The shotgun barrel has been updated to accommodate modern shells.
Description: The original LeMat revolver was at once revolutionary and wildly impractical. Expensive to make and relatively fragile, it wasn't well suited to its intended roll as a weapon of the cavalry. Though accurate and powerful, with far more ammunition capacity than most revolvers of its time, the LeMat's movable striker that made it possible to utilize the integral smoothbore shotgun barrel was delicate, and could not easily be repaired in the field.
The mod 1 seeks to update the design while retaining the elegance and power of the original.
Though a break top design is not usually suited for more powerful ammunition (and the 16 gauge shotgun shell certainly counts), the extremely robust design utilized in the .455 Webley, in conjunction with the unusual placement of the shotgun barrel and modern materials are more than capable of standing up to the task. When the ammunition has been expended, the shooter can flup a lever that will allow the front portion of the pistol to pivot downwards, exposing the back of the cylinder and the shotgun barrel. The empty rounds can then be ejected and replaced with fresh ones. While this is quicker than reloading the original, it still takes more time than the average revolver, and will be extremely difficult under fire.
Rather than relying on the delicate dual positiion striker on the hammer of the original, the mod 1 utilizes a more robust firing pin and striker design. Instead of a delicate point, the striker is a blunt block that strikes a firing pin rather than impacting a percussion cap. When the customer wishes to engage the shotgun barrel, they cock the hammer back and use their thumb to lower the striker.
This is not a light handgun. At 2.5 kilograms, it's heavier than some rifle carbines. Even with that in mind, the recoil of the shotgun barrel is enourmous, and without the customer's vonduun-enhanced strength, it's highly unlikely that they would be able to use it without breaking their wrist.
