Katarine Ryiah was born in 57 BBY on Ansion alongside her twin brother, Daxium, to Troy Ryiah and Anastasia Dakrose. Their birth occurred under the rare alignment of twin full moons, drawing the attention of an ancient dark-side cult known as the Mirrorborn, led by the fallen Jedi Lady Sinistra.
When the twins were just two months old, the cult attacked, killing their parents and abducting the infants. Their grandmother, Isaline Ryiah, a former Jedi living in exile, received a Force vision of the tragedy and alerted the Jedi Order. The children were rescued after a terrible time spent with the cult and brought to the Jedi Temple for training.
At ten years old, the cult succeeded in kidnapping the twins for a second time. During this brief captivity, Sinistra began influencing Daxium. The Jedi rescued them again, but the damage was done: Dax internalized the teachings and emotional manipulation Sinistra had planted.
As they grew, their paths diverged. Katarine was calm, disciplined, and deeply empathetic. At thirteen, she was chosen as a Padawan, while Dax was not; his emotional instability led to him being sent to the Jedi Service Corps. He continued training in secret with Sinistra, who posed as a rogue Jedi.
By eighteen, Katarine achieved the rank of Jedi Knight. Around the same time, Sinistra declared Dax a "Knight" in her own doctrine and convinced him the Jedi were corrupt. Dax revealed Sinistra's identity and asked Katarine to join him; she refused. A lightsaber duel followed, and Dax fled with Sinistra into darkness.
Katarine continued on the Jedi path, later taking Mist Mayweather as her Padawan and training her to Knighthood. At twenty-five, Katarine became a Jedi Master.
While undercover, Katarine met James Terran, and the two secretly married. When Dax, working behind the scenes, manipulated Terran into abandoning her, Katarine fell into despair. She traveled to Zeltros, where a Dark Jedi helped her numb her grief by using the mutation in her blood to help her forget Terran. Katarine did not realize that the dark Jedi on Zeltros was secretly a student of Daxium Ryiah.
Mist tracked her former Master down and tried to bring her home, but was killed by Dax's student. Devastated, Katarine withdrew from the galaxy entirely. She sealed herself inside an ancient underwater prison on Naboo and entered self-imposed stasis, where she remained for over 900 years, forgotten by the galaxy and preserved in silence.
During a natural disaster on Naboo her carbonation chamber was ruptured and she was rushed to the hospital in Theed. There she spent over a year battling hibernation sickness. She has now been released from the hospital and is trying to find her place in the galaxy far far away.
