WAYLAND SYSTEM, WAYLAND
SOME DROPSHIP

@[member="Jared Ovmar"]

"You're going to love this, I promise." Hannibal said, handing Jared a datapad with relevant information plastered on its screen. Despite his newfound occupation, the Fondorian kept his mercenary armor on. Force of habit and whatnot.

Wayland was not a well-publicized planet, but there were a few in the know about it. Zothustro had been poking around in his free time, trying to find any information that could lend a helping hand to their endeavors. What turned out was a lead that would be imperative to the success of Cestus Cybernetics' products. Zothustro would have gone himself, but he was busy ironing out the paperwork and agreements to rent out a factory on Ord Cestus and the distribution center on Celanon.

Instead, Hannibal had teamed up with Fringe Lord Ovmar, who Hannibal had cooperated with before conveniently off-screen. Ovmar had become privy to a lot of the proposed schematics during that time and was looking like a very big potential investor to Zothustro and Hannibal.

"Some prospectors came through here recently, thinking they would dig up something valuable. A hidden vault, precious metals, you know the drill. They apparently didn't find anything too interesting, but when they left they were complaining all over the place of this weird, useless silvery substance they found which, for some odd reason, wasn't actually silver. From how they described it, I've got a feeling what they'd found is a Xylen deposit."

Incidentally, from how deep the prospectors dug and still kept encountering the substance, it was a hellishly large one.

WAYLAND SYSTEM, WAYLAND
SOME DROPSHIP

A long time ago, almost in another life, Jared had been a different man. More of a thug and a criminal than anything else, but even then there was a certain refinement coming from him. A crude business sense that came from street smarts and a desire for easy money, most of them time he had been successful. Because that was the thing with the understreets of Coruscant, if you were not successful you often found yourself in a trash bin collecting flies. But that time was long since past, with his new position in the Fringe he had found some form of liberty. Money was no longer a problem with the huge apparatus of the Confederation behind him. As such he had begun to look in a variety of business ventures, nothing to fancy yet, a bar here, a club there. But this was quickly proving itself to be one of the more important investments he was making.

With a slight tilt he accepted the datapad from Hannibal, they had been working together for some time now and if the Mercenary was anything, he was resourceful. After looking the pad over for a while he gave it back again, it seemed that there had been a couple of idiots who had stumbled onto something useful. But instead of exploiting, they had been too busy with looking for ordinary treasure. As if in the modern society they were living now, riches would be found by looking for a chest of gold. Karking idiots.

"So what's the plan, Oryen?"

@[member="Jared Ovmar"]

"Well, find the damn thing, obviously." Hannibal snickered. "I've got a rough idea of where they were digging, but we'll need to inspect their dig site for ourselves. Verifying that this is the Xylen deposit of my dreams'll also help."

Hannibal cracked his knuckles, anticipating annoyed wildlife or savages he might need to beat up. There was no telling what would be lurking around the place once the prospectors had picked up and scrammed. Whatever the case, once the place was scoped out it'd be a simple manner to set up a mining operation. They'd also need to do some backtracking into history to figure out how to refine the Xylen for use in droid chips. Since the resource had allegedly vanished some centuries ago, replacements had been made, but nothing could quite beat the original deal.

"Probably collect some samples and see how far they dug. If we're lucky, those mooks'll have done most of the work for us."

As it turned out, Hannibal's fondness of the word "mook" was not a ruse comprising a part of his cover mannerisms. He really liked that word.

There was not much more to say really, if they were lucky they would stumble upon the deposits and find out that it was indeed Xylen. In the meanwhile they would have to try and not get eaten by the indigenous wildlife down there, not that he was very concerned about it. Ever since he discovered his Force Powers he had not been in a proper fight anymore. Well except if you would count Anaya, but that woman.. there was a certain pleasure in getting your ass handed to you by a pretty lady. The lightsabre hilt appeared in his hands with practiced ease, casually he began playing with it as he waited for their ride to land.

"Sounds good, homeslice."

He was not sure where that expression came from, but the sound of it appealed to him.

@[member="Jared Ovmar"]

Homeslice? That was good, Hannibal would have to use it some time. He'd write it down later when they were done setting the groundwork for becoming filthy stinking rich. The dropship rocked harmlessly as it entered the atmosphere and began its descent to the planet's surface. Things were never so easy that they would be able to drop right at the abandoned excavation site. In all likelihood, there would be some kind of ludicrous obstruction that would prevent them from landing, so the pilot would abandon them in the middle of nowhere rather than searching for the next best place.

The above is then precisely what happened, the pilot making his excuse before lowering the ship into a small clearing surrounded by Wayland's dense forest. At the very least it wouldn't be a long walk, although they would have to come back in order to get picked up again. Hannibal liked to imagine that, in time, this forest would be bulldozed and whatever obstruction blocking the excavation site incinerated. That was a fantasy for another day.

"Alllllrighty then." Hannibal chirped, grabbing his LMG, sliding open the door of the dropship, and hopping out to the ground just a few feet below them.

That moment when your life becomes a glorified trope. Really it is a humbling experience when you realize that your life starts to resemble all those holomovies you have been watching when you were a little kid. Not that Jared would comment on such things, sadly he was not really that genre-savvy. Instead he just followed his companion out of the door without complaint, jumping out of the ship would be the easy part. "I have a bad feeling about this.." He did not even think about the fact that he just invoked an almighty and ancient rule of storytelling. Never ever ever ever use that sentence if you want to have a peaceful journey.

With a flourish his sabre hilt appeared in his hand, at least he was ready for trouble. Well except if it was going to be a big Rancor, he probably was not ready for that.

"Yeah, well, it'll pass." Hannibal replied, checking their location on a small, holo-projected map. "Have a little optimism, pal."

Hannibal had almost forgotten how liberating it was to talk like an actual person and not a mafia ringleader out of a children's cartoon. Who else in the Galaxy had to put up with such a ridiculous cover? Hannibal reckoned he could count them on his hand. He snapped off the projector, now knowing exactly where he needed to start walking. It was about half-a-mile from here, so they shouldn't take terribly long. Unless they were assaulted by indigenous fauna or the odd tribesperson. Maybe that was what accounted for Ovmar's bad feeling.

In hindsight, Force Users getting bad feelings should have been a warning sign. Still, Hannibal had a giant machine gun and Ovmar had a lightsaber. They were practically invincible.

"Let's get going. Shouldn't take us too long to get there."

With that, Hannibal started off in the direction of the former excavation site.

There was one thing Jared knew for sure ever since he joined this crazy world of Stars and Wars, the fact that one always has to trust his gut. Especially when being meta. Because when someone goes meta you know he is taking.. things serious. So it did not come as a surprise that the moment Jared wished to say something there was a sudden bang.

Though you should not mistake it with a bang made by explosive or anything as silly as that, no.. it was in fact the bang of a creature stamping his legs on the ground. Almost as if it was ready for some kind of.. cavalry strike? Jared was not sure what they were up against, he was too busy getting flashbacks of his very short life. There was also the matter of a full bladder, though that could wait for a while.

"Okay, I think I need to go take a piss. Let us kill that beast and get it over with. Also.. I know it is not the time for "I told you so's" but.. yeah."

@[member="Hannibal Oryen"]

@[member="Jared Ovmar"]

Hannibal heard a distinct thumping sound after the dropship took to the skies and abandoned them there. Something akin to a beast of gargantuan proportions marching through the woods. That was a stupid assumption, though. The chances of a beast of such proportions happening upon them was at least a million to one. However, unbeknownst to Hannibal, a million to one chance in stories is almost always a sure thing.

It wasn't until the armored Rancor parted the trees surrounding the clearing and stuck its big, ugly maw through that Hannibal took what was transpiring seriously.

"Yeah. Kill it. How about..."

Hannibal turned around, uncaring of the direction, and started to run. Did Wayland even have native Rancors? What the hell was one doing out here? Why did it have armor? These things did not matter to the Fondorian at present. What mattered to the Fondorian was how fast his legs would carry him and if Ovmar was smart enough to catch on to his ingenious plan. Ingenious plan here meaning cheese it.

"Really.. we are running? I CAN SHOOT FETHING LIGHTNI--" the last part was cut short, as he noticed that karking beast had -armor- on. Who in the seven names of hell decided to give a Rancor Armor? Instead of trying to coax the answer out of the beast he.. started running. The Force helped him to bridge the distance between the Bounty Hunter and himself.

"Not a word."

They would have to figure out how to kill the thing though. For one, it stood precisely between them and the deposit. But besides that, you cannot mount a proper mining operation with a Rancor running loose.

Speed and distance were the only things on Hannibal's mind even after Ovmar had caught up with him. There was only so much that could occupy a man's thoughts as he was being chased down by an armored war beast. The Fondorian didn't exactly have time to check, but he was certain they were now running towards the mine. The undergrowth and trees got thicker and thicker as the two Fringers scrambled to get away from the Rancor. So thick that it eventually prevented the beast from giving fast enough chase to be a threat. The sound of heavy, thumping footsteps and breaking trees eventually faded and subsidied.

Not everyone was a magical space wizard, so Hannibal was a little winded after that brief chase sequence. "I... I think we lost it."

The Rancor was a big problem. Both in the literal and figurative sense. There wasn't really much way for two measly humanoids to handle the beast, though. Perhaps if they could bring back reinforcements... Another time. For now, it would be most prudent to just continue on to the digsite. And probably have that pilot find another landing zone if they didn't want to run into that godforsaken Rancor again.

"Alrighty then, I think we'll continue heading... This way. Yeah."

He was just about to say something witty, when he -again- got a bad feeling. "I know you do not want to hear this.. but remember that bad feeling I got just two minutes ago? Well.. it is--" he got cut off right then, as another sound came out of nowhere. It was somewhere in front of them..

You would think that after an Armored Rancor the Force would give them a break, not so much sadly. Because it was just then that an armored Krayt Dragon stormed out of the forest's clearing. Where the hell did a Rancor and a Krayt Dragon come from, who gave them armor and.. why. Those where all important questions, but sadly none of them were on Jared's mind right then.

North and South were both off limits for now, as such Jared skidded to a halt and then ran off towards the West.

"Come on. We need some breathing room, before we decide how to deal with those karkers."

He really hoped there would not be some -other- armored beast running around.

@[member="Jared Ovmar"]

Oh, come on!

Krayt Dragons? Seriously? This planet was so goddamn far from Tatooine that it didn't even make sense! Who brought a Krayt Dragon to Wayland!? Why were these things wearing armor!? Hannibal was now determined to get to the bottom of this thing now. First, he would kill these mooks. Then he would track down whoever had brought them here and kill them. Then he would find out who manufactured the armor and kill them. Then he would find out who supplied the materials for that armor and kill them so hard that they died. In the face. This was some serious negative mojo and it was putting a dampener on Hannibal's day.

But before he could start drawing up plans to killing Rancors, Krayt Dragons, and other associated personnel, he had to avoid death's icy embrace himself. He took off after Jared. The Krayt Dragon swatted aside trees and the like as it took off after the duo. It seemed to not have as many problems with storming through thick forest as the Rancor, but Hannibal and Jared were still faster. That was, until they got cornered when they ran into a steep cliff wall.

Maybe leaving his jetpack back on the ship wasn't such a hot idea after all.

"That isn't good. That isn't good. Ooooh no. No, no, no..." Hannibal muttered to himself, analyzing the steep, featureless wall. The Krayt Dragon continued to kick up a storm behind them, drawing noisily closer...

The moment they hit a very visible wall, Jared got annoyed. It really seemed as if they were in some kind of comedy show, where the creators are spawning random obstacles for the protagonists to defeat. Even the fact that said obstacles did not belong in the scenery, indicated that it was a horrible show with not a lot of originality. A Krayt Dragon in armor? An armored Rancor? -Together- in one threa-- planet? That is sorcery or some kind of galactic conspiracy. Maybe both.

A rumble came out of the jungle, they would soon be upon them.

bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam [SIZE=34.54545211791992px]B[/SIZE]AM [SIZE=37.272727966308594px]B[/SIZE][SIZE=28pt]AM.[/SIZE]

The bigger the letters became, the louder the noise and the closer the beasts were. Some people would call the capitalized bold letters intimidating, then again. Jared could not count on that, because he in fact did not -see- the letters. Neither was he aware of the sensitivity of certain individuals.

"Well.. it's your show, bro. What do you want to do?"

@[member="Hannibal Oryen"]

@[member="Jared Ovmar"]

"What do you mean, what do I want to do? We're cornered!" Hannibal snapped at Ovmar.

From his position, this seemed like a twenty-four karat case of bad luck. The truth was, however, was that this threa- uh, game had been rigged from the start. There wasn't much for the duo left to do except make their stand and fight the impending Krayt Dragon. Hannibal leveled his LMG at where he imagined the Krayt Dragon would break on through to the other side. Within moments, it was upon them. The tremendous beast burst into the clearing, roaring bloody murder at the two Fringemen. Hannibal depressed the trigger of his weapon. Bullets spewed out of the weapon, straight into the open maw of the Krayt Dragon...

...And passed through it harmlessly.

What?

Unphased by the spray of slugs, the illusory Krayt Dragon stomped right on. Inevitably it reached Hannibal, phasing straight through the Fondorian and vanishing into the cliff face entirely. It was an illusion. A joke. Of course it was an illusion. How else would a Krayt Dragon be here? This was space magic, and Hannibal intended to make sure that this particular space mage got a bunch of fist-shaped indents in his face once he found him.

"You've got to be fethin' kidding me." Hannibal snarled. He ejected the spent drum, jamming a new one in. "Someone's frakkin' with us. Let's go find that goddamn excavation site."

Shaken from his near-death-but-not-really experience, Hannibal pressed back into the undergrowth and made his way towards the excavation site.
