“Caluula? In the Tion Hegemony? Could you have picked a more out-of-the-way planet?”
― Leia Organa Solo

‘Caluula was a planet that made up part of the Kingdom of Cron and later Xim's empire during the Pre-Republic era. After the empire's collapse, Caluula became part of the Tion Hegemony.

Near the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Yuuzhan Vong conquered the planet and sent approximately one-third of its population to Coruscant for sacrifice. The planet was the site of a battle between the Yuuzhan Vong and the Galactic Alliance.

In 29 ABY, the Yuuzhan Vong occupying the world were themselves killed as the first test subjects of Alpha Red. Despite assurances from its largely Chiss creators that Alpha Red was harmless to all flora and fauna indigenous to the galaxy, the Vong-targeting virus mutated during its test deployment on Caluula and began to decimate the native flora and fauna, wiping out the planet's rare Winged-Star insects.’

Sorel read the official blurb on the planet that now appeared in front of her as she exited hyperspace. It was not the best advert for potential tourists – but given she was not here on holiday, she paid the lack of hype no mind. She was here with her Padawan, [member="Krass Wyms"] and they were on a mission.

Objectives:

1. The Winged-Stars
Once feared extinct – these winged insects are now growing steadily in numbers. This year marks the once in every three-century natural phenomenon called the Nocturne of the Winged-Stars. However, intelligence suggests a potential threat to them from a fanatical conservation group that believes that extinct species should remain extinct

2. Alpha Red pathogen
The original virus, designed to wipe out the Yuuzhan Vong, was known to have mutated. Intelligence suggests a group of scientists working for a wealthy crime syndicate have identified the site of a fossilised remain on Caluula that could lead to the re-emergence of the pathogen, with the highest bidder getting to choose which race they wished to commit genocide on

3. Chazrach
Bred in large numbers as expendable support troops, they served the Yuuzhan Vong. Over the centuries since the Vong left, a small number remained and have grown in numbers and are now posing a threat to Caluula settlements. The aim is not to kill them, but to find a solution that safeguards the locals and respects the Cahzrach’s right to life

4. Caluula Station
There exists a replica of the space station once known as a haven for spacers in need of spare parts and environmental scientists who came to study the world it orbited. Why not frequent the cantina ‘Garray’s Retreat’ and break up a bar fight, or get your ship repaired or just hang out with friends on the station

5. Bring your own objective
Feel free to do anything that takes your fancy

She pulled her cloak around her body as best she could as the wind high in the mountains buffeted her body. There is a chill up here on the wind but nothing in comparison to the likes of Midvinter, but in her condition she had to protect herself and the baby. Now, Coci was entering the last period of her pregnacy and so she could not wear anything to protect her body in the way of armour or the like but the Silver Jedi do have other robes that are strong and able to aid her. Thanks to Master [member="Matsu Ike"].

This planet has a strange but interesting history to it, so much open to those that come here to find means in which to make a profit or instigate ill intent and so when Master [member="Sorel Crieff"] informed her of the possibility of such an occurance in the form of a criminal group searching for the strand of pathogen, Coci would lead a team to investigate.

This planet is also steeped in high mountains, the terrain vast and unaccommodating to those that come here and not made easy for the like of her in her state. Or to land a ship, which sat at an odd angle behind her and it would soon take off leaving them behind to continue onward.

A group of hand picked Rangers had formed up close by, gathering their equipment and readying for the march over the terrain. This would be difficult for her, she knew this but duty comes first, and it always would. Coci also remember the past well enough, when pregnant with Theo she had almost lost their lives on a mission and Thurion had to finally put his foot down and stop her. Ordering her to take time off, and so Coci did not wish to repeat that event but thinking of it made her smile regardless.

Once the team was ready they would all move out.

Krass was more then happy to come and work with her master, it was one fo the few times where they were able to well bond but also was a chance that they would be going off towards the area itself. "Master I am here." she was looking at it with a grin on her face before she stayed there, in her robes, with her saber on her hip with some of the equipment they were able to bring out when she had a new hardlight decoy that they would be abel to use in case there was a risk of danger. She had the rest of their equipment along with a few other things where they were getting to look at more of it until the small padawan spoke bowing to see her master with a look on her face. "Mater I am here and prepared for anything we might find."

As eager as Arisa was to run down the Sith, especially as they now sat divided among several factions, she decided it was best to pull back for now and attend to her other duties to help bring up the next generation of Silver Jedi. As much as she hated pulling back at this point, it was important to impart her experiences so that they wouldn't be lost in the event of her death.

Returning to Voss, she found her peers about to launch another expedition to the planet of Caluula, an Outer Rim world overrun with problems. The counter-terrorism operation to retrieve the Agent Red samples was something right up the Watchman's alley as an investigator, but she found the Chazrach migrant issue something that would serve as a better backdrop for the instruction of her first official padawan, [member="Wu[/FONT][FONT=georgia] Yeoh"]. A nice lesson in conflict resolution. First and foremost, Jedi were keepers of the peace, and that did not always need to be accomplished by blaster or blade.

While on approach to
Cathuul, she decided to take the time to run Wu through some drills to test her burgeoning skills in the Force. Things would begin simply, with a few training lightsabers and a drone.

Wu was staying there as she allowed the force to breathe around herself here. So she had been practicing with the force and allowing the lessons she had been learning to move her. She stood there with a look on her face in the robes while she looked at what they would be doing. Something dangerous could be happening, something that threatened all of the people out here and she would be needing to work with her master to try and help stop it. Wu was short and prepared looking at her master when she was looking over at some of the things. "I am here and ready master." Staying there until the padawan had the pieces of equipment prepared for herself.

Arisa could feel much disquiet within Wu as her apprentice joined her inside the gymnasium, her attention split even as she declared a state of readiness. As novice Force Sensitives became more adept at tapping into the Force, they would often begin to run into the problem of their minds wandering as they became more connected with their surroundings, the issue exacerbated while anxious or otherwise overly emotional. Part of the early phase of training was showing initiates and Padawans how to effectively filter outside influence to maintain their concentration.

"No, not quite yet," Arisa said, shaking her head. "You need to reel your thoughts back and focus on the task at hand. Do not dwell so much on your anxieties, but take their warnings as motivation to train and study to the fullest, so that when the time does come to face your problems head-on, you will be prepared."

"For the time being, your world begins and ends within the confines of the gym. Nothing outside of the bounds of these walls matter. Take some time to center yourself and meditate if needed, then we'll begin with some warm-up drills."

The Avogwi pressed through the wind. Talons dug deep into dirt and latched around stones as the mere thirty pound bird was battered by the winds. Her wings stayed folded firmly to her back so they wouldn't be caught by a hard billow.

"Think we had to land this far away? Going to be tiring with this wind. If it's blowing towards our objective I could probably be there in under five minutes with a sensor or something." she said loudly to Coci with some hint of annoyance in her voice.

Back home on Altor the winds often got high but usually blew out fairly quickly and was far more dispersed. The open plains, twin suns, and hilly terrain meant that thermals could easily be ridden and am Avogwi could just glide if it was tired. This high mountain wind however was biting and being far more used to reading air currents compared to the other Jedi she could tell it would be hard flying for anything. The wind acted like a fast flowing stream in these mountains, it collided with rock, bounced off cliff faces, and took a life all its own that was hard to predict unless you knew what you were doing or had sensors to automatically adjust a ships landing angle.

After a lengthy and productive interrogation session with a group of captured terrorists, Arlen was now on the hunt for the genophage they had attempted to acquire, Agent Red in their ongoing attacks against the First Order. Bioterrorism was a particularly insidious form of attack as it required little in the way of infrastructure or delivery. Once Pandora's Box was open, it would be hard to close, particularly in this case as the virus had a record of having uncontrollable mutations. In the wrong hands, an outbreak could easily escalate into another Gulag Plague. However, in the right hands, it could be something more.

Through underground contacts, the agent worked her way into the upcoming auction under an alias by masquer, traveling to the Outer Rim world with little fair aboard a modified light YT freighter at local starport near the site of the auction, little more than just a just a landing strip with a few hangars. While still in the air, she quietly deployed a series of DRK-1 probe droids to keep surveillance on the whole area. The Sith only had some token security to maintain appearances as an arms dealer, so it was paramount that she ensured she wasn't caught off guard while she conducted her business on Caluula.

There was nothing else to do at the port after deploying the probes, so she would quickly gather a team to disembark to the final location by landspeeder. Still having no idea whether or not she was beng bamboozled, she directed a probe to scout ahead and check out the coordinates to make sure there wasn't anything fishy going on while she saddled up with her crew.

Hopefully, this mission would be short and sweet. She'd go in, grab the samples, and perhaps grab her a few of the other patrons for extraction back to First Order space. No doubt anti-FO terrorists would be present for the bidding.

"They couldn't even get you a name? A location? Anything useful?"

"That's why you're here, Korus."

"Why, because I'm a Balosar? That's xenophobic. Some kind of boss you are."

"Actually, I was thinking more on your past. Now that you've brought it up though, they might trust you more because you're a Balosar."

"Right, because everyone trusts the Balosar."

"Who's the xenophobe now? You're an obvious outsider. Not beholden to anyone here. Obviously not a Jedi."

The Balosar sighed. He'd known what he was going to be doing when heading into it, but the banter made him feel better. Didn't calm him down, that was the wrong way of saying it, but it made him feel more normal. That he was talking to his boss's boss didn't much change his attitude, it just just ingrained with him. Maybe the smart mouth a holdover from his past, maybe a natural character flaw. As long as he did his job, Audren didn't much care about the smart remarks.

The Jedi were paying attention to Caluula now. For such a small, out of the way planet there was quite a bit wrong with the place. A potential resurgence of Alpha Red, a potential Chazrach onslaught, a threat to wipe out the winged-star insects once thought extinct, and more. On the surface, these were not galaxy-shaking issues. The winged-stars had been thought extinct centuries ago and that any had survived to continue their species was astounding...but a curiosity. The Chazrach had once been the feared shock troops of the Yuuzhan Vong, but their numbers were just now growing to the point to threaten the other inhabitants of this planet...not even close to a galactic concern for the next several decades. An Alpha Red resurgence could cause issues, given its propensity to mutate, but it would have to be reconstructed first, then produced in massive enough quantities to affect anything. That was if it even was true.

There'd been no lack of volunteers. As expected, the Chazrach and Alpha Red had been the most popular, but Audren had grabbed the insects. Not because he cared about bugs, but just because. Heck, maybe he was a bit curious to see how they'd survived. Or if they had, it wasn't unheard of to drop re-seed a population using cloning. But xenocide was wrong, and now that the insects had returned then they'd not be easily wiped out again.

He'd started by splitting up a couple teams. Entymologists would find some of the samples of the winged-stars and run their own scans on them. In the meantime, various sources would find the conservation group that wanted to retain the extinction status. They weren't criminals until they actually started killing the bugs, and even then there were technicalities. Arresting them was not really an option, but arresting them also wouldn't solve anything. They needed to change their minds. A difficult task when it came to fanatics.

"Unfortunately, this was the best place to land the ship considering the terrain. The further onward the mountains get steeper and do not afford a resonable landing area. If the wind is favourable for you please do go on ahead and scout the area. Intelligence suggests there is a rift within the mountains and it is there that we will find our target. It is isolated and there is no clear path into the rift so some eyes in the sky would be most handy".

The Ranger gave Coci the nod to inform her they were ready to move out just before handing a sensor to Vitha. "Onward and upward", she said to make light of the situation, as she pulled her cloak closer to the body and began the trek. Three Rangers move on ahead, scouting the way as best they could to find the easier route. Scanners constantly feeding data and keeping track of their progress to their destination.

She was looking at her master as the woman spoke and there was a small look on her face. She had been prepared for any of it, ready to really work on what they would be able to figure out here. So she let it all bleed away from her, she let all of it seep from her mind and then wash away so that she would be able to be quiet. ready. prepared for anything with a small nod of her head until the jedi padawan was no longer worried or prepared for anything; There was just the area in the gym around her and her master. They would be abel to do what they needed to and she would be the small shortround helping out the hero. "Understood master, I am ready."

It was surprising that they would let in an Atrisian such as herself inside of the frigate. If anything, Akiyama thought that she was going to be rejected, if worse, shot on sight. She could tell that there was indeed some sort of battle going on here. With her armour inside of her ship, and most of her other equipment other than her Vibrokatana, Akiyama exited the ship and glanced around. Apparently, her guest was not really hostile, as she saw no one attempt to arrest her. The Atrisian glanced around the frigate, impressed by it's size. The sheer size alone of this ship was one that she never usually seen that often before. For all of her years, she had always had aspirations to one day see a sheer battleship. But this was amazing. Being in the middle of space did made her a little nervous however. But either or, it was still a nice feeling.

Taking hold of the sensor in her talons Vitha examined it. Wasn't to bulky and would be fairly easy to carry around. Gripping it none to gently she looked back at Coci. "The wind is always favourable, just a matter of adjusting to it." she says and takes off.

Buffeted the Avogwi's tail flicks constantly adjusting her angle into the wind to the point where she crabs at a diagonal. Heading towards the location where this research place was supposed to be she took full advantage of the peaks and hills that littered the ground and channeled the air upwards allowing a significant amount of lift. Taking all this into account Vitha estimated she would be in the vicinity of the target in a few minutes.

Sorel turned to face Krass. “There are a good few reasons to be here,” she tapped her datapad at this point and a holo-display appeared, listing the Silver Jedi’s objectives. “Each has its merits and drawbacks and we should choose to engage where we can make maximum impact but also where you will gain value too.”

She looked at Krass again, “And for this reason, I have provisionally accepted a mission that does not appear on this list. Instead I wanted to pick up a challenge that is in some ways off-the-books. We have intelligence that due to a lack of external interest in this planet, certain illegal activities have been centred here, or more specifically there.” At this point she indicated the space station that was becoming visible through the cockpit window.

“Illegal game traders have made this a local base of operations and our presence here will drive them underground. We will never have a better chance to stop them, given they are still quite visible. And you can guess which game they have been collecting from the planet to sell off-world. So, what are your thoughts?”

Krass was looking at her master and she was giving it an idea here where that she would be able to work on a few things. There were some questions about illegal game that they would have to work on but she had a few ideas about where they could start and if there were any creatures they came across... well she had some ideas of ways to work with that as they had the beast master talismans that the jedi had created. "Illegal game, we can do that master, there are some things made to calm and control creatures that might be dangerous just in case that w should bring. Generally only six talismen's are made and able to be used by a jedi padawan but the beast tamers in the silver jedi have made them to be some of the strongest in the galaxy."

Sorel smiled. The ingenuity of her Padawan never ceased to amaze her – and also her resourcefulness and knowledge too. Sorel knew it was only a matter of time before she would cease to be a Padawan and become a Knight.

“I agree with your approach,” she said. “We can deal with the smugglers and break up their little crime syndicate and hopefully at the same time consider how to manage the beasts that are terrorising the citizens on the planet below. Genocide is never an option, but we need to do something.”

"Much better now," Arisa complimented, offering a small smile. "Remember to at least try to get your bearings before any engagement. Now, let's begin."

With a mental command through her neural link, the hovering remote would drift forward as she took a few steps backward to create some space between them.

"I'd like to see how you've progressed in your technique since I while I was away. We're going to start out with Form I."

Form I was a fluid style that emphasized wide slashing techniques, reminiscent of the technique used for handling double-edged swords like Jian. The transition style had come about as result of the Jedi's initial experimentation in mastering the use of the lightsaber. It wasn't the most efficient way to handle the lightsaber, as the weapon worked under different mechanics, like a strong gyroscopic effect of the plasma loop instead of true counterweight, but it worked fine as a fallback style when nothing else would do. More importantly, Form I was a good way to introduce Padawan to lightsaber combat.

"For the next few minutes, I'm just going to have the remote try to tag you with its stun blaster. Try to deflect as many bolts as you can. I'll be keeping track."

It was a nice simple exercise just to get Wu warmed up, while allowing Arisa to continue making assessments for later instruction. Without warning, the remote started spit out a single blue bolt, aimed right for Wu's chest. Right after firing that first bolt, it darted off to her right side to let off another.

Wu was looking at her master as another person arrived, another padawan here they might not know but she was all about learning and maybe showing off to her master just a little what she could do. She had been working on the skills and attended one of the lightsaber training classes that the order was doing so that they could teach the padawans about different skills. With a nod of her head the small padawan gave a nod of her head moving to get into a proper postion. The training saber in her hands coming up as she gripped it firmly and licked the inside of her lip that was getting dry from being nervous. She was certain she could do plenty in practice and safety... that was easy. There was something about being in the field that could be a danger and a problem. "understood master." She was moving and looked at the remote as it fired and her saber raised. With a small look on her face when she moved to block and defend herself from the shot.

It was always a wonderful sight to watch Vitha take to the skies and before long she was out of range of Coci's sight and beyond into the mountains. Now it was her turn to get moving, it would take her considerably longer to get there and time was of the essence. Initially, the climb was not so arduous but as she moved upward the mountain side became much steeper and her descent slowed. Although Coci used the force to fuel her limbs, she had to be mindful of the fact she is carring a child.

She had ordered the Rangers to go ahead of her, who established holds in the more difficult terrain for her to find and made the climb much easier. It took her well over an hour before leveling off and finding what appeared to be a path worn in the rock face. Man made, and no doubt used to gain entrance into this part of the country.

Coci took a moment to catch her breath and she looked out over the surroundings, it was not an extraordinary place, dry and lacking any real growth of bushes or trees it was almost desert like, yet like any environment there is life. It was just all rock, grey and crumbly. Her head lifted to the sky to see if Vitha was to be sighted, she had not heard from her in this time, but the reports from her senors indicated they were moving in the right direction.

Krass was looking at her master and genocide wasn't an option even for creatures but doing something for it could mean killing them as a danger. Krass was looking at it when she had a small grin on her face where they were able to go. "Alright then master, we shall handle it and if the danger is to great we'll fid a way to handle the creatures. We also have some stunners and equipment that will disable many things. Krass herself was standing in her robes with the wirst pad appearing so she could access and have all of the information for themselves here, with the Library access from th AI's and the jedi database. Where they were wanting to see more parts of it while she requisitioned some of the beast talisman's to use, some stun grenades and some of the lure grenades for the creatures.
