Private Life on the other side?

There is a simplicity to being in the Academy that the Order of Shiraya could learn from. That is not a negative reflection on the Jedi, just that there is more of an accepted “structure” to the day that makes it easy to plan activities around and between classes. True, life in the Order is somewhat “relaxed” but there is more of a “When is my next lesson?” not “What will my next lesson be?”.This structure allows for a more predictable routine, which can be beneficial for both students and instructors. It also provides a clear framework for learning and growth, making it easier to track progress and set goals.

This may not be for everyone, but I have grown quite accustomed to it, perhaps because I grew up in the environment. Which is why it was surprising when I had the feeling that the kid walking towards me needed someone to talk to. He looked a little lost.

Hi there, you look to be looking for something. Need help?

While there was Jedi training that Aileni was needing to get on with since he was still new to the Order, he was also determined to explore other skills that he wanted to learn. Aileni was going to be independent as a person, he was going to be skilled as he could be in as many things as he could take on. That included learning on how to fly, not just the basics but becoming a skilled pilot that could be helpful in battle. As well as having fun with races if he ever wished to venture into that.

Aileni was a little lost in this pilot academy since it was similarly large to the temple, with people walking around and classes seemingly going on that Aileni held no context for. There were some basics that Aileni had in how one flew a ship but beyond those very simple basics, he had no real experience in the matter. And he doubted that he could rely on his natural talent to get him far, something he suspected would be more lacking in this ability compared to the Force training that seemed a lot easier to handle new lessons.

Looking at the person who called out to him, Aileni looked a little stunned, his bright green eyes adjusting and taking in the information of the other guy.

"Hey... Yeah... Maybe." Aileni mentioned, slightly stumbling over his words before he found his voice once again, "looking to get some experiences in flying ships. Figured it would be a benefit to the Republic if I could become a skilled pilot for combat and travelling purposes." Aileni shrugged his shoulders, not sure if others might see it as much of a benefit but Aileni thought every soldier made a difference in battle.

So, I took a moment and stepped forward, flight jacket slung casually over one shoulder, helmet tucked under my arm. This kid was out of his element, clearly and did not need rigidity, so I relaxed, but the sharpness in my eyes didn’t seem to miss a thing. He was hesitant in his tone, the searching look in his eyes.

Figured right, I couldn’t help but offer a lopsided grin. Every soldier, every Jedi, every pilot—makes a difference.

Two classmates were walking the quad and waved to me, I shifted slightly and waved back, my boots seemed to be scraping lightly on the hangar floor as another passing group of cadets murmured by, some nodding greetings to him in recognition. Truly different from Shiraya where I’m often avoided, but my focus stayed on Aileni.

I’m Michael, beat Angellus. And if you’re here to learn, you’re already ahead of most. Flying’s not about being perfect. It’s about patience, precision—and knowing when to trust your gut, and when to trust the ship.

The professional speak was done, time for something a little more personal.

When I first came here, I didn’t know if I was supposed to be a Jedi or a pilot. Honestly, some days I still wonder. But I figured—why not try being both? That way, I don’t have to be just one kind of help when things go sideways. Granted, my dad’s name is on the buildings so I had that, but one good thing about this place… Nepotism does not exist…

Unlike other places.

Looking over at the the empty simulators lining the side of the bay gave me an idea.

C’mon. Let’s get you a test flight. Doesn’t matter how you start. What matters is you care enough to want to get better. That’s the part no one can teach.

It was clear that Michael was a popular guy since there were random people greeting him and acknowledging him in passing, something that Aileni had no experience in. He came from a small community where everyone knew one another, to a temple where he basically knew only one or two people. Aileni had no clue how people could handle with the attention that was thrown around like this. There was pressure to keep up appearances when there were more eyes on you but Aileni hated the idea of that.

"Cool, I'm Aileni, Aileni Xeraic," he gave a smile as he introduced himself. Figuring that his name wouldn't be as commonly recognised as some others like the Sal-Sorens. "Good to know, I am not aiming to be perfect with it. Pretty foolish to be perfect with anything I think." Aileni knew that perfection was the biggest lie out there, but he was intended to be better than most he knew at flying so there was going to have to be some training and effort put into this. Aileni was also interested in figuring out how flying in combat differed to casual journeying around the galaxy.

Aileni blinked, not realising there had been a name on the building when he entered, had there been? Was he that oblivious when focusing on finding where he wanted to go? There may have been mentioned of a name but he completely forgotten that. "Huh, cool." Perhaps that was why there was a popularity with him, there was always going to be some privilege people faced when family was attached to a school.

"Nepotism is tough. Sometimes it is good to use it, sometimes it gets abused." Aileni mentioned, there was probably some nepotism he faced being the son of Dreidi Xeraic. A leniency that he was gifted where others might not, but also there were expectations of him achieving higher results in comparison to others because of that legacy he held. So it wasn't always a boon.

Walking over to the simulator, Aileni studied it and wondered if it would be a simulator that transferred experience to all ships or if he would need to try various simulators to get a fuller experience. Sliding in, his body sunk naturally into a experienced position, his eyes studying the various controls in order of sequence already. "Huh... must have been watching my mum closer than I realised..." Aileni muttered, trying not to think too hard about the idea that there was an air of deja vu surrounding the whole experience of simply sliding into a simulator seat.

"Makes sense," Aileni understood that motivation was not something that could be taught but formed naturally within someone. His hands reached up and flicked a couple switches into place as he got the simulation started. "What should I be expecting with this?"

I would ask if you were any relation to the Knight, with the name Xeriac… but I have a feeling I already know.
I felt weird saying that, but it was good to know that he understood what I meant though. Michael was not only a military legacy name, but he was technically a “Vanagor” too as Caltin, before he went in the ice had a sister that was married to Arestul Angellus… but that is a story for another day. Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with shooting to be “perfect” but expecting to be is when you make mistakes.

Aileni was already sliding into the simulator. That would get me in trouble, but I’d survive. I was just hoping Lieutenant Guarnashel was not the one to see, which of course meant that he was.

“Man! I wish my Dad’s name was on the building! The things I could get away with! Just w”

They are both there under my authority.[/I]

Man, I had never been so glad to see Rojuhr Pouihl than I was just then. Didn’t know he was there, but the man just saved my bacquin.

“Sir. I must offer my observation that Angellus…”

... is helping another kid who doesn’t know what he wants to do in life yet. Isn’t that beneficial to the Academy?

“Sir…”

I believe the potential answer that you are looking for… Lieutenant is either a “Yes”... or a “No”.

“... yes” I had actually felt bad for him at this point. Yes, he did not like me, but he cared about the betterment of his pilots. It was still entertaining to watch though. When Rojuhr snuck in a wink as he and the Lieutenant left the area, I just turned around.

Sorry about that. Normally we would have to ask permission, by simply waiting by a simulator, they have to watch us. You did nothing wrong, I should have said something… anyway this first run is about you learning the controls and just an easy take off and landing. It’s about the handling and getting a feel for the controls. So just hit the engine ingnitions to start the simulation.

"Yeah, my mother, didn't realise you knew her. Must be more popular than I thought she was," Aileni chuckled, "how do you find having a name that people recognise?" Aileni knew some people enjoyed being recognised or connected to important families or powerful names. Others found the expectations placed upon them as too much. Currently, Aileni was still figuring out where he stood on the matter, hence he was curious on what others thought to help his thinking.

Aileni's eyes went wide in surprised when he was called out for breaking the rules, rules he didn't know existed. His head turned around, looking to see if he missed a notice or rule board that stated the proper procedure in approaching the simulations. He hated the idea of being called out so publicly and causing issues. Aileni was trying to avoid drawing any negative attention on himself, he wanted to ensure that people saw him positively so that his mother knew he was placing his best foot forward.

Not falling into the bad habits of causing trouble like he had before joining the Order.

Luckily things didn't go too poorly and someone seemed to have saved them from a very salty lieutenant. Someone who was not happy that Michael's family name was attached to the school, probably a negative in having that family connection. Luckily for Aileni, he didn't know of any buildings or companies that were in his family name, there was the enclave run by his mother on Dathomir and the family clan but that felt different to this place. He was used to fighting to prove he earned his place on Dathomir, nothing was given to him and usually he would get in trouble for being so willing to fight others.

"Okay, sounds easy enough, I suppose." Starting the ignition, Aileni grabbed the controls and began the take off procedure, curious about how realistic this would feel in comparison to actually flying a ship. "What got you interested in being a pilot?" Aileni asked, figuring that small talk about piloting would help pass the time while he practiced the simulation.

I didn’t mean anything bad by it.
Wow, that was surprising. I thought she was like an older sister or something, but okay. When he asked me about how I deal with name recognition, I needed a minute to give an answer without going on some weird rant. Honestly it depends on the day. Some days, I’m in a place where I can be “me” and people don’t care, they just want to be around me and know that they can count on me. Some days… I don’t fit in, and am told I’m at fault for it. Oh well, such is life, right?

It was a convenient metaphor. I like it here. I don’t like it at the Sanctuary. Yet for some reason, I want to be a part of the Sanctuary. Maybe it is me. Maybe I just want things I can’t have. After all, Dad is dead.

He asked a simple question, really, but it was LOADED at the same time.

I… wow that’s actually a tough one. I guess I don’t really know. I grew up in all of this. I mean some kids grew up playing outside. I grew up in a cockpit, or running an obstacle course. I mean I enjoy it, it’s really my life more than anything. It’s what I know.

Giving a laugh, Aileni shook off the idea that anything bad was said, he hadn't taken it poorly or personally. He was more interested in how others knew his mother, there was a lot he didn't know about her. "Yeah, she's a species that ages super slowly so people don't realise how old she is since she still looks in her early twenties. Gotta love the idea of looking young for years to come." Something Aileni also knew was in his future, aging drastically slowly in comparison to those around him, but for now he had the benefits of aging more appropriately. The changes would not occur till he was an adult from what his mother had said.

"That makes sense, something that is more day by day than an overall thing." Aileni stated, he adjusted the ship in the simulation, feeling the changes in controls as he took off. It wasn't the perfect smooth motions of a skilled pilot but Aileni was feeling the similar deja vu he would get when Jedi training. As if he had flown a ship before, without actually having done so. He kept that to himself for now, it was too weird and he wasn't sure how others would respond to the idea that skills, training, it felt more relearning an old skill over learning something completely new.

Giving a slow nod of his head, Aileni understood the question seemingly being something small but actually ending up having a deeper meaning than intending. "Makes sense, I grew up around Force Users, some Jedi, some not. Makes me curious what other cultures are like out there and how different they are to life here. But having the comforts of a setting I know and am familiar with. Helps de-stress from the normal stresses that can build in a day." Aileni stated, "as long as you enjoy what you do and what you do doesn't harm others, then it's great to find what you love."

Wow, I’m part Shi’ido, so I get that.
It’s odd really, how some races age QUICKLY, and some don’t. Of course I did not say something stupid this time, like I did when I met Eerie Omera Eerie Omera so that is a plus! I guess it gets tough if you find someone and they’re not of the same species… like in the case of my grandmother. She only passed away a few years ago and my grandfather passed of old age some 60-80 years past… but I digress.

No sob story, it is what it is. You’re a pretty quick study. Let’s add a little wrinkle… Stepping to the back of the simulator and entering a new situation, there was now a trench run loading.

A little more confined flying, but you’ll be fine if you pick up on it the way you did this.

"Got any shapeshifting abilities from that? Or just a slightly longer than average lifespan?" Aileni asked, curious how much the influence of Shi'ido genetics would have on a person, could they only change something subtle like hair colour, eye colour, hair length? Or would they still have some major shapeshifting capabilities. "I am part Zorren... Not sure what else, never met my father... if I can even call him that." Aileni verbalised, wondering what the correct term would be, abandoner? Sperm donor? biological father?

It didn't really matter, he had not been there from the start so Aileni was not particularly bothered, he had been raised by a community so nothing felt lost in his mind. "Yeah, the idea of being thousands of years old and only looking like I am 40 or 50 does sound strange... Daunting even. I mean, how does dating even work then? Would it be creepy to date people I look like or should I only be dating other species who live as long as I do?" Aileni chuckled since he didn't really care that much and it seemed absurd to even think about the problematic situations of being incredibly old with someone who was far younger.

"Sure, let's smooth out the wrinkles!" Aileni grinned, thrilled to be set some more challenges. As the simulation changed and Aileni was having to adapt to the more confined space that his ship had to fly through. His hands seemed less certain, facing a challenge he was not as familiar with as he had been before. However, his eyes narrowed, his mind focusing as he blocked out the outside voices. His hands flicked switches to adjust the shields for the trench run and controlled the speed so it wasn't going a blistering speed but something manageable.

Aileni was clearly less experienced with how to handle this style of piloting but his focus and resolve were coming through to replace the lack of natural insight in what to do.

When asked about it, I looked around to see if anyone was paying attention, and then shifted to my actual younger face. Not much, but clearly younger.

I can’t change my look too much, only ¼ the heritage, but yeah. I didn’t wate time and quickly shifted back to the look that most, if not all around here knew me to be. It’s not the secret that it used to be, but I lied about my age to apply for the Academy. I entered two years early. Of course those with the most pull knew who I was and were willing to let it go. I guess it is a perk of the name, but I still work as hard as everyone here. Not to prove myself, but because I don’t want to be treated with kit gloves. It feels good to be looked on for your first name, and not last sometimes.

Another sob story about time with the Jedi? Maybe, but it is what it is. Make no mistake. I’m proud of my lineage. I’m even proud of my cousin and my uncle, but that side tends to think I should know more than I do. With a shrug, I pressed a button on the simulator and two more fighters came up behind him.

A little more confined flying, but you’ll be fine if you pick up on it the way you did this.

Aileni looked deeply impressed, it was intriguing to see active shapeshifiting. He knew that Zorrens developed new features when they become full blooded, however that was a permanent change. Not the fluid transformation that Michael demonstrated just now. "That's awesome, how did you figure out that you could do that?" There were now a million new questions on Aileni's mind about how someone went about that or the limitations to the transformative abilities.

However, for now, he limited himself to a singular question, maybe two if something crucial popped into his mind after hearing the answer.

"Oh damn, that keen to start flying, huh?" Aileni asked, curious as to why someone would be so willing to break the rules on entering early. It seemed bold but also risky, if someone less willing to bend the rules had caught Michael, the opportunity to be here at all could have been risked. At least, Aileni figured it would have been. His mother was the strict style of parent who would punish such lying. Patience loses you nothing, was her mentality. While Aileni secretly thought Michael was bold and very cool for doing it.

Shrugging his shoulders, "Why do you think they believe you should know more than you do?" Aileni asked, wondering what gave that impression.

The adjustments were getting more challenging as he attempted to adapt once again with what he was doing. His fingers flicked switches and he was starting strong with the ship moving fairly smoothly through the trench run with the other ships causing things to tighten. However, Aileni was not noticing the ship tilting out of control until it was too late. He had overcompensated for the narrow space and ended up hitting one of the other ships, causing the domino effect of crashing himself.

"Damnnnn... I was so close to finishing that one too..." Aileni sighed, frustrated with himself but also keen to try again, thinking that he could succeed a second time around.

I wasn’t really surprised that he would react the way he did when I changed. I mean, I do it all the time and I think it is pretty cool. I guess it’s a lesson in taking things for granted.

My dad taught me. My godfather too, he’s the one who bailed us out. I don’t have the skills of Ro… Captain Pouihl… but that is because he is a full Shi’ido, I’m maybe a quarter. I can change my appearance to an extent in the realm of hair color, age, maybe some wrinkles… he could go the gambit. It was not really something that I thought about as I shrugged, but again… “what you take for granted”.

It was funny, his reaction as to why I did what I did, but I get it. It’s a long story really, but I needed some self-confidence, and I was not getting it in the situation I was in. Not blaming anyone, just the way it is. Weird, now that I think about it, it’s like I am two different people between here and the Sanctuary.

Then he asked me a question I really don’t like answering, only because I don’t want to dwell on the past anymore, but it had to be faced from time to time. I suppose that it boils down to my uncle. He taught me what limited skills I have in the Force, save one, that was from Lorn Reingard Lorn Reingard , don’t know if you know him or not. Nice enough guy… I guess. If a bit of a liar, even if well intentioned.

Anyway, my uncle is nuts... I needed to laugh there. ... at least in the way of skills… but he’s also a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to training. He believed that everything builds on something else. He’s also big on consistency. So coming to the Sanctuary… the culture… it’s… different… I will not be rude here. I guess they expected because… I didn’t really want to name drop but… I guess some of them might have expected that because Caltin Vanagor is my uncle and Connel Vanagor is my cousin… that I would know more than I do.

Shrugging at Aileni’s disappointment, I needed to step in. You did better than most do on their fifth try at that lesson, let alone most do on their very first time in the simulator. You’re doing fine. Besides… even Aces can crash… systems can fail…

Anyway, back to what I was saying. I don’t like feeling that way, but a Master that I guess my uncle personally asked if he would take me on as his student personally told me that I was more or less a disappointment. It’s been hard to recover from. I still want to be a part of them though, but I need to work on getting past that first. I’ll get there.

It made sense that his family would have been the ones to teach him, Aileni should have guessed that but he supposed that he wasn't trying to assume anything since it could be a thing that needed self discovery over being a taught skill. Still, it was interesting to hear what Michael could do and what he was limited in being able to do. "I suppose that means you never have to fear about going bald. Which is definitely a bonus!" Aileni chuckled deeply, he always wondered if he had to fear the idea of becoming bald due not knowing what his biological father looked like.

Nodding his head, "fair enough, it makes sense to chase the dreams and desire to feel wanted or accepted." Aileni mentioned as he thought over everything he had done in error during the previous simulation run. His mind thinking through the different ways to approach things.

Hearing Lorn's name, he shook his head, he had not had the chance to meet the Jedi Master but Michael saw him as a respectable and good guy so Aileni knew to keep an eye out in the future. "I will have to keep an eye out for him in the future." Aileni stated. Then the unloading of issues that Michael had faced when being part of the Jedi Order on Naboo. It was an interesting stark difference, it seemed that Michael was someone who appeared to be less talented than people assumed he would be. Whereas Aileni was seen as significantly more gifted than he should be.

The name drop didn't completely go over Aileni's head but he didn't really know the names mentioned, he was still learning names of the Jedi around and he hadn't met many outside those who had been friends of his mother. However, they were people important to Michael as well as clearly people who had some sort of reputation. "Must be tough, feeling that pressure to measure up to others in your family but that is an issue others had. It is not proper Jedi mindset to assume more of a person than who they are, to pressure them to be someone else. That isn't how a good teacher should be as well."

"Whoever called you a disappointment is the bigger disappointment. You are probably better as a Jedi than you realise and definitely than whoever the Master was," Aileni was not mincing his words, he would look down at those in power if they were not worthy of being there. He was not someone who had been taught to be tolerate of fools or idiots. "Hopefully you are able to find the strength that is inside you."

Looking at the simulation, the praise was kind but not necessary, Aileni was keen to demonstrate he was determined to improve. "Lets see how well I do on round two, right?"

Though I laughed, it was funny after all, I couldn’t help but wonder if the dude was making a joke about uncle Caltin. He’s technically “bald” but he was scalped. Oh well, not a big deal either way, I laughed.

One thing that was important to me is that I picked up confidence in myself, but also here… you don’t need to worry about what other people think of you. Yes, they don’t over at the Sanctuary… to be fair… but here your record can speak for itself. I mean, I’m barely out of the program and I’m already assigned to a squadron, which is cool.

Watching him on the simulator, he was coming out of some of his turns a little wide. I could do something cool here. When you go into that turn, or one in general… try to cut back on the throttle and take the turn a little wider if you can. That way when you can feel your ship commit to it, you can jam forward on the throttle and come out tight and with more speed without losing room.

Then he brought up his opinion about measuring up to your family, and I get it, it’s a fair point. However: I guess I’m lucky. That is the first thing my uncle told me when he told me I could use the Force. He said “take my reputation, and throw it out the window. Don’t worry about being the next “me”, be the first “you”. I mean, some look at him and Connel and are starstruck, me? Meh… you know? I don’t want to assume, but it’s like you with your mother, would I be right? You just know her as “mom”? This guy should be a therapist! I’m feeling so much more comfortable talking about Jedi crap than usual, even around Master Quin!

It was nice to hear, what he said in regards to how I was not a disappointment. I couldn’’t help but shrug, not out of disrespect, but because… I’m just not that guy anymore. That’s nice of you to say, thank you... I try not to really worry, or think about it anymore… I mean, we can’t control what others think about us. There was a part of the simulator where he scraped the overhang in a dive, I could help there. Try rolling into an “inverted” stat… instead of just pushing forward, it will help you maneuver…

Straightening up again... Anyway, thank you. I’m just not that guy anymore. I didn’t know why they felt that way… now I just don’t really care. I mean, I want others to be comfortable around me and all, but… I know what I’m good for, and I know what I bring… I used to be afraid of my own shadow. Sure a lot of it had to do with what we were being thrown into… though the lesson your mother taught… the one where I recognized the name from was really cool and I’m not just saying that… anyway… I didn’t find myself until I came here. I know what I want to do and how I want to go about getting there too, I owe a lot to this place. I could only laugh at that mouthful.

Wow… yeah didn’t meant to dump all of that on you…

Hearing Michael laugh, Aileni realised he must have made a joke without realising it but he grinned and simply nodded his head. Not trying to seem obvious in the fact that he completely missed the fact that he had mentioned a joke without intention behind it. Aileni nodded his head, "I have no clue really on the rules and structure for the Sanctuary. I am still pretty new there and having to figure out who I want to be both as a Jedi and outside of that." He was still developing as a person, Aileni knew that due to what his mother said but also common sense informed him of that. He had to learn where his skills were best placed.

Listening to what Michael stated, Aileni adjusted quickly, adopting the technique quickly and gave an appreciative smile to the older guy, "thanks for the advice." Aileni mentioned as he worked on proceeding with the challenge to the best of his ability. His skills were shifting with the challenge better as he flicked a few switches and made sure to change the settings on the ship so that it suited his flying style. Aileni was finding his niche in this style of piloting and what he would be good as.

"I mean, then what does it matter what others say then? If you know that your family do not see you as falling behind or not achieving as much as you should, then surely it doesn't matter what others says since you know they don't get you or your family?" Aileni pointed out, it was how his mother approached training. It was not important whose name you arrived or what family you had. What mattered was the dedication and commitment you gave her to know how serious you took things. It was why Aileni always felt a drive to do his best in everything.

No matter how exhausting that felt at times or how overwhelmed he felt because everything had to be 110% or he was not working hard enough.

As Michael offered the advice for the inverted stat, Aileni made the adjustment immediately. As if he understand the language of flying while this was still pretty new to him. "Oh... this is an inverted stat?" Aileni asked, something had him thinking it was instinctual to do it but he had no name for it. "Cool." He stated.

"Don't worry, you aren't the first to tell me how cool my mother is. She is a hippy witch Jedi, with a ton of tattoos and very relaxed attitude. Most of the Order seem to see her as pretty damn cool." Aileni chuckled, he didn't care all that much on what others thought of his mother. He liked her and she was always going to be important to him. "I'm sure you get understanding why sometimes you just have to accept that people find your family awesome or cool while seeing them as being more cringe at times." People didn't see family members beyond what was shown to them whereas Aileni saw more of his mother and more of her being cringe.

I’m not speaking ill of the place, don’t get me wrong. Just finding where I fit more, like we all are in our life journey, I suppose.

Watching him on the simulator, he was getting better. You got this. He was indeed a quick study, granted flying a “trainer” simulation was meant to be easy, but he hasn’t really done anything even seasoned cadets don’t do.

Then he brought up a good point. I guess that is the point I’m making too. We all have to find our way and what is important to us. I should have come here first, because I have the exact same thoughts. It’s more about what you want for yourself and out of life. The opinions of others are nice, but if you live for them, you’re not really living, are you? Rhetorical, to be sure.

My uncle is cool. My cousin makes me cringe… Granted, it’s only to myself, but I snorted. Don’t tell him I said that.

Straightening up again as he finished the sim. Want to try flying for real?

"Oh, I wasn't suggesting you were. I just haven't spent my time there long enough to form my own opinions so I didn't wish to make a comment defending it or disparaging it. Not yet at least." Aileni grinned, he was sure that there will come a day that he will have lots to say and give plenty of opinions on the matter.

Nodding his head, it seemed that Michael was finding himself and beginning the steps to pursue that path. "Well, it is a good thing that you found that path now, not later in life when it would have been harder to pursue it." There was always people who pursued things too late in life, Michael was not that much older than himself so there was still plenty he could do and learn in order to become the best version of himself.

"I mean, family always tends to make us cringe. No matter how cool the rest of the Order sees my mother, she will always be someone I find cringe-y at times." Aileni chuckled, he had face palmed at some of the things he had to deal with when it came to here. But that was different to being related to and living with a person and just seeing them out and about.

When there was an offer to fly an actual ship, Aileni looked up, "serious? Yeah, definitely!" Aileni exclaimed excitedly.

Journal Entry:
.

There wasn’t much more to be said about “family” and the goings on of the Sanctuary and the Academy. So it was time to go have some fun and keep true to my offer to fly. I still had a couple of hours before my next class as this was “study hall”, so it was a free period. So I led him silently out of the simulators to the flight line. C’mon. Let’s go have some real fun.

No way was I going to take us to the trainers. I wasn’t going to get yelled at by that Lieutenant again, haha. It was okay though as I had no intention of taking this kid on one of them yet. The simulators are one thing, but learning to fly, one thing dad taught me is that it’s always better to start “big” and then go “smaller” the better you get. Luckily, uncle Caltin had left a Jedi Defender"Class Light Corvette for me to use. It’s been doubling as my “dorm” when my roomates got annoying.

”BRED”? You around? Walking in, I wanted to make sure my Astromech was there to make sure things would be easier when it came to flying this thing. Of course “he” was and gave me the snarky response I was expecting.

BweeeOOOO [Where else would I be?]

This is “Alieni”, he’s cool. He’s learning how to fly, so we’re going to be taking the ship up.

aoooo [We’re gonna die]

We are not! I couldn’t help but laugh when “he” said that, it was unexpected, and I don’t think “he” wanted it to be, but it was really funny. Let me give you a quick tour. I showed him the engines, and said a little about them, but assured him not to worry, this was where “BRED” would be, as well as there was a droidbrain already controlling them.

That really was it, not much of a “tour” to give. Getting in the cockpit, I pointed him to grab a seat in the spot on the other side of the central panel. He could see how I handled the ship on takeoff, especially when it was time for him to take the controls. I explained the basics of the controls and what to expect during takeoff. He seemed nervous but eager to learn. As we prepared for liftoff, I reminded him to stay calm and trust the systems and just to watch and listen to me, which I was certain at this point he would. The engines roared to life, and we were airborne in no time. Alright. I’m going to get us to a good height, and then I’ll let you take over.

Sliding out of the simulation, Aileni jumped onto his feet and nodded his head to Michael. Ready and pumped to get into a real ship and attempt some flying with that. It was going to be interesting to compare the differences especially since it was going to be a ship that Michael owned so Aileni wanted to be super careful in not breaking it. That would be a really bad start to their friendship if he crashed the very first ship he flew that was owned by his friend.

Jumping on board the ship, Aileni gave a look around, he had seen similar style ships before but never knew the class or name of them. It was before he got interested in learning to fly and probably something to look into, the young Padawan was going to need to study the various ships that he could fly. The smaller classes since the bigger ones like Star Destroyers, they took more than a single pilot so he was never going to be flying one of those alone. Hearing Michael call out to a droid, he thought privately about how it was an unfortunate acronym or nickname that BRED had in his opinion.

"We only die if I crash, I haven't crashed a single ship yet. So, technically 100% success rate." Aileni commented, droidspeak had been one of the first languages that Aileni had learned, it was handy since there were so many astromechs and other droids that didn't always speak Basic. His comment was stupid since he had never flown a ship so of course he hadn't crashed but he figured it could make the droid and Michael chuckle.

Hearing about the engines, Aileni nodded his head, "cool. Interesting that you got a droidbrain in charge of them. I heard some pilots have a need to be in control of every part of the ship since they feel at times that the humanoid element gives them advantage." He mentioned, it was one of those things that he had heard in passing when reading up on how to fly from books in the temple. But it was probably smarter that some parts of the ship were controlled by droids to ensure they functioned at optimal levels.

Studying the way that Michael handled the controls, Aileni's green eyes were scanning over everything, taking in all the information and there was a calmness that came over him. Studying and focusing like this was letting the anxieties fade away from his thoughts as he waited till they got to the height for him to take over. "What do we want me to be doing? Hopefully no stunts or tricks while flying to start with." Aileni joked, he did not think it would be a good idea to do any bold manoeuvres in his first attempts of flying.
