Intent: To create a heat shielding measure for an upcoming Protectorate ship.
Development Thread: Request made here
Manufacturer: Koensayr Manufacturing
Model: Nirvana Heat Shielding System
Affiliation: Protectorate, Closed Market
Modularity: None
Production: Minor, Special Order
Material: Thermal Gel, Ketrain's Alloy, Heat Shielding
Description: Formally requested to provide a heat shielding system capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 5,504 degrees, the upper layers of a sun, Domino began compiling every bit of tech known for dealing with thermal shielding and resistance. Several days later and an idea combining the systems was put forth. No single thing, or pair of systems would cut it, but each operating in it's own specialized area might do the job. Thermal gel was sandwiched between a double wall of Ketrain's alloy and was backed by a cryogenic cooling system that extended into the gel layer. Both the outer and inner-most surfaces of the plating were coated with an ablative heat shielding to help slow the transfer of heat both into the system and into the crew quarters of the ship, however the surfaces backing to the thermal gel were left un-coated to prevent heat-build up resulting in improper thermal conductivity with the cooled gel that could potentially lead to the plates retaining enough heat to be structurally impacted. Topping off the system is a heavily modified shield system based off of an Arkanian Energy Shield that draws directly from the ship's reactor.

Such an extensive system is not without its costs and drawbacks however. While it is extremely effective at stopping thermal energy, the plating is too ridged to effectively deal with kinetic impacts on a weapons-grade scale and the special energy shield takes power that would normally go to a deflector shield rendering it extra vulnerable. Furthermore the heat-sinks the cryogenic system runs off of can only operate at maximum capacity for an hour before they run the risk of overloading as they can't radiate heat properly next to a sun. Trying to do so would only result on them taking on more thermal energy. One upside is that provided one area isn't immediately overwhelmed, the hull of the ship should be extremely capable of taking thermal based attacks.

[member="Domino"] - I'm biased since the sundiver ship's been my project longer than this one, but in full recognition of that bias, approved pending secondary.
