ISI/ERS: "Environmental Resilience System." A cost-effective system which incorporated hexaplast, environmental shielding technology, and a rust inhibitor. This system was designed to increase longevity and reduce typical environmental wear-and-tear - even in the face of extreme weather conditions.
ISI/SLA: "Standardized Layered Armor." A system of modular armor plates composed of laser-reflective hexalloy over a layer of quantum fiber. This system was highly effective at absorbing both the energy and kinetic impact of blaster bolts. These plates were easily repaired and replaced after sustaining damage.
ISI/HSS: "Hydraulic Servoprocessor System." A complex system of hydraulic servoprocessors coordinated by a gyroscopic stabilizer. It enabled the Centurion a high degree of strength, coordination, and responsiveness, but was slightly more expensive than similar systems.
ISI/CILP: "Cold Iron Learning Package." A highly adaptive programming package produced by Iron Sun Industrial. The version utilized by the Centurion was a library assembled from the tactics and training of the New Imperial Stormtrooper Corps, as well as carefully curated flash-memories from veteran stormtroopers.

[ + ] Less is More: The Centurion possessed all the accoutrements necessary to make it a reliable, inexpensive combat droid. It exhibits high strength, durability, adaptability, and accuracy without a need for expensive components or rare materials.
[ + ] Set and Forget: The Centurion was capable of longer periods of activity without recharge or maintenance than competing models. It could also endure a much broader range of extreme planetary conditions without a decrease in efficacy.
[ - ] A Mile Away: The Centurion's heavy footfalls and large profile ensured two things: that it was a large target, and that it was incapable of taking enemies by surprise. Only those with severe sensory impediments could fail to detect a Centurion's approach.
[ - ] One Size: The Centurion was designed to face common enemies and pacify civilian populations. It would often struggle against veteran combatants, Force Users, and advanced weaponry.

The Imperial Combat Droid Mk. I, also known as the Centurion-series, was the first battle droid released by Iron Sun Intelligence. Antipater, the company's founder, designed the droid with three guiding principles:
Versatile: The Centurion needed to be able to function in any environment, even under extreme conditions, and with a reduced need for maintenance.
Inexpensive: The Centurion needed to be built without expensive or exotic materials to control costs and increase production speed.
Effective: Most importantly, the Centurion had to be reliable in a wide range of combat scenarios – at least as much as any Imperial Stormtrooper.
The Centurion was fundamentally a one-size-fits-all solution to the problem of enforcing peace, security, and order on civilian populations. Their equipment was designed to counter lightly trained, moderately armored infantry. Against exotic weaponry or veteran combatants, Centurion relied on numbers, defensive posturing, or more specialized support units.
In this regard, their role was much the same as the stormtroopers of the first Galactic Empire. Indeed, the programming suite utilized by Centurions was adopted from the harvested "lived experiences" of New Imperial Stormtroopers, as well as their tactics and training regimens.
Advertisements distributed by Iron Sun Intelligence implied that it was veterans of the elite 501st Legion, led by the famed Irveric Lyonel Tavlar, that provided their memories to the Centurion's programming suite. This obscure marketing technique was known as "lying."
The lie was pervasive enough that Centurions which developed emergent "personalities" would discourse at length - and with great personal gravity - on the hardships they endured while serving with the 501st. The particular engagements they referenced were uniformly fabrications, and their reflections on the character of Tavlar were erroneous and contradictory.
Any misadventures or malfunctions which resulted from the present emergent "personality" were not covered by Iron Sun Intelligence's warranty agreements. Customers were advised to memory-wipe their combat droids with regularity.
