DESCRIPTION
The Legacy of the Nebulon-B Escort Frigate is one that stretches back into antiquity. It was an adaptable and modular line of warships that were capable of fulfilling any role that it’s Captain so desired. Going so far as to warrant multiple iterations over the decades, burning through portions of the aurebesh alphabet with each successive design. When the newest iteration was designed by an Interstellar Corporation other than Kuat Drive Yards, the Nebulon held the honour of taking the fifteenth position - Leth. Such a design choice was meant as a tribute to the esteemed shipwright and their ancient architects, whilst embodying the technological advances of the modera era. The Nebulon-L would become yet another one of Republic Engineering’s ‘past meets the present’ designs.

While the exterior appearance was lovingly recreated, the outer hull found itself wholly upgraded in terms of structural composition. There were many lessons that were learned from reviewing previous iterations of the Nebulon Frigates, and the Coruscanti Shipwright sought to do their best to counter these inherent weaknesses. Thus, the armour plating of the Nebulon-L was enhanced beyond conventional standards, and fleshed out further by a Mon Calamari-style shielding array. The latter would prove to be an incredible boon to anyone within the layered defensive barriers, as their enemies would be forced to batter their way through one layer after another in the hopes of reaching their would-be opposition.

The shielding array, which was comprised of multiple emitters situated across the external hull plating, would be further reinforced by a comprehensive point defence network. These rapid-firing swivel turrets were wholly automated by droid brains that were implanted with slave circuitry - which made them utterly compliant to the central computer system. These turrets would essentially become extensions of the Captain’s will, which in turn would seek to protect the vessel from a myriad of threats - whilst their shields bore the brunt of any aggression. Such functionality was made possible by the wholesale automation that was woven into the Warship, which in turn was overseen by an integrated and decentralized Artificial Intelligence.

While controversial to some, the automation and inclusion of an A.I. vastly reduced the need for an organic complement to be stationed aboard the vessel. Such a reduction was an indescribable boon, not only to planetary militia’s looking to flesh out their navies, but the countless Interstellar Nations across the Stars. For the requirement of trained individuals was considerably smaller, which left room for more warships to be purchased - provided the necessary credits could be made available. But, with organic upkeep costs lowered, there was potential for two to three vessels filling the slot that a single vessel or warship occupied in the long-term.

Naturally, these expenses evened out over the long term due to the constant replenishment of supplies that would be required, alongside maintenance fees and wages. While the short-term and upfront costs would peak during the purchase phase, thanks in part to the quality and quantity of integrated systems - the Nebulon-L Frigate would be worth every credit. Especially when the Warship not only upholds the legacy of it’s spiritual ancestors, that of being highly-adaptable and capable of fulfilling a myriad of roles, but seeks to excel beyond those that came before. This iteration of the Escort Frigate would become the perfect addition to a Naval battleline, not just because of it’s hardened defensive systems - but it’s offensive capabilities and supportive adaptability as well.
