Outskirts of the Nightmare Lands
Voss

Opting to test not just their mental ability but also their physical, Connor Harrison, Knight of the Silver Jedi, led the willing Padawans on their lengthy trek by foot. Of course a transport would be easier and quicker, but that would detract the point of the whole quest; to seek out a lightsaber crystal from the caves located within the Nightmare Lands and construct their own blade; their own weapon to use against the forces of evil. A weapon they would call their own.

It had been a good 2 day trek towards their destination west of the Silver Jedi temple on Voss, but it had been paced with meditation, exercise and quiet leisure time. Now the morning sun broke above the horizon signalling a new day ahead and one that heralded their arrival to their destination. Connor would allow the campsite to stay erected for their journey through the Nightmare Lands and call for a transport back to the Temple itself; they would need the rest and their items would be retrieved by the scouts.

Standing by his navy blue tent, Connor wrapped his arms around his black greatcoat, an unusual piece of clothing for a Knight to wear, but as Connor had been introduced to the Silver Jedi as something of a rogue and had been accepted as one, his status and unique style had never been disputed since. He could see the dense forest looming ahead down below from the clearing where they had pitched up camp, atop a large hill. It would take a good hour or so to reach the outskirts of the Nightmare Lands and then…well; time wouldn’t be a factor once they ventured further in.

Turning to see the Padawans who had volunteered to accompany him, Connor smiled at how they were busying themselves around each other, sharing expectations over eating breakfast, all seemingly ready to take the step forward in the Order with this quest, each one facing untold personal goals to accomplish and their own questions to find answers to. The presence of Jedi Master [member="Xander Carrick"] was a welcome one; it would benefit Connor, only just a Knight, to have that experience on hand just in case his first solo mission hit any REAL danger, but also to share the adventure with another he knew so well.

Hopefully he wouldn't need him too much and he could prove himself to the Order.

”Ok, listen up everyone.” Connor waited for silence. Only the faint crack of the dying fire before them made a noise. Not even the wildlife it seemed were awake at this hour.

”A Padawan you each may be, but this quest into the Nightmare Lands will test your resolve, your state of mind and your sheer determination to progress through the Order to become, one day, a Master. It will be a tricky journey, don’t get me wrong, but what happens today will be a crucial step forward for all.”

Connor unhooked his lightsaber hilt form his belt and held it before him.

”This weapon is your life. It will defend yours and, regrettably, take others. But it is an extension of your devotion to the Silver Jedi in seeking out darkness and being that beacon of light to cut through it. Once you have constructed your lightsaber, you too will be serving the light to battle the dark forces out there.”

Without looking, he clipped it back to his belt and offered a reassuring smile.

”The Nightmare Lands are a good way ahead. The Crystal Cave is deep within. Anything you don’t need, you leave here. The most important tool you need really is your mind and your awareness of the Force around you. Now, does anyone have any questions before we head out, anything about where we are going or what your goal is?”

Shalla was enjoying this time away from their Master at the temple at less herself. As she busy with getting her own things packed up. Hour or so before she had went off by herself for her morning meditation. It was the way she always started out the day so she could clear her mind be open to the teaching around her. Even when there was nothing to learn.

Having to kick at the bottom of her Sister Shiva feet to wake her up. She never was one to get up early knowing there was already inludeding Knight and Master that was on this trip having to apologize for her behavior trying to feel there behinds. Shaking off these things from her mind, today was a bright new day right. Having to slap the back of Shiva head to get her to listen.
"Listen up Knight Connor is saying something important.", as she looked at her with her dark eyes with a gentle smile upon her lips. [member="Connor Harrison"]

What was it was all this nature stuff all these other stuff. Why could they just go get their crystal and be done with it. After all she would like to be back with her master anyways. At less he had some to keep her warm at night. Not really carrying for this roughing it. There was her sister watchful eyes that she would behavior would be in line. As her mind seem to wonder off a lot as she was in her own little world after all.

"Ouch that hurt Shalla", giving her one of her face. As if she wasn't going to listen to the leader of this mission to get there light saber crystals in her mind she was going to pick at less a half a dozen or so. At less that what she thought in her own mind. [member="Connor Harrison"][member="Shalla Horizonis"]

"Yea, One question when are we going to be able to have real beds and some real food to eat then this stuff.", as she looked over at her sister and the face that told her to shut her mouth while she was a head. Seeing nothing wrong with what she was asking was there or had she let her mind wonder off and miss something important information.

Matsu stood there in a serene look, the knight speaking was giving the usual. Somethign she had heard before and understood, these journey's were usually frought with some sort of danger. They needed it to be meaningful, to be remembered and walking with the group for the trek had her in a kimono with robes over it. She had her normal blade the silver hilt with white blade that burned with a solari crstal. A small grin on her face now while she walked and set her hands into her pockets. The trip there would be something to see and she did wonder about the planet. Thankfully the vanguard with the artifacts were safe, secured using what she had spent her time going around the galaxy to relearn.

The twins asked very good questions that she fought for a moment to answer, she was a padawan within the order here no longer a master but she had her knowledge. She had her skills and training even without the force energies or connection to fully execute it. So she just gave a smile for them. Her head bowing is acknowledgement and she checked herself turning her head to the jedi knights swiftly. "A good question if a little youthful."

Ugh I felt... naked.

For the past few months I had grown used to wearing my armor. Looking like old ideals of Xesh a Forcehound in the Rakatan Empire. He later became part of the Je'daii. Later they formed into the Jedi. A Faction that I had joined with, only to help in the creation of the Silver Jedi. While I came later on after the initial creation, I know that I defended their rights and views many times over now. Others have done the same, but one that I almost constantly saw improving was that of [member="Connor Harrison"]. Being a little bit of a Rogue, he was not quite the full Jedi type. Making him think differently. But it was not bad, in fact it was good. He brought a new aspect to thinking. One that could probably be needed later on for the Padawans.

So far over the past few days, Connor has done a good job. He holds the authority keys well. Able to grab their attention, and keep it. I was not taking the main stage. Standing off to the side of [member="Matsu Ike"], Her whisper of a good question. If it was sarcasm or genuine, I had no clue. The only thing I wanted to do was start to chew out the young woman for asking about a bed and food. I thought when she signed up for this and being a Jedi she would kind of expect to be in places without food or beds, but that was just me. I was used to it because I had lived that way for a long time. I moved my hands to adjust my robes. Letting the left arm sleeve be taken off and put to hang on my belt like a sash. It was slightly warm, but not quite hot. Perfect weather.

Wait what? Oh yeah I need to pay attention to Connor.

Well at least everyone was up and about and ready to go, besides the questions. It was one of the twins, the opinionated [member="Shiva Horizonis"] who spoke first, much as he had expected. Connor had crossed paths with her before and safe to say she was a handful. Passionate and eager, but a handful.

He caught the eye of [member="Matsu Ike"] as he started to answer, offering a little shrug as he did.

"Real food? Real beds? What does that feel like? If you find any, let me know and I will happily take it to the Masters for approval, Padawan Horizonis." A wry smile crossed his face.

It was true their food and shelter wasn't the best, but it was all that could be offered at this stage. It was a matter of survival out from the Temple, and this wasn't supposed to be a luxury break.

"Any thing else?"

Eyes spanning the camp, there didn't seem to be anything, so he inhaled and clasped his hands.

"Grab you gear. We move out in 5 minutes. No formation, we just stick together. Out here, we are all as important as each other to make it through in one piece."

He gave a nod of the head. 5 minutes.

Shalla had already been ready to move out after she had came back after her meditation. Walking slowly up to where [member="Connor Harrison"] had his tent place last night. In her soft spoken voice "I must say I'm sorry for my sister I will try harder to keep her under control as I know you have a lot more to be concern about on this mission beside having to keep an eye on Shiva.", placing a hand on his shouler and looked up with her own eyes with her own way of saying she would take on this every ending task. Already knowing how much of a big chore. Looking after her all her life getting them out of one trouble then the next. Waiting for him to speak before she would go back to make sure her sister had gotten everything packed and right with the next part of their journey.

"Master [member="Xander Carrick"], I hope that you slept well." as she once again bow in that most respectfulness she had upon those that had more experience then her but also knowing they was her superiors.

The warrior-poet sat upon a rock near the outer edge of the little Silver Jedi encampment. The surface of it was fairly smooth, allowing Kenshi to comfortable meditate upon the day's trek and what was soon to come. With hands resting upon his knees, palms facing skywards, the man took in even breaths as he became one with the Force. He felt each and every tiny twinge of the Force move, much like tiny rodents scampering across the fields or the birds fluttering their wings high in the winds above. It was peaceful, it felt good.

The swordsman's eyes remained closed as [member="Connor Harrison"] began giving the details of their mission into the depths of the Nightmare Lands and into the caverns where their lightsaber crystals resided. Kenshi had to admit, the Nightmare Lands didn't seem like such a peaceful and free place and half expected many darker spirits and forces to be at work there. The man exhaled a deep breath of air, easing his eyes open and resting a hand upon the hilt of the sword upon his hip.

He rose from his spot, loosening his muscles as he did so. "I am ready to embark upon our journey."

The young Twi'lek sat within the humble temporary abode. The tent was pitched into a triangular formation with the cloth dyed of a brilliant spectrum of varying purples. Within the tent was a simple sight. The ground was mere grass with a thick wooly blanket as a bed. There were few other possessions in the vicinity; a cup and some rations. The blue-skinned Padawan had been in meditation, but dark thoughts clouded his mind. They penetrated the very core of his being, threatening to stir him. He pushed back the darkness, stealing himself away as he reeled himself out of his reflection. Alert eyes swept the room, retrieving pieces of leather, string and a rodents skull. He slid these objects in his pocket.

Jora poked his head out of the tent flap, stepping into the chill. He gathered his cloak around him, reciting to himself, "I wear my robe so that I am warm. If the Force wants me to have more, it finds a way of letting me know." He watched the twins converse with the Knight, and Jora realised just how out of place he was from these people. He didn't belong here. He didn't belong in this time, but there was no going back for him. The passage of time always flows forward, one can never swim upstream, but only follow the rushing currents downstream. He would make do. He made no remark, nor did he judge the twin at the comment of real beds and real food. Yet there was a piece of him that recalled memories of trekking through Felucia with the 182nd. Jora and the 182nd had been isolated and unheard of from a month as they suffered flesh-eating bacteria, hostile Acklays and hazardous terrain. Felucia was a living hell. He had a feeling that in comparison, this would only be a Nightmare.

They were given five minutes before leaving. Jora didn't need anymore time to assemble his things. He would take this spiritual journey only with the clothes on his back. His hand drifted to a pocket, curling around the rodent skull. He knew not what to think of it. His Master had taught him greatly in what it mean't to enjoy living in the moment than what is permanent. For this, Jora had found it easier to mourn the death of Veron Lovi, his Master who had not survived cryogenic sleep. Veron had been a Chadra-Fan, a rodent-like species. The Twi'lek clenched his fist around the skull in his pocket. He had taken the peculiar object from the lightsaber of his Master upon the discovery he had perished. Many Chadra-Fan tended to keep such ornaments as that of skulls of creatures. When Jora completes his newly constructed lightsaber he would adorn the hilt with the skull of the rodent. In this, his Master would always be with him as his protector.

"Ok everyone, let's move out."

Everyone seemed to be ready, eager to continue the final stage of their quest to find the cavern within the Nightmare Lands and take a step forward within the Order. Connor gave those before him a satisfactory nod and began the walk down the gently hills, leading to their final destination.

He could hear small chit-chat behind him which he didn't mind at all; this wasn't a "lesson" so to speak, and he wasn't a "teacher", he was simply one who had been entrusted to protect and care for the Padawans following him. Connor had made it clear that he would be a guide, but not a leader, and a protector, not a fighter. This was a test for them all to show self-belief and self-confidence in making decisions, right or wrong, but decisions that would shape and mould them as a Jedi and a person.

It wasn't his place to dictate or teach them how to make the journey and how to approach the Nightmare Lands, but it was his place to be a reassuring prescence and Knight for them to had confidence in.

The sun was now rising steadily above the planet and thankfully it looked to be a nice day ahead for them. A warmth began to coat them all from the rays beating down, and the nature around them started to come to life. Connor maintained his eyes on the Nightmare Lands in the distance and couldn't help notice the black shadow of darkness and corruption creeping around the skeletal trees and tainting the river that ran though it.

As he walked, Connor turned to keep a check on those behind him and spoke up.

"Remember, this is not just a lesson, but a crucial path forward for you all. Don't be afraid to speak up with any doubts or reservations you have. You all will shape your own destiny today and we will approach this task as one to acheive our goal. But, also, be sure to enjoy this day; relish the Force you feel around you and the time spent with your fellow Padawans. They are your family; keep an eye on them and use them as your strength to go forward."

Matsu stood ready to meet the Sun in the morning as she breathed in and out with a smile, her limbs stretching and popping while the morning light let her relax. They were heading out now and she turned around grabbing her gear and hat. Sliding it on while she slipped her hands into her pockets and walked giving a small smile. The twins and the others here would be good traveling companions, she'd have to remember all of this when it came time to give her recommendations or wisdom to Aika. The former student now talented and skilled while her old master was enfeebled and trying to find something to stand for aside from just protecting the light. "I am ready to go." She looked at [member="Connor Harrison"] as he started off and spoke.

Once more, I liked the way that Connor was teaching. I did just about the same to the students that I had taught. Letting them try it out themselves and to mess up, so that they may learn. Let them ask questions and learn from their own mistakes so that later on when they were a Master, they would not have to rely on other people to get what is needed to be done. Harrison wanted them to ask questions, lean on each other as a group to accomplish something that only few Jedi could do considering the circumstances of a War. Walking behind the group to make sure that everybody would keep ahead of me, I stayed silent except for one of the twins talking to me.

"Sleep? Yes. I slept fine. However, the lot of you need to learn how to work with a lack of sleep soon. Or you will pay dearly for not being prepared." it was true words. Not meant to scare her, but as to prepare her before being prepared. I almost laughed at myself as that was sort of a word paradox. Either way, I walked forward as the gear that was there would be picked up by the scouts. I left a note on my own items that asked for them to be cleaned, as well as the other's items. As to give more time for the apprentices to learn, instead of worrying over if their clothes were adequately cleaned. As the group started to move, I leaned down and grabbed the shaft of my hammer. Walking after them with the thuds of my boots.

Always listening after they was on this mission to find their crystal which would lead to making their saber. Looking forward to this very much not so much for her sister after all she could see her stabbing some one or herself. Could she even hand one long enough to train with one in her hand not thinking it was play time with some of these masters. After all there was a lot of her to learn from each one that had been ask upon this trip most of them was new faces. How every she would keep her sister from doing anything stupid.

Master [member="Xander Carrick"] those are wise words I know some will not see it your way", as she walked seem like for every keeping her sister in site after all they didn't call these the bad land for no reason at all.

Matsu looked at Xander as he spoke and she just stood there raising an eyebrow under her hat. The clothing was decently sized so she was petite and very focused. With a look though at her she had to admit to a few things, one was that she knew how to operate on limited to no sleep but you didn't teach padawans that often. Some did and some didn't they would have to best learn it on their own and she was laughing to herself. "A wise lesson but we should continue, working on no sleep means your busy not standing around and discussing. That is the trick of it."
