Introduction Of Padawans Numbers, Yag'dril, Blake & The Bear

She was starring at her master there but there was risks... then the little girl was on the ground and running towards a pillar as the master was speaking about hesitation in battle when she had fought and was trained to fight nasty things not humans. Human's were frail compared and most would pop with a small squeeze from her body. There was the creatures that her species fought in the tunnels and caves of her world.... then she looked towards the girl behind the pillar and spoke moving over towards her as she spoke low and watching her. Then speaking as she looked over her shoulder and was searching with her tail for a support she could use to move around in the room instead of trying to not slam into others on the ground. "Come on now, can't be so timid."

Numbers would charge him, and he waited patiently, just awaiting her first blow. Just like that though, it was as though he wasn't in the spot she had struck, but was just a bit backwards almost as though he hadn't moved. Force Speed had aided him...

CRACK!

The Jedi Master's elbow struck the forehead, sending Numbers back. He didn't hit hard, but certainly struck to knock her back. When Numbers would decide to flee, he would let out a sigh. There was a reason for this lesson, but it was clear he was going to have a hard time with this pack of them. He would allow for Yag'dril to check on her as he noted [member="Calder Icehammer"] walking the hallway past them.

"Hey! Icehammer! You were assigned here!" He would call to the Padawan who was late. "Come on in, I was just giving a demonstration. I want you to come at me either unarmed or with a melee weapon!" He would add, motioning for the bear to attack him. "You as well, whenever you're ready Numbers, Yag'dril. I'll take on all three or four of you, no skin off my arse." He added, before turning to motion toward the Padawan who had been watching this from the sidelines in the form of [member="Kaden Blake"] who Josh had been hesitant to call into the fray before, due to his... Condition.

Taking a breath, he would relax himself as he would begin signing a few things toward him. He'd begun learning it for a friend years ago, but had stopped his lessons when they passed on. He picked them up a few weeks ago when he'd found out a deaf student would be assigned to him, so hopefully he'd be okay with this...

Josh made a few signs toward Kaden, indicating for him to face him in unarmed combat, ending it by beckoning him with a finger.

"You have to follow your own path."
These Jedi are a curious Order... Kaden thought as he watched the training exercise go on unmolested. The young Echani found confusion in the way the master had begun his training session. Kaden made no attempt to join in, finding no reason to. He had arrived under the pretext that he too would further his skills in the way of the Force. His attention had been divided until he saw [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] sign towards the boy, requesting him to join in the fight.

Though his ears did not work he knew his eyes worked fine. He wants me to face him? He questioned before simply crossing his arms in silence. He acted as if he had not seen the gesture, making no attempt to move from his place on the sidelines. It was not until [member="#24061"] had taken a stance against him that Kaden pushed from the wall, busting into a full sprint towards the man.

He passed the girl called, "numbers" without hesitation, zoning his eyes on the man in front of him. Though he rushed forward in a full charge there was no immediate attack. He cut his charge short, bringing himself into an apparently defensive stance. His left forearm came up a few inches from his chest, his hand hovering over his shoulder. However, his right hand was balled into a fist, parallel to his rib cage. Kaden paused for a moment, examining the man's stance.

He's a warrior... He mused, taking notice of the smallest of movements and shifts that displayed a type of experience only the years could gift. Not wishing to pause his offensive any longer Kaden swung his torso counter-clockwise, bringing his right leg up to strike the man's head.

SHe was looking at them more curious as another joined into it and she waited for a moment. her hands remaining where they were and she was stretched out bringing her tail around on the floor and was waiting with it as she used it more like a massive muscled whip with the whites scales gleaming as they tried to get and catch the master while he could be distracted. The muscles made and able to crush most people to restrain them and make the bodies unusable by the other creatures on the world which was important if there was a problem. She remained there seeing the girl and a chance for the others she was guessing as this was certainly a strange way to have training go on with a master in the order.

Finally, a fighter, he thought to himself as [member="Kaden Blake"] would charge him. He watched Blake's movements carefully, curious as to how a deaf Jedi would handle on the field of battle, especially a Padawan such as Blake. [member="#24061"] had gotten into stance as well, but Josh would not approach her until she would throw hands, and the same would go to [member="Yag'dril"] and [member="Calder Icehammer"] as they would remain undisturbed until they deigned to face him. When Blake chose to strike, Josh's height lended to his advantage. But it wasn't his physical attributes that caused the counterattack. No... Josh suddenly moved with speed that without the proper training, Blake would be unable to follow. Force Speed aided him once again as he would catch Blake by surprise by leaping upwards to dodge the attack, bringing his knee crashing straight into the Padawan's skull, before whirling around in mid-air at speed that would still be difficult to follow the way they were now, and landing a rough spinning roundhouse of a kick to the back of his head, sending him forward.

[member="Shmi Labooda"] might notice the difference in the way that he fought unarmed here in comparison to when they had playfully sparred... He seemed far less restrained, less concerned about hurting the opponent then he'd been with her. And yet, he still held back on his strikes, not seeking to injure his Padawans, merely show them the way.

Josh would land just in time to note that [member="Yag'dril"] had taken stance as well... He watched the movement of her tail, knowing that would be her primary weapon, but also kept an eye on Padawan Blake as well.

He'd have to ramp it up to keep up with the increasing amount of opponents, he knew. But with the aid of the Force, he knew he'd be fine. And as he continued to use the Force as his unarmed ally, even without his lightsaber... Perhaps the group of them would begin to understand why he had chosen this lesson.

"You have to follow your own path."
Kaden was not surprised by the Jedi Master's speed, though none the less the attack had met with success. The stunning hit to his skull left him shocked as he felt the leg connect with the back of his head. He was sent off of his feet, slamming into the ground with a loud impact. A sharp grunt erupted from the man as he pushed himself to his knee. Rolling his neck around freely he spit out a slob of blood. He watched as the glob of crimson liquid connected with the surface below them.

Damn....He's faster than I thought. He stood to his full height, turning to [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] with a rather wide smirk coming over his face. Echani saw combat as a way to learn about those around you, friends and enemies, and Kaden was slowly learning about the man who would be his new master. Kaden stalked towards the Jedi master, glancing to [member="Yag'dril"] as she prepared herself for combat. He's outnumbered. But we're far outmatched. He thought with another smirk coming over him. Without another thought or consideration Kaden sprinted forward, this time, rather than pause to analyse his opponent he came forward with his right fist drew back. Once he finally closed the distance between them, rather than swinging with his right he let a quick blow erupt from his left fist.

Immediately following the fist he would duck down, attempting to pull the master from his feet with a sweep of his own leg.

A frown had settled on the bears face as he heard [member="Joshua DragonsFlame"] call for him to attack. He was a skilled Jedi, yes, but the aging Beorni had no intention of attacking a man already outnumbered. Perhaps he would be fine, but perhaps he wouldn't be. More importantly, what of the others around him? One wrong move, and he very well could strike one of them. From his size and strength, he could seriously hurt someone else.

So he would stand in a corner, watching and studying.

Numbers shook as she tried to attack again. After she was knock to the floor again, she simply backed off, knowing they were beat. "We cannot beat him." She said outloud.

He didn't move. He saw they had gauged as much from the lesson as they were going to, and some had decided not to partake. It was best to end this with an exclamation point and drive the point home. He held out a hand, and then the other as he watched Numbers, [member="Yag'dril"] and [member="Kaden Blake"] come at him. He began to focus his energy... Knowing that perhaps this was a bit more then necessary, but he wanted to do one thing, and that was drive the point home and drive it home hard. He'd repress his power to the best of his abilities so as not to cause them serious harm, but...

Neither would reach him. The Jedi Master let out a scream that reverberated throughout the room, as he would unleash a Force Repulse that would likely send both Blake, 'Dril and Numbers flying across the room, hitting the wall. With that, a silence would fill the room and the Jedi Master would take a moment to let out a deep breath. Force Repulse, even toned down, took a lot out of him. He'd need a rest, he knew, and thank the Force he'd recruited [member="Shmi Labooda"] to fill a slot for him while he did that.

Why had he done that, one might ask? Sure, he could have used Force Wave... But he wanted them to hit the wall. He wanted them to take a few lumps, without causing major damage. He wanted them to feel sore when they went to bed that night. Every lump, every bump, every bruise, every bit of soreness would be a reminder of the lesson. They would not forget the lesson, it would burn the brightest in their minds, and that was what he needed from them... He needed them to keep this lesson at the center of their very being.

"That is enough."

He would make his way toward the two, first helping Numbers to her feet, then Yag'dril, and then doing the same for Blake. Knowing his condition, Josh would turn first to Padawan Blake. Letting out a breath, he would try and recall what amount of sign he knew, thanking the Force he'd been sure to focus primarily on learning more key words first. He would sign "Force" first, then make a motion to emphasize that it was important, before motioning to himself, and then to him, indicating that the Force was important to them, hoping that it would register that he meant it was important to the Jedi. Josh knew he'd have to find a better method then sign to use on mission for communication, and he had an idea, but that would have to wait for a one on one session with Padawan Blake.

With that, he would turn and walk to the center of the room before addressing each of the Padawans, both new and veteran. He would clear his throat, and then he would speak...

"There was a key lesson to take from that sparring session. Every little bit of it, from my refusing to fight armed, to the end point. The Jedi use a lightsaber quite commonly, yes, that's likely what you've seen or heard of... But this lesson was to remind you of a key part of how we function. The Force. The Force is our main, primary driving... Well, force. It is the most important thing to a Jedi. I fought each of you unarmed... But the Force gave me speed, the Force gave me the ability to augment my own physical attributes, and the Force gave me the strength to finish it the way I did. All without a weapon.

The Force is your ally, your friend... Embrace it as such. It will be the most important part of your training, and it will be the most important, vital aspect of your life as a Jedi going forward. If you lose your weapon, you will have the Force. It is your greatest asset... And your greatest friend.

I repeat. Force. Important. Center" He spoke as he would look toward Padawan Blake and sign "Center" and make the motions of importance again toward the deaf Padawan to hammer the point home. "We are not just monks with glowsticks. Good luck learning to swing that glowstick without the Force. Cast aside everything you have ever heard about the Jedi, or seen the Jedi do... For you new Padawans, this is where you learn from scratch. And the biggest lesson of all will be the importance of the Force. Master it... It may not be the only tool a Jedi should have. But it will be your most important.

A Jedi must be physically, mentally and emotionally ready for anything... A Jedi must master the art of the blade. A Jedi must have compassion, and understanding... But most importantly, a Jedi must always continue to study the Force... Even when they have achieved the rank of Master."

The Jedi Master would nod once more toward the new Padawans.

"Once again... I wish to welcome Padawans [member="Kaden Blake"], [member="Calder Icehammer"], [member="Yag'dril"], [member="#24061"], otherwise nicknamed Numbers... To my class. To hammer home what I said earlier... Look toward your classmates, both your fellow newcomers... As well as to the more learned Padawans in my class... Padawans [member="Douglas Starwind"], [member="Dusaro Dresari"], [member="Anora Vahn"]... Remember their names, their faces. Look at them... And know they are your brothers. They are your sisters. They are not your co-workers, they are your family, and you should fight alongside them as though they are your family."

Looking toward Padawan Blake, he would be sure to motion toward the other Padawans, and sign something signalling importance, trying to sign "family" afterword though he was clearly rather amateur at signing this one, and very well could have signed "Talking Chicken" instead.

Even Masters had things to learn.

"For now... I apologize for the wait, Starwind, Dresari, Vahn... And to you as well, Master Labooda. Now that orientation has been concluded, I would like to give the floor to Master Labooda, if that is still your desire, Shmi... Master Labooda, if you have any advice, or lessons you wish to impart on my students... Please, feel free. The floor is yours."

With that, he would let Shmi take the attention of the Padawans, and would move to sit alongside them, sitting cross-legged as he made eye contact with Shmi... A small smirk crossed his lips that likely only she would see. An indicator that behind the formal, strict teacher she'd seen today... Still lay the casual, smart-ass of a man she'd grown to love.

Numbers gasped as she was thrown back. This was the Force? It certainly was powerful.

She nervously accepted the master's hand and stood up, bowing when she was on her feet.

Listening to him, Numbers took everything in like a sponge. A family..... Something she always wanted.....

She noticed the master trying to sign to a student. Politely getting the student's attention, she slowly signed the conversation, even though she didn't understand what the master's point was.

What was family...? Numbers flinched when she heard herself ask the question outloud and sign it at the same time.

She was looking at the others as it set down with her attention on some of the things themselves. Staying coiled back up as her master was speaking with a small look on her face so that she could listen and learn but was trying to look at the other ones as well. Hearing how he was speaking about it did bring her attention up and around but she was uncertain how to feel about it. Family was someone you fought with and she had seen nasty things compared to some. This was a little to clean for her when she remained there stretching out with the sounds of her bopnes popping and wiping at the scales that were sticky from whatever was on the floor around here.

[member="Joshua DragonsFlame"]

"Some orientation huh?" She would speak before walking up and stoping just before Josh exited the floor, they would swap places. She turned and looked over the group, nodding to herself slowly. It was a rather diverse group of students...but she had faith that Josh would teach them well, as evident of [member="Douglas Starwind"] [member="Dusaro Dresari"] [member="Anora Vahn"] who were all well on their way. The others would be in no time...

"I promise I won't be fighting anyone..." She held her hands up, palms visible. Another brief glance over the group, and then she saw caught Josh' smirk, which would cause her to smile in turn before turning her attention back to the others. "Again, I'm Master Shmi Labooda and today I'll just be sharing some of my own knowledge and teach you a trick or two."

"As Jedi...they'll be times where your entrusted with vital information that you'll have to keep secure." She looked to Josh, "Master DragonsFlame mentioned the Force being an ally and your greatest assets...I won't contest that." A smile, after her soft words trailed off, "However, I will say that your mind is extremely important as well...and arguably also one of your greatest assets."

"The concentration I'm going to teach you doesn't require use of the Force...but it's at the most basic levels of mental conditioning. There are multiple ways to attack an opponent, and you want to make sure everything is covered...crafting a Thought Shield is a way to keep mental intruders from getting into your surface thoughts. All you have to do is think in a sequence or a pattern, politicians use this sometimes unknowingly. Numbers usually work really well...but so do very vivid memories, and lists."

She paced back and forth, "If you can I want you all to think of a memory you can recall vividly...happy or sad, I prefer happy but..." She shrugged her shoulders, "Or if you have a long list of things you have to do, go through that. The point is to constantly go through a specific memory, list, or number sequence in succession multiple times without straying off. I'll be listening in so, give it your best shot."

[member="Shmi Labooda"] already had Dusaro's fully attention when she began to speak. Even if he was normally a laid back person, when being taught he payed close attention. But when she brought up that what she would teach them was not of the force nor saber, she had his curiousity and intrest. He knew vaguely already about 'mentalism'. Abilities that effect the mind and though he did not know any real specifics, he heard of ways to block and defend the mind as well. Since it was being brought up here, he planned to fully utilize this chance.

The comment of listening in made him wonder a bit on how exactly she was going to be listening in. Then, Dusaro realized he really would rather not think about that to deeply and instead focused on the task at hand. Numbers, he was not really good with that kinda thing. When it came to lists, well. He could list off all the weapons he had trained with. But when he tried it, that didn't really... Work well for him. It didn't click well, even after two minutes of trying. So he moved on to memories.

Dusaro had many rather intense and vivid memories. While she had recommended positive ones, he did not have many of those that were so strong. Many small ones yes, but no single one that stood out. So he thought of recalled something else. It was a memory that brought up a torrent of strong emotions. Loss, anger, fear. Regret. But he temperd those feelings. They were strong and they were present, but in this moment they did not control. His stance remained unchanged, though the keen observer might notice a shift in facial muscles. While in one respect, it might make a shield that was hard to read, it left him far more vulnerable to other forms of attack. Goading on those same emotions for example.

Though that was not something Dusaro was aware of and because of that this lesson end up with him being an example. A bad example of what not to do perhaps, but an example. Unless it was commented on however, he would continue to construct his mental shield in that way. It was a crude thing by the time it was 'done' to be sure.

Numbers watched the other padawns, rather, the blury shapes of them.

She had no positive memories, only ones of slavery.......

With a sigh, she stepped back, excusing herself from the class.

She was watching them, looking at all of the other padawans as the girl was leaving and she had a small look on her face. A slight bow to her head, then she was moving off to look at and listen to the other jedi master that was discussing things. Shmi was talking about a thought shield and what she might be letting them all see, what she might be able to learn before she was heading there and coiling herself up, her hands getting soem fo the things that were sticking to the cales with a small look as she recalled some memories over and over to protect her mind and thoughts to listen and let them look at it. She was from a hostile world with a number of dangerous creatures. She had thoughts and memories of monsters with a small look

(No posting order needed Shmi, so feel free to go whenever you please)

The Jedi Master listened intently, as though he were one of the Padawans. It was true, of course... One's mind was as important as their body, and their connection to the Force. Of course, the Force could be considered part of the mental game... But technicalities aside, he was happy to see that Shmi had thought of a practical lesson to teach his class while she was here. That he appreciated, of course, it would save him the trouble of teaching them it, and they would grow accustomed to learning from those around them, not just him... Not to mention there was always the chance he would forget to teach something as vital as the thought shield. With so many things to cover, forgetting even just a few was always possible... But not recommended.

Some of the Padawans, by their expressions, seemed to only listen to the first part, suggesting a positive memory. Numbers even left the room. They all forgot she had also suggested they could try a list, or numbers... Meanwhile, Josh, who had learned how to use this long ago, had a far better idea. He was curious as to how Shmi could keep her composure if thrown a curveball... So he would participate in the lesson, knowing Shmi would likely take the opportunity to scry him as well. She did on the regular anyway, so he knew she did it and probably wouldn't make the exception here.

So instead of a list, or something you'd expect from the busybody Jedi... He instead projected a memory in his head. Sort of, anyway. It was of something he remembered, but it was... Interesting. Josh knew that you could block mindreading by building a shield with thoughts of a brick wall, or something solid that took the entire focus of the image. In Shmi's case, he wanted to catch her off-guard, and see if he could tell visibly she'd tried to scry him. It was a strategy he'd used before, making his shield of something that would catch someone by surprise, if he suspected them of scrying him... Usually when he did, he'd look for a visible sign from them that they'd seen it. But in this case, he not only wanted to test her, but... Well, quite frankly, this was a prank. Simple as that. Another subtle little tease. That tease came in the form of a mental image of his beloved Shmi's rear end taking full front and center in the image Shmi would find if she tried to read his thoughts.

He watched her expression adamantly throughout this... And waited. His expression gave no hint to his intentions... He hid himself well.

Numbers never actually left the room. Rather, she was in the doorway, still watching.

Tears pricked her eyes as she realized, she had no happy times. Wait.... A list of numbers....

Numbers took a deep breath as she mentally said a list of memorized numbers.

The numbers of slaves that she had seen die as she was tossed from master to master.
