OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To sub the leader of the Shadow Knights.
  • Image Credit: Here. Found on yourcrew.mandategame.com. Unknown artist.
  • Role: Archon of the Shadow Knights. As Archon, Naesala is both political leader and commander-in-chief. This makes her Kaida Taldir's boss.
  • Links: Shadow Knights.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: 90
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Force User.
  • Species: Eldorai,
  • Appearance: Naesala is a tall woman with long dark hair. She has not gotten through her career unscathed and bears the scars of several battles. True to her background, she wears uniform, but a fairly informal one. It is a common soldier's uniform with her rank insignia stitched onto it. She has a collection of medals, but very rarely wears them. Her feet are tucked into practical boots. She wears armour in the field or if she expects combat.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Naesala Faethyra
  • Loyalties: Shadow Knights, Free Eldorai.
  • Wealth: Modest. The Shadow Knights are not wealthy and she is in it for the cause, not credits. Moreover, they have a maximum wage. So while her financial situation is decent, she is not rich.
Notable Possessions:
  • Silver ring bearing the signet of an Eldorai eagle. The ring is completely mundane. It is awarded to all Shadow Knight leaders as a symbol of rank and a means of identification.
  • Eldorai medals of valour and service.
  • Sarix
Skills:
  • Decades of experience as a soldier and officer. Decent command skills.
  • Political acumen and oratory
  • Decent shot and capable melee combatant
  • Tinkerer
  • Speaks and is literate in Basic, Eldarai and Huttese
  • Piloting non-fighter/interceptor craft.

Personality: Naesala Faethyra started out as a frontline soldier, but over the decades made the at times awkward transition from warrior to leader. It has not always been an easy one, and it takes her away from fighting more than she would have liked. However, her soldier's mentality has not completely left her. She has an aggressive attitude and expects the Shadow Knights to maintain iron discipline. She is a true believer in the principle that service guarantees citizenship, arguing that only those who have proven their willingness to place the community above themselves deserve authority.

Driven and passionate, she is a good public speaker. Her backgroud as a merchants' daughter exposed her to the outside world, causing her to see beyond the dogma propagated by the Church. Thus Naesala is willing to work with non-Eldorai outsiders, but only on terms she considers beneficial to her people. Unusual among the Eldorai, she's able to understand and converse in several alien languages since she spent a long time in exile. She is not afraid to make harsh, even ruthless decisions if needs be. Securing a future for her people takes precedence over other considerations. As Archon, she's executed fellow Knights for corruption, cowardice, treason and similar failings.

The relationship between Naesala and Kaida is at times an awkward one. With some justification, Kaida views herself as the superior commander. However, while the former Angelii High Captain is a strong warrior and experienced officer, she lacks charisma and is a bit of a martinet. Even her few friends describe her as chilly, domineering, prickly and stern. Her brutal fairness wins her respect, but not affection. Kaida is a Force-user, whereas Naesala is not.

Naesala's true strength is that of a leader, who has the willpower to push her agenda and keep a rather disparate coalition of rebels focused on the larger goal, but is also able to inspire and compromise when needed. She recognises that no leader, no matter how competent they are or consider themselves to be, can micromanage everything. So she is able to delegate, giving her subordinates operational freedom, while retaining overall control.

Naesala's and Kaida's divergent strengths and weaknesses complement each other well, but at the same time both elves are extremely willful and like having things their way. Naesala gives Kaida a degree of autonomy, valuing her competence. But she also makes sure to remind the frost elf that she is a recent convert to the Shadow Knights.

Unlike some of the Shadow Knights, Naesala is not a radical atheist. Rather she's a follower of the ancient Eldorai preacher Arryn, who was executed many centuries ago by the Eldorai state for the terrible heresy of proclaiming that the nature of the Goddess Ashira was not wholly divine, but also infused with the spirit of a mortal woman. Her attitude towards the religious question is to allow freedom of conscience and worship, provided this liberty is not abused to sow discord. This sets her apart from the more extreme revolutionaries. While she's faced criticism from them, this stance has allowed her to build bridges to splinter groups that would have otherwise been left out of the bloc of progressive Eldorai forces. When it comes to the Tygaran natives, Naesala does not have much of an opinion either way. She does not dismiss the Eldorai's 'cousins' as primitives, but does not feel obligated to 'uplift' and 'enlighten' them either. Or feel much kinship with them. If they can contribute, good.

COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Weapon of Choice: As the Shadow Knights' leader, Naesala is not expected to enter combat directly, using soldiers to do the fighting for her. But she can hold her own if needed. Lacking Force powers, Naesala must rely on conventional ranged and melee weapons such as blades, rifles, pistols, explosives and so on. Tends to carry a sidearm in form of a heavy blaster pistol, Magnetic Revolver or disruptor pistol, with a hold-out bolter or hold-out blaster as backup. Proficient in the use of a Sarix, as unlike with a lightsabre NFUs can use it. Fond of lightning gloves and power gloves.

Combat Function: Naesala is no longer a frontline soldier. Her primary job is to lead, to inspire, plan, pick the right tactical commanders and make sure that they and their troops are equipped with the right tools to accomplish their objectives - and to define said objectives and ensure that they are realistic. Thus she is not expected to lead the first wave for a trench assault or a boarding operation, though she has done so many times in the past as a junior officer.

Her separation from the action has dulled her reflexes and prowess somewhat. However, she maintains a tight regimen of fitness and continues to regularly train with pistol, rifle and blade. This enables her to fight should say her command post be attacked or ship boarded, and also to enter a battlefield herself should direct intervention prove necessary. Lacking preternatural powers, she must rely on technology and her own wits to survive on a battlefield. Being strong-willed, it is difficult to scare or mentally manipulate her. She has not gotten through battle unscathed, and her left arm is still somewhat numb from an injury sustained while fighting Archangel bots on Kaeshana. She has the standard racial weaknesses of an Eldorai, meaning that she is physically weaker than humans on average, has a lower pain threshold and a high metabolism.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Naesala was born in a time when Kaeshana's isolation broke down and the Eldorai were confronted with the greater Galaxy, which posed both great dangers and opportunities. Some foreigners came as peaceful merchants, allies and friends, others as rapacious slavers and villains. The question of how to deal with them would dominate Eldorai politics, exacerbating the tensions that already existed in the race.

Naesala's parents belonged to the middle merchant caste. Eldorai society possessed some rather feudal characteristics, and so the merchants was looked down upon. Naesala's parents were quite well-off and able to afford a male tutor for their daughter. To a degree, the suspicions of the highborn were correct, for her family was engaged in informal (illegal) trading with offworlders, at a time when the State Church of Ashira still propagated the old doctrine that all non-Eldorai were demons spawned by the Death Goddess Illyria.

Naesala helped in the family business and was exposed to offworlders at an early age. This broadened her horizons, as she knew that there was more than ghosts and demons out there. This would strongly influence her outlook and ultimately cause her to drift away from the Eldorai Matriarchy. However, she was still a patriotic girl, who received her education in a religious school, supplemented by what her parents taught her. Lacking Force potential, the upper ranks of Eldorai society were closed to her. Force-users, or Sciians as the Eldorai call them, occupied a privileged position in the Matriarchy, for their powers were seen as coming from the Goddess. Thus when the time came for her to serve the motherland, she was not eligible to join the Angelii.

Instead, she was conscripted into the regular army. There, she encountered stigma some stigma for being a 'grocer's daughter'. It awakened ambition inside her, especially since her older sister was supposed to take over the family business. Furthermore, pirate attacks and slaver raids had been hitting Kaeshana with increasing frequency. Like it or not, the greater Galaxy was taking an interest in the planet.

Over time, Naesala rose through the ranks, distinguishing herself in skirmishes with Eldorai rebels - the so called Dashdae or Dark Eldorai - and Kar'zun partisans. Bribes probably also played some role, as her family had access to some rare goods, helping secure her a place at the military academy. However, she won the soldiers' respect through bravery under fire, sharing the same risks as them and making an effort to improve their conditions. Eventually, she reached the rank of High Captain. Later on, she would complain about the highborn had it easier since their titles allowed them to gain command ranks without having to work for them.

Assigned to the Cilicia province, she was confronted with the foreign devils that menaced the Motherland so much. Kaeshana's isolation had protected its people and allowed them to evolve independently without foreign meddling, but also ensured that it was technologically behind the rest of the Galaxy. Sarixi and Sarzmigar were potent weapons, but Staser firearms were primitive and could not match blasters. Likewise, the Eldorai's personal armour was not built to resist modern blaster weapons. And so the Crimson Blade slavers attacked in great numbers, preying on the Eldorai's weaknesses. These Mandalorian warriors came to murder and pillage.

The military governor of the province, a scion of the Cadalthor clan, tried to oppose them, mustering her forces. Among those were the soldiers commanded by Naesala. They met the marauders in combat, but despite inflicting casualties on them, they stood little chance with their outdated weaponry. Naesala was injured by shrapnel from a frag grenade and disarmed, but managed to overcome a raider with a stolen blaster. Rallying what was left of her forces, she led a spirited charge to save Eldorai that had been taken captive. But the retreating raiders bombed the Eldorai with their gunships, dropping napalm along with high explosives. Injured during the bombing run, she awoke in a medical tent. Unsurprisingly, the Crown was most displeased with events. The Crimson Blade corsairs demanded a constant tribute, or else they would return.

Angry, vengeful and a bit desperate, Naesala decided to do the unthinkable and seek the help of outsiders. They were not demons, they were simply people from other worlds, and could be useful if they were treated as such. In order to prevail, the Eldorai had to adapt. The Goddess Ashira loved her children, so she would approve. So using the connections of her family enterprise, she reached out to a smuggler crew. Using these shady contacts, she procurred a few spaceships. They were nothing fancy, but would do the job. One of her contacts tipped her off about the fact that the marauders had built a base on one of the asteroids in the system.

After acquiring some modern weapons, she began her campaign, with the tacit support of Cilia's governor. As she lacked pilots, she paid the smugglers a considerable amount to fly the ships. The pilots deceived the marauders by claiming that they wanted to join them and had brought gifts for their commander. Then they used their ships' weapons to fire upon the raiders when their guard was down, enabling the Eldorai soldiers to land and get close enough for their Sarixi and Sarzmigar to take effect. Many pirates were slaughtered as the Eldorai took vengeance and rescued their brethren. Naesala made an effort to spare some of the corsairs, as she reasoned that they would reveal useful information while under interrogation. The battle was a great victory, but cost the Eldorai a considerable amount to pay to their offworld associates.

However, the reaction Naesala got at home was astonishing. In hindsight, she should have anticipated it though. When she arrived at the governor's residence to report her success and present booty in form of captured slavers and weapons, she was accused of treason and put in irons. The governor had tacitly approved her plan to get rid of the pirate problem that made her look bad at the Court of the Star Queen - and the Court of House Cadalthor - but now that she was no longer needed, framed her as a traitor. Her alliance with the outsiders was judged heretical (since offworlders were still considered demonic apparitions...officially anyway), and she was accused of organising the raid. The Ardarvian Priestess of her unit, who acted as a moral office/commissar, denounced her. Beatings and unpleasant interrogations ensued.

Due to the nature of the accusations, the Crown took an interest, which did not really agree with the governor, as it meant her own deeds might be investigated, too. She was stripped of rank, had her pension revokved and was put under 'Assisted Living'. This essentially amounted to house arrest until her illegal contact with unsactioned life forms beyond Kaeshana was investigated. Naesala was experienced enough to know that said investigations rarely ended well. They were generally a prelude to appearing before a kangaroo court and executed. She managed to slip out a message to her family, urging them to disavow her for their own sake.

With the help of a loyal subordinate, who as a lowborn had love for the aristos' power plays and whose brother had been rescued during the attack on the slavers, she managed to evade her guards and escape. Having been declared a nonperson, there was no place for her on Kaeshana. So she fled the planet, after breaking out one of the smugglers who'd been arrested in connection with the investigation. Ironically, the aristo who'd framed her fell from grace many years later when she backed the wrong party during the struggle for succession after the death of Star Queen Tirathana VI. She was quietly eliminated by Tarissa Cadalthor.

It is even more ironic that the Eldorai would soon accept the existence of outsiders after a Jedi-led expedition negotiated terms. But by then Naesala had built a new life in the stars. Adrift, she was thrust into an unfamiliar Galaxy. It was a scary experience, but also an opportunity. Angry at the betrayals, she hooked up with smugglers for a while, learning the basics of piloting, maintenance and so on. Eventually, she got her own ship and crew.

As great powers rose and fell, she became a mercenary in the Republic and the Mandalorians. She tried to find and reach out to other Eldorai exiles wherever possible, and was delighted that there were others who walked the same road. For the first time, she engaged those she'd once regarded as Dark Eldorai as something other than enemies. One of them educated her about the beliefs of the heretic Arryn, whose views on Ashira she adopted as her own. Deciding that even though she was no longer a soldier of the Crown, she could still serve her people, she built her own Eldorai paramilitary force. They accepted contracts from various powers, but also sought to rescue enslaved Eldorai and protect exiles. Their methods against slavers were quite brutal, for they showed them no mercy.

Meanwhile, great changes occured on Kaeshana. The archconservative Queen Tirathana VI died and, after a brief civil war, was succeeded by her pleasure-obsessed, but more open-minded daughter Silaqui. The new monarch had the support of the Omega Protectorate - and especially of the notorious Colonel Siobhan Kerrigan. Later, she was murdered by religious zealots and her sister Anya succeeded her. Anya had been exiled during her mother's reign, causing her to experience revelations similar to many of the Dashdae. Close to Tegaea Alcori and Siobhan Kerrigan, she sought to drag the Eldorai kicking and screaming into the future, desiring to rule as a benevolent despot. Many stomach-churning punishments were abolished and heretics were no longer burnt on the stake. Eldorai were encouraged to educate themselves about the larger Galaxy. Firemane Industries helped the Eldorai develop robust planetary defences to deter attackers.

A general amnesty was declared for repentant Dashdae. They were allowed to return to Kaeshana, provided they swore an oath of allegiance to the Crown and refrained from violence. A good number of the exiles took this opportunity, but Naesala was not among them. Events had embittered her against the monarchy. Moreover, she was sceptical that the nobility and church would allow real change to take place, even if the Queen might desire it. So she refused to bend the knee - but also to return to Kaeshana and foment insurrection.

The great cataclysm changed all this. The Great Exodus and Kaeshana's destruction by a huge asteroid was - and still is - a highly traumatic event for the Eldorai. About three billion Eldorai were evacuated prior to the collision, but many had to be left behind. The survivors eked out a primitive existence, struggling to survive in the desolate wasteland. Unsurprisingly, they resented the Exodites. Some believed that the policy to prioritise the best and brightest was unfair - and that it benefited the rich and privileged. Naesala was one of them. So she returned to a Kaeshana that had been thrown into turmoil by the news of the coming doom.

Much to her frustration, the rebels were divided. Some saw it as their mission to help the downtrodden escape the cataclysm, such as by stealing or otherwise acquiring ships, or to build shelters that could survive the calamity. The Ashiran fanatics believed that the Goddess would stop the asteroid if they regained her favour by purging all nonbelievers. And some hardline Dashdae Eldorai cared less about helping their people and more about getting revenge on government lap dogs and giving the régime a bloody nose.

What was needed was leadership and focus. Naesala was deeply embittered against the Monarchy and felt intense antipathy for it, but above all needed to think of the survival of those who were being forsaken. It was in this hour that the Shadow Knights were born out of a coalition of rebels, deserters soldiers and even some desillusioned clerics. Their stated mission was to ensure the survival of the Eldorai race, outside of the confines of the Matriarchy.

This included trying to help Eldorai escape outside of the official channels. This included raids to acquire ships from the Exodus fleet. But also trying to set up bunkers and such that would allow those doomed to stay behind to escape. It was not an easy alliance, for many of the Knights bore a grudge against the government and some considered it more important to fight it, pursuing their vendettas and throwing bombs even as Nemesis came. They ended up being purged.

Becoming one of the Knights' leaders, Naesala threw herself into the task. Harsh, ruthless choices had to be made. Resources were scarce and could often only be acquired via raids, as Kaeshana descended into chaos, with violence breaking out in the streets of Santaissa. They also tried to acquire and hoard tech that would be of use for the Forsaken and Exiles. With the asteroid drawing closer, the last government troops evacuated from Santaissa. Seeking refuge in one of the deep underground shelters in western Kaeshana, Naesala elected to stay on the homeworld she'd fled from so many years ago.

The asteroid's impact was cataclysmic, though thanks to Firemane's efforts the destruction was mitigated, as they used a powerful warship to severely reduce the enormous rock in size. Many Eldorai still died and the planet was devastated. When Naesala emerged from the bunker with her companions, she beheld a ruined world. Santaissa had been turned into a ghost town. The Eldorai who lived in the west, far away from the impact, had fared better, but the planet was a desolate wasteland. Word of the disaster soon spread, and predators took advantage of the survivors' weakness. Corsairs, slavers and the Archangel machine cult also saw easy prey and pounced.

Divided, the surviving Eldorai split into small groups run by warlords, which warred over the scarce resources. For the remaining Eldorai, it was a daily struggle for survival. Many starved to death, perished in conflicts over resources between different warlord factions or ended up being abducted by slavers or the nefarious machine cult Archangel.

As one of the leading Shadow Knights, Naesala decided to wrest some order from the chaos. The Knights worked with the surviving communities, offering protection. At the same time, they dedicated themselves to recovering lost technology. A cynic would say that they were just another warlord faction - but certainly a better organised one. Indeed, their regime was an elective dictatorship. Hoarders and looters were punished, those able to work were conscripted into labour battalions. Slavers - and those who collaborated with them - were publicly executed.

Less a military commander and more a politician, she showed diplomatic talent when it came to getting people to band together and work towards a common goal, showing a pragmatic appreciation of reality. Though criticised by the hardliners, she took the step of reaching out to the surviving Kar'zun, who dwelt in Kaeshana's mountainous regions, and coming to an arrangement with some of their clans. Ironically, some of the rock people had once been the rebels she'd fought against during her time as one of the Crown's soldiers. Once when she was ambushed by a rival warlord who'd received the backing from pirates, a Kar'zun clan came to her aid, enabling her to fight her way out.

She showed bravery when Archangel forces descended upon the settlement of a rival warlord, coming to the aid of beleaguered Eldorai despite the rivalry. Eventually, she was elected Archon by the Shadow Knights' conclave, after her predecessor died. But in spite of these successes, Kaeshana was still a hellhole. The Dashdae Eldorai were divided, attempts to barter with smugglers were complicated by the fact that the Forsaken had little to offer them. Food, medical supplies and other essentials were scarce. Strife, raids, malnutrition and disease thinned the numbers of the Forsaken. Deep down, Naesala knew that they would need external aid, but she continued to soldier on because duty compelled her to.

Then one day, the Forsaken's estranged brethren, who'd built themselves a new home on Tygara, returned to Kaeshana. In cooperation with Firemane and the Galactic Alliance, the Tygaran Eldorai launched a humanitarian mission. There was a great deal of suspicion and bitterness. Reluctantly, many of the Forsaken, as the Kaeshana-based Eldorai had come to call themselves, agreed to accept their aid...though not submission to the Throne. Naesala was among them, though she demanded that the Star Queen's ambassador meet her in person. However, the First Order had also taken an interest in Kaeshana, seeking to annex it. The result was war.

Taking up arms alongside her estranged brethren, Naesala rallied the Knights. At the defunct Citadel of Dusk, which had been turned into a safe zone for countless refugees, she negotiated with Countess Selene Tarai, the Star Queen's emissary. An agreement was reached, granting the Forsaken Home Rule once the First Order had been repelled. However, the Battle for Kaeshana ended in defeat for the Alliance. Naesala was among the Forsaken who managed to escape from Kaeshana. With the fall of Kaeshana, she was at a crossroads. In her own estimation, she'd failed to protect her people. Attrition had thinned the ranks of the Knights. Some criticised her leadership, but she survived a heated debate in the Council when some demanded she resign. Facing her detractors with a fiery speech, she was able to weather the crisis of confidence. In this dark hour, she counted it as a success that they'd managed to avoid bloodshed between themselves.

There would be no submission to the Crown. But those who had been left on Kaeshana would not be forgotten. For now exiles would build their own future, with the Knights operating from a mobile base as they dedicated themselves to protecting the Eldorai who were not under the dominion of the Crown or the First Order. Some of the Tygaran Eldorai, attracted by more or less covertly operating recruiters, joined the cause. Some were motivated by guilt, others simply wanted to build a new life outside of the tripartite order of crown-temple-nobility. To give themselves a mobile base of operations, the Shadow Knights hijacked an Ashira Class Fast Cruiser that belonged to House Cadalthor.

The Cadalthors were in disarray after their head, Duchess Tarissa, had tried to launch a coup to make herself Queen and purge all unbelievers and foreigners - and been executed by Siobhan Kerrigan. Weakened by harsh reparations imposed by Firemane and busy grumbling about Vaena Askari, a bastard, being forced on them as Duchess, their attention was elsewhere. So the Knights hijacked the SQS Tarissa's Legacy, En Caerith Wain (Eldarai for The Shadowed Way). It has been put to good use helping protect Eldorai colony ships and neutral settlements. She also took the step of agreeing to let Kar'zun join the covenant. This resulted in some purists leaving the group, but she stood by her decision due to how the Kar'zun had helped her after the cataclysm.

Naesala and Kaida became acquainted with each other some time after the FO-GA War ended with a treaty. Kaida had fought at Skor and Bespin, and regarded armistice as a betrayal. She cut her ties with the Eldorai Matriarchy following the Serenade Incident on Arkas, having grown disillusioned with the ancien régime. With her, she brought decades of experience as a soldier and officer, plus a bunch of renegade Angelii and Tygaran natives. Naesala accepted the former Angelii into the ranks of the Shadow Knights. The working relationship between both women is professional, but they are not close personally. Today, Naesala still leads the Knights, aspiring to build an Eldorai society free from the mistakes of the old order. Whether she will succeed in this aspiration remains to be seen, though her commitment to her goal is total.

Think this is done. XD

Maybe add a random item under possessions. For some reason, I feel like model ships, like Shepard can get in ME.

Or an urn filled with Kaeshana soil. Maybe both. lol

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To flesh out the ranks of the Shadow Knights.
  • Image Credit: Here. Original artist unknown. Best I could find via reverse image search was a link to shinyflowersmodel.com, which shows the image under the category 'Elven Knights of Flowers'.
  • Role: Terrorist leader, irregular warfare expert, 'acquisitions specialist'. She's a Host Leader in the Caerith Tyari, which makes her the equivalent of a Lieutenant. The Caerith Tyari are the Shadow Knights' cadre of Force-using warriors.
  • Links: Kaeshana, Shadow Knights. Naesala Faethyra. Angelii, Naamah Aesham.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: 61
  • Force Sensitivity: Knight
  • Species: Eldorai

Appearance: A deep scar runs across her right cheek and neither repeated medical treatment nor the Force have erased it. It was inflicted by an Eldorai interrogator during her time in prison. One of her pointed ears was cut off, which is seen as a mark of shame amongst her people. Medical technology has evolved far enough for her ear to be restored, but it still appears slightly different. Her eyes are piercing, alert and more than a little judgemental. She is a tall woman with pale skin and short raven hair.

She lost her right hand as punishment for stabbing an Ashiran Priestess during confession at the Angelii's prison. It was later replaced by a mechanical prothesis. While this comes with some benefits, it makes her vulnerable to ion/EMP attacks and alienates her further from the mainstream of her people, since many Eldorai see cybernetics as unnatural.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Tarith Vintoli. Nicknamed Morwen, which is Eldarai for Maiden. The name is a bit ironic, but has stuck.
  • Loyalties: Naesala Faethyra, Shadow Knights.
  • Wealth: Low. Morwen is not wealthy at all.
Notable Possessions:
  • She's authored 'The Illyrian Manual' for young radical Eldorai. Essentially it's an elf version of the Anarchist's Cookbook. Subtitled 'Bring them to the judgement of Illyria...in 350 exciting ways'.
  • Sarzmigar

Skills:
  • Pyromancy
  • Telekinesis
  • Force Speed
  • Force Barrier
  • Force Sense
  • Explosives
  • Knife fighting
  • Lockpicking
  • Slicing/electronics
  • Fishing

Personality: Driven, aggressive, zealous. Morwen is a child of her times and though she has left Kaeshana, it has left its mark upon her. It is evident that she has some deep-seated anger issues and a lot of rage inside her. She became alienated from the Angelii and the Eldorai Matriarchy at a young age, rebelling against the stultifying culture of Kaeshana and becoming associated with radical reformist groups before she went on to become a terrorist.

She lost faith in the Great Goddess Ashira at an early age. Instead she venerates the Eldorai Goddess of Death who was cast into the Underworld after rebelling against Ashira. Morwen espouses radical republican views, seeing monarchies as inherently corrupt and only beneficial to the upper class. In some ways, she's more radical than the Shadow Knight mainstream.

Hardened by years underground, she she has become cynical, even cruel. She has a rather black, even malicious sense of humour. The defining moment in her life was the Exodus, when she was among the Forsaken, the Eldorai left behind on the desolate planet. To her, it was a betrayal, for many of those left behind were commoners deemed 'non-essential'. What followed was a struggle for survival as Kaeshana was assailed by natural disasters, internecine strife between the natives and attacks from slavers and Archangel, until the surviving population had thinned considerably. She was among those trying to wrest some order from the chaos. It was during this period that she joined the Shadow Knights.

Morwen follows Naesala since the Archon has proven her capabilities as a leader, though she is not an uncritical acolyte. Her relationship with Kaida Taldir is very poor. Morwen used to serve under Kaida as an Angelii. But while Morwen deserted them and joined the rebels, Kaida continued serving the Crown until recently. Thus Morwen distrusts and dislikes her strongly, viewing her as an insincere opportunist. It does not help that both women are very stubborn and utterly convinced they're in the right. Or that they might have shot at each other during battles between Angelii and Dashdae Eldorai. For her part, Kaida regards Morwen as an undisciplined anarchist...which isn't far from the truth!

COMBAT INFORMATION

Weapon of Choice: Mk1 bolter with all types of ammunition. Favours shatterpistols, stealth carbine and vibroknives for silent takedowns. Carries a concealed vibroknife hidden inside a wrist sheath. Also proficient with blasters and explosives. Capable pyromancer. She favours a Sarzmigar polearm over a sword in melee combat.

Combat Function: Morwen is a powerful pyromancer, skilled with firearms, explosives and has a thing for knives. Her primary combat Sciiac (Force) skills are centred on pyromancer. She is skilled at summoning flames to roast her enemies, or heating metal to boil them. It also allows her to cook without an oven. She is very dexterous and has an impressive hand-eye coordination. Talented in standard infantry operations, infiltration, and leading small teams in tactical situations.

Howeover, she has the traditional Eldorai racial weaknesses: Physically weaker compared to a human, lower pain threshold, and a rapid metabolism. Her skills as a duellist with a sword are only average. Her right hand is a well-crafted cybernetic. While durable and hardened against ionic attacks, it is still susceptible to the traditional weaknesses of a mechanical limb. Morwen is not a strategic leader, stubborn and sometimes hard to get along with.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Eldorai are a proud people. A resilient people. What they are not is a tolerant people. Or a forgiving one. From the point of view of Morwen, they have been leashed by self-aggrandising tyrants for centuries. Now they are divided. Kaeshana is under the control of the First Order, while the old Eldorai Matriarchy rules from Tygara. Other Eldorai have taken to the stars, seeking a new life on colony ships or on other worlds.

Morwen grew up in a remote province of Kaeshana, far away from the metropolis of Santaissa. Her family were simple farmers and while her Sciia manifested early, she kept my abilities secret, not wanting to leave her home.

However, an accident brought them to the attention of the authorities and she was conscripted by the Angelii when she was an adult. As a result, she was rather resentful and angry about being separated from her family. From her perspective, her trainers tried to indoctrinate her into thinking that the Angelii were the righteous defenders of the Star Queen, and that she was Ashira's divinely appointed viceroy. To be fair, many of the enemies they fought were wicked, such as slavers, terrorists and pirates who preyed on the Eldorai. At the same time, all too often they fought each other, becoming tools in the nobles' game of thrones.

Kaeshana was opened up to the rest of the Galaxy when it joined the Omega Protectorate. Later, Firemane set up its HQ on the planet and forged a close relationship with Queen Tirathana VII, who sought to modernise the realm and usher in an age of liberal despotism. From the perspective of Morwen, little changed. Initially she'd hoped that the foreigners would encourage reform, but this hopeful attitude soon turned to resentment. In her opinion, all they cared about was lining their own pockets.

While she showed courage in the field, her disciplinary problems kept her from rising in the ranks. Morwen served under the dour Kaida Taldir, but the two women did not get along. She fought alongside Firemane troops on hellish Gehenna and later on volcanic Sullust during the Netherworld Event, when the Eldorai suffered high casualties while saving the Omega Protectorate Exarch Coryth Elaris from the malevolent Klaxxi. Desillusioned with the system, Morwen rebelled, joining the ranks of the so-called Dashdae - or Dark - Eldorai.

To the authorities, she became a terrorist. When it came to her methods, this was definitely true. As far as she was concerned, the system was beyond reform and needed to be torn down. The only option was violence, for power could only come out of the barrel of a gun. Her actions included abductions or assassinations of Eldorai and Firemane officials, bombings, raids and so on. Aside from that, she found the time to write an Eldorai version of the anarchist's cookbook. She lost her right hand in the Angelii's ghost prison.

When Nemesis came to Kaeshana, she was understandably among those who would not be evacuated. Unsurprisingly, she joined the rebels who rose up against the system, fighting Firemane and Angelii troops commanded by Tempest and Kaida. From her perspective, the upper class was abandoning the common people.

She survived the cataclysm when a huge asteroid impacted upon Kaeshana. As one of the surviving Dashdae Eldorai, she was left to pick up the pieces. She joined the Shadow Knights, a group that sought to wrest some order from the chaos and provide security to the remaining Eldorai communities. It was a harsh life full of tribulations.

The survivors fought amongst themselves, slavers and genocidal Archangel HRDs descended upon the desolate wasteland like vultures. Still she fought on, perhaps becoming the wrathful protector she always wanted to be. Her bravery and tactical command skills earned her a position in the Shadow Knights' equivalent of the Angelii, the Caerith Tyari or Shadow Warriors.

She made the acquaintance of an enigmatic shapeshifter called Naamah Aesham during the fight to defend an Eldorai settlement from Archangel's droids. The Clawdite earned her respect when she risked her life to protect the elves and sent a distress signal, which was unexpectedly answered by [member="Darth Skygge"] and her apprentice. After Naamah was wounded during the fighting, Morwen protected her and helped her the Sith Lord's ship. Skygge's intervention left Morwen more than a little confused, but with the stranger's aid, they were able to save some of the Eldorai. For a while, Morwen left Kaeshana and teamed up with Naamah.

Partly to get revenge on Archangel for abducting so many of her people and turning them into mechanical abominations, partly to rally support for Kaeshana from among the Eldorai Exiles who hadn't thrown in their lot with the Tygaran-based Matriarchy. Moreover, her people needed supplies and had little to trade, so they had to acquire the resources they needed through other means. The two formed an efficient team, carrying out a few raids. However, once they learned of the Kaeshana Rebellion, both returned to the Eldorai homeworld, rejoining the Shadow Knights.

Morwen had no love for the Galactic Alliance and despised both Firemane and the Matriarchy. But to her, the First Order was a foreign, imperialist oppressor. So reluctantly she made common cause with her estranged brethren. However, the Galactic Alliance was defeated. She viewed it as a betrayal when her people's former rulers left Kaeshana once more. She was among those Eldorai who escaped before the First Order assumed control over the planet. She vowed to return one day, free her people and get revenge.

The Shadow Knights' decision to focus on building a new home for the Eldorai was met with consternation her part. For a while, she rejoined Naamah, supporting her in her crusade against Archangel. Harsh justice against slavers ensued along the way, leading to the liberation of many Eldorai who'd been captured and held in bondage.

Along the way, she encountered the eccentric Amara Zarides, one of Archangel's escaped clones. The three of them struck a blow against Archangel by hijacking their Maladi-class frigate, which ironically Archangel had stolen earlier during the Rogue Sith attack on Kuat. Disagreements with Naamah, and a desire to aid her people again, caused Morwen to rejoin the Shadow Knights, bringing booty with her.

Morwen was on the tropical planet of Arkas during the Serenade Incident. Serenade was one of the world's many islands, and the location of a mixed race settlement inhabited by humans, aliens and Eldorai exiles. Officially she was there as a trainer for the militia, unofficially she also acted as a recruiter for the Shadow Knights. Alas, she ended up being caught in a zombie outbreak. A zombie pathogen spread out, quickly infecting most of the inhabitants. Forced to fight for her life, Morwen teamed up with a small group of beleaguered survivors. As Arkas was under Firemane protection, the corporation dispatched soldiers to investigate after the settlement went dark.

They were accompanied by a small unit of Angelii, headed by Morwen's former superior Kaida Taldir. However, the outnumbered soldiers were soon being swarmed by zombies as well, for the undead creatures were intelligent and guided by a hive mind, utilising the settlement's own defence guns. Ultimately, the troopers retreated after knocking out Serenade's AA guns, enabling bombers to contain the outbreak by levelling the town. Morwen managed to escape with a small group of locals, just before the bombs fell. Suffering burns, she ran into Firemane troops securing the island in the aftermath of the bombardment. The encounter went rather poorly, though she was allowed to leave. Later, she ran into Kaida once more, when the former High Captain deserted the Angelii and joined the rebels, much to Morwen's irritation. Morwen continues to be a member of the Shadow Knights, serving as a one of the Caerith Tyari. It remains to be seen whether she will find her place, or if her zeal will consume her.

Had the idea that she could have been in Serenade during the Outbreak.

Maybe as a recruiter/trainer. Then the zombies came. Perhaps she and some others managed to fight their way out and survive the bombardment.

This refers to Morwen above, not Naesala.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"]

That could work, too. Then she'd feel very guilty.

I favour her being in it. Makes her a bit more heroic, if she tried to protect the survivors.

And intensifies her resentment. This refers to Morwen above, not Naesala.

Morwen is identical to the Eldorai who tagged along with Naamy.

1. Works. Aristocratic board member from Naboo. Fawns on Sio a lot. Is definitely sleeping with her and probably helps her find new harem girls/boys.

Just need to decide how she ended up with Firemane.

2. How do you see the Shadow Knights' Angelii differing from the Matriarchy's ones? Aside from not yammering about the Goddess Ashira and being fewer in number.

3. Do you think Codex would be cool with a unique unit of Force-Sensitive Shards in HRD bodies ( say 3 - 4). Preferrably Knight level. For Enyo's posse.

[member="Siobhan Kerrigan"]
  1. Probably during the OP days she could have switched over to them.
  2. They may have discarded sarixi for lightsabres perhaps? Or at least for the officers. Probably don't use the shield or heavy armour, fight more irregular style.
  3. Hmm...probably not. You might have an NPC Crew sub instead. Garnet can be the leader, the others can be apprentices. That'd get through.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"]

1. That works.

2. Sabres are worth considering (officers only). However, I strongly disagree re shields. I'll keep them because they're very useful even if you're not fighting as a rigid formation. Doesn't mean everyone will carry one, but abandoning them wholesale seems like a bad idea to me.

Kaida uses one in PvP all the time. It gave her the edge in two duels. One in enclosed quarters, the other in an open street. It's very difficult to successfully use a sword against someone with a shield, unless you can outmanoeuvre them. That's why maces, hammers and other anti-armour weapons were introduced in medieval times. Besides, they're kinda iconic to the Eldorai since barely anyone else uses shields.

As for not wearing heavy armour, that's no change since the Angelii never wore it. They had light or medium armour, and discarding that would likewise be ill-advised since they're not an irregular militia or Jedi. Especially with Kaida in command, and a career soldier as Archon. Shadow Knights sub the group is very big on discipline.

I can see tactics adjusting and being less rigid, especially since they have less people than the Crown's Angelii, and it's a mix of ex-Angelii, former insurgents and new blood. Angelii battle tactics aren't even that rigid, since once they've charged as a phalanx, they break up into small teams, which are generally based on a buddy system of one melee combatant being paired with a shooter.

The question is...do I sub them as one whole unit? Or just do individual units. For instance, one unit sub for Morwen's unit (quite small, less disciplined and with an Illyrian influence), one for the unit Kaida commands (more professional, very harsh discipline).

As I understand it, Codex unit subs are supposed to be small for the sake of balance and so on, especially when it comes to Forcers. So perhaps a few individual unit subs on an as-needed basis is better. Or how many Caerith Tyari (Shadow Warriors, as the rogue Angelii call themselves) do you see existing all in all?

3. * nod * Thought so. Theoretically I could just do 4 individual Knight level subs...

Though that would require more effort on my part.

Since Garnet is your character, It's best if you sub her.

[member="Siobhan Kerrigan"]
There's probably 100 Shadow Warriors...max? I can't imagine they have access to that many more.

You could do two small subs because you wouldn't be using more than that at once anyway.

I see your points on equipment, makes sense.

'kay. Had the thought of doing a regular Shadow Warrior sub for the shock troops.

And comparatively small one for commandos types. Who sacrifice firepower and durability for some stealthy stuff.

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To flesh out Siobhan's retinue and the Granite Guard, an NPC unit I subbed a while ago.
  • Image Credit: Here. Concept from Thor. Found on comicbook.com.
  • Role: Personal bodyguard for Siobhan Kerrigan and the Kerrigan-Alcori clan, Colour Sergeant in the Granite Guard.
  • Links: Firemane Industries, Kaeshana.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: 702
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Force-User
  • Species: Kar'zun
  • Appearance: Tall and craggy, a dark shade of grey. Her people can bear the weight of armour for a long time so she inevitably wears it at almost all times. Outside of armour she tends to wear a kilt like thing for modesty sake but not bother anything else. Kar'zun do not have mammary glands after all! She's cultivated a growth of lichen on her head which is the closest they get to hair.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
Notable Possessions:
  • Lionheart Power Armour
  • Ancient talisman of her ancestors
  • Pendant with a picture of her son engraved on it
  • A battered, no longer functional plasma cannon called Vera. Kar'zakush is rather fond of the 'old girl' and calls Vera her lucky charm.
  • Various mementos from planets she's visited or battlefields she's fought on.

Skills:
  • Skilled artisan working with stone and metal
  • Forging
  • First aid
  • Mechanic
  • Heavy Weapons

Personality: Like many old veterans - or old people in general - Kar'zakush has the mentality of someone who's seen it all. Or at least does a good job of projecting such an attitude. She is old, almost ancient. She's seen countless empires rise and fall into the dust bin of history, has experienced triumphs, defeats and heartbreaks many times over. She's seen great conquerors and so-called deities humbled and freedom fighters turn into tyrants many times over.

This long life gives her a dispassionate, almost philosophical outlook, as she is a bit removed from the daily hurly-burly. She still retains the characteristic dislike that many of her people feel towards the Eldorai for the suffering they inflicted upon the Kar'zun. While she used too despise them, now she is too old for grudges. It won't stop her from throwing shade at them though, when there's an opportunity to do such.

Kar'zakush is not the type to act rashly or given to flights of fancy, especially in a fight. On the battlefield, she is logical, calculating and disciplined. This is not to say that she is an emotionless automaton, far from it. She has a dry, sarcastic wit, though it is sometimes difficult to get her somewhat obscure references or tell whether she is joking or not as Kar'zun expressions are very difficult to read. Being made of stone, they tend to look impassive. Outside of her work, she can be a surprisingly gentle giant and is particularly friendly to children. Like a good grandmother, she's also quick to offer advice and words of wisdom to the young ones, though they do not always heed her counsel!

Presently, Kar'zakush is in the services of Lady Siobhan Kerrigan. The Karishzar is just the latest in a long chain of employers and commanders. The stone woman may end up outliving Siobhan, unless she gives her life on the battlefield. Or the human uses esoteric techniques to prolong her life span while her guardian succumbs to the curse of stone. The relationship between the two differs in a number of ways from the typical interactions between Siobhan and many of the members of her retinue.

There are obviously no fade to black scenes due to incompatible tastes. All things considered, Kar'zakush cannot understand why humans in general and her present liege in particular make such a fuss about coitus, as her people derive no particular enjoyment nor passion from such acts. That aside, the stone woman has served many masters during the course of her long life, and this gives her a high degree of independence. In her dealings with Siobhan, she is honest and forthright, even on occasions when the Lady is in a mood. Kar'zakush is the kind of grizzled, at times cranky NCO who can't be bothered to fawn over a superior...especially one who's not even a fraction of her age.

She has repeatedly turned down offers to promote her, saying that she can't be bothered with fancy titles. On an idiosyncratic note, Kara'kush is not keen on birds. Damnable feathered creatures. Or being referred to as a golem. Both tend to make her cranky.

COMBAT INFORMATION
Combat Function:
  • Kar'zakush is literally a walking rock, possessing the strength of stone. Thus she is incredibly strong, tough and resilient. Kar'zun grow stronger as they age, making her particularly tough.
  • Being made of the toughness of stone, she is extremely resistant to cold and heat. While intense amounts of both can still hurt her, it would require sustained exposure.
  • Being an unusual type of creature, her people are almost impossible to mentally dominate. Couple this with her long experience, and she resists mental attacks easily.
  • Kar'zakush is extremely proficient in the use of heavy weapons. She can easily use the heaviest weapons Firemane can equip her with. Favouring overwhelming weaponry, she can deliver a fearsome punch both at range and in melee.
  • Unfortunately, being a walking rock, she is also quite slow and ponderous. This is something a more agile opponent could exploit in combat.
  • Her size can make her difficult to transport, she cannot swim and would sink in a swamp. Muddy terrain is rather difficult to traverse. It also makes her terrible at stealth. Bottom line, an opponent will hear and see her coming, and depending on the terrain, her size can become a disadvantange. She is a tank, plain and simple.
  • While tough, she is vulnerable to sonic and pulse weapons. Being a rock creature, terramancy is also a vulnerability for her. Her hide provides protection against glancing blows from a lightsabre, but cannot tank full-on contact.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Kar'zakush was born on Kaeshana, centuries before the outbreak of the Gulag Virus brought galactic civilisation to its knees. It had been a century since the legions of the Eldorai Star Queen Ariane I sacked Vak'zahr, capital of the Kar'zun, eradicating any of the stone people they found. On that day, the fate of Kaeshana had been decided for good. The surviving Kar'zun were broken into small groups, moved into reservations and persecuted. So many had died in the great war, and so few children were born, that their race was driven to the brink of extinction.

To the Kar'zun, it was a shocking near-genocide, and Ariane was a war criminal and savage oppressor, whom they called Az'varik, or deadly flame. To the Eldorai meanwhile she was a hero, a woman who brought a terrible war to a close, turning the tide when it seemed like the Eldorai would face enslavement at the hands of the Kar'zun. Which viewpoint is true?

Regardless of the answer, Kar'zakush first breathed air far away from the ruins of her people's capital, for she came into being in a remote 'reservation'. She grew up in a clan that had suffered greatly during the war and the aftermath. In their ballads, they sung about their past glory, honoured their ancestors and lamented their tribulations and lost kin.

Like all Kar'zun habitats, the reservation was under the yoke of the Eldorai. House Cadalthor, a staunch supporter of Ariane's Crusade, held sway over the land, and launched harsh crackdowns on any sign of opposition. A council of Kar'zun clan elders was caught in the middle, being forced to appease both the victorious conquerors and their resentful constituents, who viewed the 'collaborators' as sellouts.

One year, controls might be relaxed, the next tightened, the reservation would be altered and redrawn. As a young child, Karza'kush had to leave the reservation with her family, for after unrest had broken out, the Eldorai decided to tighten the noose, moving the clan away from their ancestral mountainous habitat in order to make them more dependent on their mistresses. Resistance to the deportation order was treated harshly.

As a young one, she lashed out violently against the occupiers, and paid the price as she learned the consequences of defiance. Some of the elders of the clan suffered the curse of stone on the way. One of her uncles joined a group of insurgents, but was eventually killed by the Angelii. Her resentment towards the Eldorai grew. When she was older, she was conscripted to work as an indentured labourer in a distant mine. Being physically strong and extremely durable, the Kar'zun were suited for this, which is why the weaker, more nimble Eldorai utilised them for labour that normal organic beings would consider backbreaking.

Ironically, it was outsiders who gave Kar'zakush an opportunity to leave Kaeshana. To be precise, it was slavers. The generally physically appealing appearance of the Eldorai, combined with their low pain threshold, made them attractive targets for traffickers in sentient flesh. Moreover, the Eldorai's isolation ensured that they were technologically behind the galactic standard. In this particular case, it was a gang called the Iron Buccaneers. For a while, they'd had a deal with the local Eldorai prefect, exchanging tech for gold. However, then they decided to loot and pillage instead. Supposedly after being cheated.

Seeking riches and easy prey, the slavers struck the gold mine she laboured in, along with the nearby Eldorai settlement. Using the heavy guns of their ships, blasters and vibroblades, the pirates attacked ferociously, slaughering those Eldorai who resisted and claiming the rest as slaves. For Kar'zakush, it was a chance to rise up and rebel against her hated overmistresses, utilising mining tools as improvised weapons along with her natural strength. Indeed, she ended up saving the life of one of the corsairs' leaders. In the future, she would have cause to regret aligning herself with the raiders...but at the same time it was her ticket to freedom.

Eldorai troops attacked in full force, compelling the raiders to flee with their booty. The spaceships took to the sky, blasting away with their cannons while using their speed to evade the forces the space elves had amassed. Kar'zakush went with them, having earned some favour with them due to her strength. Undoubtedly seeing space for the first time was an unsettling experience for the young Kar'zun. She'd also never met aliens before, and was wholly unfamiliar with their language. Her stony fists were good at shutting down racist comments about her being a golem though. Presented to the Buccaneers' leader, she became a member of the gang. Subsequently, she participated in a number of raids on Kaeshana and neighbouring worlds. In each, she proved her strength and got the chance to exact vengeance on her tormentors.

However, her hatred for the Eldorai did not extend to other races, and over time further got watered down when she saw that all of them were Cadalthor stooges, but innocent civilians. Exposed to the cruel way the captives were being treated, she gained some sympathy for them, especially after she saw one of the slave markets they were being sold on life stock. It did not help that many of the pirates continued to treat her with contempt. After seeing a young slave being savagely beaten and crying out for help, she decided to take action. One night, when the corsairs were celebrating after a successful raid, she struck. Pirates put up a fight, pirates died.

Freeing the slaves, she left them with tools and supplies, then left. Free but unable to return to Kaeshana after all she'd done, she became a wanderer. An entire Galaxy full of possibilities, both fascinating and scary, was open to her. One of the freed slaves, to whom she'd shown kindness, became her pilot. Over the decades, Kar'zakush became a smuggler, mercenary and bounty-hunter.

Though the Second Imperial Civil War had ended with a combined Alliance-Empire-in-exile victory and the dissolution of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire, there was no shortage of low-intensity conflicts in the Galaxy. So she became a sellsword, lending her blade to various factions that in this or that way sought to impose their vision on the stars. Or just make a profit. She tended to outlive her employers, as they either died peacefully died in bed or were killed by their rivals. Or sometimes turned on her, in which case she killed them, though she stuck to a code of always honouring a contract unless she was given good cause to do otherwise.

For a while, she ran a syndicate of bounty-hunters operating out of Corellia, accepting contracts from crime lords, politicians, police agencies and corporations. Later, she served as the bodyguard of an ambitious Galactic Alliance Senator after she caught his attention by tracking down a murderous rogue Jedi who'd gone on a killing spree...because the Dark Side told her. Or something of that nature. Baffled and disgusted by such excuses, the Kar'zun brought her to justice, dismissing claims about redemtpion.

Regardless, the bodyguard job paid well, and there was no shortage of people who wanted to assassinate the ambitious politician or kidnap family members. Or who needed a beating because they were in his way since her employer had no qualms about doing shady things if it helped him advance his career. The Senator later fell from grace after he got embroiled in a corruption scandal that ended up being leaked to the press. Kar'zakush walked away and soon found new employers.

At some point, she made the acquaintance of the enigmatic Tamara Peregrinus, who may or may not have been a time traveller. Or an immortal. She certainly did not age. Anyhow, the two ended up becoming buddies and had several adventures together, despite being rather different in temperament and methods. Unsurprisingly, said adventures were filled with meta references and 4th wall breaks. Among other things, they visited the Rishi Maze, Korriban and Csilla. Another journey took them to Tatooine, where Kar'zakush complained about the sand because it was coarse and irritating, and fought a Krayt Dragon.

Eventually, they drifted apart and Kar'zakush continued her travels independently. She found employment in a series of conflicts between the Galactic Alliance and the resurgent Empire, working for whichever side was offering. Working alongside Imperial marines, she once boarded and successfully sabotaged a prototype Alliance warship. Then the Gulag Virus broke out and everything went to hell in a hand basket. It started on Csilla, but soon spread across the Galaxy, bringing galactic civilisation to its knees. Entire star systems were cut off, trillions perished, empires collapsed and chaos reigned. Karza'kush happened to be on Coruscant when all hell broke loose, having returned there completing a job.

Alas, her employer of the week was in no position to compensate here due to being infected. She tussled with an apocalyptic doomsday cult of human supremacists that believed that virus was the doing of alien conspirators who wanted to exterminate humaninity for...some reason. Amidst all the looting and general panic, the stone woman got caught up in the turmoil and teamed up with some soldiers and low-class refugees to escape. Her assault cannon proved its utility when it came to securing appropriate transport. When it turned out that a member of the rag-tag band of misfits had been infected by the virus, Kar'zakush reluctantly mercy-killed the poor unfortunate soul. For a while, she made a living as part of a smuggling gang that ferried supplies to worlds that had been cut off. But even this became hazardous.

After her ship was damaged in a skirmish with pirates, she was stranded on a remote, primitive planet called Raevana. Seemingly on her own, she was forced to subsist by herself for a long time. Luckily, Kar'zun eat stones and ore. Eventually she was able to secure passage offworld when a group of explorers stumbled on the planet, after she saved them from savage lizardmen.

By then several decades had passed, but something truly unexpected happened when she encountered an independent Kar'zun clan. She ran into fellow Kar'zun warriors doing a job where it turned out they'd been hired by different sides. After spending some time shooting at each other, the stone warriors realised they were of the same race and decided to band together. Kar'zakush continues to insist she would have won. The Kar'zun she ended up marrying politely agrees to disagree. Understandably, their employers did not like the sudden switch. After fighting their way out, she was brought to the clan, which was centred on a few spaceships. The clan had turned its back on Kaeshana and lived a nomadic life, never staying at one place for long. Here, the restless Kar'zakush found some stability, after being accepted into the clan. It pained her stone heart that conditions on Kaeshana were still poor for her people. Eventually, she married one of warriors and had a son.

Time passed, and the Galaxy pulled itself out of the Dark Age. New powers rose and tried to force their vision upon the Galaxy. Now taking a step back from an active role in combat, Kar'zakush nonetheless accompanied younger Kar'zun warriors into battle to mentor and supervise them, as mercenary work was one of the ways for the clan to gain funds and resources. Thus she fought at Denon, when Omega Pyre liberated the planet from zombie hordes.

She received word that conditions were changing on Kaeshana. Queen Tirathana VII, disturbed by the past horrors, lifted the age-old quarantines and allowed the Kar'zun to return to their old habitats. However, Kar'zakush was unwilling to become the subject of an Eldorai Queen, no matter how liberal she appeared to be. A turning point came during the Great Exodus from Kaeshana, when she returned to her doomed homeworld to help her people escape. It was during this time that she came to the attention of Firemane.

Lady Siobhan Kerrigan had lobbied for the Kar'zun to be saved rather than abandoned on the doomed planet. Since she was the one providing the ships for the evacuation fleet, the Eldorai were not really in a position to refuse. After all, even though many of them liked to think they were the overmistresses of the Galaxy...they were just small fish.

In return for Firemane's aid, the Kar'zun clans provided warriors, mechanics and other personnel. One of those who volunteered was Kar'zakush, who served with Firemane ever since, though she regularly sent money and gifts home to her clan. Many Kar'zun left the corporation after their service had come to an end, settling either on Tygara or sticking with one of the independent clans, but she stayed. She fought during the Kaeshana Rebellion, linking up with Kar'zun who'd elected to stay behind.

The aftermath of this battle caused a rift between Firemane and the Eldorai after Tarissa Cadalthor, an Eldorai noblewoman, tried to seize power in a coup, blaming 'human monkeighs' for the defeat. After personally executing Tarissa for treason in front of the Eldorai Council and informing the nobles about the consequences of messing with her, Siobhan decided to found the Granite Guard, a unit composed of Kar'zun warriors. Kar'zakush was one of those who volunteered for it. Increasingly suspicious of those she'd once considered her allies, Siobhan picked the taciturn Kar'zun for her personal squad, which was charged with protecting Firemane's first family. Kar'zakush fought at her liege's side during the Battle of Hoth, participating in the assault on Outpost Veers.
