STRENGTHS
- Carrier: The Martan can carry a large amount of starfighters, making it a useful support craft, especially in smaller engagements. Twp repair drone launchers allow the carrier to provide logistical support to its vast array of fighters even in chaotic and scattered battles.
- Command and Control: Much like the classic Nebulon-B Frigate, the Martan has unusually powerful sensors and communications systems for a vessel its size, allowing it to effectively detect targets from a long range and coordinate its starfighter complement in battle to effectively engage enemies. These systems also allow the Martan to act as a miniature flagship for smaller forces.
- Low Firepower: The Martan has very light weapons for its size, and even the aging and smaller Corellian Corvette outguns this vessel.
- Poor Maneuverability: Just as much as it looks, the Martan is not exactly a high performance vessel, and many ships its size can outmaneuver it.
The Martan-series Carrier Corvette is one of CorelliSpace's first forays into making its own dedicated warship design from scratch. Yet it undeniably builds off a great deal of the company's experience from bulk freighters as shown in its boxy and undecidedly unwarlike lines. Yet its unaesthetic exterior hides a fairly competent but spartan interior. Most of the Martan's interior is a massive four story hangar, with each floor holding a single squadron of starfighters, support personnel, and support systems. Most of the ship is designed around this hangar structure, growing off it in boxy and sometimes curved extensions to hold things like the bridge, engine block, and communications systems. In order to make the fullest use of its starfighter complement, the Martan has unusually powerful sensors and communications systems, allowing the ship's flight control staff to accurately guide and coordinate the actions of the carrier's dozens of starfighters. Despite its fugly appearance, the Martan is a market success for CorelliSpace due to its low cost and effectiveness, traits which have endeared the carrier both to planetary defense forces and corporate security groups, as well as their numbers on the opposite side: pirates and "freedom fighters".
