ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • A Hunter Waiting For Its Prey: Equipped with various advanced stealth systems, the Nightshrike is more than capable of keeping itself hidden from most enemy ships, including other stealth ships, making sure she remains unseens until she's ready to pounce.
  • Eyes Piercing the Shadow: Equipped with the next generation of crystal gravfield trap and carrying tracking torpedoes specially designed to exploit the flaws and weaknesses of most stealth equipment, the Nightshrike is extremely well equipped to do its primary purpose - hunting down and killing other stealth ships.
  • Descending with Claws of Phrik: The offensive armament on the Nightshrike class is extremely high for a ship of its size - combining 8 launch tubes for the ship's signature ACROST Torpedoes, 4 Light Turbolaser turrets, and a heavy ion cannon. If a ship finds itself in the crosshairs of this ship, it indeed is in grave danger.
WEAKNESSES
  • Torpedo in the Water!: While the systems on board the ship are advanced and effectively protect it from detection outside of combat, none of its offensive weapons are designed with stealth in mind, and unless it is constantly changing position and heading, any launch of its torpedoes or engagement with its ion cannon or turbolasers will almost certainly give away the ship's position.
  • Catastrophic Failure: While it has strong defensive systems and provides a very tough hull to crack, if an enemy can penetrate the CGT-01's compartment or the magazine full of ACROST torpedoes, the resulting explosion (either from the dense Nova Crystal grid of the CGT or the Seismic Warheads of the ACROST) will almost certainly cripple or destroy the ship outright
  • Ion Discharge: While its main armament - the Heavy Ion Cannon, is extremely useful in taking out slipper stealth ships - when fired it discharges a large amount of energy - so much so that it requires the use of energy from the shield capacitors to sustain any sort of fire, causing the shields to be brought down for about a minute after two or three shots.
DESCRIPTION

The final culmination of the GADF Project to combat the proliferation of stealth ships throughout the Galaxy, the Nightstrike-class frigate provides the first venture into a new classification of ships dubbed Hunter-Killers. Built from the ground up with single purpose meant - to detect stealth ships through their cloaks and hunt them down and destroy them - these are some of the most advanced ships in the Galactic Alliance fleet and contain a variety of new technologies and weaponry.

The Nightshrike carries a very formidable armament, with its main armament consisting of a prow-mounted heavy ion cannon and the highly-advanced Mk 50 ACROST, a torpedo designed specifically to be able to track down the magnetic signature of enemy stealth ships as well as receive CGT-based targeting data from the firing ship in-flight. This doesn't make her defenseless in a conventional battle, however, carrying four light turbolaser turrets and a decent array of 12 PDLCs to protect against missiles and fighters.

On the defensive side, while she only carries a standard military-grade shield, both the shield and the Nyix-alloy hull provide a fairly decent defense in the commission of a ship-to-ship battle. However, the vast majority of the ship's defenses are geared towards avoiding such a battle. Equipped with both a sensor shroud and a proper cloaking device, as well as a newly designed baffled drive, this ship is well capable of stalking its enemies from the shadows

What makes this ship a true hunter-killer, however, is its next-generation Crystal Gravfield Trap, which uses a grid of supercooled, energized Nova Crystals to detect small gravitic fluctuations from long distances. Seeing through sensor jammers, cloaks, and even sensor-blinding nebulae. This allows the ship to detect and engage its unsuspecting prey.

All-in-All the Nightshrike is a well-built and highly advanced stealth ship that is excellent at the job it's built for, more than capable of carrying out the role of hunting down and destroying stealth ships. Though only 3 were built due to the constraints of budget and time, these ships provide a much-needed capacity for the GADF Navy.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Rendili StarDrive
  • Affiliation: Faction Name
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: DarkSpace-type Baffled Drive
  • Modularity: can be scaled from fighter-size to frigate-sized
  • Production: Semi-Unique
  • Material:
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Specially engineered nacelles to redirect and scatter exhaust gases
  • Carbonite and Cryoban technology used to supercool exhaust gases
STRENGTHS
  • Rig for Silent Running: With the extensive use of cryoban and carbonite cells in the operation of heat-sinks to supercool exhaust gases, and the exploitation of engine baffles to redirect and scatter these supercooled exhaust gases, this drive is capable of pushing a ship through space with the minimal amount of sensor wake, allowing it to maintain stealth or low visibility.
WEAKNESSES
  • We're Cavitating: While it's not necessarily the exact same physical phenomenon that causes so much trouble for terrestrial oceangoing vessels, a similar effect is created whenever these drives are pushed above cruising speed or are used in quick bursts regarding its sensor wake. The sheer volume and energy density of the exhaust at higher speeds will trigger safety systems which will disable the baffles and supercooling, leaving the thrusters tossing an exhaust plume just like any other ship of the line.
DESCRIPTION

One of Rendili StarDrive's greatest (and most infamous) achievements was the creation of the WhisperThrust engines - fighter-to-freighter sized baffled engines designed to keep the sensor wake of their equipped ships from being detected by prying eyes. While this excellent systems has proven useful across the centuries, one of its main drawbacks has always been its inability to be deployed on larger ships such as frigates. What resulted was a complicated and expensive system, that did its particular and narrow job absolutely splendidly.

Running on several of the same principles of the WhisperThrust engines of infamy, The SilentThrust engines used cells of a heavily concentrated Cryoban-Carbonite mixture, combined with a high-efficiency heat exchanger, to supercool the gases below even the melting point of many exhaust components, which is necessary given the size of ships this system was initially designed for. Combined with a fully optimized system for quickly scattering these supercooled gases once they are ejected from the engine, this provides the SilentThrust engine with a nearly invisible sensor wake, detected only by the most sensitive of sensor suites.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Rendili StarDrive
  • Affiliation: Galactic Alliance
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: Mk 50 Advance Capability Remote-Operable Search Torpedo (ACROST)
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Semi-Unique
  • Material:
    • Torpedo Components
    • Durasteel
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Tracking Torpedo
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Explosive Type: small shaped seismic warhead (Baradium-Ytterbium-Collapsium)
  • Delivery Method: Self-Propelled
  • Effective Range: Battlefield
  • Area Of Effect: Large
  • Damage Output: High
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Magnetic Sensors capable of tracking the magnetic signature of cloaked and low-observable vessels
  • Advanced Tight/Wide beam datalink receiver
STRENGTHS
  • Come out, Come out: The torpedoes are equipped with advanced magnetic sensors which are capable of tracking the signatures of stealthy and even cloaked ships. Coupled with a datalink receiver to receive real-time intelligence from the launching ship, this gives it excellent capabilities in tracking and combatting stealth ships.
  • Here Comes the Boom: Using a Collapsium-Baradium Warhead with Ytterbium to stabilize and direct the resulting implosion, the Howlrunner torpedo has a very strong payload. Though only about 1/3 to 2/5 of the implosion caused by a standard seismic charge, the focused nature of the implosion allows for predictable and strong explosive power.
WEAKNESSES
  • Countermeasures!: While the magnetic trackers on the torpedo itself are highly advanced, that doesn't mean that they're perfect, and without a datalink from the firing ship - either because of its incapacitation or because it is maintaining EMCON - things such as a large cloud of magnetized chaff or a well-built decoy can fool the torpedoes
  • Minimum Range: The torpedo is ineffective and even dangerous at short ranges for varied reasons. Perhaps the most important one is that even the weaker and focused blast of the seismic warhead is capable of doing serious damage to the host ship if it is fired within an unsafe range. Less important is the fact that due to the size and weight of the warhead, at close ranges it has no time to reach speeds allowing it to evade point defenses and interceptor missiles
DESCRIPTION

With the proliferation of stealth ships and cloaking technology throughout the modern day galaxy, the Galactic Alliance began a program to develop weapons systems capable of combatting these dangerous and hidden foes. Through many trials and errors these scientists and engineers, working with Rendili Stardrive, were able to develop one of the pieces of this puzzle - as ancient as it was advanced, as deadly as it was elegant. Through this process came the Mk 50 tracking torpedo

Reading through the history books of ancient battles and through what intelligence they could pull about the stealth and cloaking ships proliferated through out the galaxy, they also poured through the data until they could find one or two common flaws in cloaking technology - and this they were able to find. Most cloaking technology, almost all of it even, was incapable of hiding the basest of magnetic signatures - and this was a flaw that had been present as far back as before the Clone Wars, being recorded in the biographies of one arachnid admiral - the Harch known as Admiral Trench.

Equipped with this knowledge, they outfitted the Mk 50 with advanced magnetic tracking sensors, capable of picking up even the faintest of magnetic and electromagnetic sensors, with the onboard brain sorting very quickly through common signatures to differentiate between a large asteroid, a flying piece of debris, and a possible starship. Coupled with this capability is a Laser/Subspace receiver, capable of receiving both tight beam and wide-beam transmissions, allowing the firing ship to relay new information, sensor data, or guidance to the torpedo mid-flight, allowing its tracking features to be augmented with advanced sensors or anti-stealth features aboard the launching ship.

Allowing for even a near-miss or glancing it to deal a devastating blow to a cloaked ship, the torpedo is armed with a small baradium-collapsium warhead, essentially a scaled-down seismic charge, stabilized with Ytterbium to give its implosion a focused and predictable character, compared to the more unpredictable and omnidirectional blast of its larger cousins. Though scaled down this warhead still packs a massive punch, which can even be dangerous to its own firing ship if deployed in close range.

Though its expensive price tag and complicated construction preclude it from being deployed across the navy, the Mk 50 is more than capable of providing a much-needed capability to a military beset on all sides and desperately needing advantages wherever it can get them.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Rendili StarDrive
  • Affiliation: Galactic Alliance
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: CGT-01 Gravimetric Tracking Grid
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Semi-Unique
  • Material:
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • High-Quality Nova-Crystal grid allowing for the reading of gravitic fluctuations for millions of kilometers.
  • Class 2 Droid Brain capable of translating the fluctuations on the crystal grid and analyzing using other sensors and known intel to provide possible signature matches
STRENGTHS
  • I See You!: There'll be little hiding behind a cloak, sensor jammers, or in a nebula with CGT-01 around. Using highly sensitive nova crystals in an extremely high-quality grid, and hooked up to a advanced bank of computers programmed to analyze the gravimetric signatures for possible matches, It's capable of seeing through most cloaks and penetrating the harsh sensor-blinding clouds of nebulae.
WEAKNESSES
  • Explosive Failure: While the stabilized nature and carbonite-cooled housing of the Nova Crystals is good enough to keep them from exploding under normal conditions, or even under the shock of battle, they are still very dangerous under the right conditions. A direct hit on the CGT-01 would cause a catastrophic explosion, incapacitating or destroying the host ship.
DESCRIPTION

Part of the Galactic Alliance's project to combat the growing proliferation of stealth ships was to create an advanced Crystal Gravfield Trap capable of extremely-long-range use and high sensitivity for military operations. The result of this product was the CGT-01 Gravimetric Tracking Grid. Equipped with stabilized but energized Nova Crystals aligned in a crystalline grid, these sensitive crystals are capable of reacting to small fluctuations created by passing ships even a million kilometers out, which is then translated and analyzed by a Class 2 Droid brain, with the signature then being compared to known and presumed signatures, allowing the system optionally provide confirmed, likely, or possible matches.
