Private Location: Tiaza's Purr, Time unknown. RED-1 meets crew

The droid listened to Roark for a moment, then looked around the room. RED started to realize that his memory was foggy from being on standby for so long. From what it could gather from the crates and their labels in the room, he had been in the shipping crate for 25 years, maybe more. People have always wondered why droids seem a little taken aback every time they wake up from standby. Other species were no different. Suddenly, 25 years go missing in a lifetime; they are a little confused, too.

RED looked up and tilted its head back and forth as if to stretch its neck. The droid felt Meri step closer to it. RED thought that was interesting. The droid heard Meri address it and turned its head slightly back, listening.

She also did not think this was a test. RED realized this was a significant misunderstanding. It was a new ship and a new crew. With Meri's quiet, soft voice, she put RED at ease. Given that she admitted she knew little about ships and crews, RED wanted to ensure she was protected.

"Do not worry, Master Meri, I think I have a better picture of what is happening here now." said RED quietly to Meri. The droid turned on its recorder for recording and started a file for this ship and crew. Cataloging everything.

RED sensed Meri stapling back some. RED glanced back at Mer. "You can stay near if you wish. Your heart rate is rising, and you are showing signs of anxiety. I am here to help you if you need it." said RED-1, its tone calm and relaxed.

Red-1 looked at the others. "I am RED-1. I am a medical rescue droid here to assist anyone who may need help. I can also repair ships and droids if required. I am a qualified surgeon with Ship Engineering knowledge, with some background in droid repair. I can fix anything you may need help with," revealed RED-1 in a polite tone. Its mannerisms almost seem human down to the inflection in its voice, not monotone like other droids.

Just when I thought that things could not get more confusing; it did. Was I in the wrong place? Was the message sent to me by mistake?

I stood there quietly as the Captain came in. He clearly had just risen from bed; although he had tried his hardest to convince us otherwise. However he was not fooling anyone. Still, I did not try to embarrass the young man further. Instead I remained silent, with both of my cases on the floor on either side of me. I am well used to my voice not being heard amongst groups of people larger than three individuals. And so I save my breath.

Sometimes it is far better to observe, than to engage.

Meri hadn't meant to become the center of anyone's attention, but RED-1's calm voice, directed at her, made several eyes shift in her direction. Her breath tightened again, small and sharp, but she managed a tiny nod up at the droid.

"It's… okay," she murmured, though the tremor in her voice made the reassurance unconvincing. "I'm… I'm trying."

She didn't step away from RED—if anything, she stayed exactly where she was, close enough that the droid's presence acted like a buffer against the shifting, overlapping personalities gathering in the bay. Every unfamiliar face made her shoulders inch higher, but RED's steady tone helped her keep her feet planted instead of backing toward the nearest exit.

When RED mentioned her heart rate, her cheeks warmed with embarrassment. She lowered her gaze quickly, hair slipping forward like a shield.

"I didn't mean to… worry anyone," she whispered. "I just—crowds are hard."

The introduction that followed—a medical rescue droid, a ship engineer, a surgeon—made her blink in quiet awe. He wasn't just a protector; he was many things. Useful things. Important things.

"I'm glad you're here," she said softly, sincere despite the shake in her words. "Thank you. For…paying attention."

She didn't raise her voice enough for the others to hear; the words were meant for RED alone. He seemed like the only one in the room she knew how to talk to right now.

Her fingers curled lightly around her notebook again, grounding herself. She stayed small, quiet, observant—the way she always did when too many people stood too close. She didn't interrupt the captains, the co-pilot, the Jedi, the others who seemed to belong to rooms like this far more comfortably than she ever could.

She just stayed near the droid who had offered her steadiness, letting the others speak while she listened, heart still quick but breath beginning—slowly—to even out.

The chaos around the cargo hold surprisingly did little to bring Brinna out of her sleep. She was resentful of the fact that she was dragged out of her dream to investigate the new arrivals. She absently rubbed the side of her head, disheveled hair getting bunched in her fingers. Her eyes moved back and forth as explanations of who was who and which ones belonged as part of a crew or just as a temporary addition. Then there was the droid, whose situation was too confusing for a sleepy Brinna to decipher.

Brinna sighed, when Sorr's arrival did nothing to put the conversations on track. Wanting to get back to sleep as soon as possible, she stumbled over to the control panel and hit the call button for her Ai assistant M.O.M., who appeared out of nowhere.
"Ah. Since there is no fighting or shooting I assume that everyone here is welcomed," the Ai spoke in a tone that made her maternal acronym seem quite accurate. "Captain Kortu, if you would keep me up to date I would have easily been able to sort things out here and let you sleep. I know you have concerns with me having too much access to your ship, but surely crew, passenger and cargo data is not something that threatens your security…right?"

Brinna smirked as M.O.M. took on her usual nagging of Sorr. The Captain had some misguided fear of M.O.M. developing some strange personality and taking the ship over by force and locking Sorr out. Brinna had reprogrammed M.O.M. herself and did regular checks to make sure that the Ai was not influenced by an unwanted outside force. Brinna encouraged "organic growth" for M.O.M., but she wasn't stupid enough to ignore the possibility that someone would use the Ai assistant to burrow into the ship's systems and worse Brinna's personal files. "If we're all awake now should we make something to eat? It seems all of you belong so no terrible defensive measures and ass kicking will be required. But that doesn't mean I'm ready to get all chummy before a meal and some caf…"

"Seems it is my turn to introduce myself," Roark mused, "Roark Garnett, entrepreneur, fast-talker, fast shooter when necessary and yes, I got a job offer from the Captain so I think I belong here and I´m not trespassing."

An interesting crew Sorr Kortu had assembled here: droid, Jedi, pilot, a scientist and a ... well a young lady scared to death apparently by whatever but still around.

Now interesting times were coming but he had seen much worse.

"Anyone got an idea what we are up to?"

Sorr Kortu

Socially Awkward Smuggler

What a wonderful introduction Sorr made to the new crewmates. As expected, they were assortment of men and women from all walks of life either seeking fame, adventure, or just want to run away from their past. Whatever the reason, Sorr was happy to see the Tiaza's Purr filled with more crewmen. It's a shame that they their first look at their Captain was in his longjohns.

"My stupid alarm did not wake me up!" Sorr laughed nervously. "Looks like M.O.M our AI forgot to set my alarm last night!" Sorr looked up at the ceiling. "How dare you M.O.M!" Sorr said in a hollow and forced tone. "Why did you want me to be late?"

Taking a deep breath, Sorr closed his eyes when Brinna Dara Brinna Dara was busy creating hostilities. Not something one would want to do against hardened criminals which Sorr assumed everyone was. "Hey Brinna!" Sorr grinned. "Let's not be so....... pugnacious. These guys are valued crewman!"

He turned to the people. "No mission right now," Sorr said. "But we would love to get to know everyone! Soooo how about we go head to McYodas?"

That'll be a good team bonding activity...... right?

Meri had stayed close to the edge of the cargo bay, half a step behind RED-1, where the bulk of the droid gave her something solid to anchor herself against. The overlapping voices, the casual confidence everyone else seemed to wear so easily, all of it pressed in around her like static. She listened. She always listened first.

When Sorr finished speaking—laughing, gesturing, pajamas and all—Meri found herself staring at him before she could stop herself.

Why doesn't he just set his own alarm…?

The thought slipped in uninvited, quiet but persistent. Not judgmental exactly—more baffled. This was the captain. This was the person everyone else seemed to orbit. She blinked and quickly looked away, heat creeping into her cheeks at the realization she'd been openly staring.

Still, introductions seemed to be happening again, and she didn't want to be mistaken for someone who didn't belong. Her fingers tightened briefly around the strap of her satchel before she stepped just far enough forward to be seen—no more than that.

"I—um." Her voice came out softer than she intended, but it was steady. "I'm Meri Vale," she said, eyes flicking from Sorr to Brinna and then back down again. "I… already introduced myself earlier, but—just in case."

She swallowed, then added, because it felt important to be clear. "I'm not crew. I was… hired for research. Patterns. Old structures. Things like that." A pause. "I won't be in the way." That last part slipped out automatically, a reflex she didn't quite catch in time. She shifted her weight, hands folding together in front of her.

"And—um—McYodas sounds… fine," she said, carefully neutral. Food meant people sitting down. Sitting down meant fewer eyes moving around. That was good. Her gaze lifted briefly back to Sorr, curiosity still there beneath the nerves, before she looked away again. "…Thank you. For explaining."

Roark watched Meri with a certain curiosity and then stopped watching her. Chances were it would scare her even more. There was a tension about her that even this group of assembled jokers could not explain. She seemed perpetually nervous and perpertually busy apologizing for her existence.

When you gallivate through the Outer Rim for most of your life you become something of a judge of character, either that or a cold stiff body.

There was more about Meri than what met the eye. The day she realized that herself, she could probably relax.

"Alright, McYodas it is. I take the Banta Breakfast Carry-Out and the Big Cuppa Caf."

Hes hrugged in the general direction of RED-1.

"What are you looking at? No flight without fuel right?"

I had never bern to McYodas. Nor have I ever eaten anything that was considered fast food. It is not as though I was a home cook or a chef. It was just that I had never really eaten anything but luxurious meals. Even while living on the run, I would still have it. My only rations were just the meals in smaller portions; sometimes eaten cold.

There is little doubt in my mind that these people would laugh at me, or make some kinds of comments to themselves due to my lack of dining culture. And so I mind my tongue and do not divulge any of that information. Instead I redirect the conversation a bit; "Where shall I put my cases? In my quarters? Where might I find it?" I can only hope that my quarters are private for I have never shared a room with anyone before.

RED looked back at Roark. "That is a true statement, Sir Roark. I now have a better understanding of the situation. I will try not to make any trouble for you..... much," Red-1 replied, his tone professional and polite. He turned to everyone there. "I am happy that I have met all of you and look forward to surviving this ship and its crew," Red said, the Droid looking at everyone, its eyes flickering.
"Activating crew protocol, running ship identification. Logging crew and identification. Loged RED-1 one is assigned to Tiaza's Purr and crew senior file started on Meri Vale. Complete. RED-1 is ready to serve on the Tiaza's Purr." RED informed the crew.
RED-1 turned and walked towards a wall, just past Meri, picked up a cable, and plugged it into its side. "I apologize, I am critically low on power. I must charge up to be of any use to this crew," said the droid when he turned back to everyone.
