Strengths:
- Retractable blade – the OS-101 has the ability for the user to expand or retract the blade into the hilt. This allows for the user to field a full length vibro-sword, while having the concealability and ease of storage of a much smaller weapon.
- Lightweight – because the OS-101’s blade is fashioned out of hollow pieces of tempered durasteel, it is much lighter than most fixed bladed weapons of similar length while maintaining the same sharpness and cutting ability of most fixed bladed weapons of comparable size.
- Complicated – the OS-101 is a complicated weapon made up of a large number of moving parts. As is often the case, the more complex a piece of machinery the more that can go wrong. While all sold models have been hand tested for quality, malfunctions including jams and circuitry failure have been known to occur at a much higher rate than that of fixed bladed weapons of similar ilk. Owners and operators of these weapons must become familiar with the various maintenance regimens that this weapon requires, or risk having an operational failure occur at the wrong moment.
- Weakened Integrity – the OS-101’s blade is constructed from a series of tempered durasteel plates around an intricate servo-motor system. When fully expanded, the weapon boasts the sharpness and cutting capacity of fixed blade weapons of similar size and design, but its blade strength is far less. This is an assassin’s weapon, designed for quick strikes against soft, exposed targets (such as flesh). Against other melee weapons, the blade has been shown to be fragile and has been proven to break on several occasions when coming into repeated contact with fixed blade weapons of similar design.
- Susceptible to Anti-electronic Countermeasures – Because the OS-101 operates using a series of tiny servo-motors and circuitry to power the retraction mechanism of the blade, devices such as EMP which would leave other electronics useless, will also render the OS-101 unable to activate. If this occurs when the sword is fully expanded, the weapon would still be usable, but it would be unable to retract itself. If this occurs when the blade is retracted, then it would be rendered entirely useless.
Description
The OS-101 Retractable Vibro-sword is a hand-held weapon in which the user has the ability to expand or retract the blade by pushing a button located on the hilt. The blade is constructed using finely molded plates of tempered durasteel which, when expanded using Obsidian Star’s patented micro-servo technology, form a slightly curved blade with a length of 45cm. When retracted, the entirety of the blade is held within the 10cm long hilt making it easy to conceal and carry. In total, the weapon weighs approximately 454 grams. The OS-101, like all weaponry manufactured by Obsidian Star, is designed for those operators in need of specialized gear and is not suitable for mass production.
