It was during the event forever remembered as the Great Ruinous Invasion that Thurion Heavenshield, foremost champion of his people, was defeated at the hands of the dark being known as Gríma Hagraven - Goddess of Darkness and Despair, according to Valkyri religion. He lost not only the use of an eye to her viciousness, but also his trusty companion Snowfall - the sword that had been ever at his side for the last few decades. Gríma shattered the phrik blade into several pieces with but a firm grip and clenched fist, after which she left Thurion beaten and bloodied. It had long been believed that victory was assured whenever he was seen riding into battle, brandishing the ancient blade. Until now.
Thurion was taken to Averlorn, woodland realm of the Aelvar, where he and many others received treatment for their wounds, and regained consciousness the following morning. His body and spirit had both taken a severe defeat, feeling that his people's trust in him is no longer warranted. Still, with the help of those closest to him he learned to overcome his injuries in spite of being told his eye sight could not be restored on his left eye, and the hideous scars would be with him for the rest of his lives.
Once back in Fridheim, Capital of Westmark, Thurion began working on replacement for his trusty Snowfall. The shattered blade did not accompany him, but rests in a place of honour within Averlorn, awaiting its reforging at the hands of another who would claim its strength. Building on the design of his brother's sword, Brimstone, Thurion sought out the various materials he would need to bring his intended design to life. Once gathered, he journeyed to Tháinbroek and just as he had aided his brother and king in forging Brimstone, High King [member="Thyrian Hearthfire"] now assisted his younger brother using the ancient forge located through secret means. There they toiled for hours on end, until they returned with a completed weapon. It would be known as Lionheart, as is befitting of Midvinter's Golden Lion.
The sword was created through the use of Alkahest - the lightside version of Alchemy - and thus imbued with the power of the Force, even going so far as to incorporate a lightsaber crystal into its design. The Solari crystal serves to ensure that no servant of darkness or anyone impure of heart cannot wield its power, but also provides the blade with its rather unique ability to take on the properties of a lightsaber. With but a thought from its wielder the surface of the blade lights up and becomes tremendously hot to the touch, and just like a lightsaber it becomes capable of carving through even the toughest of materials that are not proven to be lightsaber resistant. Aided by the Force, the crystal embedded in the hilt ignites the surface of the cold metal until the entire blade is enveloped, becoming deadly to the touch.
It is significantly heavier than a standard lightsaber however, as it retains its mass and weight even when assuming its more powerful form, making duels against proper wielders of lightsabers a toilsome task. While less agile, its added mass does allow for more powerful strikes as more weight is being put behind every swing, and can therefore more easily overwhelm and break the guard of an unprepared opponent. The sword can of course be used in its normal form and is formidable on its own merits, but lacks the effectiveness of a lightsaber; it will still carve through many known materials, but never with the same ease and fluidity of motion.
