed. This can cause additional delays in reload times.
  • Slow Firing: This weapon fires more slowly than most chemically propelled projectile weapons and blasters. This is because of the slight lag time required when the Mag-pellet is being cycled through the coils. This makes anything other than semi-automatic fire problematic for the time being.
DESCRIPTION

Based on the technology developed for the OS-126 10mm Pulse Pistol, the OS-127 Rifle variant also fires a super-heated, super-heavy, magnetically charged pellet through a series of coils. The weapon can match the stopping power of most heavy blaster rifles while still creating a dense enough projectile that makes deflection via lightsaber difficult to impossible. The weapon boasts a very high stopping power and low recoil, but at the expense of being rather heavy and unbalanced and a lower rate of fire.
