Landmark NameItaku Forest
ClassificationForest
LocationShri-tal
AffiliationIndependent / Unclaimed (Protected by the Atrisian Markers)
SizeLarge (Regional size, encompassing a significant portion of the mountain foothills and valley).
PopulationSparse
DemographicsThe forest floor sees occasional indigenous wildlife and predatory creatures. The sparse humanoid population consists mostly of the descendants of The Village inhabitants, as well as transient explorers, cultists, and unfortunate squatters who remain unaware of the forest's true nature.
AccessibilityIsolated and Difficult. It is located deep within the Mountains of Shri-Ta, far from established settlements. The entire region is perpetually shrouded in a thick, unsettling fog, making navigation difficult even with sophisticated sensor technology.
DescriptionA perpetually cold, damp, and fog-choked forest region nestled in the shadow of the mountains. The canopy is dense, allowing little light to penetrate, leaving the ground in deep shadow, choked with gnarled roots and obscured vines. The forest is known to be an active Dark Side Nexus, bound to an ancient, powerful shrine at its center. Its most infamous inhabitants are the Don-Gai visual and auditory wraiths, the tormented spirits of cultists and their victims, which haunt the forest and cling to life at the altar, perpetually trapped within the boundary of the Atrisian Markers.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Heaven's Shrine: The true, dark heart of the forest. This is the ancient shrine and alter, now overgrown and buried beneath a lagoon in the western region, near the river fork. It consists of a large, sunken chamber containing a golden alter that actively resonates with potent Dark Side energies. This alter is the prison and source of power for the trapped souls, feeding the Don-Gai and sustaining the Nexus. It is the focal point of the supernatural activity and is heavily guarded by the most violent wraiths.
  • The Village: The sole surviving village built within the forest. It is ancient and visibly falling into disrepair. The current inhabitants are the descendants of the original villagers who fought the cultists. The village is protected by a secondary, less-impressive ring of Atrisian Markers intended to keep the wraiths out and allow the community to safely search for a way to put the spirits to rest.
  • The Northern Light: The only consistently open region of the forest where the canopy thins and the fog is less oppressive. Sunlight occasionally streams through, casting a golden light onto the forest floor. This rare influx of light creates a brief area of relative calm and attracts natural fauna, making it an occasional temporary respite though its borders remain dangerous.
  • The Ruins:Scattered throughout the eastern and southern regions are the remains of several abandoned development projects. These include:
    • The Resort: An attempt at a luxury getaway, abandoned after mysterious and horrifying incidents.
    • The Amusement Park: Built on the forest's edge, it was initially a tourist draw due to "hauntings," which swiftly turned into mass casualty events.
    • The Orphanage: A later, ill-fated attempt to settle the region, which was overwhelmed by the Don-Gai after a Force-sensitive child was brought in, resulting in a sudden, violent loss of contact. All these sites serve as dangerous, isolated caches of technology, supplies, and lingering despair.
  • Southern Caves and Mountain Alcoves: Closer to the large mountain, this area is perpetually in the shadows. It is riddled with natural caves and rock formations. The thick roots of the massive trees intertwine with the cave entrances. Several of the forest's main Atrisian Markers are subtly built into small, hidden alcoves along the mountain's face.
History: Not much is officially known about what happened in the forest or what made it so dangers but the first initial reports of sightings came near one hundred years after a darkside cult arrived within the forest itself. Before them there had been the normal people in the woods claiming spirits. Notably near areas where crystals had formed that resonated with the force. Strange feelings and this attracted other species and people.

One group was worshipers of the darkside and they stole children away from the village within the forest. Eventually the villagers figured it out and tracked them down dispensing justice for their lost children the only way they knew how. They burned the cultists within the temples they had made and left it all buried in the forest. Their memories and their thoughts going to the children who were lost and killed but they needed to move on.

Nearly a century past with the temples ruins being said to have dangerous and dark feelings around it. Force beings saying that the area had been corrupted with something dark and tainted. As things started to happen afterwards the descendants of the villagers started being attacked by things in the woods. Their elders working with the ancient jedi in the twilight sepulcher to create the barrier markers that would contain the forest creatures.

A second set was made around the village to protect it from what was in the forest and coming from the temple. It was not as impressive but the ancient markers could and would hopefully withstand the test of time containing the spirits so that the villagers could look to find a way they could put their loved ones to rest. As the village continued to live and then was attacked it brought about the abandonment of the surrounding area.

The valley, mountains and area all over proved a danger for others and eventually the people left the area. Leaving it abandoned where just a number of people knew. Real estate was cheap and development projects were there to try and cultivate the region once again but they were within the forest for its beauty and area. They kept a number of things there which led to dangerous outcomes resulting in them being abandoned.

Eventually the jedi came to the world and they worked to rebuild the area outside the forest. The village, the palace, the different things that they had all set up. The new jedi didn't know what was going on within the forest but they prepared different expeditions. Inspired by the works that were going on around the area another company worked to build an orphanage within the forest. The results of the endeavor was not good.

The orphanage lost contact with the others around it, something happening on the comlink that was there but there was a problem and a jedi team nearby that could go and investigate. What they found was what might have been at the others and what had happened to them in the different areas of the forest itself. THe Don-Gai came after the people there in time when one of them was brought in and force sensitive.

What happened:

The darkside cult used the children as innocent blood in arcane alchemical rituals to work and try to summon other darksiders to the planet. As they failed the alter itself was used to bind the souls of their victims so that it would have power and allow them to survive after death. Which they did, they became wraiths able to remain conscious and haunt the forest as well as the world until they realized something else had survived.

The souls of their vicitims they had bound to the alter to make it strong and ccontain them were alive as well and they fed off of the cultists. Getting revenge on them in death where they couldn't in life. Over time their frustration drove them to anger and madness as they started taking vengeance out on others they found. other force users who came into the forest and in their own village.
