- All Mindharps can be played by telepathically communing with the instrument - some may be played normally simultaneously. The melodies Mindharps produce are at their best displays of unearthly beauty that carry with them profound emotion or even idealised concepts, such as 'true love', 'the possibility of a utopian society through cooperation and understanding', and 'the fear of death and what follows'.
- Soulsong Mindharps host a simplistic 'spiritual construct' akin to the 'soul' or Essence of a sentient being. While typically incapable of vocal communication, it possesses an intrinsic clarity of mind that can be shared with the user, aiding them as they play the Mindharp - and even enhancing the quality and stability of the emotions/ideas associated with the telepathic melody. It may even bond with users.
- The telepathic melody produced by a Mindharp is perceived by the mind, not heard - as such, (most) droids and the Force Dead cannot hear or otherwise experience it. While often associated with sound, Mindharps can produce images (à la holograms) or nothing but the 'melody'.
- Song of the Mind: The songs and melodies produced by Mindharps are accompanied by the feelings and ideas musicians pour into them.
- Song of the Soul: Soulsong Mindharps have a soul-of-sorts of their own; they both help the musician and enhance the melodies.
- Tool of Learning: Playing a Mindharp requires clarity of will and intent - it is an excellent tool for honing telepathy.
- Clarity of Mind: The true heights of a Mindharp's potential can only be reached through skilful telepathy and practice aplenty; even then, one must prevent disruptive thoughts from interfering with the intricate harmony being woven - even slight doubt can be jarring to 'hear'.
- Gentle Song: Mindharps are tools of cooperation, not subjugation - their most profound effects are on the willing.

Mindharps are unique (it is rare indeed for any two to be exactly alike), unconventional 'instruments' that can normally only be 'played' by the Force Sensitive or innately telepathic. Exceptions may apply, especially for highly dedicated individuals and doubly so if they use a Soulsong Mindharp.
Their inner workings vary somewhat, but all use carefully carved shards of Astracite to reflect, enhance, and harmonise telepathic impressions. This is often perceived as a melody of sorts by the affected, especially if accompanied by conventional music. Mindharps could conceivably be used with hostile or malicious intent, but they generally do a poor job influencing those who directly resist their influence, especially if they are Force Sensitive.
Only after he finished and named his most recent project was the Shadow made aware of the ancient artefact of the same name.
