Neuscan (Sujict’s Crypt)

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
First Recorded History
The first recorded population on Neuscan were human, these inhabitants carried dark side sympathies and would be conquered by the old republic. These dark side humans possessed many abilities some considered to be unnatural, notably the population did not seem to die of age, and would live forever in good health if no exterior force intervened. This ability was granted to them through a dark side nexus located on the planet, this nexus taking the form of a large pyramid with an altar located within it. When the Republic occupied the planet Jedi investigated the nexus, through their actions they deemed the nexus to be pacified and a temple would be built near the site so that the order may watch over it.
Joining The Republic
Neuscan would be integrated into the Republic very early on in its recorded history, and go on to become a significant developed world throughout the Old Republic.
Forming of the Ecunopolis
Around 80 ABY, Neuscan was classified as an ecumenopolis as its urban areas now covered the entire surface of the planet. Neuscan’s economy and population did not stop growing or slow down however, and the foundation for a layered city-wide planet began.
Gulag Virus Collapse And Reign Of Terror
In 425 ABY, by the time of the Gulag virus, Neuscan had 22 urban layers, 22 planet-wide cities built upon each other. As the galaxy fell into chaos Neuscan was devastated, the bottom levels were turned into mass graves when planetary officials still had the resources to move bodies. As galactic governance fell apart and Neuscan was isolated, a Sith lord seized control of the planet. Darth Sujict's rule would be one of calculated madness and extinction. The plague only did half the work, Darth Sujict measured his rule to not be so blatantly suicidal and cruel as to cause an immediate uprising, he also took the care to empower the right people who would remain loyal until it was too late. During an event called “Sujict’s decree”, the nexus would be reactivated and grant eternal life to the planet once again. Every person who had died during the plague and Sujict’s rule rose from the dead, the planet transformed into a roaring tomb, loyal to and controlled by Sujict’s whims. The survivors on the planet organized and fought bravely, though even they recognized the planet as lost. Evacuation efforts would be their primary goal. During their resistance, even amongst the chaos paralyzing the galaxy, a team of Jedi came to the survivor’s rescue. These Jedi would slay Darth Sujict in the dark side nexus, now named Sujict’s Edict. With undead still covering the entire planet, the evacuations would continue and the planet would be left unpopulated.
Environmental Consequences
During his reign, the struggle against Darth Sujict, and his undead hordes, another apocalypse would strike the world. Before Neuscan was covered in spiraling urban districts it featured vast oceans with over three quarters of the planet’s surface being covered in water. Sujict’s terror and destruction was so absolute that the structural integrity and atmospheric control of the city-wide planet began to fail. The organized resistance through a series of controlled demolitions collapsed large portions of the world’s urban areas, so that the returning oceans did not flood evenly throughout the entire planet, sacrificing billions to save even more. These collapsed areas would go on to form the planet's oceans.
After Darth Sujict was slain by the Jedi, the hero knights attempted to nullify the dark side nexus on the planet, this was done to partial success. The force alignment of the nexus would change, and with it the nexus’s planet wide effects would also change. Instead of granting eternal life or raising the dead, the nexus mutated and allowed for the rapid growth of an ecosystem on the planet.
Post Collapse
Over the next 200 years, through the planet’s former zoos, and through smuggling as the world became a popular pirate and remote smuggling hub, many exotic fauna and flora would make their way to Neuscan and be introduced to the developing ecosystem. During this time the dangers of the planet prevented a significant population from developing, and due to its history the world became popularly known as “Sujict’s Crypt”.
Early (Re)Development
After 200 years since the fall of Neuscan, in 632 ABY, the settlement now known as Hondo city was declared. The name derives from a legendary figure, and while not known for certain the founders of the city likely named it as an homage to the city's origin, as it developed over time from a pirate, smuggling, and later trade hub. The initial burst of population to the planet was caused by a growing rumor of a massive trove of beskar, which caused a phenomenon known as a beskar rush. While the treasure hunters were unsuccessful in their search, there were many of them that stayed on the planet. Despite that, the adventurer’s most significant impact was challenging, chasing out, and even taming portions of the wildlife allowing for further development of the planet. The fate of the beskar treasure was later revealed upon subsequent investigation by the modern Neuscan government; the rumor originated from legitimate records of beskar being used on the planet by the pre-collapse government during the construction of the ecumenopolis. The beskar was used to create a composite material which was used for the construction of critical infrastructure on the planet, which has allowed the planet wide city to have survived for so long despite being un-maintained for centuries. The beskar does not exist in substantial concentration in the composite material to warrant resource extraction, though unprofitable attempts have been made.
Modern Development
After another 200 years have passed, in the modern era, Neuscan now hosts a sizable population of 2.1 billion people. The planet is divided into two provinces, Hondo and Yonto Province, which house the vast majority of the population while the rest of the planet is organized into what's known as the territories which cover 90% of the planet but only contain 5 million people. Neuscan’s biggest economic sector is that of manufacturing. Neuscan is a very industrial planet, manufacturing a variety of goods for domestic use and galactic export. The Neuscan arms sector was known for specializing in hyperdrives and ion weaponry. As the planet's surface is covered in layers of abandoned city, there is very little room for growing crops. There have been initiatives to build over or demolish areas to make room for farming, Neuscan is still unable to sustain itself and imports over half of its agricultural needs. The abandoned city covering the planet’s surface has also caused construction and infrastructure issues. It is not uncommon for major roads to be built over the ruins, and many buildings are built upon platforms that reach above the derelict buildings, or upon larger and flatter buildings that can act as a platform. In most areas though the inhabitants have moved into the abandoned structures and repurpose existing infrastructure, often renovating them extensively, or building upon wider city streets. Neuscan was a proud world of the Galactic Alliance, while it had mandatory conscription, it only sent volunteers off world to serve in the GA military, even then most conscripts and regular soldiers were happy to go. Patriotism towards the GA was pushed for an ulterior motive by the Neuscan government. For the longest time there had always been a rift between the two provinces of Hondo and Yonto, allegiance to the GA created a unifying purpose.
Fall Of The Galactic Alliance & Imperial Coup Attempt
When Coruscant was falling to the Empire, riots and panic engulfed Neuscan. During the chaos a cabal of traitor governors, army officers, corporate entities, and congressmen on Neuscan initiated a plot to seize power. The president and multiple people who would succeed him were assassinated, and the presidency fell to a member of this cabal. The Neuscan government declared loyalty to the Empire and conspirators seized the National Congress building, and arrested all officials who weren’t part of the plot.
This immediately sparked a popular uprising. Mass protests engulfed the planet, when the army was deployed against the protesters they defected and conducted a counter-coup. The Military and the protestors negotiated the formation of a provisional government until order could be restored and elections held.
Post State Of Emergancy
While the emergency government, also known as the Neuscan Provisional Government is still in power, the state of emergency has officially ended with the end of martial law in most areas and restoration of most civil liberties.
After the GA fell Neuscan also suffered a devastating economic crisis, while the quick and effective response from the NPG prevented the worst of the consequences and is allowing for a recovery, the situation has still caused a deterioration of the planet's stability.
Elections have yet to be held and as their deadline approaches tensions are inflamed further. The biggest rise in violence comes from the Yonto Liberation Front, a separatist organization, not to be confused with the Confederacy faction relevant in the galaxy, but rather a group advocating for the political separation and independence of the province of Yonto and the division of the planet between Hondo and Yonto. Other paramilitary organizations have risen as well, declaring loyalty to various political causes. The government has effectively lost control of much of the sparsely populated territories as it prioritizes the stability of the provinces.
The Territories
The inhabitants of the territories are often viewed with admiration or superstition, these people live in a place those in the provinces would never dare visit, however from the normal person’s eyes these people might also be death cultists, Sith, and witches. In a similar way as how those in the provinces view those in the territories, those in the territories also view those who live below the surface. The territories are overseen by the Territorial Administration, attempts have been made but there is not enough infrastructure to allow the inhabitants of the territories a say in the TA through electoral means. Most of those in the territories know the TA as “those guys who come by and give a week's worth of food and supplies every two months, or might burn down a few buildings looking for witches.”. Most people in the territories live in tight knit communities, though some hardened and mad individuals are able to make it on their own. The culture and practices of these communities varies drastically as they span the entire planet. They are often separated by vast distances and travel between them is difficult, as expected when one goes beneath the surface the population density decreases dramatically as food becomes scarce and the threat of the undead increases. Other settlements in the territories include legal and illegal trade hubs, and a series of outposts maintained by the Territorial Administration.
Hondo & Yonto Provinces
The Provinces are the core of Neuscan as over 99% of the planet’s population reside within them. Life is relatively stable, most of the population is concentrated into various cities, towns and urban areas scattered throughout the provinces, Hondo City within Hondo Province being the most notable one. Despite the economic collapse, the government response included many work programs which has kept unemployment low, though there is simply less to go around these days. The increase in political violence has been most notable in the province of Yonto, as separatist and anti-separatist paramilitaries clash along with government forces. Though other groups in Hondo Province have formed denouncing the government’s heavy handed response and authoritarian tendencies. There is an undercurrent of tension and dread in society, escalation feels inevitable.
New Eshan
When the GA fell Neuscan was faced with a serious problem regarding the supply of food. While emergency reserves could keep them afloat for a time, the government felt the need to establish a reliable source of food which they would have complete control of, not wanting to rely on trade in an unstable galaxy for such an important resource. That combined with the fact that the inhabited moon of New Eshan was independent under and immediately after the GA, and could possibly side with Neuscan’s enemies, was enough of a reason for Neuscan to occupy the moon. New Eshan’s population is only half a million, a fraction of Neuscan’s population; the ease of the occupation also did not hurt. Workers have been brought in to further develop the agricultural industry on New Eshan. Most of the native population on New Eshan have become disenfranchised, they are politically irrelevant and more often than not simply in the way. Many on New Eshan view resistance as futile. The workers and soldiers being brought in is already a quarter of the planet’s population, the military power and proximity of Neuscan means that even if the will was there that, the most dogged resistance by the Eshani would be quickly crushed.
Underlevels
Under the provinces of Hondo and Yonto, the underlevels are relatively safe, in certain areas along provincial borders this may not be as true, but these areas are policed and while not many choose to live down there some still do. Under the territories however these underlevels change dramatically. The roots and vines of plants on the surface stretch down a couple levels, but at a certain point life becomes immensely difficult to sustain. In the remote areas of the planet, by the 6th level the threat of the undead is a common danger. As one approaches the 18th level, which some refer to as the bottom level as the next 4 levels are flooded, one can hear the continues unending roar of the undead.
The Undead
The undead are the same creatures from centuries ago when Darth Sujict once ruled. Despite popular myths, bites from these creatures do not cause victims to join their numbers, but bites are still lethal 99% of the time, if not treated in the most advanced of hospitals, due to disease and centuries of an eternal state of decay. The physical appearance of these undead resemble what many droids would be happy to call a “meat bag”. The eternal state of decay they are trapped in has caused these creatures to lose all discernible features and for their skin to become a bland grey with saggy flesh. Despite their state, their senses and physical abilities seem to repair themselves over time. The undead can still run at fast speeds, their teeth, eyes, and ears still function better than they should as they too appear to be in decay, their ears are little more than holes, and their teeth are rotten and look more like a messy patch of small sharp grass along their mouth. A green mist emits from the undead’s eyes.
Though these rumors have yet to be proven, isolated communities in the territories report different undead, ones raised recently and having yet to be in such a state of decay, still resembling the people they once were.
Witches & Sith
Darth Sujict was deemed a heretic by his Sith peers, as he had a sort of obsession with night sister magic. Despite this, after his death he would obtain a level of fame among the Sith from a historical and academic manner. Sith travels to Neuscan in its early stages of repopulation had an effect on some of the isolated settlements across the planet. The Sith indirectly influenced the religious and spiritual practices of some settlements, creating the first Sith cults. As governance returned to Neuscan the Sith no longer visited the planet, the cults were left to their own devices. A schism would occur among these cults, as many adopted the practices influenced by the night sisters as they delved into the history of their world and the heretic Sith Lord they idolized. These cults have been pushed into hiding in the underlevels of the planet. The witches are fixated on the undead that stalk there.

- Demonym: Name 1: Neuscanians | Name 2 (derogatory): Cryptonians, Cryptids
- Region: Inner Rim
- System Name: Neuscan System
- System Features: The primary feature is the inhabited planet of Neuscan. Additionaly Neuscan features a derelict and shattered orbital ring which used to function as a shipyard. There is also a moon named New Eshan orbiting a gas giant with a small Echani and Thyrsian population that functions as an agricultural word which helps sustain Neuscan.
- Location: in the hex above Roxuli and to the left of Kril’Dor
- Major Imports: Foodstuffs, agricultural goods, fuel, luxury goods
- Major Exports: Industrial goods, Advanced components, hyperdrives, Ion weaponry (disrupters), Water
- Unexploited Resources: Many resources are mined from the abandoned structures covering the planet. Durasteel, Advanced components and materials,
- Gravity: Standard
- Climate: Temperate
- Primary Terrain: The planet is 40% ocean , 57% abandoned ecumenopolis (+40% underwater), 2% restored ecumenopolis.
Of the abandoned section of the ecumenopolis, there is a variety of climates, jungle growing over the abandoned buildings, arid landscape that cause desolate dry structures to rust and deteriorate (beware of tetanus), and icy glaciers that rise higher than the urban landscape creating some of the only flat land on the planet. - Atmosphere: Type I
- Capital City: Hondo City
- Planetary Features: The planet is mostly covered in abandoned, overgrown, and flooded urban areas as it was once a full ecumenopolis. Roughly 10 percent of the planet is significantly inhabited and developed, with 2% of the planet's ecumenopolis being restored.
This city wide planet, like Coruscant, has different levels to it as cities were built upon cities. There are 22 levels on Neuscan, with the bottom 4 levels being completely flooded.
From space at night, the planet’s population density can be starkly observed. Lights showing the size of the two provinces with concentrated brighter lights scattered around in each province showing cities. The province of Hondo being slightly larger than Yonto, also features a single especially bright light that stands out from all night time features when observed from space, being Hondo city which contains 900 million people, 60% of Hondo province's population. The mag train rails connecting the cities can also be observed. - Major Locations: The planet contains 2 populated areas that are each organized into provinces, these provinces are 2,500 km apart at their closest point. The larger one is known as the province of Hondo, it contains 1.5 billion people with over half of those people living in the planet’s capital city, Hondo City, which is also located in the province. The other province is the province of Yonto with a population of 600 million. There is a large system of Mag-rails which stretch over the abandoned buildings and the great distance separating the provinces of Yonto and Hondo, connecting the two provinces.
- Force Nexus (Optional): Neutral
Intent: The force nexus was originally harnessed by the Sith Lord who once ruled the planet centuries ago, Darth Sujict caused the fall of the city. The Nexus was originally dark, and raised the dead from the planet’s original inhabitants. The Nexus was then tampered by jedi, and now causes the planet's fauna and flora to mutate and grow allowing for the planet to develop an ecosystem in a relatively short period of time. The Jedi caused the Nexus to weaken over an extended period of time, the size of the nexus’s effects were once planetary, but have decayed to be of medium size. After a few more centuries the effects of the force nexus will be nullified.
Nexus Name: Sujict’s Edict - Nexus Alignment: Neutral
- Size: Medium
- Strength: Weak
- Accessibility: All that is known is that the nexus was located on the bottom level of the planet, meaning it is certainly under water. As the Neuscan’s oceans were formed when sections of the urban planet collapsed, that means that the Nexus is either located at the bottom of one of these oceans covered in additional debris, or it is in the non-collapsed parts of the bottom level which is still entirely flooded.
- Effects: The effects of the Nexus are not perceptible over a couple of years, but rather through centuries of exposure to the local wildlife where the Nexus still holds influence, it has created massive and dangerous beasts. These creatures sometimes travel beyond the effects of the nexus and across the planet, creating new variants of species unique to this world.
- Native Species: The original/first species of this planet were Humans. The planet functioned as a prosperous world of the galactic republic centuries ago. After Sujict’s decree the planet became uninhabited as the population died or fled.
- Immigrated Species: The planet was recolonized in 613 ABY. The planet is 70% human, with the rest being a variety of alien species from across the galaxy, there is also a notable Echani and Thyrsian sub population which immigrated from a gas giant’s moon in the same system as Neuscan, as they were seeking more economic opportunities as their home was occupied and repurposed as an agricultural world after the fall of the Galactic Alliance.
- Population:
10% of planet - Heavy
90% of planet - Insignificant
The planet's population sits at 2.1 billion people, however, the vast majority of the population inhabits 10% of the planet, while the other 90% of the planet is inhabited by just 5 million people scattered across the planet. There are 2 densely inhabited areas, Hondo province contains 1.5 billion with 900 million of those people living in Hondo City, and the second province known as Yonto province contains 600 million people, with the population distributed across the entire province in cities and rural areas. - Demographics:
Human - 70%
Varied Alien Species - 30%
Echani & Thyrsian - <1% (the moon of New Eshan has a population of 500 thousand Echani and Thyrsians, a portion of that population has immigrated to Neuscan in search of economic opportunity and to flee deteriorating living conditions)
While both the provinces of Hondo and Yonto are majority human, the human majority is much more significant in the province of Yonto making up 90% of the population. - Primary Languages: Galactic Basic
- Culture: As this planet was depopulated and recolonized, much of the culture was brought over from where the population migrated from. The dominant culture comes from the galactic core, notably Coruscant and Fondor, though there are many cultures present from across the galaxy.
The majority of the 2.1 billion population living in the developed areas have lives similar to that of any other planet in the inner or core of the galaxy, it is an industrial society with a noticeable martial presence with most of the population having once served in the military as a conscript. There is no widely popular religion with most of society being secular. Society is largely polarised as the government and population respond to a variety of threats striking the planet, new ones rising with the fall of the Galactic Alliance and old threats rising once again in the chaos. In recent times there has been a growing popularity for High Human Culture in some areas.
In the less populated 90% of the planet, known as the territories, life is harsh. Most people live in isolated communities and villages, very few would be able to survive on their own. It is safer as one gets closer to the provinces, and as a result those that live further away from the provinces on the other side of the planet become increasingly hardened. These communities vary drastically as they span the entire planet, and even some are able to survive in the levels below where the threat of the undead is still an active danger. They live off the land, many harvest rare materials from the ruins to sell if there are any nearby government or independent outposts, or if they are close to the provinces.
- Government: Unitary Republic; centralized in Hondo City
- Affiliation: Neuscan Provisional Government (NPG)
- Wealth: High, The planet still maintains a functioning economy with manufacturing as its backbone. With much of the galaxy in a state of conflict, Neuscan is able to profit by selling weapons and industrial materials to not just sustain itself, but also restore the planet. Albeit at a slow pace.
- Stability: Medium, was once a GA member world and flourished under their rule. Following the fall of the GA, Neuscan fell into a state of emergency. As the Empire rose and the GA collapsed, riots encompassed the planet until the provisional government restored order after a failed Imperial coup.
Political polarization and hysteria around Imperial and dark side cult elements run wild throughout the planet. Government control and authority has been restricted to the Hondo and Yonto provinces as they maintain order, allowing hostile forces to run unrestricted in the sparsely inhabited territories. The most significant rise in violence has been by the separatists in the Yonto province, not to be confused with the CIS, as many sympathetic parts of the population to the Yonto separatist cause view the Emergency Government of the NPG as an attempt to finally crush their attempt at independence. That said, Neuscan is still a wealthy world, its inhabitants, though living in interesting times, can still go about life without expecting danger or death, the threat of the cults and the empire is limited to hysteria, as any presence they have is not within the provinces where the vast majority of the planet's population resides. While the threat of Yonto separatists is rising, the danger they present is still limited.
- Freedom & Oppression: Civil liberties are officially guaranteed, but due to the attempted takeover by Imperial elements, and a rise in separatist violence, the provisional government had previously suspended such rights during that state of emergency.
- Military:The planet has a strong military, during the Galactic Alliance the planet was known as a significant weapons manufacturing location and a large number of soldiers were recruited from the planet as it could be described as largely patriotic. All eligible citizens are conscripted for a year into the military, then returned to civilian life where they act as a reserve force if called upon. With the fall of the GA the arms industry has been nationalised and additional reserves have been called upon as a state of emergency has been declared.
Army
The army is of a large size, well trained and motivated, and with an even larger reserve of former soldiers the army can call upon to drastically increase their size. Manufacturing on the planet has allowed the Neuscan Armed Forces to maintain a sizable mechanized and armored force. With the recent upheaval and precarious position Neuscan now finds itself in, and with the nullification of many of the humanitarian laws and restrictions that fell with the Galactic Alliance, the Neuscan Armed Forces have been acquiring a large amount of previously banned Ion disruptors.
Navy
When the GA fell, Neuscan was left with a large navy containing 2 large carriers and a battleship. However, as Neuscan is a single planet they are unable to maintain such a fleet, so the majority of the fleet has been decommissioned and is sitting in dockyards. A downsized but respectable fleet remains in operation, including one of the carriers.
Natural Defences
As this planet is covered in a massive sprawling urban environment, land combat on this planet is very difficult, and air to ground craft are hampered by the cover that the buildings provide ground targets. While the NAF maintains a large mechanized force from when they served in the Galactin Alliance, due to the landscape they conduct most operations with light infantry or airborne forces. In terms of air support because of the cover that the urban landscape provides, within the underpopulated territories or during extreme circumstances the NAF practices a doctrine of local annihilation rather than precision airstrikes. - Technology: Galactic Standard
