Make Capital Planets Matter!

I start this suggestion by asking: Do Capital planets really matter?

A lot of us watched the One Sith dismantle the Galactic Republic, and over the course of that war the answer was a resounding "no." A loss would occur, the capital would be moved.

So, outside of a few terms in the current ruleset, Capital planets don't really feel...well...Capital. It doesn't sting worse to lose a Capital planet than it does any other, so I propose we make Capitals matter. We make them the literal heart of a faction: remove it and it's dead.

After losing a total of four Invasions to another Major Faction within the same year, losing a fifth, Capital invasion will demote the faction to Minor status.

Right now there's no true way to defeat an enemy faction. One cannot invade as fast as the defender can dominion. (*insert Alliance joke here*) However, this suggestion will provide value to capital planets. It will put a finite goal for warring factions so that the famous invasion fatigue doesn't murder muses as far as the eye can see.

Because above all else, when the muses die, Chaos suffers. Thoughts?

Yes; Please.

Let's make it so that Major factions don't have to consent to having all of their hard work revoked, so that the superpower majors can stomp on the smaller powers who can't dominion nor invade as fast as their adversary. Let's have it so that all that matters now is constantly winning PVP, story? Pshhh.

I say we wait until what ever happens with dominions and rebellions is laid out and possibly implemented before jumping the gun with Invasions. I already believe that capitals don't have to matter on the map game because they matter as part of the story, and forcing them to as such is asinine and could further harm the endangered Major Faction numbers.

That makes no sense. Take the capital and the Factions can regroup on one of their other planets, and take it back later.

Capitals aren't vital as such, and it simply wouldn't happen that way. Take Washington DC, and the United States would still exist.

I don't think you're wrong to want some consequence attached to it, but that particular choice just wouldn't work.

I like the concept of consequences for a capital's loss. I'm betting there are other, simple ways to approach that goal.

  • Lose the capital, automatically lose its entire hex.
  • Lose the capital, lose some or all of your ally capacity in the next invasion between you and the faction that took your capital.
  • Lose the capital, and the other guys can automatically produce or reverse-engineer or otherwise use any of your faction tech, on the assumption that they captured examples or blueprints.

Summed up my thoughts perfectly.

I know that jumping into the map game comes with risks and consequences, it's part of the gamble that comes with playing the game but coming from a Faction that's trying to separate themselves from the war-machine that is the norm' on Chaos, while still enjoying the run of being Major, to see all that undone by another faction double our size and member-base would pretty effectively kill the incentive to bother trying to work it all up again. Losing planets or a hex at a time is one thing, you can recover with effort and pick up where you left off, it can be great for story-telling and what not but to be removed of your major status off of the whim of a larger faction because they've been around longer and thought "well they look easy...", yeah no, thank you.

Not to mention, map updates for capital planets.

TL;DR: Commenor is Commenor :p

The invasion fatigue would still happen if this was implimented. As others have said, it would give others incentive to wipe other factions off the map because they are far smaller and easy targets. So in a manner of five consecutive months (provided the writers last that long), you'd have factions removed. People would avoid going major until they had a huge active member base to try to stop that from happening.

As far as Capital planets are concerned, they are as important as the faction writers make them out to be. My own is very important and we've all set things in motion and put in the effort to make it that way.

But not everyone is the same and I don't expect them to be. Such a change wouldn't be for the best, I think.
