In The Middle Of The Night

Night had fallen hours before, the Halls of the Jedi were empty, silence reigned. It seemed the entire Temple was asleep save for the occupant of one room, a tiny girl crawling around in what seemed to be a pacing-manner. Every so often a whimper would break the stagnant air, she could not sleep, she longed for company. Even when in the wild, the child who had been dubbed Daux had the company of others, the feline-pack she had been part of. Now she wanted nothing more than to find the one she'd connected to in these alien surroundings, where the birds could not be heard, nor the breeze, or the rustle of leaves overhead. Where everything was enclosed, and sunshine could not touch her.

The child crawled to the door in a last ditch attempt at finding a way out. To begin with she scratched at it, whimpering further when it did not work, when it failed to open. "Jaa" she cried, almost akin to a mew, "Fuuurrryy." Nuzzling her face into the door she began to purr, rubbing up against the door which stood in her way.

Miraculously the door eventually opened in response to her movements, and the child was able to crawl out of the dormitory to seek Jaxton or Thurion, whichever she stumbled across first. The hall was eerie, and had Daux jumping at every shadow that so much as moved, cast by the trees outside of the windows. Still on Tython, she was used to waking up and heading straight outside, provided Thurion hadn't decided to wait for her. Then the pair would spend time curled up until they had to leave the dormitory.

Finally she made it to one of the rooms, remembering the way by retracing steps she had taken several times before. Purring noisily she began to rub up against the door, which was far more responsive than her own, which had been put on a more secure setting for her own safety. Inside she padded, spotting Thurion lay asleep. The child crawled over, hearing the whoosh of the door closing behind her. When she neared the bed she lowered her chin down, wiggled her bottom... And leapt up onto the bed, directly ontop of Thurion's chest. She began to pad around, before curling up there, although no doubt she had awoken her best friend. "Fuurrry" she murmured, nuzzling into his chest.

With a groan the boy awoke, and to his pleasant surprise he found his favourite friend nestling into his chest. "Hello, Kitty", he whispered before planting a delicate kiss on her forehead. He was about to ask how she'd gotten past her and his door, but decided against it. She'd done it before, and as she was unable to answer each time he'd ask about it, he figured there was little point in doing so. Her hands were cold as they touched lightly upon his chest, sending a chilling sensation throughout his entire being. Her hair was all messy and entangled, as always, despite his and many other's attempts on keeping it neat and clean. But Thurion had nothing against doting on his friend, and promptly started untangle her many long strands of hair, much to the girl's enjoyment. As she purred at his touch in a way no human being could despite their best efforts, the boy marvelled at her affection towards him. Often he'd see her behave very territorial towards the other padawans, as she would corner herself and whimper for her Furry or Master Jaxton to come and rescue her.

Thurion placed a hand on her cheek, lovingly caressing it as his other tried in vain to sort out her hair. Her purring was hypnotising, and made him wish to go back to sleep. But he found it hard now that his friend was here to keep him company, and now he'd rather stay up with her instead. He gently scootched her over to the side of him just for a moment, so that he could put the cover over both of them. Having done so, she quickly assumed her original position on top of him. Thurion didn't mind, as she was both shorter and much lighter than himself. How one such as she could exist he knew not, but he was very grateful that she had chosen him to rely on, as a safehaven of sorts. The feeling was much appreciated, and he felt the same way about her. The gentle sounds she made would always succeed in relaxing and calming him, even when already winded down. She was something else, his dear Kitty.

Not once did the child stop her purring, her head nuzzling up against Thurion's, chin brushing up against the side of his cheek while she resumed her padding of his chest. A smile was present upon her lips, an effect her Furry usually had upon her, he made her feel safe and content. Finally she settled again, and proceeded to curl down upon his chest, nuzzling at the hand which brushed through her tangles. Rather than bite her beloved Furry she allowed him to continue, finding it extremely soothing. "Fuurryy" she whispered, nudging her head against his chest. Now that she was with him she felt herself becoming slowly reinfluenced by fatigue, yet she refused to sleep, not now she had her Thurion. She had seriously become attached t the young Padawan.

When his hand was settled to her cheek her eyes closed and the purring intensified, her head turning into the hand which lay there. But suddenly she was moved, and a slight whimper left her, worrying that she had done something wrong, that her Furry wanted her to go, tha-- Suddenly she was wrapped into the warm covers, pressed into his chest. Crawling back up ontop of him she curled up, keeping her tiny body restricted to his chest alone. Purrs began to reverberate from her, the physical contact between the pair was cherished by the tiny little girl who thought she was a cat. During times like these she forgot all the loss in her past, the pack she had grown amidst, who had been killed over time until only she and one other remained. Jaxton had saved her, the blue-furred friend she saw daily, but no one had helped her brother.

Recalling the horrific events she began to whimper more so, a low and saddened sound which was sombre and mournful. Hiding her face against her Furry she tried to calm herself down, and within a few minutes the whimpers all but disappeared as she fell into the lure of his heartbeat...

Noticing her sudden whimpers, he immidietly wrapped his arms around her for consolence. She seemed upset at something, but unfortunately she couldn't tell him why, for obvious reasons he already knew. "It's okay, Kitty", he said with a hushed voice, just before yawning. "I'm here for you, always." Continuing to fuss about with her hair, trying to make it as neat he could, Thurion then started humming for her, just as she would lay herself upon his heart. His tunes were cheerful ones, from a song he'd heard Asha sing to herself once. He couldn't understand the lyrics or the language, but he remembered the melodies and the rythm with which Asha'd used. "You know, when I was even smaller, my... my brother used to hum for me whenever I couldn't sleep. He never failed to make me feel safe and comfortable." For once Thurion had managed to think of his past without shedding tears over what happened. He continued his humming, this time singing one of the songs his brother used to sing for him, in another life.

Time went by as Furry and his Kitty would just lay in bed together, her nestled up atop his chest, her ear to his heart. Neither of them had been able to sleep this whole time, as it was spent cuddling and grooming one another; Thurion would pet her hair, her cheeks and her neck, behind the ears. Daux would sometimes return the favour by licking he's chest, which never failed to make the boy laugh hysterically. Not only because he was dreadfully ticklish were she'd lick him, but mostly just because of her doing it to him. It was strange, but funny-strange, he'd always think. He really did love his Kitty, and from the look of it she loved him back just as much. It made him think back to the forest where he'd met her, witnessed her transformation and when they'd keep eachother warm until they both went back to the Jedi Temple, before they ended up curled up together in a hidden spot all night. From that moment the two of them truly were unseparable.

Daux felt the comforting embrace of her beloved Furry and could not help but murmur and purr in response, slowly finding herself to have calmed down; it wasn't that she forgot her family, and what had happened, the pack who had raised her as their own... It was merely that she had come to accept it, as much as it pained her. Furry helped, a lot; he was a rock which kept her grounded and in place. She rarely resorted to using her second skin as a defence mechanism, not when he was there with her. His warm embrace was more than enough to settle her back down. For now she just continued to listen to the steady thump-thump of her beloved Furry's heart, murmuring his 'name' several times in a short space of time. "T-Ta oo" she whispered to him, the only word she had said outside of "Ki" and "Furry" to the boy so far. It wasn't much but it was some small amount of progress.

Softly she began to pad at his chest, nuzzling at it, licking at it, every so often nipping the skin affectionately with her teeth. Her Furry meant everything to her. "Furry" she whimpered when the sun began to rise, and she burrowed her face into his chest. She knew what it meant - soon their special, sacred time together would be broken by the rousing of others in the Temple and their duties. She didn't want that, she wanted to remain here where she felt safe in his embrace. Keeping her face hidden it was almost as though she were denying the rising of the sun; she wanted it to remain forever the night - their night.
