OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Another of Helix's anomalous metals, Kensium was developed for the sole purpose of resisting heat.
Created through the mingling of other such metals within Helix's Otherspace-based research facilities, Kensium shows similarly unnatural properties.
Rather than conduct heat as most metals do, Kensium seems to bleed high temperatures away. A Kensium-alloy object can rest comfortably amidst the roaring heart of a starship engine, withstand flame and plasma for extended periods, and in general fails to respond to heat in violation of all natural laws. It is as though the metal simply refuses to acknowledge the fires around it.
During testing, a sample of raw Kensium was exposed to the inner core of an active Otherplasma reaction for an extended period of time. Remarkably, the material emerged not only unscathed, but cool to the touch and safe to handle.
The greater the temperatures, the more Kensium seems to disperse them, and as such, it is occasionally used in armor, weapons, and starship systems.
In most other respects, Kensium's durability ranges from poor to mediocre. It is not especially resilient against any other form of harm, and is best used as an insulating layer or part of an alloy.
