Let's Make Chaos Great Again

Hey guys, anyone remember these days?

YodhMS.jpg

I don't. I will be honest, when I was shown this my reaction was, "No way, there is no way there were that many factions on the map." Turns out... I was very wrong. From what I hear, these were the glory days of Chaos. Now, I am not one to believe the whole "Our best days are behind us" crap for organizations, boards, groups, or anything of that nature. However, with the things I have seen as far as this kinda map, the way people talk about the Lords of the Fringe, the Red Ravens, and the Black Suns, and all that, well I believe it actually. I had a hard time believing that the Mandolorians ever actually occupied that much space--let alone the Republic, or that the One Sith were ever that tiny.

Now, I have never been one to play the map game, and the few times I have tried to participate..... well, we won't go there. But, I am actually looking at this map and as naive as it sounds, thinking, "Who wouldn't want a map like this? So much opportunity, so much change, so much color, so much vigor, so much.... life?"

I don't want anyone to live in the past, and no, I don't want nostalgia, and no I don't want "Ah those were the days," however those things are welcome. I was hoping this would be the reaction: "Let's make chaos great again."

Frank and uncaring moment here:

I don't care who did what to who. Who said what about who to who, where, when or how. I don't give two rat's butts. I ain't here for drama. And I don't think there has to be. I am here for fun, writing, and amazing stories. So, let's do that. Bury the petty grudges that are there/shouldn't be there/might be there. Let's have fun. Let's see massive factions and let's watch em crumble. We do this for fun, and if we are all honest, this is a lame hobby--barely above the eyes of stamp collecting. Its not "cool" :p And its even less cool to hold petty grudges, have cliques and let that get in the way of having a map like that.

So, let's do that.

Let's make chaos great again.

Cheers.

Umm...

You're equating a map to the greatness of the board...a map that did not feature the current cloud break rules of invasions...a map that was reset at Netherworld...

Chaos is great, the map is just characterized by PvP that actually stings. A lot. Back then, invasions were high effort, minimal reward, thereby leading to the exceptionally larger territories you've posted.

As Isley said, the whole map game back then, and probably now (I wouldn't know, haven't touched this site in months), involves a lot of annoyances. People put in a lot of effort to claim territory, A LOT. When someone tries to take away your long hours and strenuous efforts, the water gets muddy, emotions flare, and it's a drama-fest.

Ex. A
Black Suns did a great deal of good effort to get what they want, and so did the Ravens, but our effort was focused elsewhere. Once we had the manpower, and the Suns didn't, it took very little effort to take their territory. Now, it took a lot of effort for them to get it in the first place and here I am with my lil' birdies stealing their planets while hardly breaking a sweat. Wasn't entirely fair. Bit of a low blow, hitting a person while he's down. Tensions got high, there was cursing involved.

I'm not a big fan of the map game anymore, but I do enjoy the idea of faction war nonetheless. I think it's good the factions are fewer and further apart. Less invasions means less drama.

How coloured in a map is doesn't equate to greatness. I look at that map and think, 'How claustrophobic,' whereas I look at the current one and the prospect of expansion and empty space excites me. The tentacles are a little off putting though, I must admit. Makes me feel like a Japanese person drew it.

Anyways, the board seems pretty damn great to me so far, colouring in a map won't add to the awesome.

A complimentary bottle of whiskey for every RP thread joined though...

That would be incredible.

What Isley said. But it's also that after the Netherworld there was a great rush to reacquire worlds. Massive ammounts of posting were accomplished and great things happened. Then everyone got burned out, and like a braking train, it ground to a near stop over a short amount of time. People only slowly gathered worlds. It's been well over a year now since the reset and look at all the space there is on the current map. I'd say still more than half of all systems still lay unclaimed. And many factions have fallen in that time. War has also taken it's toll. As Isley said, the new rules are brutal to the loser. Gaining and holding territory isn't easy anymore. The Sith crushed the Reps. But the Alliance just cut the Sith up bad too. It's just the reality now. So either aggressively expand or stay out of wars (Like that'll happen looking at you SSC).

The salt was real. But both our factions are dead now. I've made my peace with what happened a while ago. I would like to see a criminal faction back on the map. Though this time without rival criminals hacking away at each other. Bad for business.

The entire purpose of the Netherworld event was to reset factions to free up more map space. The Fringe, The Moross, The Omega Protectorate, the Levantine Sanctum, the Shadow Dynasty and the Imperial Remnant -- possibly even the Mandalorians -- were all on a decline in activity (or almost completely inactive) when this map was drawn and as result was pretty much hogging up space they didn't use. This meant new factions was not able to rise up and it meant that in general everything stood still to the point where invasions was the only option for expanding. There also was no room for custom planets to be outside of a major faction's cloud.

Things were far from salt-free back when this map was drawn, and if our current state means we rid of that at the cost of having much smaller nations I'd say that is a good trade-off.

Bring back Moross Crusade!

Thy best faction evar.

Oh, and Lords of the Fringe, maybe.

Those were the good old days. I can't say I don't miss these days. People know I love some salt every now and then and the board used to be full of that. The leaderships of factions were really awesome. Not good (a lot of the factions actually didn't do very good under these leaders' reigns), but just awesome.

Now our leaders are good, most of them awesome as well.

But we can't keep on delving in the past. We have to move forward. I believe we had one peak of storytelling and activity during the beginning of OS-GR war (Summer 2014) and things started slowly declining then for most factions. But I believe at the moment, we are going upwards again. Now we just have to grab our creative minds together and actually do what is best for the story and activity and make another peak of storytelling happen.

We don't have to make the map as cluttered as it used to be again. We just have to be better storytellers.

W.D.Y.D.G.R?

I happen to think the point we are at now is a good place to be.

You've got a heavy influential evil faction that is about to possibly fall, the good guys taking back the core, a chunk of peace loving elf lands (I'm looking at you SSC), a revitalised raiding Mandalorian crusade about to sweep in from the side and a slowly building Imperial threat in the outer-rim. This is all possible because of the amount of available space on the map.

Tiered Dominions are doing their part to make the map more colourful and naturally as the grounds expand clashes will be had. Those clashes will be awesome when they come, already we are seeing a great canon start to form around this particular timeline as the ball players slowly move into place!

The likely reason you won't see this now is two-fold, and they happened very close to each other.

Netherworld Event Wipes Map MAR2015 : http://starwarsrp.net/forum/1913-star-wars-netherworld-event/

It's almost like someone on Staff, a particularly intelligent & awesome fellow, took advantage of a moment in time when the community was okay to wipe the map and gave Staff the power to ensure Factions couldn't hoard space in the future. Because before then, the factions had to volunteer to go minor. Which led to no one volunteering to go minor. Which led to hoarding space and restricting new major factions to force invasions to gain territory.

Where you see "the glory days of Chaos", I see a bunch of inactive, useless blobs that couldn't survive a recall if it happened now.

April 7 2015 - Right dead in the middle of the "glory days" Netherworld Event - We had 1258 posts.

August 7 2016 - Right dead in the middle of absolutely nothing particularly of note happening - we had 1249 posts.

Anyone who continues this "glory days" stuff is so full of @#$%, lol. Maybe they were YOUR glory days. But they're not ours.

I miss spoke apparently, my apologies. :)

I don't mean the size of the colored land. I hate map hogging.... A lot. There are a number of planets I cannot and do not play on that I wish I could because factions have said "This is mine. Keep off or else." But it's their right so.... Is what it is I guess.

No what I meant was the number of options. Let's make more major (active) factions... Cause why not? I see it as the capitalism competition principle: the more major factions there are the more options to choose from. The more to choose from the better the story it will be.

That's all I am saying.

[member="Ra Vizsla"] be honest i enjoyed the map game right up until you guys decided to wipe it during the event that I can't even muscle my tongue or fingers to even mention. Since then a part of this site i enjoyed so much lost its appeal. Thats my opinion and mine alone.
