In-Hoth-spitable: Training on Hoth

A message had been sent out on routine First Order channels. An opportunity, once in a lifetime. "Come join us on Hoth. Learn invaluable skills from the First Order's most elite". An advertisement from the First Order Security Bureau (FOSB) for advanced training. The programme took not just applicants for the Bureau, but troopers from the military and naval branches. There were a lot of soldiers hoping to to attend, but were naive to how the FOSB worked. There was a screening process; and they only took the best and brightest.

Luther had sweated all through his interview, the white-walled room spooking him more than a battlefield. He had passed somehow and had made it to Hoth. Now he wished he had an excuse to sweat. The air was frigid, even in the hangar. He stamped his feet, trying to get some warmth back into his numb toes. Looking around, he saw that there were less than he originally estimated. The FOSB didn't pick their trainees lightly then.

Despite earlier background checks, there was still a lengthy pass through customs. Identification was checked, forms were signed, and promises were made. There was a check for equipment, but Luther hadn't brought much. He figured he wanted to learn in what he wore most, his tank crew armour. He'd not brought along his heavy pack however, and they were forbidden to bring weapons onto the site.

Their instructor hadn't arrived yet, so the group gathered around. The was some casual chatter, some forced laughs. Opportunities like could make and break a career. There were a lot of troopers who had risked their positions in order to join the FOSB. Not for the first time Luther was glad that all he did was pilot walkers. He took off his helmet, gasping as the cold air rushed in. The air felt even colder now that it touched his bare skin. Why, of all the places, did the training have to be on Hoth?
[member="Emilia Ravel"] ~ [member="Kito Askmar"]

FOSB training, he couldn't believe he had actually managed to work his way in as someone from outside the first order. I guess being able to work yourself into places you didn't really belong was something they looked for in an applicant, and it had not been easy. The screening process had been hell, with the amount of bribes and favours he had to pull to get them to overlook the times he had, not exactly been on their side of the fight, he had been left him with next to no leverage in the FO. something that along with having his weapons taken off him left him feeling very uneasy. But finally, he had made it to Hoth.

Kito pulled his thick fur coat in tighter as he stepped of the shuttle into the hanger, he was in one of the last groups to arrive. He could see the other trainees all in a group not far from the hanger doors and started to make his way towards them. Might as well get to know the competition, you never know what might come in handy. Kito noticed that the majority of the trainees here were from other departments within the FO, he could clearly pick out a few pilots as well as troopers and marines and almost all were wearing their sections armour. Kito felt a tinge of regret he had just worn civilian clothes and not one of armour sets he had picked up on a job as he stuck out like a sore thumb amongst them all, but he brushed it aside reasoning that at least he was far warmer than the lot of them.

The others were friendly enough and it wasn't long before they started to talk comfortably with him, seems having all gone through the recruitment process they all had a bit of respect for each other. They were all standing around waiting for their trainer to come along, and some of them who had gotten here early have been standing in the cold for a few hours now. Kito nudged the man next to him, a tank crewman by the name of Luther, to see if he knew anything about who their trainer was, as this had been kept secret throughout the entire process.

The FOSB Archives
Hoth, 0730 hours.

If there was anything that could be said about the Security Bureau Archives, it was that they were extensive. The facility was a mess of hundreds of corridors and sublevels. Emilia had spent the last several months traversing them, sometimes alone, sometimes with company. Often on business, but also often just to wander around. It had taken until recently for a layout to begin forming in her head. Still, she was nowhere close to knowing her way around the various tunnels and side rooms that surrounded the main sections like strands of a might spiderweb. Especially in the Operations Level, there the layout was so confusing she often required a guide, and many of the tunnels weren't even listed on the map.

The facility was impressive. Brand new, and outfit with the latest in First Order technology, from sophisticated sensors and E-WAR defences to climate control technology, designed to keep the elements from taking their toll on the base's infrastructure. Hoth was a difficult place to get used to, Emilia had to spend almost all her time inside, protected from the cold. In her occasional travels to the Walker Bay or Main Hangar, the cold always caught her off guard. Despite many layers, the chill wind and icy air always had a way of getting to you.

With a quiet hum, the turbolift raced towards the ground floor, where a short hallway lead into the Main Hangar. She stepped off, nodding to aknowledge the salutes of the two Stormtroopers on guard at the door. The doors opened with a hit, the warm, humid air in the hallway immediately condensing into drifting clouds of mist, from which Emilia emerged, dressed in a dark Security Bureau uniform, her hair tied back in a neat ponytail.

With a warm smile, she adressed the gaggle of trainees, arrayed loosely in a small group at the entrance to the hangar. "Good morning recruits, I am Site Director Ravel, I run this installation, and I will be surpervising your training. First off, are there any questions before we begin the tour?"

Asheda had not been to Hoth before, and a summit for members of the FOSB was probably the one thing that had led her to visit the frozen tundra of a planet. Though technically apart of the FOSB the young Togutra had not been officially introduced to the organizations operations or any of their major basses of operations, spending most of her time on Mustafar in Vaders castle when returning from mission abroad. As such a change of location, pace and people was quite welcome, she just hopped her former membership of the Jedi Order was not something people picked up on easily, though the Ren seemed impartial or didn't care she did not know how other would take it, specifically those brought up with the who, 'Jedi are evil and corrupt propaganda'.

Though the whole training summit and event was taking place today Asheda had arrived a week ago to try and get an idea for the layout of the new facility, in short it did not help, the place was massive, even with a map it was hard to navigate, once or twice losing herself to the maze of corridors. Fortunately Asheda had gotten enough memorized to always have a route back to the main hanger which proved useful as new of the new trainees came in, sure she herself was pretty much a trainee, but it would still be interesting to see the new recruits.

The door to her trubo lift opened with its usual hiss and swooping sound, followed by the exotic blue skinned woman stepping out into the large open space as the new members disembarked, some where pilots, others military or field agents, most seemed friendly and up beat, certainly a crowd she could hang with. Despite the rift raft for of mood things seemed to calm down on the arrival of Site Director [member="Emilia Ravel"], the woman giving a warm a welcoming smile to those present, a smile Asheda could not help but wonder what it might have been hiding.

As for questions she had non at the moment, more a tag along with the tour as well as a supervisor, make sure no pesky newbie tried anything silly, as well as potential counter spies, though such a event seemed very unlikely.

Luther jumped slightly as the man next to him nudged him. He raised an eyebrow at the other trainee. The cool light of the hangar bounced off his dirty-blonde hair and bright-green eyes stared down at Luther. "Know anything about who are trainer might be?" the man asked. Luther shrugged, fiddling with his helmet. "No idea, these people like their secrets. Most likely the Director will send some underling". He shivered again and decided to pop his helmet back on.

He spotted a new arrival, a blue-skinned Togruta. She mingled with the crowd easily, but Luther hadn't seen her disembark with the rest of the trainees. Curious. He turned back to the blonde man, envious of his warm coat. He stuck out his hand to introduce himself. "I'm Luther" he said, surprised at how tough the man was squeezing his hand. His looked down to see a robotic hand gripping his own. The man introduced himself as [member="Kito Askmar"]. Luther opened his mouth to ask about the arm, but was interrupted by a short red-haired woman who addressed the crowd.

Much to his surprise, she introduced herself as [member="Emilia Ravel"], Site Director for the FOSB archives. That was interesting; Luther found in his experience that officers didn't like to slum it with the troopers. That was the Army though, and it didn't always make much sense. Ravel ended her speech, asking if there were any questions. Luther resisted an urge to quip "Why Hoth?", and instead shook his head. He would have to get used to the cold soon, or he'd be miserable for the rest of the training.

[member="Asheda Tyr"]

Kito smiled broadly at [member="Luther Ando"] as he squeezed his hand, he forgot the strength that arm had sometimes, but he still enjoyed the effect it had on people. However before he could say anything else he was cut off. Director [member="Emilia Ravel"], the name rung a bell but Kito couldn't quite place it, but it seemed that she was in charge here as everyone bar a few of the recruits stood to attention as she walked in. A few of the well meaning recruits asked their questions, what is this place and so forth. Everyone else kept their thoughts to themselves knowing that all they would need to know would be explained to them on this tour she mentioned.

Thinking about the tour, this didn't seem like the biggest of bases, but Kito suspected that there would be level upon level beneath his feat, considering how inhospitable the surface is. And depending on just how important this base was, and they probably wouldn't see or be able to access half of it.

While pondering what secrets this place may hold, not really paying much attention to the director, he noticed the Torguta that had appeared off to one side. She hadn't been their just before, and she definitely did not look like a recruit. Maybe she had managed to worm her way in just as he did. Either way he be keeping an eye on her and the Director till he could figure out where they stand with in all this.

For now it was just time to sit back and follow along the tour as he was very curious about what they would learn and find here on this base.

Emilia's eyes surveyed the group. "No questions then. Excellent, we'll move right along. Let's get out of the cold shall we?" She spun on her heel, walking back the way she came in, and swiping her keycard on the door. Stepping through, she waited as the loose group of new recruits shuffled in, arranging themselves in a line in the hallway. Behind her, the door to the hangar descended back down, closing with a hiss. A moment later came the familiar thud as the locks fell into place, securing the blast door. It was often quipped that it weould take all the Jedi in the Galactic Alliance to cut through one of the doors to the Archives. Emilia didn't know how true that was, but they seemed to do the trick.

The recruits followed her into the turbolift, a large box of polished steel and shining metal floor panels. The doors closed smoothly, and with a quiet hum the lift rocketed them down, arriving at Deck B in a matter of moments. The air was noticably different as the group stepped out into the corridor. It was a lot warmer, the interior of the base was carefully climate controlled. While it didn't have the same crisp freshness as the Hoth air, the air conditioned environment was always a welcome change from the frigid outdoors. The corridor here was narrower than the one on the ground floor, and the lighting slightly more muted. All along the corridor ran a series of reinforced doors, and several other corridors branched out from the main artery.

"Welcome to Records Department Alpha, we're currently 25m underground, on Deck B, Sublevel 2. This is the largest department on our site, and contains the most extensive Security Bureau logistical records in the Galaxy." She paused as an agent strolled past, stopping at one of the doors. The man swiped his keycard, then placed a hand on the door, whuch swung open in response. "As you can see," said Emilia. "Department Alpha is our busiest, as it contains all of our civilian files. If you're looking for someone who's been investigated or arrested, you'll find them here." Emilia looked around proudly. "Are there any questions about Department Alpha before we move on?"

Luther wasn't as green as some of the other trainees, he'd been in some sticky situations. The terror attack on Yalara was bad, the air thick with smoke and confusion. He'd also worked in the medical tent during the invasion of Ossus, holding down screaming troopers with missing limbs. In both situations though, he'd been in control. He hadn't let the nerves get the best of him.

He had difficulty holding back the nerves now. Soldiers were a supertious lot; good at fighting what was in front of them, but wary of what they couldn't see. It didn't help that the FOSB had a reputation too. Brutal yet efficient, they had their fingers in everything. Most common soldiers only knew them as a fairy tale, spooks that kidnapped you as soon as you showed a hint of dissent. They were like the monster under your bed.

He shivered, for reasons other than the cold. They were in a records department, and his eyes boggled at the huge amount of tech in the room. A thought struck him. 'They probably have my file here somewhere" his thoughts seemed loud in the quiet of the Department. 'And on it is labelled: "Visited Archives, may know sensitive information" '. That wouldn't look so good if he came up for investigation. He better not get into trouble.

Ravel asked if there were any questions and Luther shook his head. If this place unnerved him so, then why did he apply to be here? He figured that if you thought there was a monster under the bed, the only thing you could do was look.

Asheda noticed the several gazes that the newcomer was giving her, probably wondering who this new woman was and how she got onto the base before everyone else. Well she did not really look the part of an agent, let alone someone with any authority, but if there was one thing that anyone should learn about the FOSB, it was looks can be, and are often enough misleading, something Asheda was quite skilled in.

She followed close to the group, though a little off to the side as they made their way further and deeper into the base, the atmosphere quickly changing to a more accommodating temperature. So far it seemed most of the recruits where well behaved, no one trying any silly tricks, no one attempting to wander off, which was good, as it allowed Asheda to pay closer attention to the tour, and maybe pick up on some things she missed on her first visit.

Soon the group came to the first record department, the main hub for most of the data collected and stored by the FOSB, Asheda was quite surprised by the extent of information gathered here, even more so on herself. Though for sure her own report had left quite a few things out, mainly being private endeavours and secret events, no one was around for, what was on her profile still seemed remarkable. I was a humour to see some of the current recruits shiver a bit or look nervousness, no doubt the same thoughts on what the FOSB had on them, specifically those from other branches that would no doubt have a very detailed profile, the FOSB no skipping out on any detail when review potential agents.

Xavier Payne

Serving the Supreme Leader's justice
Xavier had been able to pass the interview to come to the FOSB Hoth facility. Xavier joked that he only passed because the FOSB just wanted to have an executioner trooper at the facility if it turned out their was a traitor amongst the attendees. While Xavier didn't want to join the FOSB he atleast wanted to know how they worked because he was sure one day he would have to work with the FOSB with dealing with traitors or something like that.

When Xavier finally got to the station he was wearing his White and Black Judicial Stormtrooper Armour but sadly due to security restrictions he was missing his Laser Ax which made him feel il equipped and out of uniform. Getting pasted customs was a bit of a hassle as some of the security had a hard time believing the First Order had Stormtroopers the size of Xavier and had to recheck the system just to make sure. After a while Xavier finally finished with customs and was allowed to enter the facility.

While waiting for the Site Director Xavier saw some strange people who he all dwarfed with the first person he saw was another Stormtrooper in a tanker uniform with a medical symbol on it "Does he think running someone over with a tank is going to help them" Xavier thought to himself, Next Xavier saw someone in civilian grab and wondered how the hell he got past the FOSB interview and finally out of all the attendees Xavier saw a Togutra "She ain't even near-human" Xavier said under his breath. After a bit the Site Director finally came.

For the first part of the tour Xavier said nothing like the his fellow attendees but once it came to the second part pf the tour at Records Department Alpha Xavier had to ask a simple question for a person in his line of work. "Do your records show who are traitors and need to be made an example of or is that another section of the facility?"

Kito followed along with the group into the archives, he didn’t like being underground, harder to escape should he need to.
But, these archives definitely caught his attention, how easy it would be hunting down his hits if he had all this information on them. The days he would have been spared from sitting in cantinas waiting for someone to show, or trying to track down whatever sort of informant some backwards planets had.

It crossed his mind that they probably had a file on him, but that didn’t matter much. Kito didn’t have any family for them to use against him and his file would just be one amongst the sea of files that they would have.
He wondered if they would end up having access to the archives if this training was successful and what else they might be privy to after all this.

Kitos’ train of thought was interupted by what looked like an executioner troop as he called out to see what information they had on traitors and the like. Why a trooper like that would want to join the FOSB was beyond Kito but at least they would keep the attention away from those who didn’t want it. Which suited Kito perfectly fine.

Emilia nodded absentmindedly at the Execution Trooper as he asked his question. She was already thinking about the mounting pile of papers scattered along her desk. There were many other important things that she needed to be doing, this training session was the first item on an ever growing list of obligations that urgently required her attention. "Traitors huh? Yeah, if you're looking for a known enemy of the Order, you'll find it here. Now, let's get a wriggle on. TIme's a wasting." Emilia shuffled the group back into the turbolift, its doors closing with a familiar hiss.

A few moments later, it passed Sublevel 9 of Deck B, and Emilia stepped forward. "We've just passed Records Department B, it contains some of the FOSBs most secure information. Access to this area is highly restricted, so we can't go inside." Her voice trailed off, and she stayed silent as they zipped past Department C, they didn't need to know about that floor.

Finally, the Turbolift arrived at the Operations level, and Emilia stepped out into a wide, low, and plain passage. Dull white lights ran along its length to the left and right, where the tunnel eventually curved into the distance. In the centre of the ceiling, a track followed the passage around. "Welcome to the Operations Level. This is the heart of the facility, and our most extensive deck. We'll be taking the monorail to the training facility. It'll be here in a minute." Even as her voice trailed off, the rumbling could be heard in the tracks, and the shining steel car of the monorail rounded the corner towards them.

Luther wasn't sure how he had missed the Judicial trooper before, but he could definitely spot him now. The man was massive, Luther was surprised there was armour large enough to fit him. The man asked if they had records on traitors and [member="Emilia Ravel"], looking tired and frustrated, gave a short and terse reply. He studied the man. "One-track mind" he thought. Specialists like execution troopers often got so focused on their jobs, that sometimes it was all they thought about.

They continued through different departments, but Luther quickly lost interest. He moved past [member="Kito Askmar"], giving him a quick nod, and moved to the big guy's side. "Your not a hopeful are you?" he asked. "Because, no offense, you aren't really that inconspicuous". He moved to stick out his hand to shake, but pulled it back at the last second. His hand would get crushed in his grip. "I'm Luther, tank crewman and occasional medic". He cleared his throat. "I like to know who I'm training with. Who might you be?"

Xavier was hoping for a bit more information when he asked his question but he should have expected a simple anwser for a simple question. Xavier did hope to see how the archives worked but it seemed Emilia wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible for some unknown reason probably work related. They were on their way to where ever the monorail takes them.

While waiting for the monorail the medic in tanker armour decided to come and talk to Xavier and first thing he does is question why Xavier is here at Hoth. Xavier was going to ignore the medic until he offered his hand for a hand shake which made Xavier think Luther was just having a joke until just before Xavier could give Luther a handshake Luther decides to pull his hand back and seemingly not in a joking manner. "This piece of poodoo is mocking me" Xavier thought.

"Let me ask you something Luther when you first saw me here when you entered this facility did you think I was one of the facility's judicial troopers on standby or did you know I was an attendiee like you and you think I don't look like FOSB material since I stick out like a sore thumb so their would be no way the FOSB would have someone like me work for them which means there is a low chance someone who is against the FOSB would realise I'm in it. Anyway my name is Xavier Hane son of Moff Delian Hane so I suggest next time you decide to Kark with me and question why I am here I will inform my father Moff and he will have a word with you and your future in the First Order"

Xavier of course lied at the end but Luther pissed him off and He wanted to make sure the medic would do that again. Of course Xavier didn't want to truely join the FOSB but he didn't want to let Luther know about that but Xavier was sure tricking Luther would give him some shot at joining the FOSB if he changed his mind.

Asheda kind of felt a bit off about [member="Xavier Payne"], sure it made sense that they would want someone with his, 'wiliness' to eliminate targets on broad, but at the same time it felt like such a person with his skills would be more suited to stay in the military and deal with problems and threats as they arose. Though the young Togruta could only smiles and slightly cringe at the mention of him wanting to look through the records and pick out people that needed to be axed, his eagerness a little concerning, but at the same time a little funny.

She continued to stick close to the newbies as they kept up the tour passing several other sections, not going in but [member="Emilia Ravel"] explaining their roles, aside from department C, best that was kept away from prying eyes. Now all that was to be done was wait for the monorail to arrive, perhaps that would be one of the things they needed to upgrade in this almost perfect facility, more rail systems, even more so with the war kicking off and the FOSB more alive then ever. Speaking of alive, it seemed mister executioner and Tank guy had gotten into an argument of some sort, earning a sight from Asheda, she had hoped the day would have gone smoothly with no altercations... why was she always wrong.

The somewhat scantly dressed Torugta approached the two as exchanged rather heated words, "Now now, there is no reason to fight, both of you need to be on your best behavior while here, it does not matter which part of the First Order you came from, your here for your own reasons and skills, and I would not like one of those skills to be 'gets into fights very easy'. It was said with a light heart and kind tone of voice, but also was stern and to the point, these two would need to act like professionals while here, or else.

Huse followed the other group of agents and trainees closely, uniform boots crunching with each step. She tried to hide how much the cold bothered her. There must be a reason for this - Hoth of all places. Another test? Getting here hadn’t been any walk in the park. A testament of her skill, she thought. The Chiss girl stayed quiet and loitered around the rear of the group, hands held behind her back. She listened intently and obediently—and then there was an argument. Huse let it be, only acknowledging it with a roll of her eyes. It wasn’t her place to intervene. She focused instead on her surroundings. The Archive. It was incredible. Huse cast a glance around and took it all in. The walls, the floor, the people around her. She made her own silent judgements about them. Now she was looking at Asheda.

Kito was bored, while the judicial trooper had caused a brief moment of entertainment in Department Alpha. He had expected the rest of the tour, lead by the much distracted [member="Emilia Ravel"], to be quite dull.
He would soon be proved wrong about that.

As they moved down to the operations level [member="Luther Ando"] walked past kito giving him a nod. 'I wonder what hes up to' Kito thought to himself as he watched Luther walk up to the giant of a man that was the judicial trooper.
Kito chuckled to himself as the man he now knew was named [member="Xavier Payne"] reacted rather defensively to the poor tank crewman who clearly wasn't sure how to approach the much larger man

Ever the bystander, Kito was content watching the squabble unfold, unless of course things got a little too handsy. Luther seemed like a nice enough fellow and he'd be a much better ally not torn in half.

It seemed there would be no need for him to step in anyway. The togruta from earlier quite confidently walked up to the pair and told them to sort themselves out. However just to be safe, Kito decided to walk up a little closer so he too could step in if needed, just a step or two behind Luther ready and waiting.
