SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Extensive sensory apparatus
  • Broad resistance to damage
  • Self-regenerating structure
  • Force-nullified
STRENGTHS
  • Stalking Terror: The Watchman presents a considerable physical threat. All such droids possess tremendous brute strength, married to the startling agility one would expect of an arachnid.
  • Freezing Fangs: The Watchman mounts a number of disabling/afflicting armaments, perfect for non-lethal capture or overpowering single opponents.
  • Untouchable: Watchmen cannot be directly sensed, influenced, or attacked by the Force in any way.
WEAKNESSES
  • Hugging Range: With the sole exception of its phosphor-plasma armament, all of the Watchman's weaponry is primarily short-ranged, and optimized for capture/tracking rather than lethality.
  • Heavy: While it is very fast and agile, the Watchman is still a large, metallic monster. Weaker structures may not be able to bear its weight, preventing it from scaling them.

DESCRIPTION

Kidnapping is, without question, one of the Dzara's fortes. Various machines and creatures have been created to serve the role of nonlethal capture, but none are so fine-tuned as the Watchman.

These droids were developed as part of an ultra-classified Helix black project, though the primary mind behind their creation was in fact Neryn Ka. While ostensibly designed for asset retrieval, their true purpose is the capture of Force-sensitives for Lirka Ka Lirka Ka 's mysterious purposes. Needless to say, such a dangerous task requires a remarkably dangerous hunter.

While minor details of their appearance can vary somewhat (such as height, coloration, or the number of legs or eyes) most Watchmen are broadly similar in overall aspect. The average model has an approximately 5 meter legspan, and stands around 4 meters tall, though they can appear even larger than this when rearing up to their full height.

Despite this considerable physical bulk, the hallmark trait of Watchman droids is stealth. It is startling to know that something so large can move so noiselessly, but it is so. This capacity for silent stalking is further increased by a startling speed and agility. While they cannot fly or hover, Watchman models have been observed to make standing leaps in excess of 60 meters to cross gaps or climb buildings.

As their arthropod-like construction would suggest, Watchmen are capable of scaling sheer surfaces, including 90-degree walls and even ceilings. There is virtually no terrain (interior or exterior) that they cannot navigate.

Internally, Watchmen are a disgusting mishmash of arcane machinery, repurposed organic matter, and components which defy easy classification into either category. The principles by which they operate are comfortably beyond the understanding of most droidsmiths or engineers, but their purpose is an unpleasantly clear one.

To this end, all models are well-armed, well-protected, and well-equipped in the extreme.

Individual Watchman droids carry a small arsenal within their smooth and alien-looking carapaces, with their primary armament being a Linespinner mounted between their "mandibles". This they use for non-lethal capture purposes, though the droids are intelligent enough to wield these weapons in a variety of creative and unpleasant ways. Watchmen have been observed using the Castellan to interrogate (read: torture) intransigent quarries into compliance, create web structures for cover or traversal, set lethal or nonlethal traps, or simply to block a hallway behind them to halt pursuers.

Other armaments include an unpleasant triple-threat mounting of a Monitor Rifle, a Tenderizer-configuration automatic shotgun, and an Cryo-Arrestor concealed within a seamless hatch on the creature's abdomen. When threatened, the weapon pops out on an articulated armature, ready for use. These weapons are slaved to the Watchman's brain and targeting software, allowing excellent on-the-move accuracy.

Watchman models are armored across their bodies with a combination of Helsteel, Helixium, and Blightsteel. As this composition would suggest, individual models are very rugged, capable of shrugging off the great majority of battle damage across a wide spectrum of weapon types. The Helixium in particular is critical, as it prevents Force-Sensitive individuals from detecting or harming the droid with their abilities.

Damaged Watchmen will typically retreat to safety, allowing the regenerative metals that make up their bodies time to heal. When recovered, they will usually make another, more careful attempt at their mission. Generally speaking, these droids will avoid combat except for the purposes of overpowering their chosen quarry. While powerful, their armaments are ill-suited towards engaging heavy vehicles or large numbers of infantry.

Perhaps the most sophisticated portion of the Watchman is its interior holding cell. The droid's spider-like abdomen is actually partly hollow, and below the concealed weapons mount is a small containment area for the creature's quarry. This is large enough for one creature of typical humanoid size (around 1.6 to 2.2 meters), enabling the Watchman to carry its quarry in relative "comfort".

This pod is equipped with a biomonitoring system, which keeps the prisoner both sedated and alive for as long as possible.

Of course, this holding space can also suffice to transport inanimate objects, should the droid be sent after an item rather than a person. In either instance, cryo-stasis is usually utilized to keep the cargo from being damaged.

Finding the target in the first place is always the greatest challenge, however. To this end, Watchmen are equipped with an omnidirectional sensory suite consisting of Carrion and Aftershock systems, alongside a number of tracker-imbedded shotshells. Utilizing these, a Watchman is capable of isolating the bio-signatures of individual life forms amidst crowds or other forms of sensory distraction.
