- Strongpoint: Designed to extract ore in the most hostile of environments, the Labyrinth is overgunned and overshielded to the greatest extent possible.
- Research and Development: The Labyrinth station is equipped with vast mining and processing facilities, and sprawling geology/minerology laboratories to study what is taken.
- Guerilla Mining: The station possesses Helix's in-house stealth technology, allowing it to slip into hostile territory and covertly mine resources.
- Crewed By Ghosts: While it ideally possesses at least a few solid crewmen, the Labyrinth can be fully staffed and operated by Helix's Holodroids.
- No Hyperdrive: The station possesses no hyperdrive of its own. It is reliant on Helslugs to move from place to place, and should the animal be hurt or killed, it will find itself stranded.
- Pet Rock: While it can move at sublight speeds under its own power, the station is not designed to evade pursuit, only to drift from one asteroid to another.
- Empty Nest: The station possesses no fighters, bombers, or any other strike craft support.
Constructed after a fateful meeting with the 3rd Legion's Imperator, the Labryrinth system is the ultimate in clandestine resource gathering technology. Resembling nothing so much as a several-kilometer-long sea creature, the station is designed to operate in enemy territory, being able to slip through blockades, attach itself to mineral asteroids, and quietly siphon materials away from the enemy's own space. Once so attached, it will activate its Helix-designed stealth suite, ideally allowing it to remain undetected until it can complete its theft. Occasionally, the station can simply touch down onto a planet's surface, forming a temporary mining fortress on a given world, though this increases the risk of detection.
If discovered, the Labyrinth is more than capable of defending itself. The station is packed to the very bulkhead with weapons, rendering it almost comically overgunned. Curious bypassers, sector security forces, pirates, or any other interlopers can be turned to free-floating atoms in short order.
The station's defenses are equally profuse. A staggering ten Bastille thermal arrays defend the station, a bulwark sufficient to render it impervious to all but the largest fleets. Even should it be discovered, the station is often capable of surviving extended periods of constant bombardment, by which time its task is almost certainly finished anyway.
The station's greater purpose, however, is to operate within the nightmare-haunted void of Otherspace. In this environment, it can expect near-constant assault by the local wildlife as it harvests precious voidstone.
On rarer occasions, the station is simply used as a (somewhat) mobile strongpoint in void combat or during planetside sieges, though its high cost and relative rarity mean that most in existence are tied up with more critical tasks.
Despite its relative efficacy, the design is plagued by a few tactical weaknesses, the first among them being the lack of a hyperdrive. While it can be transported from place to place (or dimension to dimension) by a Helslug, this will leave the station stranded should the animal find itself indisposed.
While it possesses a significant flak array in the form of its phosphor batteries, the station possesses no fighter complement, and is far too slow and ponderous to outrun enemy bombers in any case. Should it find itself separated from support and facing down a fleet too mighty for its weaponry to destroy, then the Labyrinth faces almost certain annihilation.
