SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Joint Defense Base - Coromon
  • Classification: Army Garrison, Starfighter Base
  • Location: Fresia, Coromon Islands
  • Affiliation: Galactic Alliance Defense Force, Fresia Planetary Security Force,
  • Population: Heavy
  • Demographics:
    • 60% Human
    • 10% B'Trillian
    • 10% Mon Calamari
    • 20% Varied Others
  • Accessibility: Joint Defense Base Coromon isn't difficult to find at all as it is placed in the middle of the Archipelago which has for centuries been home to the primary testing, manufacturing, and administration Complex for Incom-FreiTek. It is however guarded by a GADF Garrison as well as by Fresia's own security forces. Access to the base is strictly controlled, and civilian access is limited to those authorized by the commander of the Garrison and a small amount of vetted Incom-FreiTek working with specific Starfighter Corps programs.
  • Description: Located in the Coromon Islands on the planet of Fresia, JDB-Coromon is the major command center for the GADF's security and starfighter forces on the planet of Fresia, serving primarily to defend the various testing and manufacturing facilities of Incom-Freitek Corporation from any attempted assault or infiltration. It was established to replace the smaller infantry garrison located on Coromon Aure and to host a variety of Starfighter Corps units both to serve as permanent garrison on Fresia as well as serving as special-mission and frontline squadrons.

Command Operations Center
  • Command Operations Center: The brain of the Defense Compound, the Command Operations Center provides not only a position from which the Base Commander can maintain day-to-day operations but also a highly-capable center from which the Group Commander in charge of the defense squadrons can oversee all traffic entering and exiting the controlled airspace surrounding the Incom-FreiTek compound, and oversee resupply and patrol operations.

    Hangar Bays:
Extending a few stories under the island, the Defense Base contains hangar, maintenance, fuel, and armament facilities capable of holding not only the bases' standard defense group of 10 Squadrons, but also the 10 expeditionary and special missions squadrons which call this base their home when not forward-deployed. All in all this base has the facilities to arm, fuel, maintain, and store up to 200 Fighters and 40 Support Craft- Roughly 2 Fighter Groups (and some change)- if required, though it certainly would strain the base's resources, and only about half to two-thirds would be available for daily sorties. Normally only around 144 Fighters and Support Craft, or the Defense Group + an expeditionary squadron and special squadron, are on base at any given time. The top level exits out onto an exterior "flight deck" which provides a convenient place for small freighters and other support craft to land and offload supplies and the like
  • Tycho Celchu Flight Training Center: outfitted with a bank of 50 Holosimulators of various makes of fighter (including perspective enemies), the Tycho Celchu Flight Training Center (or just FTC) is a state of the art training center used for training purposes including certifying pilots for new types, training replacement pilots in squadron-specific tactics and doctrines, maintaining a qualifying amount of flight hours logged each month, and training on specific mission profiles as precursor to special missions. The FTC also includes several classrooms and briefing/debriefing rooms for use in these various training operations.
  • Living Quarters: Located directly under the Flight Training Center are the Living Quarters - which include the medical center (capable of taking around 300 injured at normal capacity (and many more under emergency conditions), a massive barracks dormitory, as well as commissary, latrine, shower, locker, and mess facilities for the military and security personnel on the base. The living quarters, while not large by any measure, are relatively comfortable compared to the facilities on most military starships. Even the enlisted quarters are limited to two people to a room, and there's no hotbunking to be had.
  • Ground Facilities: The floors above the exterior "flight deck," discounting the Operations Center, of Course, are primarily reserved for the armory, training, supply, motor pool, and similar facilities required by the installation's infantry and security forces. The motorpool includes facilities for several repulsorcraft as well as logistics speeder trucks used to supply from the Islands' Spaceport.
  • Reactor and Shield Generator: Underneath the base lies the base's reactors, on par with the power plants of most modern battlecruisers and star destroyers, which are hardwired to the DSS-02 Shield Generator, which projects its shield through the two spires above the base, protecting both the Defense Base and some of Incom's Manufacturing Facilities

SECURITY
Maximum

  • Battalion (~570) sized GADF Garrison and comparable Garrison from Fresia's Security Forces
  • DSS-02 deflector shield capable of withstanding sustained bombardment
  • 11x Dual Turbolaser Turrets, 6x Point Defense Cannons, 2x Surface-to-Air Advanced Concussion Missile launchers
  • 10x Permanent Squadrons (~80-120 Fighters), as well as any expeditionary squadrons not on deployment (~80 fighters maximum) (200 Fighters maximum)

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Fresia has been an important world in the Military-Industrial Complex of Republics and Rebellions sever since the first T-65B X-wings left the assembly line in the dawning of the Galactic Civil War, and with the rise of the Galactic Alliance in the core and their subsequent expansion, this importance hasn't started to wane by any stretch of the imagination, and a permanent garrison to defend the Alliance's interests has always been a necessity, but Fresia's relatively central location in the Alliance always saw it being left with just enough to keep the skies clear. That all changed when the Maw came charging in.

With the Maw's charge punching out of the unknown regions and into the core, and their stations coming well within striking distance of Fresia - as close as Xa Fel and Foerost, it was absolutely necessary that the Alliance fortify this archipelago planet and most importantly do whatever was necessary to secure the Incom-FreiTek complex that was key to the planet's whole inhabitance. The answer to this requirement came in the form of Joint Defense Base Coromon.

Even with advanced construction droids the process of building JDB-Coromon was long and arduous, digging into the rocky island without damaging the structure of the ground below or disrupting the tectonics of the island chain was indeed a difficult task, and delays were added on any time Incom provided new suggestions or requested slight changes to benefit their manufacturing centers. Finally, however once the base was completed it played home to two battalions of ground forces and an entire Fighter Group of Defense Forces - while being the 'official' headquarters for about a group more of special missions and expeditionary squadrons.

Today JDB Coromon stands among the island chain, keeping its long watch over perhaps the moist infamous fighter manufacturer in the Galaxy.
