Hey Gir Quee. My ships aren't using hyperlanes, for the very reason of avoiding the kind of stuff that you pointed out.

My point is, hes looking at the hyperlanes, meaning he wouldn't be looking in the right place (I am not saying what he did was impossible, just where hes looking it would. )
To answer your question, yes, it would mean longer time. But the Assault force was not pressured for time and needed surprise, especially against Gyndine.
I understand that you're not using major
hyperlanes such as the Nanth'ri Route or the Ootmian Pabol, which was the intent of my post.
My understanding is that you were taking "backroad routes" with hyperspace travel. Caius's analogy is pretty solid. Much like traveling on the g round in real life, hyperspace is not a realm that does not have obstacles or
hazards. This is a major reason why major hyperlanes exist. So if we have obstacles, but definition, there are only a set number of ways to go around them. And if you're trying to maneuver around multiple obstacles, your route options become more and more limited. These are routes that typically would be used by smugglers and the like, as alluded to by my post. Alternatively, you could try to take jumps around each obstacle, which would certainly be less predictable, would also take a lot longer time. And the longer amount of time that you spend in an enemy space (especially one as populated as the expansion region), the more likely someone will stumble across you.
But if you're not using hyperlanes or hyperspace travel of some sort, that means you're travelling solely at sublight speeds (in other words, no hyperdrive). If you're traveling at sublight speeds, this means that your ships have already been traveling for weeks on end in this hex. As with the argument about making a jump around each obstacle, I would argue that someone is bound to have stumbled upon your ships at least once by now, given the relatively large population of the Expansion Region and time your ships have been lingering there in our space.
