DESCRIPTION

More of a tool than a weapon, the Panacea is primarily designed to crack asteroids or planetary bedrock in a precise, controlled manner.

Effectively a highly-refined tractor beam, the Panacea is capable of exerting staggering gravitic force in a very small area. Unusually, this is more often used to push than to pull (at least at first), and creates an invisible "cutting" force capable of carving highly-precise shapes out of tough, ore-rich stone.

Usually found on the Dzara's heavy-duty mining vessels, the Panacea is most commonly arrayed in great numbers along the vessel's underside. When a sub-surface ore deposit is identified and flagged for extraction, the Panacea is most often what does the digging.

The system is fired from orbit, carving away a several-kilometer-wide chunk of dirt and bedrock. The Panacea's polarity is then reversed to create a more traditional "pulling" force, allowing the parent vessel to haul the ore deposit in its entirety from the planet and into orbit, where it can be more easily picked clean.

In theory, the Panacea can be utilized as a weapon, though it is somewhat inefficient in this purpose. It cannot pierce shields to any real capacity, though it can be (and often is) used to carve breaches in already-crippled vessels to allow boarding parties a means of ingress.
