Strengths:
View Enhancement: Using several different mechanisms, including full spectrum lens and roam scanning, the drones provide a wide angle view for the wielder. This gives them the ability to see in areas that would otherwise be blocked by linear sight.
Damage avoidance and defensive: Using intuitive protocols and simplistic shield systems, the drones are able to avoid most fire with evasion. Other damage can be mitigated, both for the drones and the user, through a small powered shield. In the event that damage can be perceived as above proper thresholds, the drones will combine shielding and evasion to the best of their abilities.
No weapon systems: The drones come with no capability to cause damage in anyway.
Almost entirely dependent on a HUD guidance: Without a corresponding UI or wielder, the drones will sputter about aimlessly. The software for the systems is transmitted from the interface, requiring a constant connection for successful use.
Limited/reduced shielding capacity: The shields work against single fire or limited semi-auto fire. However, they are not meant to take on vanguard level damage. Damage output at that level will fry the shielding components and will likely lead to the immediate destruction of the drone.
EMP Vulnerable: Despite it’s evasive maneuvering, a direct shot or hit from a wave of EMP will knock out the circuity and effectively destroy the drone.
The NADIR E-SERIES DRDS is another top of the line product developed for the singular purpose of combat. While there is nothing inherently ground breaking with this technology, it is the combination of somewhat traditional characteristics in a unique way, that makes this a novel concept. The DRDS, short for Defense and Reconnaissance Drone System, is an holistic approach to the skirmisher who finds themselves in tight areas - or surrounded by enemies. By integrating drone systems with armor UI or standalone viewing systems, two eyes can work as many.
The standard drone package comes with three units, a pack that is worn across the back, and a view screen that can be worn similar to a helmet or spectacles. Upon initiating the system, the drones disembark from the pack and power on micro repulsorlift engines - allowing horizontal maneuvering and vertical movement up to 300 ft from the ground. Operating on a primarily roaming protocol, the drones work to scan the abiotic and biotic environment, feeding information back into the UI. Hallways, ravines, trees, buildings - with built in avoidance programming, the drone learns its environment and provides the information back to the wielder.
Prior to use, the drones are programmed to the likeness and characteristics of the wielder. Thus, with proper training, the drones can be guided with hand gestures or voice recognition commands. Simple instructions such as “Go that way” or “come back” are followed, though more complicated commands are increasingly difficult. Using wavelength calibrated lens, the drones can provide x-ray, UV, infrared, or any other various spectrum for viewing via the UI. This viewing can also provide diagnostics for combat scenario, including weapon analysis and body language analysis - helping soldiers to determine friend or foe. This system allows for a general form of self preservation, causing the drone to inherently avoid direction of fire from other combatants.
The DRDS comes with no inherent standalone combat abilities. However, they each come with a small shield system - re-purposed from hand shields. These shields project from the top of the drone, are no larger than 1 meter across, and serve to protect both the drone and the user. These shields are limited in use, capable of sustaining single shot or semi-auto fire. Anything beyond that will deplete the engines and destroy the shielding mechanism. Once this occurs, the drone is inherently vulnerable to all forms of damage - and is perpetually susceptible to EMP, even with shielding.
When not sold with the pack, the DRDS drones come with electronic magnets across the base that can be controlled via UI. This allows use on most common armor sets, attaching to legs or arms or the back. The drones, additionally, can assist with targeting and acquisition, using technology that is commonly found in helmet tracking software. Finally, the drones can serve as recording drones, at short range, which can be transmitted through UI or across encrypted channels.
