Private Life on the other side?

There is a simplicity to being in the Academy that the Order of Shiraya could learn from. That is not a negative reflection on the Jedi, just that there is more of an accepted “structure” to the day that makes it easy to plan activities around and between classes. True, life in the Order is somewhat “relaxed” but there is more of a “When is my next lesson?” not “What will my next lesson be?”.This structure allows for a more predictable routine, which can be beneficial for both students and instructors. It also provides a clear framework for learning and growth, making it easier to track progress and set goals.

This may not be for everyone, but I have grown quite accustomed to it, perhaps because I grew up in the environment. Which is why it was surprising when I had the feeling that the kid walking towards me needed someone to talk to. He looked a little lost.

Hi there, you look to be looking for something. Need help?

While there was Jedi training that Aileni was needing to get on with since he was still new to the Order, he was also determined to explore other skills that he wanted to learn. Aileni was going to be independent as a person, he was going to be skilled as he could be in as many things as he could take on. That included learning on how to fly, not just the basics but becoming a skilled pilot that could be helpful in battle. As well as having fun with races if he ever wished to venture into that.

Aileni was a little lost in this pilot academy since it was similarly large to the temple, with people walking around and classes seemingly going on that Aileni held no context for. There were some basics that Aileni had in how one flew a ship but beyond those very simple basics, he had no real experience in the matter. And he doubted that he could rely on his natural talent to get him far, something he suspected would be more lacking in this ability compared to the Force training that seemed a lot easier to handle new lessons.

Looking at the person who called out to him, Aileni looked a little stunned, his bright green eyes adjusting and taking in the information of the other guy.

"Hey... Yeah... Maybe." Aileni mentioned, slightly stumbling over his words before he found his voice once again, "looking to get some experiences in flying ships. Figured it would be a benefit to the Republic if I could become a skilled pilot for combat and travelling purposes." Aileni shrugged his shoulders, not sure if others might see it as much of a benefit but Aileni thought every soldier made a difference in battle.

So, I took a moment and stepped forward, flight jacket slung casually over one shoulder, helmet tucked under my arm. This kid was out of his element, clearly and did not need rigidity, so I relaxed, but the sharpness in my eyes didn’t seem to miss a thing. He was hesitant in his tone, the searching look in his eyes.

Figured right, I couldn’t help but offer a lopsided grin. Every soldier, every Jedi, every pilot—makes a difference.

Two classmates were walking the quad and waved to me, I shifted slightly and waved back, my boots seemed to be scraping lightly on the hangar floor as another passing group of cadets murmured by, some nodding greetings to him in recognition. Truly different from Shiraya where I’m often avoided, but my focus stayed on Aileni.

I’m Michael, beat Angellus. And if you’re here to learn, you’re already ahead of most. Flying’s not about being perfect. It’s about patience, precision—and knowing when to trust your gut, and when to trust the ship.

The professional speak was done, time for something a little more personal.

When I first came here, I didn’t know if I was supposed to be a Jedi or a pilot. Honestly, some days I still wonder. But I figured—why not try being both? That way, I don’t have to be just one kind of help when things go sideways. Granted, my dad’s name is on the buildings so I had that, but one good thing about this place… Nepotism does not exist…

Unlike other places.

Looking over at the the empty simulators lining the side of the bay gave me an idea.

C’mon. Let’s get you a test flight. Doesn’t matter how you start. What matters is you care enough to want to get better. That’s the part no one can teach.

It was clear that Michael was a popular guy since there were random people greeting him and acknowledging him in passing, something that Aileni had no experience in. He came from a small community where everyone knew one another, to a temple where he basically knew only one or two people. Aileni had no clue how people could handle with the attention that was thrown around like this. There was pressure to keep up appearances when there were more eyes on you but Aileni hated the idea of that.

"Cool, I'm Aileni, Aileni Xeraic," he gave a smile as he introduced himself. Figuring that his name wouldn't be as commonly recognised as some others like the Sal-Sorens. "Good to know, I am not aiming to be perfect with it. Pretty foolish to be perfect with anything I think." Aileni knew that perfection was the biggest lie out there, but he was intended to be better than most he knew at flying so there was going to have to be some training and effort put into this. Aileni was also interested in figuring out how flying in combat differed to casual journeying around the galaxy.

Aileni blinked, not realising there had been a name on the building when he entered, had there been? Was he that oblivious when focusing on finding where he wanted to go? There may have been mentioned of a name but he completely forgotten that. "Huh, cool." Perhaps that was why there was a popularity with him, there was always going to be some privilege people faced when family was attached to a school.

"Nepotism is tough. Sometimes it is good to use it, sometimes it gets abused." Aileni mentioned, there was probably some nepotism he faced being the son of Dreidi Xeraic. A leniency that he was gifted where others might not, but also there were expectations of him achieving higher results in comparison to others because of that legacy he held. So it wasn't always a boon.

Walking over to the simulator, Aileni studied it and wondered if it would be a simulator that transferred experience to all ships or if he would need to try various simulators to get a fuller experience. Sliding in, his body sunk naturally into a experienced position, his eyes studying the various controls in order of sequence already. "Huh... must have been watching my mum closer than I realised..." Aileni muttered, trying not to think too hard about the idea that there was an air of deja vu surrounding the whole experience of simply sliding into a simulator seat.

"Makes sense," Aileni understood that motivation was not something that could be taught but formed naturally within someone. His hands reached up and flicked a couple switches into place as he got the simulation started. "What should I be expecting with this?"

I would ask if you were any relation to the Knight, with the name Xeriac… but I have a feeling I already know.
I felt weird saying that, but it was good to know that he understood what I meant though. Michael was not only a military legacy name, but he was technically a “Vanagor” too as Caltin, before he went in the ice had a sister that was married to Arestul Angellus… but that is a story for another day. Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with shooting to be “perfect” but expecting to be is when you make mistakes.

Aileni was already sliding into the simulator. That would get me in trouble, but I’d survive. I was just hoping Lieutenant Guarnashel was not the one to see, which of course meant that he was.

“Man! I wish my Dad’s name was on the building! The things I could get away with! Just w”

They are both there under my authority.[/I]

Man, I had never been so glad to see Rojuhr Pouihl Rojuhr Pouihl than I was just then. Didn’t know he was there, but the man just saved my bacquin.

“Sir. I must offer my observation that Angellus…”

... is helping another kid who doesn’t know what he wants to do in life yet. Isn’t that beneficial to the Academy?

“Sir…”

I believe the potential answer that you are looking for… Lieutenant is either a “Yes”... or a “No”.

“... yes” I had actually felt bad for him at this point. Yes, he did not like me, but he cared about the betterment of his pilots. It was still entertaining to watch though. When Rojuhr snuck in a wink as he and the Lieutenant left the area, I just turned around.

Sorry about that. Normally we would have to ask permission, by simply waiting by a simulator, they have to watch us. You did nothing wrong, I should have said something… anyway this first run is about you learning the controls and just an easy take off and landing. It’s about the handling and getting a feel for the controls. So just hit the engine ingnitions to start the simulation.

"Yeah, my mother, didn't realise you knew her. Must be more popular than I thought she was," Aileni chuckled, "how do you find having a name that people recognise?" Aileni knew some people enjoyed being recognised or connected to important families or powerful names. Others found the expectations placed upon them as too much. Currently, Aileni was still figuring out where he stood on the matter, hence he was curious on what others thought to help his thinking.

Aileni's eyes went wide in surprised when he was called out for breaking the rules, rules he didn't know existed. His head turned around, looking to see if he missed a notice or rule board that stated the proper procedure in approaching the simulations. He hated the idea of being called out so publicly and causing issues. Aileni was trying to avoid drawing any negative attention on himself, he wanted to ensure that people saw him positively so that his mother knew he was placing his best foot forward.

Not falling into the bad habits of causing trouble like he had before joining the Order.

Luckily things didn't go too poorly and someone seemed to have saved them from a very salty lieutenant. Someone who was not happy that Michael's family name was attached to the school, probably a negative in having that family connection. Luckily for Aileni, he didn't know of any buildings or companies that were in his family name, there was the enclave run by his mother on Dathomir and the family clan but that felt different to this place. He was used to fighting to prove he earned his place on Dathomir, nothing was given to him and usually he would get in trouble for being so willing to fight others.

"Okay, sounds easy enough, I suppose." Starting the ignition, Aileni grabbed the controls and began the take off procedure, curious about how realistic this would feel in comparison to actually flying a ship. "What got you interested in being a pilot?" Aileni asked, figuring that small talk about piloting would help pass the time while he practiced the simulation.

I didn’t mean anything bad by it.
Wow, that was surprising. I thought she was like an older sister or something, but okay. When he asked me about how I deal with name recognition, I needed a minute to give an answer without going on some weird rant. Honestly it depends on the day. Some days, I’m in a place where I can be “me” and people don’t care, they just want to be around me and know that they can count on me. Some days… I don’t fit in, and am told I’m at fault for it. Oh well, such is life, right?

It was a convenient metaphor. I like it here. I don’t like it at the Sanctuary. Yet for some reason, I want to be a part of the Sanctuary. Maybe it is me. Maybe I just want things I can’t have. After all, Dad is dead.

He asked a simple question, really, but it was LOADED at the same time.

I… wow that’s actually a tough one. I guess I don’t really know. I grew up in all of this. I mean some kids grew up playing outside. I grew up in a cockpit, or running an obstacle course. I mean I enjoy it, it’s really my life more than anything. It’s what I know.

Giving a laugh, Aileni shook off the idea that anything bad was said, he hadn't taken it poorly or personally. He was more interested in how others knew his mother, there was a lot he didn't know about her. "Yeah, she's a species that ages super slowly so people don't realise how old she is since she still looks in her early twenties. Gotta love the idea of looking young for years to come." Something Aileni also knew was in his future, aging drastically slowly in comparison to those around him, but for now he had the benefits of aging more appropriately. The changes would not occur till he was an adult from what his mother had said.

"That makes sense, something that is more day by day than an overall thing." Aileni stated, he adjusted the ship in the simulation, feeling the changes in controls as he took off. It wasn't the perfect smooth motions of a skilled pilot but Aileni was feeling the similar deja vu he would get when Jedi training. As if he had flown a ship before, without actually having done so. He kept that to himself for now, it was too weird and he wasn't sure how others would respond to the idea that skills, training, it felt more relearning an old skill over learning something completely new.

Giving a slow nod of his head, Aileni understood the question seemingly being something small but actually ending up having a deeper meaning than intending. "Makes sense, I grew up around Force Users, some Jedi, some not. Makes me curious what other cultures are like out there and how different they are to life here. But having the comforts of a setting I know and am familiar with. Helps de-stress from the normal stresses that can build in a day." Aileni stated, "as long as you enjoy what you do and what you do doesn't harm others, then it's great to find what you love."

Wow, I’m part Shi’ido, so I get that.
It’s odd really, how some races age QUICKLY, and some don’t. Of course I did not say something stupid this time, like I did when I met Eerie Omera Eerie Omera so that is a plus! I guess it gets tough if you find someone and they’re not of the same species… like in the case of my grandmother. She only passed away a few years ago and my grandfather passed of old age some 60-80 years past… but I digress.

No sob story, it is what it is. You’re a pretty quick study. Let’s add a little wrinkle… Stepping to the back of the simulator and entering a new situation, there was now a trench run loading.

A little more confined flying, but you’ll be fine if you pick up on it the way you did this.
