STANDARD FEATURES
  • All standard features have been upgraded to utilize modern weapons and armor to bring the archaic design up to standards in the current age.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
  • Advanced ECM system and extended mid-range sensor suites.
STRENGTHS
  • The equipped hyperdrive system means the Star Wing can undertake long-range operations without the direct support of a capital ship.
  • Very sturdy shields and armor makes the Star Wing a difficult ship to take down, and these vessels have been known to return to their base of operations in a heavily damaged state that other fighter/bombers could not survive.
  • Weapons versatility means that the ship can participate in convoy and platform raids, live capture operations, and assassinations with relative ease.
WEAKNESSES
  • The ship's versatility means that the Star Wing is competent in many roles but does not excel in them like a truly dedicated craft would.
  • With average speed and maneuverability, faster vessels create complications for even the most competent Star Wing pilots.
  • Once the payload of warheads has been spent, the ship is a subpar in dogfights which places more of a burden on the pilot's skill to match interceptors.
DESCRIPTION
  • Ship Capability
    • The Star Wing is a single seat vessel that can be deployed on long-range missions from planetary bases or direct from hangars on capital ships.
    • The ship has a maximum cargo capacity of 1,000 kg, and can carry enough consumables for 3 days of prolonged operation.
    • The warhead launchers are capable of loading anything from concussion missiles to heavy space bombs, the capacity for which is based on the loaded warhead.
    • The twin ion cannons are used primarily for live capture missions when the ability to disable a vessel is crucial.
    • The chin mounted laser cannons are standard issue with the vessel and provide it with the means to combat other fighters.
    • The vessel was primarily operated as a gunboat, meaning that it was typically deployed with a fighter escort so that it could deliver the warhead payload to the target before engaging other vessels.
  • Historical Use Context
    • Historically, the ship was known for coming home with heavy damage that other ships would have otherwise been destroyed. Its powerful shields allowed it to engage enemies at point-blank range and afforded the pilots the opportunity to inflict more damage under fire when other fighters would have had to break off the assault.
    • During the Galactic Empire's reign, the Star Wing was sent numerous times on convoy and capital ship raids while equipped with proton torpedoes, escorted by another group of Star Wings equipped with concussion missiles to engage the other fighters.
    • With the introduction of the TIE Advanced, the escort Star Wings were replaced with the faster and more maneuverable Advanced, while the Star Wings themselves retained their role as a fighter/bomber meant for heavy and prolonged combat engagements.
    • While it was rare, the Star Wing was deployed directly from Star Destroyers on occasion, where it was meant to take on the vanguard role and draw fire away from other less durable vessels during the engagement.
