OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Mekhisian Hawk-Bat
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Origins: Nar Shaddaa
  • Average Lifespan: 25 Galactic Standard Years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: A horrific mutation of the hawk-bat found on many urbanized worlds brought about by the Gitaxias Nanospore. The spiky growths that covered the hawk-bat's wings and tail have become tendrils tipped with optical sensors while their bodies and wing membranes have been converted to metal and the same material as a solar-sail.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Due to their metallic/cybernetic nature, they do not require an atmosphere to survive.
  • Average Height of Adults: 1 meter
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Silvery-blue with the membranes of their wings a black color close to obsidian or jet
  • Hair color: No hair
  • Distinctions: The most distinctive physical trait of the altered hawk-bat are the numerous tendrils that have sprouted from their original spines, along with their entire bodies becoming metal. The organs of the creature glow beneath the semi-translucent skin with an eerie blue glow, unsettling passersby within the undercity that have caught sight of these creatures.
  • Races: No other races
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • The visual abilities of the hawk-bat were enhanced by the mutations caused by the nanospore, with the various optical tendrils that emerge from its body sharing the hawk-bats innate ability to look through ultraviolet and infrared spectrums, along with giving the creature a 360-degree visual range. A cybernetic organ that developed within the creature's tail essentially acts as a link with a helmet or security system to allow a user to look through the creature's optical sensors like a security camera. A mechu-deru Force user can also tap into this system to look through the sensors of the creature.
  • The hawk-bat's teeth and claws have become more serrated for easier means of ripping into prey or enemies they encounter, and they drip droplets of oily ichor that contain the mutagenic nanospore to possibly infect those they wound and attack.
  • The membranes that form the creature's wings are made of the same material as a solar sail, allowing them to use solar radiation to increase their flight speeds in short bursts.
Weaknesses:
  • While their bodies have become a metallic resin with some resistance to damage, their thin armor and membranes are still susceptible to small arms fire and melee weaponry and can easily be pierced, destroying the creatures. If the membrane of the hawk-bat is damaged, it cannot fly until the damage is repaired through the ingestion and transformation of matter to fix the wounds.
  • A mechu-deru Force user can use their ability to either hijack the creature's optical feed, essentially hacking the camera they act as, or disable it and render the creatures completely blind for several minutes.
  • Extreme applications of heat such as from plasma or a flamethrower will outright destroy the creature as they have very little resistance to the heat and little armoring to absorb the damage.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Due to their metallic/cybernetic nature, the hawk-bat does not require sustenance to function. However, it will still follow its previous carnivore predilections, but any meat consumed in this way is altered into more of the mutagen coursing through its body.
  • Communication: Metallic-sounding shrieks and chirps, and can understand commands given through the Sith language or through mechu-deru or a electronic signal.
  • Technology level: No technology level
  • Religion/Beliefs: No religion or belief system
  • General behavior:
    • The transformed hawk-bats still retain their tendency to flock together from their original forms, along with their tendency to lurk in higher places and corners looking for prey or trespassers wandering into their masters' territory. If a trespasser is detected by one of the hawk-bats, it alerts its nearby companions to attack the unlucky being or creature, or if commanded by their mechu-deru using master, to shadow them and keep them within visual range at all times while remaining hidden themselves. This use and behavior have resulted in the release of more of these creatures into the Nar Shaddaa Undercity than others created from Project Mekhis to act as a wide-ranging security and first alert system for the alchemists and the Order of Arcane Syn facility located in the undercity.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

As part of the initial wave of experiments from Project Mekhis, the alchemists at the facility on Nar Shaddaa began capturing some of the immigrated hawk-bats that could be found on many urbanized worlds and subjecting the creatures to the Gitaxias Nanospore. Unlike with the laigrek specimens, the Cybergene alchemists directed the nanospore mutations with a closer hand, shaping their progress to suit the needs of Hyson Whita and the facility in general. The capabilities of the hawk-bats were well-known, especially their abilities to locate camouflaged prey, and it was this ability that interested the alchemists.

The spiny growths on the body of the creatures were lengthened, becoming long cable-like tendrils tipped with an optical sensor on each one that could see into the normal visual range and even into the ultraviolet and infrared spectrums. A cybernetic organ was created within the tail that would act as a sensor link with a HUD or security system so that mundane forces could use the transformed creatures as 360-degree security cameras, while their flight membranes were altered to the same material as a solar sail to collect energy that could be used for short bursts of speed while in flight.

The alchemists at the facility then released several specimens into the local undercity, creating a much wider and obscure security perimeter for the facility in general. A few locals began wondering where these strange metallic bats had come from, as they were unsettling to look at with their blue glow and droplets of oil clinging to claws, little knowing that they were acting as eyes for a hidden Sith facility on the moon.
