Devastare Incarnare
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Maddox Cause's disillusionment began after his promotion to Knight. He was routinely assigned to obscure Outer Rim missions that were deemed strategically irrelevant to the Alliance. Time and again, he was pulled away before he could make a meaningful impact, his efforts cut short by bureaucracy and the shifting winds of larger wars. The repetition wore on him. Then came open conflict, a war the Jedi were clearly losing, not from lack of strength, but from their rigidity. Maddox saw it. Felt it. But as a young Knight, he held his tongue and followed orders.
Years later, he earned the rank of Jedi Master, proving himself not only a formidable duelist, but a contemplative philosopher with a natural gift for teaching. His insights into the Living Force were unorthodox, but deeply considered. It was during this time that he was partnered with Aroma Laan, a Togruta Knight undergoing evaluation for promotion. She was, in Maddox's eyes, the embodiment of what the Jedi should be. Calm, wise, centered. He often tested his theories against her, as a way to quietly wrestle with his own. Over time, his feelings toward her deepened into something more than professional admiration. But with war raging across the stars, he chose not to act on those feelings. Duty, as ever, won out.
A year later, his disillusionment crystallized into action.
He approached the Jedi Council with a proposal: that basic principles of Vaapad be taught to select Padawans, especially those who struggled with emotional repression and outbursts. Not as a weapon, but as a release valve. A way to channel what could not be silenced. The Council rejected the idea outright. Soon after, Maddox's own Padawan fell to the dark side. In the confrontation that followed, Maddox was forced to tap into the dark side himself to stop his student. For Maddox, it was confirmation of everything he already feared: the Order would rather uphold its brittle doctrine than adapt to a changing galaxy. So he walked away.
During his Exile, he met Aroma Laan once more, on accident. They had both been acquainted with a young couple. A Jedi Master and a Sith Alchemist who'd ran away together. months passed and Maddox learned they had a baby, and were killed soon after. Maddox and Aroma saved the young boys life, then took him to questal. Renaming the child Kain.
Years passed before he was contacted again by Aroma Laan, this time asking for help with a volatile but promising young Padawan Kain Aldore. Somehow the young man had still ended up in with the Jedi. Maddox met the boy and saw a storm barely held together. He taught Kain not to fear his emotions, but to accept them. To feel, without losing control. Maddox introduced him to the foundation of Vaapad, and helped him understand that tinkering, his obsession with machines, was meditation, just not in the traditional sense.
For a brief time, Kain and Aroma almost convinced Maddox to return to the Order. To believe that things could still change. But not a year later, Aroma Laan was dead. Kain had left the Jedi. And Maddox knew he'd been right all along. He remains in the shadows now. A swordsman with no allegiance, a teacher to those who walk the edge, and a philosopher who saw what the Order could've been… if it had dared to evolve.

- Age: 58
- Force Sensitivity: Master.
- Species: Human.
- Appearance: Maddox Cause looks like a man carved from frontier hardship. Grizzled and lean. He has shoulder-length black hair, streaked with silver at the temples, and a scar splitting his right eyebrow. His eyes are hard steel gray, always watching, always calculating. A scruffy, unkempt beard shadows a face that's seen too much betrayal and too little peace. And wears old, war-torn robes pieced together from scavenged Jedi and Sith garb. leather, cloth, and armor plating arranged more for survival than symbolism.
- Name: Maddox Cause.
- Loyalties: Only himself and Kain Aldore
- Wealth: On the poorer side. Works odd jobs to stay fed, and keep his ship fueled.
- Notable Possessions: Lightsaber, Modified U-wing for a live in ship. Holocron depicting Vaapad forms.
- Skills: Master of form VII and form II. Practiced in both light and dark side force techniques, but only the very basic. More philosopher than constant practitioner.
- Languages: Basic and Huttese.
- Personality: Maddox is a pragmatist. He speaks in truths, even when they hurt, and sees no value in comfort. Though jaded, he is not cruel. He still believes in strength tempered by understanding, but will discard idealism in favor of what works. His mentorship is harsh but honest. He doesn't break people; he lets them see themselves. If they shatter, they weren't ready. Despite his rough exterior, he respects loyalty and conviction, and still carries pain over those he couldn't save. He just doesn't show it.
- Weapon of Choice: Lightsaber first. Then the force.
- Combat Function: Maddox is the duelist to Kains rather mediocre saber skills, while Kain can hold his own, of the two were caught up in a fight, Kain would let Maddox handle the duel, and he would instead run interference with the force.
- Force Abilities: Tutaminis – Exceptionally skilled at absorbing and redirecting energy. Force Precognition – Battle-based; honed instinct for danger. Curato Salva – Self-healing and life-preserving meditation. Force Suppression – Can mute the powers of untrained sensitives or disrupt weaker Force links. Force Lightning- Minor low powered bursts, for shock value or interrogation. Nothing like a trained Sith's.
- Master duelist. Trained in Vaapad and Makashi.
- Emotional discipline- Maintains control under pressure, and passed that steadiness to Kain through his mentorship.
- Wears his scars- This is an old man. While he is a master duelist in practice, in a duel he doubts he'd be much help. Physically and emotionally worn down: years of hardship and combat have left him with lingering chronic pain, and injuries that never healed right.
- No Allegiance- Maddox fights for one thing. People who cant defend themselves. This makes him isolated, and alienated as he refused to join the Sith, or go back to the Jedi.
