Official/Unofficial OOF (out of Factory) Discussion: The Undying

Two things.

One.... What the frell is this piss? I submitted a discussion about pseudo-superweapons weeks/months ago and was more or less politely told to shut up and go away. Those 'superweapons' were suppose to be fair and balanced and have limited power capabilities. Shutting down a planetary shield.... blowing up a single Star Destroyer in one shot, then having a very long cooldown... things like that. With severe limitations on range, accuracy, and cooldown/charge up times.

'Fleet Killer'? Really? Who even wakes up in the morning and thinks that that is a good idea? 'ship killer'? Sure, happy hunting. Work in some fair balances and have a ball.

Fleet Killer?

No. As someone who has had to drag his feet and fight tooth and claw to get ships and technology dragged through the factory without getting crippled by nerfs, and as someone who has violently opposed the 'denied on concept' ruling....

I'm officially requesting this ship be denied on concept.

Oh. And I almost forgot about point two. The quality and 'logic' behind the submission is almost laughably bad. The limitations state nothing about what needs to happen between those five posts before and after firing. With the way it's worded, you could crank out 5 posts in 12 seconds and fire the thing. And judging from what I've observed in the past from the OS and others... yeah... no. Also... The lack of explanation for what it is, how it works, what its limitations are, what it can and cannot hit, how a ship avoids it... Everything about the submissions just REEKS of "I want to have a toy where I can push a button and everything dies. I don't want to have to work for it and I don't want the enemy to be able to do anything to stop it or not get killed. I also don't want people to be able to "dodge it". So if I fire this and they try to survive, I'll just report them for not taking the hit."

Another thing... a "Hypermatter reactor that takes up most of the ship". Really people? For one, Ayden handed me my butt with my Concordia submission and firmly explained that a hypermatter core on a ship is extremely volatile and likely to explode. He made it clear that nearly any shit that comes close to the core enough to shake it decently will cause the whole ship to explode.... So... This "Undying" is actually kinda an amusing name. Because it would explode instantly any time a single Hypervelocity cannon hits it... anywhere on the hull. And, btw, I can guarantee you that is a hit the OS will never actually accept/take.

Anyway. I'll repeat myself. I'm going to go ahead and ask that this ship be denied on concept. I don't know who suddenly thinks full-bore superweapons are a good idea, and I don't know who the hell decided that the One Sith was the appropriate faction to get the first one... But it's a bad call. For one.... Because it is in no way fair and balanced for anyone else on the board. And because the faction being handed this thing has proven again and again to not care about other writers and that they will attempt to bully other writers and even staff members to get what they want.

They reported an RPJ because they didn't like getting told to take a hit. They kicked and screamed and complained because they wanted to do PVP fighting and someone else wanted to do Objective Fighting. They tried to force staff to change a rule because they wanted to be able to dictate what others had to do and endure.

I don't know who's ear they've been whispering into try and get themselves a superweapon, but it's a bad idea overall. And the submission itself proves that they have no intention of even attempting to be fair and balanced about it.

Your concerns have been noted.

One point of clarification: Superweapons are now acceptable with an Admin vote, and after extensive discussion (and everyone with a stake in this abstained) a large majority agreed to let the One Sith submit one after their dev threads concluded.

What you're talking about is basically going to be my evening.

Can I get some links/logs?

In reference to the kicking and screaming, that's just a dramatic description of what actually happened. Faction Admins have discussions, Faction Admins sometimes don't agree, Faction Admins will stand their ground until Staff intervention is forced. While not usually the preferred method of discussion, it is allowed, and Staff will be forced to make a decision based on the situation and what is provided.

Staff doesn't bow to any particular faction's demands. We make our own decisions. And Faction Admins are repeatedly reminded of this, regardless of where each Staff Member's IC allegiance lies. The only entity on the board who possesses the ability to change an entire Staff vote is the Board Owner, and that ability hasn't been used in our nearly 2 year long lifespan as a community with the exception of promoting people.

Its not necessarily the OS behavior here thats the issue here. I believe its the fact that this kind of weapon, its content, purpose, its make up, and the fact its a super weapon has up to this point flat out denied, and very quickly denied. Now, suddenly, its being considered. Just the act alone will be seen in the eyes of many as a double standard, even with the rule change.

The incident in question was under my alt, Popo, as the initial report was done by me. I can send you the discussion from the ruling RPJs, but the initial report and the report on the RPJ is not recorded on my accounts. The final decision was made by an Admin after the second report. That one you were present for within the PM.

Did i miss the memo on this?

Because I don't remember it being advertised. But that may be because I spend half my time ignoring stuff like this. *shrug* If it wasn't advertised, why wasn't it?

If it was advertised then I apologize, but this has gotten my attention. I completely trust [member="Ashin Varanin"] to make the right call on this, they've proven time and time again that they can look at this sort of stuff with a level head, so i'm not worried that if it passes, it will do so with huge restrictions. I'm also not interest in the behaviour aspect of the One Sith.

What does concern me is while [member="Tefka"] says staff doesn't bow, when you have the majority of the admins in the Faction that happens to be granted this superweapon, it looks a lot like favoritism, and that in my book is bad for a board administration team.

The two One Sith Administrators who voted at the time were forced to abstain during the vote.

Before every one say`s no deny and every thing else, can we at least see what the final out come is. After it`s be modified as any other ship does, and then if it passes. Then let`s see how it is used, and if no happy still it can be retrospectively denied like lot`s of other things

I am against this, it's no secret...there is a solution. Which might have been overlooked considering the past 24 hours.

Wow such an incomplete thought. I blame my running away train of thought. - For those who originally saw the first post :(

I recently developed something that the One Sith cannot possibly counter, The Stealth-X.

It is not impossible for a flight of Stealth-X fighters, completely stealthed transports which are modified by incom Corporation and made out the same was as the Stealth-X to raid this thing and destroy it before it even does anything.

I have been planning contingencies. Now don't get me wrongm I am afraid if we try this, the OS will simply try to "fly away". However, they would need to consider the heavy armament that the Stealth-X comes with and the abilities we as a collective mind have to counter such tomfoolery.

Just my thoughts if this does go through.

But yeah, I am not for it by any means but I am just looking at a solution to the problem should it arise. *shrugs*
