OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Naturally occurring on Lorinia.
  • Affiliation: Greystone Mercantile
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
    • Open-Market at Unique/Semi-Unique.
  • Model: Lorinian Astracite
  • Modularity: Significant.
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Minerals.
PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Crystal | Various Alloys.
  • Weight: Light (Standard; Alloys may vary.)
  • Colour: Normally Blue (Astracite) | Silvery (Starmetal)
  • Resistances: Variable; unalloyed Astracite is decently resilient.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Astracite can be alloyed with a variety of materials to achieve specific effects. The most notable are listed below.
    • Starmetal is the single most common alloy in use; Songsteel and Cortosis are the main components. As light as it is resilient, Starmetal is often used in the creation of Force-imbued Blades and the like. That said, pure Astracite naturally has a stronger link to the Force.
    • Voidmetal is an exotic alloy created from otherworldly matter and trace amounts of Astracite. This strange alloy seems able to block or distort most Force Users' ability to sense it and anything it covers, but loses most or all of its Force-bolstering capabilities as a result.
  • Astracite lacks any sort of intellect and does not necessarily 'bond' to any one individual, unlike many lightsaber crystals. It can, however, be 'marked' or altered in various ways by powerful emotion, infusions of power, alchemic practices, or simply careful gemcutting.
  • Unrefined Astracite has been known to exhibit gravity-defying properties. It can be used in prohibitively expensive alternatives to conventional repulsorlifts that might be resistant to anti-repulsor technologies, depending on which part of the repulsor they are designed to affect.
    • Large quantities of unrefined Astracite has been known to massively bolster Force Abilities at the expense of their reliability.
  • Astracite can be used as a lightsaber, where it is defined by its versatility; the crystal itself cannot 'bond' normally, however.
    • Unrefined Astracite produces a strong blade with a 'weight' that can be altered by the wielder. It is prone to short-circuiting.
    • Refined Astracite produces a stable, highly reliable blade and bolsters the user's Force Abilities much like a Qixoni crystal.
    • Twinned Kyber, created by alchemically infusing Astracite into Kyber crystal, produces an unusually powerful blade capable of bonding normally at the expense of some instability. These crystals have an unfortunate habit of betraying users to those that defeat them.
    • Aetherstones are Astracite crystals exposed to the depths of the Netherworld of the Force for an extended period of time. They produce a shimmering blade that bolsters the Force like Refined Astracite while also being capable of harming spirits. It is slightly less stable.
    • Voidgems are experimental lightsaber crystals created by infusing Astracite with trace amounts of otherworldly matter. The blades they produce are neither unusually strong nor particularly stable but are uncomfortable or even painful to look at, especially with the Force. Their little-understood effects do not function against droids and the Force Dead, and only partially affect beings with cybernetic eyes.
    • Heartstones are imbued with a specific emotion or mental state - often courage or clarity - and either help the user reach it or inflict it (helpfully such as with 'hope' or detrimentally such as with 'fear') on others. The blade it produces is itself nothing extraordinary.
    • Kezite, named after the most adorable creature in the galaxy, produces an incredibly sparkly blade - those inexperienced with tricks of that nature, especially if they are weak of will, are likely to find themselves unable to focus on anything but its splendour.
STRENGTHS
  • Forceful: Astracite is 'Force-Reactive', augmenting Force Use that involves it and making it an excellent candidate for Force Imbuement.
  • Versatile: Astracite can be alloyed with other materials for various purposes; the less Astracite, the weaker its reactiveness.
WEAKNESSES
  • Anathema: Astracite is weakened by the mere presence of Void Stone; direct contact is liable to have undesirable results.
  • Unrestrained: Astracite bolsters all nearby Force activity, friend and foe alike, unless refined in some way.
    • Such refinement usually come at the expense of potency, versatility, or both.
DESCRIPTION
The Force pervades all known space and is said to nurture all life. Its manifestations are legion, from Force Sensitives to Kyber crystals and a great many lesser-known phenomena. One of these is Astracite, an exotic crystal unique to Lorinia and the nebula that surrounds it.

As a result of its Force-reactive nature, unrefined Astracite bolsters nearby Force Use while the refined crystal is well-suited as a focus or a medium for Force Imbuement. Combining unrefined Astracite with other magnifying factors generally wields diminishing results - while useful, it cannot match the raw power of a potent nexus nor the remarkable Force Sensitivity of truly exceptionable individuals.

The exact origins of the crystal are unknown. Sources have been found in ruins on Lorinia, on the surface (the few hovering deposits in existence, see the art, were quickly mined out), and in the occasional asteroid drifting through the nebula that surrounds the resort world.
