SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Mimic - In many ways, a proficient user of Ee mental powers and their derivatives mimic the Force, to the point where a master might be able to fool a Force-sensitive into thinking that their powers are a manifestation of the Force, through any number of methods. Naturally, non-Force-sensitive individuals are far easier to fool in this regard.
  • The Old Tricks - In being effectively independent from the Force, Ee mental powers and their derivatives are not susceptible to the effects of Void Stone, ysalamiri, or other Force-dampening technologies and powers. However, a notable exception exists for Force suppression, where a Force-sensitive might harness the Force to convince the user that they have been cut off from their non-Force-based mental powers, instead of being cut off from the Force.
WEAKNESSES
  • Studying for a Master’s Degree - The Mindbender Implant only makes the user capable of using Ee mental powers and derivative non-Force-based mental powers. It confers no inherent knowledge, skill, strength, or talent in these abilities. The user must learn and develop these on their own. Naturally, this can be extremely difficult and reaching a level of proficiency where the user's powers have a practical function can take many years. Achieving mastery can be to the order of decades. As such, while the implant can be produced in volume, one will never find armies of soldiers capable of wielding these powers.
  • Hacking - While the implant has modest cybersecurity measures, focused slicing attempts could very easily overcome its defenses, due the almost-pathetic amount of processing power and resources the implant can bring to bear given its size.
  • Hardware Overload - The FAE/pI-01 is an excellent implant for beginner and intermediate non-Force-based mentalists (individuals equivalent to Padawans and Knights in skill level). Unfortunately, the implant is unable to retain integrity when harnessed by a master (equivalent to a Force Master in skill level), given potency of the psychic energy channeled through it, especially when the master is manifesting a particularly advanced or demanding exertion of psychic power. Unfortunately, more powerful users are often compelled to install the more advanced, robust model of the implant.
  • Mechanical Mutation - Like any piece of advanced technology, the implant is quite vulnerable to malicious influence from a skilled practitioner of Mechu-deru.
  • Surged - EMP and Ion discharges with a large enough power quotient and a close enough proximity can overload the implant’s systems, rendering it disabled for some time or worse, permanently, requiring that the user have the old one taken out to have a replacement installed. Unfortunately, this requires brain surgery, which can not be performed under typical battlefield conditions.
DESCRIPTION
Designed by First United Astral Engineering, the FAE/pI-01 Mindbender Implant was conceived after studies of the Ee and the Kalduu led to speculation as to whether their mental powers could possibly be harnessed by others, specifically non-Ee and Kalduu individuals. To this end, First United Astral Engineering began work on a neural implant to enable such a possibility. Studying samples of Ee and Kalduu brain tissue, the researchers took cues from the neurobiology of both species in designing the implant. From this, they developed an implant tuned to mimic certain processes which allow these species to harness their power. Before long, the design was finalized and began trials to test its viability.

Ultimately, the FAE/pI-01 Mindbender Implant is hoped to represent a landmark in allowing non-Force-sensitive individuals to counter the dominant influence of Force-users on the modern battlefields of the Chaos era and possibly, open a new, relatively-unexplored frontier of power.
