A less than desirable disciplinary record, dubious past and gutteral mannerisms, Kastav was a less than ideal recruit. Growing up on the streets of Axxila after the death of most of his family members he was informally raised by his older brother, Jalter Volff and the two became engrossed in petty crime and working low levels in the underworld. After the older Jalter joined the Sith Empire before defecting to NIO as a starfighter pilot, the younger Volff soon found himself in the Young Patriots College Axxila, preparing for a life in service for the empire where he was noted as being a troublemaker. It was no surprise that when he attempted to join the starfighter corps to fly alongside his brother, he was kicked out after 3 months due to poor conduct.
After being barred from other branches of the military, he transferred to CompForce and was accepted primarily due to his old College's links to the SAGroup. He was noted as being physically fit however his loyalty and patriotism were subpar, with it being suspected that a life on the streets meant he had developed the mindset of putting his own life before anything else. Jalter Volff
over Noris changed the man. His last family member and a man who had raised him from a young age now being deceased caused Kastav to despise the Empire's enemies who he blamed for the death of Jalter. His new found zealousness went as far as him requesting a transfer to the ISB, a request which was eventually accepted.Initially being deployed as a field agent working mainly in counter-insurgency operations as part of a CompForce hit squad, Kastav soon immersed himself in the information side of the ISB, learning the tricks of gathering intelligence and training as an interrogation specialist. Kastav would go on to serve across the Empire, from the Chiss uprisings to attacks by the remnants of the Maw his time in service was marred by conflict that did not always end in victory. While his brother served at the Empires defiant beginnings and at the height of its golden age Kastav would only serve when it was in its twilight days.
Years since the collapse of the Empire Kastav is a shadow of his former self, the collapse of the Empire taking his life as he knew it from him. Yet under the cynicism he remains loyal to the Empire and the Empire alone. He views rising Imperial Warlords and factions as pretenders, little more than enemies or assets to use. At his core he works to uphold the contingencies set out by the ISB at any cost, most notably scuttling information, assassinating individuals that may have defected and assets that could be used by another faction, using mercenary work as a method for funding this goal.

Sneering Imperialist While not as uptight or vocal as others are on the topic of the Imperial Ideology, Kastav pays little attention to other ideals and cultures and is quick to dismiss them of any merit. This is best expressed in his assignments, often being tasked in the subjugation of stubborn worlds or the suppression of dissidents. After the Chiss rebellion Kastav loathes and refuses to work with the Chiss who he sees as one of the species behind the fall of the Empire. 
Silver-Tongued Devil Ever since growing up on the streets of Axxila, Kastav had been known for having a silver-tongue. At first used to get him and his brother out of trouble when it found him, it now has its uses in his role as an interrogation specialist. Breaking a subject down with standard techniques before using honeyed words to get what he needs, which ranges from a forced confession to information on local insurgent groups. 
Commando While he is no special forces soldier, Kastav went through the rigorous ISB training program and it is no doubt that he is a cut above the grunts of the Imperial army and SDF. He is not the easiest of men to fight, with most of his training centered around fighting in asymmetrical warfare. 
Travel Light Kastav having moved around his whole life carries only the essentials with him, preferring to be ready to move at a moments notice. This is expressed even in the equipment he takes into combat, forgoing any heavy equipment often times carrying only a pistol.

The sleek white and black uniform of the ISB was ditched long ago, instead faded strike force combat fatigues are hidden under a large grey cargo overcoat. A slim belt kit hidden underneath the coat holds his AP-25i 'SIMP' Particle Beam Blaster which is kept on his person at all times. When the need arises, a black ISB officer cap is also adorned, usually only when around other Imperial officers and soldiers as to avoid him being mistaken as a civilian. When the need arises, Kastav often has a selection of other weapons to choose from depending on his mission profile. The two he is most usually seen with are LS-1 Angry Owl Light Sniper Rifle and AK-57x Charric Rifle.

Twilight of the Empire 876 ABY - 900 ABY
Ascendancy of Defiance | An Age of Strife Story - The Chiss Rebellion sends the Empire into Chaos and in the midst of the Second Hyperspace War ISB assets are collapsed in to deal with this rapidly growing tumour. Part of an ISB strike teamto knock out the rebels' chief intelligence officer the operation quickly goes awry.
Home of the Brave II - After the failure at the Redoubt Kastav was assigned to internal security deep inside the Empire on worlds where an ISB presence was a token gesture, a real career killer. After a duty shift during celebrations on Galidraan Kastav goes out and mingles with the local population.
Banners of the Fallen I - An Imperial expedition was sent back to the worlds ravaged by the Maw begins work on Noris, Kastav joining for his own personal reasons. Far out amongst the corpses and trenches around Fort Belisarius he finds what he was looking for, the remains of his brother Jalter.
Banners of the Fallen II - The walls slowly begin closing in on the Empire, Nirauan in the heart of the Empire is under siege by raiders made up of remnants of the Brotherhood of the Maw. After days ensuring ISB data centres and offices are purged of sensitive material Kastav takes command of a Compforce squad under orders to delay the raiders for as long as possible.
A New Reality 900 ABY - Present
Oppress the Supressed - In this new age of Imperial Warlords Kastav funds his shadowy goals through mercenary work. Hired to suppress a workers uprising on Aargonar an intervention by a Jedi Master ruins any hope for an easy paycheck.
