Lawfully Forbidden Gear and RP

You walk into a Starport and the GM guard says, "Yo homie. Guns ain't allowed here." ...What do you do?

This is not so much a question as it is a very uncommon situation in RP. As, lawfully forbidden items are few and far between in our galaxy. Indeed, just walk into any bar from Coruscant to the Outer Rim these days and you'll find characters garbed in the wildest fashions, and carrying the weirdest of weapons. From pink double-bladed Lightsabers all the way to Shakespeare Quoting Sonic Shotguns. Whoa. To quote Obi-won, "It's so uncivilized."

So I was wondering. Where is civilization exactly? And, how have it's laws affected your RPs? As, I myself have NEVER written a thread where my character was ever unarmed.

To be fair, most of the governing bodies here on Chaos are by and large insignificant background details when it comes to RP here. I can make a thread wherever I want, so long as it's labeled private and doesn't affect the owners. They can make whatever laws they want, but it's kind of hard to enforce in a private thread.

That's one of the advantages of fixed location RP. When planets are permanent locations that can be more easily monitored, the controlling faction can more easily create and enforce laws. I've had some rather harrowing threads over the years, trying to sneak in under the noses of a watchful faction for shenanigans, or trying to stop said shenanigans. Comes with its own set of problems, but it's made for some fun RP.

My character never has weapons on her, but this is an interesting question! One that many people find confuzifying!

All of the star wars characters seemed to always had weapons but then again they were all lawfully allowed. Jedi for example were peacekeepers in the prequels and are largely viewed the same way now I guess.

I suppose the reason is that in role play, the galaxy is filled with mundane NPCs but all of the PCs are in some ways the "main characters" of the story. Main characters do what they want. Idk.

It's also worth noting that most of the main characters were either criminals or military/law enforcement. You'll be hard pressed to find a professional in any of those categories that goes unarmed if they can help it, rules be damned.

Good times. Very good times. There've been some successful fixed-location threads here, with similar and generally excellent results.

In regards to the inability to control what happens in private threads, my personal favorite option is to keep an eye open. Maybe I spot something going down that's totally verboten in my territory (whatever that may be). If it's written as being in public or otherwise detectable, I just do my own little investigation thread and then post up a proportionate bounty.

Well the theory is for this character is to make it so she doesn't need weapons ever. She's gonna be a shaper and that will be her attack strategy. That said when it comes to fighting someone with a lightsaber, she will need a defense. That all said, the idea of our characters pertaining to any specific galaxy/world/faction laws is a bit harrowing in that we would have to stay updated on all of them.

To that, we would also have to have an effective and efficient way of monitoring others and ourselves. But even then it still restricts us the the creativity we have as writers to create the situations in this galaxy and role play universe that fully expresses our characters. To force our characters to pay attention to laws is not something many would want or would do, but I imagine we can apply them when the role play calls for it.

Only time a "banned weapons" law or thing came up in roleplay on this site for me was when Daella visited the Black Sun to have a chat.

Daella and the Jedi entourage were asked to give up their lightsabers. Daella declined and offered to chat with the Black Sun rep via holo instead of in person. Daella and the Jedi were let in with their weapons anyway - chaos ensued.

The only laws that apply to me are the Laws of Physics. And you can always bend some of those with The Force. Just don't break them, or the Physics Police will break your kneecaps.

[member="Ruby Wilded"] You're kidding right? There is literally a metallic compound (Laminanium) that can "re-melt" and be reforged at essentially any temperature... how the hell is that supposed to work exactly???

As for laws, you will find that characters like Triam will rarely care. Even when they do, they will have something concealed up their sleeves, in their boots, or in their robotic appendage hidey-holes.
