LFG [Interest Check] The Chiss Ascendancy

After the destruction of Csilla, the Chiss were demoralized. Those who managed to escape the planets destruction survived and sought refuge wherever they could, among the allies the Ascendancy had fostered over a period of less isolationist governing. Still, millions died, despite heroic efforts from Governments throughout the galaxy seeking to assist.

The remainder of Chiss Space was encroached on, from multiple sides, as the New Imperial Order and Brotherhood of the Maw expanded their reach. Colonies, worlds, Ruling Families, all continued to fall as the Ascendancy struggled to unify against two threats - albeit with different methods for taking territory. The presence of the Chiss waned in their region, as more and more Chiss saw the untimely end to their region, and sought to escape the takeover of planets and communities.

Meanwhile, the Chiss Defense Expedition Group did what they could to protect their people. But ultimately, without full reserves and leadership, their efforts were small obstacles in the wake of the larger forces against them. Many commanders died, full fleets were destroyed, and a stubborn inability accept defeat resulted in many resources being lost.

Still, there was hope.

Some of the Ruling Families were able to prepare for what was coming, and they mustered private resources, to create a collective fleet. Those that saw the outcome knew that adaptation was needed, that for the Chiss and the Ascendancy to survive, pride and relentless stubbornness was not going to work. Under a number of prominent members of the species, the newly named Chiss Ascendancy Expedition Flotilla gathered more and more individuals, resources, vessels, databases, artifacts and relics of the culture.

Even a complete backup of the Expeditionary Library was brought onboard the flagship of the CAF, which was a collective information source of Chiss exploration in the Unknown Regions. It would be of vital importance, as the Ascendancy turned toward becoming a nomadic species, until such time as they could begin to recover what they had lost to interlopers.

The Chiss Ascendancy Expedition Flotilla now has a simple goal: preserve the Chiss, their culture, and regain Chiss Space.

Faction Name: The Chiss Ascendancy

OOC Hierarchy: Thorne (staff), otherwise TBD

Form of Government: Aristocratic oligarchy

Governing Body: Chiss Syndicure - the Syndicure has both executive and legislative authority over the Ascendancy, and is composed of leading members of the Ruling Families

Extensions of Government:
  • Ruling Families - members of the Ruling Families are assigned specific areas within the Ascendancy to overlook and develop, for the benefit of the species
  • Aristocra - a large organization that works on mid-level governing of the Chiss Ascendancy, and are a part of the ruling class of the Chiss species, who work directly with the Syndicure
  • Great Families - a broad political group of Chiss families, some within the Aristocra, of the Chiss Ascendancy and handle low-level governing duties; the Great Families ranked below the Ruling Families in hierarchy, power, and influence, but remain above other Chiss families that are not part of either group

Military:
  • Defense Hierarchy - the military leadership that decide all military-related matters for the Ascendancy, and lead the CDF and other subsequent branches
  • Chiss Defense Force - the primary navy military of the Ascendancy, they also command the marine and commando units
  • Chiss Commandos - the black ops unit serving directly under CDF high ranked officers
  • Chiss Starfighter Corps -the primary starfighter group serving in the CDF
  • The Ozyly-esehembo - the Force group of the Ascendancy, they are skilled Force navigators and have high precognition abilities
  • Chiss Marine Corps - the primary armed ground forces of the Ascendancy, used for ground operations under CDF high command
  • Chiss Intelligence Division - the primary intelligence division of the Ascendancy, acting as networkers, spies and threat assessment
  • Colonial Phalanxes - the small privatized colony defense forces, used to defend individual planets the phalanxes are largely obsolete by this point

The Pitch: This is a new take on the Chiss Ascendancy. It follows the same principles of the species and culture, retaining the usual Chiss-ness one expects, but throws the species into a turmoil of existence. So, instead of the relative safety of their Chiss Space, they now have to contend with being a more nomadic species, and dealing with the Unknown Regions and enemies within.

The Government, and ruling families, will still function in a similar way; the only change will be that instead of political meetings on Csilla, they now take place on a moving fleet of survivors. This time around, the Chiss will have to contend with constantly moving, evading Maw forces. The feel of it could be comparable to Battlestar Galactica, the last series, with the fleet escaping Earth and trying to survive Cylon pursuit/forces.

Since the map game has changed the Chiss Space region, maybe it's time for the Chiss to adapt, too.

The purpose of the Chiss Ascendancy Expedition Flotilla is:
  • Provide a new narrative for players to get involved, change up the status quo for the Chiss (but maintain its roots)
  • Allow the minor faction some originality from the normal CA versions, more opportunity to explore stories etc
  • Give members a chance to explore the unknown regions (such as creating submissions)
  • Give the faction the maximum amount of flexibility to work with other factions on the map game, as a minor
  • See if the minor faction can work toward reclaiming Chiss Space (perhaps later, as a major), and whether it has the staying power under more turbulent and narratively difficult times
How the faction would run:
  • This minor will be proactive, all members must be willing to drive their own stories and get involved
  • I will no longer prod or encourage activity from anyone; if you want to be involved, then be involved, or don't
  • I will present stories and arcs primarily for active members, which will be open for all, but these arcs will be completed - no waiting months for replies or drop outs, etc
  • If there's a push for major status (which I will not decide on - my goal is to maintain a functioning/stable minor first and foremost) it will be realistically assessed over a trial period, before the application is made, depending on the results
  • I ask that, this time, members be willing to work together and not try to spread out across multiple sub-factions within the Ascendancy - we need a unified vision, a unified destination, and splitting off has only ever caused problems

So there it is. It's likely not complete, but this is mainly to gauge interest before a lot of work is put into it all.

Feel free to discuss or ask questions.

Very interesting concept, even if I'm not a Chiss... However, if you ever need some compassionate outside aid (even if all this Bothan can do is lift childrens' - and some adults' - spirits), I might be able to spare some time, and, of course, I'm sure there are plenty of other individuals in the Galaxy who would be willing to aid or exploit this development - you can bet on that.

I can get in touch with a buncha Chiss enjoyers outside of the board and present them the project if you want. I am most hyped to see another proposal for Chiss roleplay, and I'll do what I can to help it grow.
Just tell me if I have to seek french writers to get on the board for you

we’ve been doing some stuff mentioning a semi-autonomous Chiss refugee colony on one of the moons of Susefvi if you want to do anything with that direction.

If my overworked furry butt can find the time to show up, a link to that little bit of lore if it ever comes about would be appreciated, but only if you want me to make an appearance.

My faction, House Io, would be greatly interested in helping the Chiss survive. We have very advanced technology and are willing to use it to help upgrade the flotilla ships. Also interested in joining the faction, Thorne

If you join, it could be entirely feasible to adapt some tech to the purpose as your new Chiss? Chiss have always been good with updating/upgrading technology, so having a skilled mechanic/manufacturer type could be nice. I usually handle the tech, so sharing that with someone would be a bit of pressure off, with setup and initial stories, etc.

There will be some submissions I make, if this goes ahead, for the flotilla phase of the Chiss - so we can collaborate.

I'm never one to turn down or turn away players with interest. And if your French writers are happy to be Chiss, we're happy to have them to count toward the interest check.

The Elysium Empire would immediately push for an alliance. Do you think that would work out? I'm also happy to make a character to help bolster your ranks.

OOCly I can photoshop....give me a picture of anyone, I'll make them look like they are Chiss.

Alliance outright might be a hard sell, since the Ascendancy has been pushed around by Maw, NIO and GA in terms of territory. But maybe in time, once the Chiss have a direction and paths form on how to begin reclaiming their worlds, it could be an option.

And any additional characters will help, yeah.

We did an evac of Csilla after it got wrecked, and we’ve been doing some stuff mentioning a semi-autonomous Chiss refugee colony on one of the moons of Susefvi if you want to do anything with that direction.

That could be something to include in a later story, yeah. I don't have concrete plans or ideas, since we're in a checking phase, but a plot arc could involve visiting existing colonies of refugee Chiss and offering to relocate them to the flotilla or something.

If it is a matter of trust, we could probably earn it over.

We immediately declared war on The Sith Empire and Brotherhood of The Maw after Csilla, we have taken on a ton of refugees, and we are spearheading the efforts to build "New Csilla" We also have several high ranking Chiss in our navy.

I think it's more that alliances are lower on the priority list, if we're approaching this from the development point of:

1. Secure/prepare the fleet for use, get it functional and moving
2. Gather as many supplies as possible to survive a nomadic lifestyle for a while
3. Establish new leadership for the Chiss people, allocate Ruling Families and allocate economic/political/military responsibilities
3. Begin locating and collecting refugees, offering them a chance to return to their people
4. Avoid outright discovery by the Maw and other threats, and maintain the secrecy of the flotilla location
5. And then maybe look to see what groups or factions are in positions to be considered allies or friendly
6. Begin exploration missions, testing enemy positions, scout and update information for survival and/or retaliatory actions
That's a rough plot progression in my head, which doesn't include other member's ideas or plots they want to play out (throughout those points). Alliances are possible, yes, but I think the Chiss need to solidify the Chiss first... and then look outward. Or maybe I could be wrong, I dunno.

That said, if the Ascendancy thing happens, members can pipe in with thoughts, and we'll see where it leads!

Shoot me a link if you want me to be among the refugees either during or after relocation and initial colonization efforts, as holo-costumes, musical instruments and a few props will be all I need to entertain any demoralized Chiss (stripper poles are NOT necessary, please), though I'm not sure how big the Chiss might be towards cultural exchange, stubborn as they are (no offense to you guys).

I mean, there's not a ton of lore on it yet, since the system location thing I've been working on is still very WIP. Basically just there's a mostly self-governing refugee colony on one of the moons most like Csilla. That's about all I have so far.

Thorne
Totally up to you! We're specialists in logistics, infrastructure, deep space transit, and the like, so let me know if y'all want to do anything at some point!

I'm willing to collaborate, but IC, could I be a secret, behind the scenes ally?

I am in the process of developing Multiple Technologies which I hope will pass, and would be happy to develop a whole line of Star Destroyers for the faction, along with food, medicine, and armor and weapons, Thorne

As for other reasons my character would get involved, she tried to prevent the original Csillas annihilation, rescued multiple Chiss when the Maw raided Oyokai, and evacuated as many as she could from a Chiss monastery when the Maw attacked that also.

A lot of submissions are existing, so the Ascendancy doesn't need too much in the way of things made.

That said, a nomadic lifestyle might bring some different tech requirements, and we can definitely work on that stuff. Sounds good, though.

Like alliances, this submission angle can be worked out after the Ascendancy starts, and if the staying power is there from Chiss interest.

In that list of priorities, I think you can seek NIO support, or at least send someone on Yinchorr since we have collected a good portion of Chiss refugees and secured Sharb and the Redoubt before things got downhill for the Chiss. Once the fleet feels prepared enough, it shall use any of those planets as ports of call if needed, and HHA will make sure to supply them, since Julius has a long history of (friendly) relationships with Chiss met before Csilla
