The KONG-type Assault Armor is designed in the image of beskar'gam, meaning it shares many common traits. In particular, the it features a HUD, an Audio/Visual Recorder, a number of sensors (Pineal Eye, Motion, Infrared, etc.), a Broadband Antenna, a Rangefinder, a Photochromatic Visor, an Encrypted, Internal Commlink, Grav-Boots, and a basic oxygen filtration system.
Equipped with a refurbished, personal energy shield, the KONG-type Assault Armor boasts a modest resilience against sonic weaponry.
Possessing plates of Duraplast, the KONG-type Assault Armor boasts above-average resilience against kinetic weaponry (i.e. slugthrowers.)
Possessing plates of Duraplast, the KONG-type Assault Armor boasts above-average resilience against energy weaponry (i.e. blasters.)
Despite possessing the ability to withstand a glancing blow or two, lightsabers will absolutely decimate the KONG-type Assault Armor.
Concentrated, electrical assaults (i.e. Force Lightning) can easily conduct through the KONG-type Assault Armor's plating and wreak damage upon the power cell and the user.
EMP or Ion weaponry can shut down the electronic components of the KONG-type Assault Armor with relative ease.
"Imagine Boba Fett glued to a Wookie. In a nutshell, that is what we were going for with the KONG-type Assault Armor."
The KONG-type Assault Armor is a set of protective gear commissioned by the mercenary corporation: ApeX. Designed by the exceptional Corondex Arms, the KONG-type was specifically crafted to provide Ma'alkerrite members of the organization with reliable protection.
The tale of the KONG-type Assault Armor began with historic inspiration. Whilst drafting the initial mockups of the armor set, the design team decided to look to the past. They toyed with the notion of Stormtrooper, Nova Guard, or even Jedi Commander armors as a stencil; but quickly decided to emulate the best. Thus did the KONG-type begin with Mandalorian roots. Once decided, the design team set about making the finished product a fitting testament to Mandalore. This, of course, meant two things: providing world-class defense along with exceptional durability.
As Corondex did not have access to the fabled beskar of Mandalore, the company did research into other, fitting materials. They discovered Duraplast - an impressively resilient material that would provide any Ma'alkerrite with reliable protection. However, while the metal was indeed excellent, it fell short of beskar's mythic reputation in a number of ways; primarily in regards to lightsabers. While history has demonstrated that Duraplast could be reinforced in order to repel lightsabers to some degree, the budget of the customer eliminated that possibility from occurring. This left Corondex with the challenge of bulking up the already impressive abilities of base Duraplast to compensate. Based on price point, the solution came in the form of incredibly old Echani, energy shields that had been refurbished inhouse.
This choice, along with the incorporation of a sealed, Armorweave bodyglove, beefed up the armor's capabilities to satisfactory levels. The shield, despite reduced functionality due to age, allowed the wearer to withstand modest sonic attacks. In addition, the bodyglove along with the plating provided the means to survive a glancing blow or two from a lightsaber.
Thus, with durability address, Corondex tackled versatility and focused the majority of their efforts on the helmet. As history demonstrated, Mandalorians tended to customize their armor due to personal taste; and as such the company did not want to restrict its customer's choices with standardization. To this end, they installed as many "bells and whistles" into the helmet as possible - bringing it into line with some of the more common Mandalorian armors of present day. Outside of this, Corondex saw fit to provide a pair of mammoth, Grav-Boots with every set and gave the finished product a dark, gray finish. Suffice it to say, the KONG-type Assault Armor is a shining example of Corondex craftsmanship.
It can handle any monkey business ApeX gets into.
