- Partially autonomous.
- Requires no hands to use.
- Accepts a variety of specialist munitions.
- No Hands: The Tectus does not require the use of the operator's hands, and is fully integrated into the user's brain to allow effortless, instant operation.
- Beehive: The Tectus' small munition size allows it to carry a wealth of spare rockets.
- Omnidirectional: The Tectus' independent articulation allows it to fire in almost any direction, as well as grant the user an additional "eye" to see in multiple directions at once.
- Bottle Rockets: The system's miniaturized munitions can be lethal, but lack the punch of full-sized rockets.
- 'Eadboom: Having a fully-loaded rocket launcher next to one's head might not be the safest idea...
In essence a miniature rocket pod, the Tectus' apparent simplicity belies its effectiveness on the battlefield.
Under most circumstances, the system is found integrated into the bodies of battle droid infantry, where it is mounted onto the left shoulder and upper back. When not in use, the launcher folds backwards and out of the way, preventing it from hindering their movement or peripheral vision.
The system perches on a small, articulated metal limb, allowing it to swivel at almost any angle to track targets above, below, or behind the user. What's more, the launcher itself mounts a small photoreceptor, feeding visual data back into the user's brain and allowing them to "see" what the launcher sees. This has the pleasant side effect of allowing the operator to look in two directions at once, making them more difficult to catch by surprise.
The Tectus accepts miniature missiles (approximately the size of a human index finger), of which it can carry a great many. These vary widely in function, from simple fragmentation explosives to sophisticated antimatter warheads, ion charges, or even more exotic systems still. These are normally launched singly, but the user can optionally lock onto several targets at once before firing, sending a missile after each. The angle of approach is also toggleable, allowing users to choose a direct ballistic trajectory, an arcing trajectory for indirect fire, or a SAS function to tackle more heavily-armored vehicles.
While the small size of its munitions does somewhat limit its destructive potential, the Tectus does grant every soldier a degree of unmatched tactical flexibility. Tectus-equipped soldiers can threaten massed infantry, air and ground vehicles, or almost any other target imaginable, provided they carry the correct missiles for the task.
Occasionally the Tectus is found mounted on vehicles, but since these larger machines can more easily mount far more potent weapon systems, this is uncommon. More rarely still, it is found mounted to personal armor systems designed for organic use. In the latter instance, the system is somewhat trickier to use, as organic operators cannot quite so effortlessly utilize the system via neural impulse. These users may, if so desired, undergo cybernetic surgery to allow them to utilize the weapon with the same ease that droids do.
