Into The Valley [SJO Dominion of Ruusan Hex]

JoUtNcJ.png

On its surface, Ruusan was a harsh, unassuming planet, one easily passed over by miners and profiteers for its lack of resources. Gusting winds swept coarse sand over rocky hills and through deep gorges. A lone convor squawked overhead, circling slowly.

Standing atop one of those rocky hills was the figure of a man dressed in flowing, light-colored robes so as to reflect some of the sunlight. The man, face obscured by goggles and a scarf that wrapped around his nose and mouth, peered through macrobinoculars down a steep hill, into a crevasse so deep that the sunlight couldn’t even touch it at this hour. Lowering the scarf and goggles, Cassius Droma looked upon – not for the first time – something that could very well define his time as a Jedi archaeologist.

The Valley of the Jedi. It had been the home of a very powerful Force nexus, and was an archaeological gold mine. Countless artifacts and statues were sure to be there, even after others might have visited to scavenge it. Over time, it had become more obscured by a shifting landscape and collapsing debris, with only a few pieces of statues the only indicator of where it could even be. The only passage into it was known by a reclusive local tribe of Ruusanians.

Turning away from the edge of the gorge, Cassius began to walk back towards the village some one hundred yards away, putting his macrobinoculars on his utility belt. The Stardust Melody was landed right next to the village, towering over even the tallest building in the village. He’d gotten here a week ago as an advanced scout and to make contact with the local tribe, spending the whole time trying to convince the Ruusanians to let him go down to the Valley. The food and water he’d brought on the Stardust certainly helped. They’d finally agreed, and the expedition would be today. One of the locals would come along as a guide. All he had to do was bring the rest of his party with him.

Retrieving a holocommunicator from his belt, Cassius activated it and punched in a signal to [member="Valae Kitra"]. “Grandmaster,” Cassius started, still walking back towards the village. “The natives have finally agreed to let us go to the Valley. They’d like to go as soon as possible, as do I.” Needless to say, he was excited, but he kept his communication cordial and professional. “Coordinates have been sent. I eagerly await your arrival.” Cassius ended the transmission. Although he would be leading the expedition, the Grandmaster was also planning on bringing a group of younger Padawan in order to experience the Valley for themselves. As of right now, though, Cassius was alone, which was typically how he preferred it. Alone, of course, except for…

“When do you think they’ll get here?” T-4D4 asked, the K-X series droid falling into step with Cassius as they reached the edge of the village. “I’m due for an oil bath. All this sand is getting into my servos.”

“Should be soon, hopefully,” Cassius breathed out, stopping for a moment and taking a drink from his canteen. He’d refill it before they left. Sighing, the young archaeologist looked out across the plateau and towards the gorge. It was mid-morning – the day was still theirs for the taking.

Objectives:
1. Pilgrimage: Travel with Cassius Droma and Valae Kitra as they lead an archaeological expedition into the Valley of the Jedi.
2. Green Thumb: Ruusan was once a verdant world covered in forests. Researchers cordon off a small patch of uninhabited desert land to experiment with new terraforming techniques in a controlled environment.
3. Minutemen: Silver Jedi and Antarian Rangers help train up local militia units in both ground and air/space combat. Training includes mock raids by Silver Space units acting in the role of pirates.
4. Bring Your Own Objective!

Ruusan, the once-capital of the Sith Triumvirate. Where the Triumvirate's forces won over the then-SSC but at such a high cost that the Triumvirate could no longer conduct any operations, and collapsed soon thereafter. But the Triumvirate was no more, and here she were, standing near the proverbial gates of Ruusan. Today, she would not be here in a command capacity, she would be here to learn more about the Ruusan Reformations and the battles that preceded it. And, of course, about Jedi history. Of course, as one of the more senior SJ grounders, she knew more about the Seventh Battle than she did about its aftermath. Said Seventh Battle was a classical example of how overconfidence in a faction's FUs could be costly, wiping out the Brotherhood of Darkness' conventional ground forces nearly completely, and the Eighth Battle was fought, on the ground theater, with no CAS whatsoever. With that sid, she was due to a trip to Olmondo before she could proceed into the Valley proper. The city had a monument called Fort Nowhere, at its outer edge, with the Valley laying elsewhere in the city's outskirts. But she had a reluctant passenger onboard her Neimoidian Yacht:

"I hoped never to return to Ruusan, general. All the memories I'm having of that place is that of suffering, of our own failures when attacking the planet and Olmondo with it" Catria retorted.

"To be fair, we're a little weak about our own knowledge of the Ruusan Reformations and what led to those. Perhaps I'm biased because of my area of expertise; I seemed to focus more on how each side fought prior to their passage, and the doctrines of the era seemed to downplay conventional forces"

Too weird to live, too rare to die!
A lone, Talon starfighter descended near silently on repuslors to settle next to the Stardust Melody. Landing struts hissed, pressure equalized, then the pilot hopped out, the sun glinting brilliantly off her ultrachrome finish - so brilliantly she frowned and pulled the hood of her robes up, before taking one long look around and walking slowly over to stand beside [member="Cassius Droma"].

She nodded to Tee-Four, a silent binaric greeting passing through the airwaves, but did not speak so as not to disturb the moment.

A far cry from the first place they had met, she thought, a soft smile crossing her features.

Junko sat on the back fo the large Jotun, one of the inhabitants of the world was able to go through the desert and on several of the times she and others had come to the world. They worked with them, since the sith pulled out after the silver sanctums failed battle. Well Sasori had worked here, to try and restore the city that had been blown up, to help the people and with a few seeder ships they had worked on the smaller cities and outposts. She was heading towards the valley and the research team of archaeologists, artisan's and everything else that worked with them. She had left room for her padawan to join her. Tanaski was skilled but sitting on the back of the large creature in the seat as it rocked lightly back and forth. Her datapad chirped showing the biots who were cleaning up the area for her. Information from the tear in reality that had been done. Stretching out as the information they had been collecting came for her to review.

Task: What ever Junko is doing

The sunny and harsh light beaming down on what his mother once said was a lush and well forested area kind of felt very stereotypical of his kind, but then again it had been a while since Tanasuki had been out in a desert like environment. As of the now Padawan was riding along with his master on the native beast, trying to keep shade with a small parasol umbrella, dressing his force infused Yukata. Slightly because its heat resistance helped a bit, but more so just in case of a fight, not that they where expecting one, but it was better to be safe rather then sorry. "Just a minor question master, what are we doing here again"? Yes he had been at the briefing, no he had not fallen asleep but it seemed Junko had decided to go on her own little task from what the others where doing, or just accomplishing said task in a different way.

Objective 1: Prepare for the expedition into the Valley of the Jedi
Location: The Tumbleweed – Base camp, Ruusan
Post: 1

Valae was very pleased to receive the communication from [member="Cassius Droma"]. The Grandmaster had been patiently waiting for his word that their expedition into the Valley was good to go. She returned a quick acknowledgement that the message had been received, and they would be on their way to the designated coordinates. As the Order was doing some work here on Ruusan, there was a small base camp set up, complete with shelters and living quarters.

There were several new additions to the Order of the Silver Jedi, Valae couldn’t think of a better way for them to get started. Indeed she remembered her first mission with the Order, a trip to Felucia – a world that she still held very dear in her heart. It had been a very special time, and she hoped that their new members would have the same chance to get off on the right foot.

Reaching for her communicator, she sent word to each of them. “This is Grandmaster Kitra, we’ll be leaving for the Valley of the Jedi shortly – please gather your things and meet me aboard the Tumbleweed. I’ll be taking off in fifteen minutes!”

Taking a moment to grab up her own belongings, she set out for the ship.

She was dressed the part for an expedition today, exchanging her woolen robes in favor of something lighter. A button up shirt, a pair of tawny pants, and tall boots that came up to the knee. Valae had also made sure to grab a hat with a brim to complete the ensemble. Her rucksack was packed full of essentials – sunblock, snacks, and a couple canteens of water. Walking towards her ship with a spring in her step, she lowered the ramp and decided to wait outside to usher in any that wished to join.

Junko turned back to look at her padawan with a grin on her face. She moved a hand and showed her own parasol before touching the slender neck of the Jotun. "Well we are heading towards the valley. It is a very beautiful place that Seimei and its works have been doing things on for awhile now. We should be able to get any of the information we need or see what they have done with the sith fortress. THere was a platform brought awhile back to the valley and in it we should be able to get a few things. Or we can well roam around a bit." She smiled though and sitting there with her padawan brought her hand out to brush a little dust off of his yukata. "Don't want to look like we aren't proper and here in the valley of the jedi you might find something you want to put into your saber padawan. There are a number of force sensitive stones that could be decorative in the pommel and crystals to decorate it." She offered a smile while the creature started moving through the rock where it had been cut and the siege platform lomed in the distance. A massive vehicle given for them to use as it held an armor division.

Ashla rushed out of her quarters in a hurry to not miss the trip, the only difference was she wasn't wearing her robe, but instead was wearing a thin black top and a pair of deep blue exercise pants. She had with her a neatly packed little bag, laden with heavy books, several pairs of clothing, some water, etc. She caught her breath when she reached the spaceship. She said "I'm here!" "Is this how you do things around here? Go on field trips with fifteen minutes notice?" She finally relaxed and waited for others to arrive. She had been reading a book on the mythology of her culture, a favorite past time, along with drinking hot chocolate and fighting. Her hair was tidy like always, which actually was surprising given the circumstances.

Jerit was dressed in his usual get up on this rather sunny day. His Jedi robes with an under shirt and pants. He had to admit, he underestimated by how the weather on Ruusan would be. But, there was no going back to Kashyyyk now. He had to deal with it. When he first saw Ruusan, he admired it mostly because it holds a very valuable and sacred place to him: The Valley of the Jedi. He had read much about it and now his anticipation can be barely kept inside of him. Here he was, a Padawan of the Silver Jedi Order about to embark on a journey that would change his life as a Jedi. Nobody knew his true intentions with becoming more than a servant of the light. Not even his master, [member="Jyoti Nooran"]. At least, not yet.

During his time on Kashyyyk, Jerit contemplated much about what he wanted to do with his life with the Silver Jedi Order. He decided after a long time to become a prophet of the force. He wanted to be someone who knew of the force more than anyone. The power that this mystical energy field amazes him every day and he enjoys learning much about it. With this trip to Ruusan, he can surely jump start his journey into becoming a more well rounded Jedi. Now here he was. He looked up at the sky and back at base camp.

There were shelter units everywhere and people going about their own tasks. There was sand floating about around him, but Jerit repelled any stray material with the force. He didn't like sand. It's so coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. To help with his stay, he brought a bag which he strapped to his back. It was full of water, rations, extra clothes, and some alcohol. Jerit only brought a beer or two so it wouldn't be all that much he would drink. He planned to enjoy those little puppies at night when everyone is asleep or when he is alone. He looked to his master beside him.

"You think the planet that held the Valley of the Jedi would be more... suitable."

He noticed Master Kitra getting on board The Tumbleweed. With what he saw and the message form his communicator, she was going to head to the Valley of the Jedi. Anticipation ran though Jerit's mind. He quickly spoke with his master once again.

"Master, we should tag along with Master Kitra! I would love to see the Valley of the Jedi!"

Now, he waited eagerly for a response from his jedi master.

Objective: Minutemen - Local Militia Training
Location: Ruusan Orbit, Tarlanc
Post: 1

Ruusan was a planet with history. Most of that history involved Jedi and Sith, typically fighting between the two. Many battles fought, many lives lost. So many of them Force sensitives that the place fairly reeked with the power. There had been a nexus here once, but he was aware it had been contested and wasn't sure if it still existed. That was the purview of scholars though, Audren carried little interest in it. He'd been present during the last battle, involved in the fighting near Olmondo. Not the most brilliant fighting of his life, but it had been an impressive show of force on both sides. The Sith faction of the time had collapsed not long after.

This time would be different. Somewhat. Once again he would be involved in an assault on Ruusan. This time his involvement would be more limited. He would be taking a back seat, playing the role of observer. His marines, on the other hand, would be heavily involved. They would be the opposition in this scenario: the pirates assaulting settlements ground-side. They were preparing now, gathering in the briefing room. It wasn't long before the explanation was finished and most of the questions answered, so they headed to the ready room.

"What do you have for us today, sir?"

The Sephi smiled somewhat at the eagerness shown by the captain of one of the squads. It was clear the man was itching to get onto the field; it had been a long time since this force was fielded in a scenario that wasn't against their own comrades or droid opposition. A specific code punched into the control console opened the armory lockers, making armor and weapons visible. These particular units were training sets: the weapons fired light stun rounds at their heaviest settings, and the armor pieces simulated wounds from hits. This included limited pain and localized paralysis depending on the location of the hit.

"Toys today, captain. Get everyone suited up and onto the dropships, we launch in fifteen."

As the marines began donning armor and checking gear, the Jedi headed into the ventral hangar bay. They'd be using two of the four transports available and he wanted those crews ready to go as well. Shouldn't be a problem, as the transports hadn't been strenuously used since the convoy escort that Tarlanc had run so long ago. He could sense the anticipation from the pilots as well; they were looking forward to being more than simple cargo pilots.

It was too bad pirate crews so seldom had Force sensitives on payroll...no, no it wasn't. He just wanted in on the action.

Just like every other planet he had been to in the past months, Ruusan was like nothing Reggie had seen before. He was in his quarters, getting ready to move out and help out with anything he could. The SJO were here for a reason after all, and he wasn't here just for the Ruusan sights. Since he had never been on the planet before, Reggie would definitely enjoy exploring. Others would say otherwise considering the sand that was floating around everywhere, but it wasn't something Reggie couldn't handle.

Reggie had brought something that he would be wearing for the first time: his Jedi robes. He had his robes for awhile now but never wore them, usually wearing regular clothes wherever he went. Instead of leaving it to collect dust for all eternity, he decided to take it with him. A jedi's robes were something of importance, so he should have started wearing them a long time ago. After clipping his lightsaber hilt onto his belt, Reggie realized that one thing was missing. He had the feeling for awhile, but couldn't figure out what it was exactly. Before he could figure out what it was, [member="Valae Kitra"] came onto the communicator who said that the trip to the Valley of the Jedi would soon be underway.

Reggie was about to leave his quarters until he realized what he was missing. He didn't have his headband with him, which wasn't too much of a big deal but it upset him a bit. His headband was given to him by his parents and was something that reminded him of home. It was something he held dear to him and brought him back to reality when he was putting too much time into his researched. He had gone without it before, but it just surprised him since he didn't have it this time around. There was no time to think of that now though, he had to meet the others aboard the Tumbleweed quickly.

"No time to waste!"

When Reggie arrived, he bowed to the Grandmaster in respect.

"Hello Grandmaster Kitra!"

He turned to introduce himself to [member="Ashla Marlar"], who had boarded before him.

"My name is Reggie Faayare. Nice to meet you!"

Ashla responds "Hi." "I'm Ashla." She thought to herself she might have packed a little on the heavy end, but when in doubt, bring it. She asked him, "Do they do this often?" She had heard of Ruusan. A lot had happened there in the ancient past. She knew that also because of her pastime.

Ruusan... This was a world that Zavii had wanted to see for a long time. She had heard accounts of the battles here from an old holonet feed from the Sith Wars. Evidently, whatever Magicks that had destroyed the Sith and much of the Army of Light had also ravaged the flora, since the landscape had included a lot more plants when she saw it on the library's vidscreen. Part of her wanted to join the team who would be trying to replace some of the lost biosphere, but what interested her most was visiting the tombs of ancient Jedi Masters.

The young Zabraki woman was lying in her hammock, strung up on the supports of two neighboring shelters, and listening to a recording her parents had sent her on her sixteenth birthday. This was one of her favorites because it was the pair of them playing a song that they had written for her at one of their concerts, and at the end of the song you could hear a crowd of people cheer. She had all of their songs on her holocomm, and always sang along.

Just before the final chorus, however, the recording was interrupted by a chirp and Grandmaster Kitra's voice announced that she'd be leaving soon. Zavii shut the music off and rolled from her hammock to crouch, catlike, on the ground before jogging toward the Tumbleweed. "Good morning, Master Kitra," she chimed as she stepped up the ramp. Already there were two Humans onboard and she cast them a cheery "Hi, guys!" before taking a seat and strapping in. "What do you think we'll find down there?" She asked, looking at each of them in turn.

"Once we land, get the archaeology equipment ready: we're going to dig around Fort Nowhere"

Fort Nowhere. One of the IM-455's ancestors, and, because of it, the IM-456 that used to be Fort Kushiban on Kushibah, slighted by the Kushiban that manned it before the Sith Empire could lay their hands on it. What she hoped to get from the derelict six-sided star fort was one of the following: the order of battle of either the Army of Light or the Brotherhood of Darkness for the Ruusan Campaign, or at least the Seventh Battle, as well as the accounting books for the construction of the Valley of the Jedi. Upon landing at Fort Nowhere, she began to take up the kit: a set of shovels, small and large, a few brushes, a datapad, to name a few of the equipment Today's Fort Nowhere is but a derelict that is a shadow of its former glory. Not that it had much glory to begin with. The duet began to dig around the known entrances to the fort's catacombs while Catria was asked about that unorthodox choice of an artifact to find, as if expecting hard copies of the Valley of the Jedi's construction ledgers to be stored in Fort Nowhere and not to be stolen by any of the attackers (Silver Sanctum, Sith Triumvirate, Techno Union and possibly a myriad of others).

"Why are you interested in the accounting books of the Valley of the Jedi? The orders of battle for the beginning and the end of the campaign I could understand, given your position, but the accounting books?"

"For some reason that is poorly understood, it appears the accounting books for projects such as the Valley of the Jedi are usually kept secret even though the projects are publically-financed. Even though people tend to have a better grasp of personal finances than public finances, these days, the sacrifices in the accounting books must also be remembered"

"About the same," the Zabrak replied, her sharp teeth flashing between her smiling lips. "I just have this image in my head of, like, pictograms carved into the walls and columns and stuff, which is probably crazy because i've seen holos from the old Sith Wars, so i don't know. From what i've heard, though, it's basically the opposite of Korriban. Oooh, wouldn't it be cool to go and see Korriban one day?" "Master Kitra! Can we go check out Korriban one day? I wanna see all the Sith tombs! For- uh, Ballance!"

Task: Whatever Junko is doing

"Oooooooh an old Sith temple, now that is something exciting", just the mention of that one word peaked his interest in their presence on this planet, "What things can we pick up? is there a shop there or are we going exploring in the temple, maybe find some old relics, perhaps pick something out for elder sister, she loves history". In turn, he also wanted to help where he could, this planet had seen better days and just doing a little bit of good for the planets inhabitants would feel nice, regardless of how small the task was.

Though Ike’s mention of force sensitive item in the valley was also an interesting prospect, "Well that does sound useful, what benefits would those items have? or are they more of just decorations? not that I don't mind just decorations, it’s always nice to fancy up and personalize my sabre". He turned back his attention to the platform in the distance as they came closer, its looming structure being a stark contrast against the brown and well sand of the planet’s surface, "I hope they have a bar of some sorts up there".

[member="Tanaski Yumi"]

Junko looked at her padawan and he seemed to be getting excited, that was important.. that was something that she would be able to see and handle. "Oh we could find some very nice things." Seeing the structures here as the jotun came through the pass. Statues on the sides of it of ancient jedi, the sounds of Seimei workers and jedi who were going about as the engineers in the valley. They had developed a number of things working on the statues. Junko could see more of the valley and she spoke. "We can get you something for your elder sister. There are plenty of relic still here and any number of things. The teams from the jedi archeologists have been working for a few years to well see the planet." Junko said it as she was sitting there and the large creature stopped lowering its head so they could get off when she moved around. Standing tall and at the ready with her parasol before sliding down and touching the ground of the valley. "Hmm I wonder where the others are?" She waited for a moment wanting to see about it and shook her hair motioning for her padawan to come with her when she started walking. "You look very nice today as well. I am glad the dust didn't mar your outfit to much."

Ashla smiled and said "Would be interesting one way or another." "What made you think Ruusan was the opposite of Korriban?" both are ruined worlds where Sith used their strongest powers. According to legend, it was the site of a thought bomb that obliterated everyone, Sith and Jedi alike. I'll bet we'll find some nice 'statues'" She leaned in close and whispered, so the teacher couldn't hear, "It might be fun to do some exploration."

Zavii wasted no time answering, "Well firstly the names: Valley of the Jedi and Valley of the Sith. And yes, the Sith definitely messed this place up, but it was the ancient Jedi that reclaimed it for their own uses, just like the Dark Lords claimed the original Sith Empire from the actual people it's named after, right? That's why i'm excited to see what both places look like. Compare and contrast. Besides, we've all seen those action-holos and their versions of Korriban, but how many people know what it really looks like, you know?"

When the shorter Human leaned and whispered Zavii's eyes flicked to the male in the ship with them, but quickly back to Ashla. She bit back her grin and just nodded, meeting the other girl's eyes. As the moment passed, she spoke up again, "How long until we take off?"
