DESCRIPTION
It all began with the Virago. In the Era of our collective history when the might of the Galactic Empire was at its zenith, the Criminal Underworld was on the rise. Amongst the many Criminal Masterminds that arose during this period of time, there was one that stood above the rest. Prince Xizor, a Falleen from the Noble House of Sizhran. It was noted that this man was the undisputed master of the Black Sun during this time period, and was considered to be one of the wealthiest and influential beings in the known universe. Through his connections and credit-greased palms, Xizor managed to work alongside MandalMotors to exclusively produce a line of Starfighters. It isn’t known why Xizor had chosen the Mandalorian corporation, but many assumed it was because of the excellence in their designs.

Nevertheless, the Virago became the first of the nascent line of StarViper-Class Attack Platforms that were eventually produced throughout history. While many mocked the overall design scheme for it’s overly large forward and rear attack profile - those deriding voices were soon silenced when the Starfighter showcased its unmatched maneuverability in the aetheric void. With highly adjustable wing modules and thrust nacelles, the Virago was capable of incredible feats of reorientation during flight. It was capable of performing sharp turns with relative ease and was able to spin about with such alacrity whilst remaining still. As a matter of fact, many of the ancient MandalMotors design team believed that the Virago would become the premiere Starfighter of their age.

With its unmatched capability for variable geometric warfare and mastery of spatial mobility, the Virago and its subsequent successors would forevermore make their mark on history. Sadly, that dream was waylaid for several years, as the Prince of the Black Sun had exclusively bought the production rights to the StarViper - ensuring that none other than Xizor would have such a potent weapon. As it turned out, MandalMotors kept tinkering with the design in secret, and as soon as Prince Xizor was dead - the Company began selling a marginally inferior version of the Virago on the open market. Citing that their design was wholly Mandalorian in origin and that it embodied the very approach that ancient Warrior Culture took when concerning spatial warfare.

Thus, it was only natural that the StarViper found itself reborn within the ranks of the reformed Death Watch, and their Crusade.

Unlike the inferior models of the past, the Mark IV was comparable to the Virago - but fleshed out with a veritable host of modern technological advancements. Much of the original intent and design remained, as they were the foundations of the Starfighter. It’s overly large attack profile, with highly modular flight assembly and maneuverable thrust nacelles were some of the few implementations that were the mainstay of the entire attack craft. What made the Virago stand out from its spiritual successors, was that the targeting arrays and sensor systems weren’t built around the weapon systems. Instead, it seemed like the opposite was done, which would allow for a whole host of weapons to be swapped out - and their performance wouldn’t suffer due to incompatible hardware and software.

So, the Mandalorian Warsmith’s elected to follow in the steps of their ancestors and gave the Mark IV a pair of modular armatures that were built around a variable targeting and sensor assembly that was compatible with a wide variety of weapon systems. In many respects, the newest StarViper Starfighter now had a “plug-and-play” weapons array, which could be adapted to fit whatever loadout or mission profile that a Pilot could dream up. Almost all, except for Stealth operations - as that would require an extensive overhaul and refit. With such adaptability, maneuverability, and lethality weaved into a single spaceframe - it was a wonder why the many Criminal Enterprises across the Stars had taken a liking to this venerable, and iconic design.
