Monsters in the Darkness (Jedi/Light Side)

The galaxy was an old place. Ancient. Everlasting, in the way Jared Starchaser saw it. The shift of power had continued as it always had, governments taken over, and lost, Force orders founded and lost to history. The galaxy had many beings in charge, many beings throwing their power around. He had heard of the High Republic, the nearly-lost-to-time organization that may have been the true heyday of the Jedi Order, through to the Galactic Empire, the Yuuzhan Vong, the First Order… Then came the current era.

Born on Corellia, a child of the Core, and raised on Csilla, he was also part of the Unknown Regions, and the Rim. As a Starchaser, that meant he was pre-destined to be helping the galaxy. His father handled the Core, but Jared himself worked along the Rim, until the jobs started to call him. He had a varied set of skills, born of the Jedi, and learning from the Judges and the Jensaarai, he was without home base short of the cruiser. And now, he was heading into the Core.

The world of Velmor had been putting out a call for help. Reaching out to whoever would listen, the world was close enough to the Silver Jedi Concord but far enough away from the protection for the Sith and Bryn’adul who were coming to raid the galaxy. The colonists, humans, were calling.

Monsters in the night, people being taken. Unexplained occurrences, and from all research Jared was finding through his father and the connection to the Order, there was a large Force presence in the area. But something about it… well, it felt off. Landing on the world, in the grasslands, he looked to the crew he had picked up, and pointed them to the rear. Weapons compartment and armory.

“So, first things first, we know this planet has suffered at the hands of the Sith and Bryn, but it seems that even though they are not here, the echoes of them are. It appears the be at the full of their local moon. And that is tonight. WE need to arm up, and prepare for what is coming.”

Something in the Force told Jared that this was going to escalate with the more Force users they had with them, but Jedi needed to know how to deal with these threats. The Light side could handle a lot, but it was not the only answer to these problems.

Checking his arms, a Force imbued blaster, and his lightsaber, Jared was ready to lead those here into the town.

The implosion of the various Sith nations in the North has created a sudden power vacuum that brigands of all stripes are rushing to fill in, exploiting the chaos of various failed states. It seems like in the wake of the Sith collapse things have just gotten busier. There's no big war anymore, but now there's countless little conflicts that need addressing.

I kind of prefer it this way, though. Total war grinds down the toughest of folks, while these relatively small operations are much more manageable. Much easier to come up with resolutions on a smaller scale. I like seeing off people with a happy ending.

That said, it looks like Velmor is going to be quite the pickle. After a distress call, we're headed to a world that was once a giant warzone between the Sith Empire and Mandalorian Union. No telling what mess we'll find once we get there.

Whatever the trouble, I was told we're going in hot. Really hot.

Good thing I always keep my Kiss close.

It was business as soon as the ship touched down, the small cadre of Jedi and soldiers quickly filing out along the ramps. Danger was afoot and they had no time to sight see.

One element of the soldiers present consisted of a five-man squad from the 228th, one of the oldest units within the Antarian Rangers. The veteran commandos quickly fanned out around the ship to establish a perimeter as others continued unloading supplies, tossing up small spherical remotes into the air for overhead surveillance. With each step, their stealth armor shifted patterns in real time as the active camouflage suite mimicked their surroundings. They were difficult to pick up, even with non-visual sensors.

Meanwhile, Finley emerged from the cargo bay, guiding along an groundspeeder from the outside. Tailing him and the vehicle was a light droid walker that had been small enough to fit on the ship.

"We have transportation and we have direct fire support," he announced to Starchaser. "No telling if it'll be enough, but at least we have a quick exit option if things get hairy."

Outside of the initial distress call they were still in the dark about the present situation on Velmor, but the young Knight had a bad feeling even before they had hit planetside. A great disturbance in the Force emanated from the planet.

"Do we have any active contacts with locals in town?"

As he grew more used to flying himself places, Audren became less comfortable with being flown. Even though he was fully aware that Starchaser was a much more capable pilot than he - heck, his autopilot was probably a better pilot - the discomfort remained. He was a Jedi however, and thus remained as outwardly calm as he'd be sitting on a resort beach. Inwardly though he was fully aware that it wasn't just the flying that made him uncomfortable. Velmor had put out a distress call about things going bump in the night and this team would be the one to answer.

Once the ship was on the ground, team members passed the Sephi the bag of equipment he'd stowed. First to be withdrawn was a belt, donned over the armor he already wore. The left side carried a holstered sidearm while the right had a clip for his lightsaber, and a glowsticks and blaster power packs could be seen among the rest of the items. A dagger was sheathed at his left boot and a carbine with a collapsible stock was slung across his back. When compared with the equipment the Rangers had brought along it was a veritable hodgepodge. It was a marked difference from many other Jedi however, who often went about with only their lightsabers. Not only that, his long hair was tightly braided and he had a hood to cover it. Moonlight glaring off the blond hair would not give away their position. A small in-ear comm unit went on last.

The Jedi blinked twice in rapid succession while others began disembarking. His vision swam momentarily as the vision enhancement lenses activated; when the time came for him to step outside the lenses immediately compensated. Normally he'd want to go on a quick walkabout, familiarize himself with the general sense of the area. No doubt the soldiers on the perimeter wouldn't appreciate that much though, so he stayed put. He crouched near one of the landing struts instead, keeping out of the way as he stretched out with his metaphysical senses. The threads that made up the weave that made up the tapestry of the area, connected to the past and future as well as the present. Like the others though, he could sense that not everything was right with it. Maybe he'd understand it if he'd spent more time learning about the Force than he had combat. Hindsight.

Whatever it was had tainted the sense of the place already. If this was just the remnant that he was picking up than the real thing should be much stronger, much more obvious. He was hoping that would actually be the case.

Some people were made for the life of the on-going wars, for the closed doors meetings, for the pomp and circumstance of the more civilized government. Then there were others who craved the freedom the rest of the galaxy, the secrets that were hidden, and the problems that only certain people could handle. That was why the team was here. There were issues with the galaxy and as a result this world, this moon, was having its fair share of them.

With the call having come out, Jared couldn’t help but make his way there. With some of the others that were arriving, Jared could only nod. He knew that it was going to come to blows, if the Sith were here and were working alongside Bryn or Vong, or whoever else that was going to be terrorizing this town, the Hunter was glad for the support.

“No active enemy contacts. Residents say they come in the night. Not like we all haven’t heard that story a thousand times before.”
He took a second to think about it. “May be best if we keep a few plain clothes in town. Without weapons and the Force.”

Jared wasn’t quite sure it was raiders in the traditional sense. There was something more here…
