OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To create an assault boarding pod for the Mandalorian Enclave.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Boarding Pod: The Ra'gr is designed exclusively to punch through the shields and hulls of enemy ships to deliver Mandalorian warriors into combat safely. With enhanced defensive systems, advanced tracking systems and state of the art propulsion, it excels at this.
  • Rapid Deployment: The front-opening hatch allows for rapid deployment of soldiers once a hull is penetrated, adding to the shock value of boarding a starship.
  • Atmospheric Insertion: The Ra'gr can be multi-purposed to rapidly deploy soldiers into a warzone from orbit, much like a dropship but at a much more rapid velocity and without the ability to return to the ship.
WEAKNESSES
  • No Armament: The Ra'gr has no conventional armament and is unable to participate in any sort of conventional fighter warfare.
  • One Way Trip: Once a Ra'gr is fired and successfully entrenches itself in a ship's hull or into a planet's atmosphere, it isn't coming back.
  • Lack of Hyperdrive: Without a hyperdrive, the Ra'gr is incapable of interstellar travel and is dependent on other ships for hyperspace travel.
DESCRIPTION
The best Mandalorian naval tactics are always the unconventional ones.

When engaged in naval warfare, troop-to-troop combat is often overlooked, an afterthought behind the dazzling displays of firepower that modern capital ships can achieve. Conventional naval doctrine utilizes ships to transport soldiers to and from planetary battlefields, while they duke it out with the enemy using turbolasers, missiles, and ion systems. Security forces aboard most vessels are present to protect from sabotage but are rarely a fully-competent military force. The MNV-AV12 Ra'gr Assault Boarding Pod is created to exploit this.

Enclave naval doctrine has always emphasized rapid, hard-hitting engagements, shying away from prolonged slugfests. But what if a ship's offensive systems were rendered completely obsolete? That is what the Ra'gr is able to do. By delivering hardened (and very lethal) Mandalorian warriors to the interior of a ship, said ship cannot fire on itself. By forcing a ship's crew to fend off intrusion, it severely limits the fighting capability of that ship, making it easier for Mandalorian warships to penetrate defenses. And it gives Mandalorian warriors an opportunity to commandeer that ship for various purposes.

The boarding pod can hold sixteen standard-sized Mandalorian warriors, and an additional pilot (which is optional). Methods for the deployment of the boarding pod vary but are usually shot through an accelerate-canon that rapidly accelerates the velocity of the boarding pod to 'cruising' speed. This velocity can be achieved by onboard flight systems but is not as rapid. A pilot is optional and is usually not included when engaging in ship-to-ship boarding, but are more common when the boarding pod is used for atmospheric insertions where a pilot is required to maneuver the craft so it doesn't impact face-first into terrain. This does not mean that the boarding pod cannot survive bow-first impact, as its highly advanced inertial dampers render any kinetic impact as no more than a slight jolt, but bow-first plowing into a planetary surface renders the primary deployment hatch unusable. In the case that this happens, though, the side hatches of the boarding pod are expelled to deploy warriors in a similar manner.

Altogether, the Ra'gr is a very potent weapon when put into Mandalorian hands, and any navy that encounters these pods full of berzerkers is in for a nasty surprise.

Hello!

Nice submission! As always very inventive. That said, there are a few issues that will require attention prior to approval.

Technical Specifications:
  • Major one here. You are 3 points overpowered with this submission. Please adjust accordingly.
Standard Features:
  • Interface Systems: The Auto-tracking Fire Controller is not needed in this submission, as you do not have any weapons to use. What is its purpose?
Advanced Systems:
  • Similar question to the above for the RM-TAR8 Astraea Integrated Targeting Package. Since you have no weapons, what is its purpose?

Just checking in. I haven't seen any update.

The ratings have been balanced. As for the targeting systems, my reasoning behind their inclusion is to better aim the ship at a target, given the ship itself could be considered a 'weapon.' Is that reasoning sound?

Ratings look good, thank you.

Regarding the tracking modules, that also makes sense to a point. The only issue I have which remains is specifically with the inclusion of the 'The Auto-tracking Fire Controller', as according to the wiki page, it is specifically listed as a supplement to quad laser cannons to automate firing functions. Please remove this, as even under the understanding that the pod itself is a weapon, there is no realistic way in which this component adds to that. I could see this being added to a ship containing quad turbolasers, or even launchers for this pod. But not the pod itself.

The inclusion of the 'RM-TAR8 Astraea Integrated Targeting Package' makes sense though, so that's fine. However, I would ask that you list this under the strengths, as this would add to making this sub a very potent one indeed.

Please tag me when these final issues are addressed. Thank you!
