New Haven [SJO Dominion of Durkteel AC, 35]

Stephanie Swail

Look what they've done to my dream
LOCATION: New Haven
OBJECTIVE: Habitat for Humanity
ZXDmlmR.png
It was another day and another chance for the Silver Jedi to expand, educate and assist. This time it was all hands to deck to help the refugee movement of Durkteel. Some of the Order were free to help heal and treat those coming in, while others gave their time to support job-seekers and bring in new trade and business.

Today, Stephanie was helping out in New Haven town, aiding and settling refugees making a new life for themselves in homes and businesses.

The Padawan stood with her hair tied up, cream Hapan gowns trailing to the ground and sleeves rolled up ready for work, a smile fixed on her face as she waved the new transport through the streets by the rolling river of the town. Giving the somewhat shy but appreciative refugees a wave as they passed, Stephanie was helping funnel them in and direct them to various areas of the town.

She had an ear-piece and was in talks with the Durkteel officials sectioning the town for those looking for housing and work, and also coordinate new construction and the placement of ready-made hubs.

”New transport coming up,” she spoke into the transmitter by her mouth.

Behind Stephanie, the construction site for a new build was blocked off and she helped guide people around and to various places. Some were looking for the Silver Circle and the aid they were here to provide by Grandmaster [member="Valae Kitra"] out in the fields, and some were looking for the jobs fair. In all, people were responding to the aid provided and it was good to be seen as something more than just soldiers, warriors and pilots.

Listening to [member="Tanaski Yumi"] with a gentle smile, Valae nodded. “Certainly! Perhaps a demonstration is in order.” With a nod, she motioned for the group of hopeful healers to follow. Moving down a small hill, they approached the first, and largest of the white tents. Inside, there were already patients waiting to be seen by medical personnel or Jedi healers. There were curtain barriers that offered some privacy, and there were also sections of open space with beds and benches. It was here that a few non-critical injured waited patiently.

The first of which was actually a volunteer that had come to help with the construction efforts.

The leg of his pant had been rolled, and he had been instructed to hold a bit of clean gauze against the wound. “Good morning,” Valae said to him, “We’re here to get you back up on your feet. I’m instructing a group right now, do you mind if we take a look?”

The man blinked, but shook his head.

Valae knelt down next to the injured man and gently moved the gauze away from the cut. “Alright, our triage team has already cleaned this wound – that’s the first step. If you’re away from the tents, we do have some sterile field generators that can be to ensure that wounds, hands, and treatment environment are completely clean. This wound is clearly seen, but some won’t be… go ahead, reach out with the force and sense this injury – healthy cells and tissue can be felt, as can the damaged cells.”

Pausing for a moment, she closed her eyes.

“Once you’re ready, you can enter a meditative state and focus your energy on the wound – healing the cells that are unhealthy. You can concentrate your efforts on the wound, and will it to close. If the patient is in pain, you can also extend your own presence and help to ease it. With the amulets, you need only to pour your energy into the crystal and hold it near the wound – or once you’re more advanced, you can use it to amplify your healing power.”

Before moving to close the wound just yet, she used reached out to control the pain, so that their patient could remain comfortable during the exercise.

“Would anyone like to try?”

By and large, Durkteel was your basic agricultural world. The farming planet was smack in the Mid-Rim and filled with a Saurian-type species who thankfully looked different enough that Fiolette wasn't about to experience Ssi-Ruuvi Imperium flashbacks. The Saurin was a subspecies of the Trandoshan and thus far were pleasant enough, "you'll have to remind me what we're lookin' for here." Gruffed Shed as he followed in behind Fiolette, while Kit and Rae were on either side of her. She looked over her shoulder as they walked further into town.

"We're here to find office space," she noted before looking forward again, "more importantly we want an education center. If I'm going to build here then I'd like to establish a training center so that way we don't have to keep shuffling people halfway across the galaxy, and can have them come here."

"And." Kit interjected, "we need a good place to have a bunker."

"Mhmm."

Rae elaborated, "unless we're changing that whole handheld weapons operations."

"I haven't decided yet," Fiolette quipped, "but why don't we turn here I think we'll be meeting with a guide soon enough."

“Yes Master Cathbodua, I’ll be sure the food is sent where it is needed." Making a mental note to read the supplies through thoroughly. Taiden was often behind everyone with a datatablet which was a fancy name for a clipboard, and today was no different. Liaising with people around the operation, and handling the more trivial matters so the Masters could concentrate on the more important tasks. His headpiece was secured and soon transmitting.

***Time Skip***

By now for example he'd clarified that Jedi would not be bringing fast food, that one portion of family food didn’t include half cousins twice removed, and that only specialist medical staff should attempt surgery on a wookiee’s grandmother to avoid an intergalactic scandal. Small details but important nonetheless.

Bowing a half bow to [member="Samara Raine"]. Eyes open. “Greetings and fair paths to you.” The Echani’s posture open but given the responsibility of what they were doing, not entirely relaxed either. He was handling a lot of calls at present, moving through his headpiece and onto his datatablet. Returning a more informal quarter bow to [member="Tanaski Yumi"] when he waved, offering the same to the Grandmaster [member="Valae Kitra"] as they all began arriving. The food and supplies were coming in on schedule, all moving as they had organized.

He did badly want to learn what [member="Cathbodua"] had offered to teach, but as was Taiden’s usual problem, he was focused on everything but himself. He was aware of it though, and placed the pad down to his side, observing all she did with fine concentration. “What do you sense inside Master, does the pain communicate, do you fight it, do you guide it, or do you soothe?” Or something else. Everyone he’d met had their own technique for healing. He’d begun to realise the pain itself was communicating, which might be obvious, I hurt here. Simple, but identifying where it was saying it through the force was no small feat for him, the nuances of the diagnosis all important "How do I achieve a fine diagnosis of their condition?"

At the beep signal, Irkaniel took off in backstroke and, in a medley, there was no other way. In her experience, lane assignment was more of a factor in a pool without gutter lanes, like this one; she could feel the Saurin organizers did not trust their cousins, making a doubly risky operation for the team and for the moneylaunderers that might have bet on them, using fixed-odds betting. Predictably Irkaniel was outclassed, but not so outclassed that Elianne or Varindar couldn't catch up to them in the second half of the race. A full six seconds behind the leader. Of course, the teams in the lead, sponsored by the Outfit and the Ta'jar Blood Gang, respectively. Wow. The Ta'jars truly have their hands everywhere in this sport, she thought, while the situation was not improving at all for the team from Trandosha, but the crowd did not seem to be fazed; they seemed to like the various changes in position as they jockeyed, while Varindar's blood pressure, especially her systolic one, seemed to increase without her actually swimming when the announcer called in the people in the lead.

"The Outfits and the Ta'jars are fiercely fighting each other but would a strong breaststroke allow the Purnimas to come from behind and take the lead from the Ta'jars and the Outfit?"

She listened to Taiden as the ships came and spoke looking over at him in the mask and her robes started to radiate. Healing energy around herself and channeling it into several of the healers. "It depends on what you are treating Taiden, where on the body is harmed. If the flesh needs mending you first focus to staunch the bleeding and repairing it, if there is pain in the different parts of the body but no broken skin, search and feel for broken bones or torn muscle and ligaments." She was looking at one fo the patients and while the woman seemed afraid of the masked jedi healer she was calmed and soothed from her hand hovering over the skin. "This woman for instance is pregnant, not to far along but just enough that there can be complications." She said it calmly and looked back at her motioning for some of the nurses. "We are going to take care of you in our main facility. Be calm and give the nurses your contact information. We wil inform your family." She got a nod of her head while she was walking and looked at the lesson the grandmaster was giving a lesson of in different tents. "I am uncertain of what the grandmaster is saying but it should be helpful. Should you wish to learn from her I can manage here Taiden. I am used to being alone." She looked at the big bear of a beorni that was here with her, from Sakura and one of the floor managers. "Oh don't say that boss, you are never alone. You brought the best team of healers and we called in the Feena. Once the medical station arrives we will be able to offer far more healing." He said it and she grinned a little under her mask. Looking at Taiden. "The feena is one of the mobile medical stations. Ten kilometers wide and high wit a fleet of medical ships we can use to handle patients and more then enough of the jedi healers that we have been training."

Tanasuki would notice [member="Taiden Keth"] but ultimately turned attention back to the Jedi master as she lead the hopefully healers into the the nearby tent leaving the other students behind for the time being. Pushing through the flap door he entered into the same room as Kitra, looking upon a worker who had suffered some sort of laceration along their leg, probably attained during the hasty construction work that had been going on recently.

Following the grand master lead, and trying to not get hungry in the process Tana listened and observed the healing process. The basic wound washing and treatment made sense, making sure everything was sterile and harmful object where remove. Talking about how such a power required the users to 'feel' the health and injured ones seemed a new concept, "I would like try, is there difference in feeling between healthy cells and damaged ones master"?

He replied, kneeling next to the patient, reaching out his hand, concentrating on the cut, similar to how he did during the art of small lessons, trying to determine the difference between the damaged cells and healthy one's keeping a ear our for the Grand Masters words of advice. Didn't want to screw this up dame make the wound even worse, throughout the process the small amulet around his neck pulsing with the force, making Tana feel, stronger.

Objective: REDACTED
Location: Mynock Station
Durkteel Orbital Station 2737 – otherwise known as ‘Mynock Station’ by the locals, due to the rampant infestations that occasionally took hold of the carbo bays for consumables. Carved out of an already-orbiting asteroid some time ago, it had rapidly descended into a decaying state due to overpopulation. It was a large processing point for refugees, with various large cargo containers serving as barely adequate temporary living quarters. The people here were dirty, sick, and tired. The local government did what they could, but with the sheer number of people coming through, there were bound to be people that went missing.

It was why it was such a lucrative target for human traffickers.

Through a dirty and scratched window, slightly obscured by a thin curtain, Cassius Droma looked through electrobinoculars at a warehouse across the way. It had been the focus of their investigation for the past few days, now. From what they had been told, a number of refugees were last seen heading here with the promise of work, or at least better settlement options than what the government was offering, only to never be heard from again.

It was a story they had heard all too often in their fight against trafficking. The current refugee crisis was an immense opportunity for recruiting slave labor, entrapping people that had no other options. Hopefully, by the end of the night, becoming an indentured servant here wouldn’t be one of them.

Turning from the window, Cassius stepped over to the table where a holo projector was showing a three-dimensional map of the trafficker’s area of operations. He was wearing his more civilian clothes, with his A180 blaster strapped to his hip and his lightsaber hiding under his jacket at the small of his back.

“Nothing going on right now,” he said. “Looks like they’re settling in for the night.” He leaned on the table, placing his palms on the cool, metal surface.

The current mission was one that she didn’t get a lot of briefing on, she followed Jyoti and Cassius without question and prepared for the worse. Her more noisier snacks were left home and she was stuck with whatever they brought for rations and other sources of food. The spurt of hunger was starting to calm down, when she had arrived on Kashyyyk she was practically starved. With the constant access to food, she had finally filled out a bit and looked healthy. Casual clothing was the uniform and she wore a slightly over sides hoodie with a tall collar. Her little face was tucked under the collar as she watched Cassius peer out the dusty window.

Charlie sat upon the ground as she was doing her best to hide, she really didn’t have to worry much about standing out. She was rather short and probably didn’t draw much attention to herself anyways. Her lightsaber, much like Cassius was hidden away under the hoodie as she sat there and played with the strings on her clothing. No games, no food, nothing was brought to entertain the padawan. Business was the entertainment. Nodding, she looked towards the holo projector. She examined in and then glanced towards Jyoti then towards Cassius.

“So what’s the plan then? Still surveillance?”

There was a bit of sadness in the last bit of her question, the padawan was excited and wanted to prove herself, but knew that if she got too excited things would spiral out of control and people could die. Charlie had to keep her self in check and follow the orders issued.

"We'll secure a bunker on another world," Fiolette managed just as their guide was out of earshot. "Don't want to bring any harm to the Silvers, but this is a little too small for what I'm looking for." She needed a little more room, "well you know what. We'll start with this and if we drum up more interest then we'll purchase a larger facility."

Kit, Rae, and Shed weren't even sure why they were there at this point, but Shed replied. "Sounds like a plan, but what's this about the weapons thing?"

"It had been part of House Verd Hangar and Armory and they have blueprints but nothing... material," and to be quite honest, Fiolette didn't like the idea of selling guns. Guns to put on your ships, sure, why not. The office building they were in was as one would assume empty. The guide came back and was handed a credit stick and sent on his way, Kit and Rae looked at one another.

Kit then agreed, "and we haven't sold anything either it's literally a useless operation."

"Agreed, so what do you put in its place?"

"Engineering and science my dear Donnager." Fiolette quipped with a wink.

Krass Wyms

Jedi Tech Division
Factory Judge
Objective: 1&3
Post: 8

Krass allowed the force to flow through herself as she worked on the project witht he different jedi who were working here. She could see and feel the others though when it was finishing up. The special devices would serve a purpose if she was lucky though before one of the engineers came with a report of the construction efforts. "Padawan Krass we do have some reports, from the job fair we have recruited a number more to work construction and more to handle the food. They have begun to use the modular kitchens that were brought down and put in place with the warehouses of supplies." She gave a nod of her head to them with a look at the project. She could let it settle until she was ready. Her saber would be able to work with her whenever she needed it. "That is good, keep working with them and place them in some positions. Saori and Seimei will be looking for recruits. We have more then enough access to credits to pay them and skilled people can be hard to find."

Objective: Job fair

"Disen perishable merchandise wesa sellen: wesa cannot field a whole lot of pre-orders. However, what mesa needen to know issa da lead time for orderin chocolate from Skor"

"Skor chocolate takes a week to deliver"

One week lead time for the ingredient that has the longest lead time; Ugohr would estimate all other ingredients, flour, cream, yeast, marraschino cherries and whatnot could take shorter lead times, especially since they could be locally sourced, unlike chocolate. Now, he had to be fielding bids for those ingredients. Not the most familiar with supply chain management, but hey, that's what his Squib staffer is for. He might have been promoted into this position from executive chef of one of those Pizza Hutt locations, perhaps because he knew how to haggle for the best deals on supplies, just that his experience in the kitchen was an asset to this component of the operation. Ugohr was busy reviewing the list of ingredients required to prepare the items on the menu, fresh or frozen, as well as their suppliers, so he would be fielding bids for each of the key ingredients, while remaining mindful of the ingredients' estimated life shelves. Because the Squib supply chain manager knew better than anyone else around Ugohr that economies of scale can turn into diseconomies of scale if there is so much inventory carried that the raw material stays longer than its shelf life.

Trec was still outclassed by the Purnimas, Outfits, Ta'jars, in lanes 3, 4 and 5 respectively... Poodoo: who, other than Kellin [Revik], in the hotel team, went on to swim for off-world clubs? But at least I know the last two legs aren't made of ex-Hotelies, or else they would just not be in lane 5, she thought, while Varindar recognized in the Ta'jar breaststroke swimmer a former member of the hotel team, and also calling upon her memories of the swimmers passing through the revolving door that was the hotel team under the Ta'jars, and the turnover of swimmers at the hotel was as high as the staff's since every swimmer on the hotel team was, in fact, a hotel employee. She could feel that the guy was channeling his frustrations of being overshadowed by her in and out of the pool to swim his best, especially since he had a glimpse of her for all the time he was near the starting block. And she watched the size of the order on Elianne and Varindar increase since Trec finished his four 25m laps about two-thirds of a lap behind Kellin, or about 10 seconds, who was in the lead by that point. And then Elianne began to catch up to the rest of the teams as she dove into the deep end of this slow pool.

"Go, Elianne!"

Valae was pleased as Tana volunteered to give healing a try. It took courage to attempt something new, especially in front of others. But she was sure that he would do just fine. Her brows lofted slightly as he asked a question, and she thought for a moment before answering. “There is a distinct difference, you see.” She started, sensing the wound for herself once more. “If you focus on the cut itself, you may feel that the wound is lacking… a certain sense of life.”

While the healing process was much the same for each healer, Valae knew that each would likely experience in slightly different ways. And it was difficult for her to put her own experiences into words.

“If you close your eyes and shift your focus to the patient’s leg, you should be able to sense the shift between the healthy tissue and that which has been damaged.” She offered an encouraging smile, “It takes practice – but that’s why we’re here today, right? With time, it will become easier and you’ll be able to recognize it even faster. Focus on reinvigorating the damaged cells with the healing energy, and will the wound to close.”

Next, she would address Taiden’s questions, and give Tana a chance to try his hand at closing the wound.

“In terms of pain treatment, it is important to gauge the amount of pain your patient is in. People react to pain in many different ways, some are weakened by it, and some may even try to hide it. Just as Jedi are able to control their own pain, it is possible to extend this effect to others. I have done so to help our patient here, just to keep him comfortable while we work.”

She offered the man a nod. The construction worker sat patiently, eyeing Tana quite curiously.

“Making a diagnosis can be quite a complicated matter. Of course, it is important to get a background from your patient – find out what occurred when the injury was sustained. Using the force is very intuitive, it shows you where there are abnormalities. However, the use of medical tools and consulting traditional physicians is quite helpful to form a detailed diagnoses, especially for disease, infections, things you may not be able to see right away.”

Reaching over, she lifted a medical datapad and handed it over for Taiden to experiment with.

Objective: Taken (BYOO)

In the far corner of the room, Jyoti worked on a datapad, coordinating with tactical teams of local SWAT teams and Shadow operatives slowly filtering into the district from stealth transports.

Over the course of a few days, a picture of the area had been formed from surveillance gathered by the trio of Jedi on a stakeout. It was right about the time that activity in and around the warehouse started to peter out, then it would pick up a few hours later with transports leaving the docking bays in the back. She deemed this as the best time to raid the compound, but there was one more thing she required before it could commence.

"Tactical units are on the way," she announced to Cassius and Charlie. "But they need an internal layout of the warehouse, and some idea of foot traffic inside to know how to best carry out their insertions. I'm going to give you two an hour to check things out so I can complete my tactical plan for the raid. I'll be sitting back and monitoring you two through our mini cams.

"Now, there's one more item you'll need." She set down her datapad to pop open a large duraplast case, then waved over the two padawans to receive the gear inside.

"Phantom stealth system, compliments of Locke and Key," she explained, holding up a pair of cloaks in her hand. "Optical camouflage and sound dampening system in one. As long as you're not running of performing any extreme activities, these Phantom cloaks will keep you well hidden while you operate."

She handed them each a cloak to test while she continued with her briefing. "You might see some disturbing things in there, but you need to keep your bearing and refrain from taking any rash actions that can jeopardize the whole operation. You're just there to map out the area for our raid later."

That comment was more directed toward Charlie, who had a tendency act on impulse, especially when she perceived injustice in action. A low key assignment like this was a good opportunity for her to learn patience which was partly why Jyoti had personally volunteered for the mission.

"Get your things together and get ready to leave in five. The dock area looks to be the easiest point of entry from a physical standpoint, but I'm sure it will have plenty of surveillance because of that fact, so tread carefully."

Taiden was also used to being alone. Too much so you might say, indeed his Echanar Taresa Kae often said so. Yes it was formalized he’d approached her on the cruise and she’d said yes. Surely a match for the ages, Keth and Kae unified. Sadly blind to the tragic truth.

But his thoughts had strayed, and he chastised himself for allowing his concentration to slip even briefly. Bringing his attention back to the moment. He looked between the Grandmaster and Cathbodua, learning from each! Double the experience for a very keen healer in training.

Taiden took the datapad in his hands. The flat 2d surface wasn’t as useful to him, reading at a very slow pace word by word. He preferred 3D constructs so made a few alterations, to be able to see the data in motion, rather than statically as his race preferred. This meant he could read it much more quickly, the data he followed along like a body, the patients form overlaid beneath the information.

Vastly preferring the theory, he could talk forever on the intellectual aspects of it. Read books, and then books about the books and the authors who wrote them. So he was silent for a good long while, lost in his thoughts where he spent much of his time. “Thank you Grandmaster Kitra.” The Echani offered a deeper gentler bow, eyes closed in trust. “Do you suggest using the force or the tools first to make a diagnosis?” Instinct and intuition not something he’d developed in relation to healing.

“I feel torn between the diagnostic representations the instrument gives me and getting a feel for the patient I am treating through the force.” Which was honest. He wanted to both use the datapad and yes the force at the same time. Hmm, perhaps that was possible too. His posture became deeply contemplative. Master Cathbodua often used devices to bolster her technique, perhaps he could too?

Lacking a certain sense of life, yes that made sense, concentrating more the damaged cells seemed, voided of the force in a way, being a vampire though Tana could sense a little more than that. The boy could feel the flow of blood, the life-giving energy that his kind so desperately sought after, the area around the wound lacking in it, "me feel now, no energy in the flesh", it was becoming clearer, well more like he now could differentiate the difference.

It seemed a little tedious but as master [member="Valae Kitra"] said it was practice, just like everything else in time he would get better, until it came just as natural as any other force power. Letting the grand master answer [member="Taiden Keth"] question Tana began to meditate deeper, letting his power slowly work its way around the dead and dying cells, bit by bit resorting life to them, small at first but in time and with the help for the amulet the rate of healing began to increase.

Still it was nothing compared to Kitra's own powers and required much more concentration, still it was better than nothing, though the concept on dumbing the pain was a little lost to him, how did one do that properly? Something to do with the nerve endings and use for force empathy or mind tricks? Opening his eyes, the young boy's gazed turned to the grand master, "how one remove pain from patient? what mean by extent presence"?

"Might be a good idea to head back and make sure our kids are playing nice with the locals," Donnager mentioned.

Fiolette smirked, "of course."

"And you can tell me about this, engineering and science."

The group began their trek back to the convention center after having purchased their office space. Fiolette explained what she wanted to do, "after the development of the new crystal engine, I realized we would need to become more heavily involved in creating these synthetic crystals. As such, I wanted to develop a separate arm of our company for engineering these items."

"Or." Donnager interjected while Kit and Rae walked behind them both, the two lovers took in the sight of New Haven.

"Or, we fold the weapons aspects of our operations and simply label it starship components," Fiolette replied, "but creating a separate arm for crystals and ore still has not left my mind."

Donnager nodded and walked beside Fiolette. "Didn't you talk to that gal on Kal'Shebbol?"

"Mhmm? Yes, yes, but that was to secure Mahlowe Freight to ferry our goods in the Outer Rim."

Fiolette stopped in her tracks and looked at the hulking form of Shed Donnager. "Why?"

"Didn't they have a mining thing there?"

"Ah, yes, Voith Mining."

Donnager went on, "buy it, make it Voith Minerals and Resources, so we can get the raw materials, refine them and that will bring down our costs. But hey, I'm just the cook."

"My dear you are more than just the cook, and that is an excellent idea," Fiolette looked over her shoulder and smiled. "Come along, best we get to the convention center and let these two have their time."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah love and all that drek."

As Charlie asked what the plan still was, Cassius looked to Jyoti, the newly christened Master of the Order. He could have guessed that they would be doing some type of infiltration. If the raid was going to go well, then they needed all of the intelligence they could gather, and that included what was on the inside.

Cassius was certain that he would never want to go into a building with that many guarded men and not at least know the layout. If they could identify rooms, and especially where the victims were being kept, it would make the raid all the more easier.

He accepted the cloak from Jyoti and flung it around his shoulders, fastening it around his neck. Squeezing a small button on the edges of the cloth, a muffled static crackle sounded as a wave of blue electricity sparkled throughout the material, leaving behind it the active camouflage. A cursory look told him that while the cloak would certainly help in concealment, it wasn’t perfect. Skills in stealth would still be tantamount to success. Luckily, he was a Jedi Shadow-in-training.

Turning the camouflage on the cloak off and removing the hood, Cassius looked to Jyoti. “So we’re just gathering intel? Nothing we want to mess with to make the raid easier?” He figured that if they were mildly successful, they could try to shut down a few security systems or defenses while they were on the inside.

While he awaited her answer, he stepped over to another table that had some additional gear that he could attach to his utility belt. A datapad with a three-dimensional scanning module would allow them to map out interior rooms with ease. Two more power packs for his A180, and he was ready to go.
