Unlike most people waling the streets of Mondder, Kivah wasn't thinking about money. She wasn't quite feeling the pinch of a slim account just yet, and while more was always good, at the moment she was thinking back to the last time she'd been out this way. The massive earthquake that had opened the planet to its roots, and the shaky group of runners that had formed when a robbery of an underground corpo mall had turned into something more. Now she was back, and with someone else she'd begrudgingly begun to call a friend as well. Naamino needed credits, and when steady work wouldn't do, Kivah knew a quick dip into the shadows of corporate warfare would pay out quite handsomely. Risk merited reward, after all.

The reconstruction had finished long ago, at least this close to the spaceport, there were places in the city that would likely never fully recover from the earthquake, not unless a development project paved them over. But the city was still the same, built on the same bones and filled with the same people, even if the signs changed. So it wasn't long before the large Cathar found her way into a little dive that had a line of holographic dancers out front. Inside everything was painted black, floor, walls, ceiling, even the tables and booths, the better to see more holo projections act out their lives in never-ending loops. Crossing the sticky floor, she signaled a Rodian for drinks, and paid out a small credchit when she brought them over to the back booth Kivah had staked out.

Despite the tan military style jacket and the synthweave pants she wore being Kivah's only concession to silly ideas like blending in, or that she was obviously armed, Kivah didn't stand out too much. For one thing, they were in a runner bar, and for another, the sun was just dipping behind the horizon, which meant the city's nightlife was starting to come crawling out. Between the punks, gangers, and clubbers, the Cathar's size drew more attention than what she wore. Natch, some of the other runners even sported neon tattoos or hair. Each was a walking advertisement to their own ability or reputation. "First time to a city this big?" She asked Naamino as she tipped back her beer. "Vardin really doesn't compare, does it?" Her ears laid back as the track turned over to a new song that started heavy on the clashing before the singer picked up. She wasn't the best on the small talk, but it was that or drink while they waited, and she didn't want to be too drunk when the client showed. "Oh hey! Have you thought of a handle yet? You know, a street name so you're a little harder to track." Kivah's was Kivah, because she was just like that.

Corporate Sector

Etti IV
Objective: Replenish coffers

To deny his nerves would be counterproductive. Instead, the young zabrak decided that this was as good an opportunity as any to practice control in the face of the unknown. He'd signed up for this after all, willingly and even eagerly thrown himself into the task of taking a job with his friend Kivah Kivah who'd so helpfully offered to make sure he could stay in the green.

Still, despite the mastery he showed in stoicism, Naami wasn't willing to risk intoxicants and he certainly didn't have the extra credits to spend either. So the teen made due with water as he practiced controlled breath as his icy eyes seemed to dart to every little change in the busy environment.

"Uhm... Yeah definitely."

He murmured back, not one for small talk either.

"Don't think I'm a city guy to be honest, Tebori was was more my speed."

Naami shifted his feet, leaning a bit to affect and air of calm disinterest in the rest of the bar even though his reflexes were keyed up as if a fight might break out any moment.

"Some people call me Horns, but I'd rather that stay a friendly thing," he thought absently of Leshanna Dromar Leshanna Dromar and Haro Aven Haro Aven before continuing on.

"Dunno really. Is it supposed to be something that stands out? I feel like probably it's meant to be more forgettable since we don't wanna draw attention, yeah? Uh... The Zabrak?"

He was clearly uncertain if that was even close to what she was asking him for, dark brows drawing together in a face of mild bemusement.

Naami's first admission had Kivah snorting in amusement around her mouthful of beer, painfully swallowing to keep it from going up her nose. After a moment to control herself, she nodded in agreement. "Yeah, even after Coruscant this place was like needles under the skin for a long while. But you hang around long enough, and it's like a hit. Gives you a rush that you start longing for after too long away. Full of movement and life despite the never ending mirrsteel and duracrete expanse." Even the misery and drudgery had an honesty to it she appreciated as it played a background rhythm to the punks acting out in their rejection of corporate society.

She was about to offer a few suggestions to him about his actually pretty bad choice of street handles and how they shouldn't be helpful identifiers, when a Bothan slid into the chair opposite her with a nod. He had a shock of white running from his eye to over his ear and looked to be a good decade or two older than most of the others in the bar. "Kivaaah, always an interesting week when you come to me for work. Kid looks a little young for you, new partner?" He favored the both of them with a toothy smile that stretched his snout.

"Grendu," Kivah returned his nod with a smile of her own and reached across the table to tap her knuckles against his. "This is... Hound. He's solid, but learning the ropes here. Looking for a job." She nudged Naamino and jerked her head over to the Bothan. "This is Grendu, he's a Fixer, serves as a go-between for clients and mercs, sorta like a talent agent. Vets the client and jobs while making sure runners don't get in over their head."
A low-whistle sounded from Grendu. "Damn Kivah, you said he was new but..." He shook his head. "Really? Not even the basics?" The way he asked, it was like he expected Kivah to be messing with him and Kivah flipped him a rude gesture in response.
"I vouch, and I want a job. Tell me what you've got open. And no milk runs, if I'm splitting a reward, I want it to be a good one."

With a shrug and a look towards Naamino, the Bothan held up three fingers, curling them in as he counted off the available work. "Got a snatch job, wetwork that sounds like it's a turf thing, and a data steal. Each pays more'n the last, but likely more dangerous." He looked to Kivah, who looked to Naamino to decide.

Naami was skeptical about the idea that a city like this would grow on him, regardless of whatever rush or exhilaration it might offer. He wasn't surprised that might be the case for Kivah Kivah though, she was quite literally built different and was basically meant for such high octane environments.

At the appearance of the Bothan, Naamino grew cool and stoic. Icy eyes considered the fixer and narrowed at the jab about Naami looking young for Kivah. He remained silent though and let his friend do the talking. He gave no outward acknowledgement of the "Hound" but experienced no small amount of amusement because the name brought Myunnah Myunnah to mind. The zabrak felt grateful to Kivah for the hand gesture she threw casually at Grendu even though he knew he was out of his depth, it felt nice to have the cathar vouch for him.

When the choices were presented and it became clear that Kivah expected him to pick, Naami drew in a slow breath before leaning in to quietly respond.

"Can we have more details about the last two? Or is this the kinda deal where we only get to know more after we've chosen?"

The teen was of course still feeling trepidation about the whole experience, but he needed the credits and a sense of resolve was settling over him. Naami could sense himself putting his mind into that of this "Hound" person, much like when he donned armor before a battle.

"Eh, yah kid, I've got a little more." Grendu said. "Turf thing, what I'm calling a turf thing, is because a Trando just wiggled his way outta the lock-up. Word is that he's putting together a little gang or team. Could be something else," he shrugged, "but a killing like this means he's stepping on someone's toes or someone he betrayed wants theirs back. The other is a corpo thing, they never say it, but you can always tell. Target is another corp, and you're going to delete a certain project and make sure it doesn't take up again. Pretty dangerous. Pay's good though, but this sort of thing is usually big leagues, class-A running teams." The Bothan spread his hairy hands, "That's all you get up front. Have to respect privacy."

Kivha put her empty beer down on the table. "I really wouldn't mind either. I know how to not put a target on my back for the corps, and I'll be disappearing again for a bit again anyways." Faces were an ever shifting ocean in these places, where few formed steady rocks or islands like landmarks. Grendu and his bar was one of them, even having stayed open through riots and the earthquake. No one here knew Kivah was an acolyte, her few friends knowing she liked to move about, either to Cantonica or to look for work on the hundred more worlds of the Corporate Sector Authority. Nobody would question her disappearing again for a while, and those that mattered knew how to get a hold of her. "The turf fight sounds like a pretty stand-up fight, quick, no real surprises except what we bring. Corp-sec can be trouble and it pays to be a little sneaky on the way in. Not just massacre everyone. Of course, there could be some nice gear or other little gem in there." Kivah actually wasn't too sure how sneaky Naamino could be, or how he was feeling about all this. Speaking up, adding her two chits was a way to tell him her thoughts and maybe bring him some reassurances, though he sounded like he was getting his feet under him.

The zabrak listened intently, remaining stoic despite knowing he was somewhat out of his depth. A wave of relief washed over him when Kivah chimed in to give some hint at her thoughts on the matter. His hands flexed a bit, the black wraps about his wrists creaking slightly with the motion, then his mind was made.

"Right, let's go for it with the data steal."

His voice was low and steady, a hint at the man he'd become and was determinedly acting as if he was already.

The Bothan smiled and slid a data chip across the table. "Good choice. I'da been disappointed if you'd gone for the snatch." Leaning in, he continued as the bar's loud music and high-backed booth gave them privacy, even then, he double-checked the booth's privacy field. "Yer making a run on an Absalom subsidiary, word is they're developing a sentient intelligence." He eyed Hound. "Highly illegal here. Johnson wants the project ended, preferably by destroying critical materials and data. There's a bonus for extracting hard evidence of Absalom Group's complicity, but otherwise you're looking at a cool sixty large. Chip has the suspected address and last known blueprint of the building, along with a digital address you can drop off anything you collect for the bonus." Smiling, he looked between them. "Welcome to shadowrunning Hound. Don't get dead and you'll do alright." Cheerful advice dispensed, Grendu pushed himself up from the table and made for a backroom.

Kivah popped the chip into her portable computer and started a scan on it, "What do you think Naami? A.G. is basically one of the big ten corps running the CSA, basically a pmc that also pumps out guns and droids. Got so many fingers in so many pies, they're like one of those spiders sitting in the middle of a thousand webs." She paused, checked the read-out, moved the chip from one slot to another. "Actually you could say the same for most corps. But the point is my metaphors suck, but their security teams probably don't." Kivah didn't pull up the chip's info in the bar, she'd do that back on the Reaper where they could talk easier and without fear of being overheard or someone spotting the info before gearing up for the run.

Leaning back from the table a bit, Naami crossed his arms and listened. Still controlling his breathing and keeping his poly-rhythmic heart-rate down through practiced physiological mastery. He was a blunt object where the Force was concerned, but the zabrak had other more subtle qualities that helped to balance him out.

In truth, he knew he'd be in way over his horns if it weren't for Kivah Kivah guiding him, but he did have confidence in his general field work abilities. His cool gaze slid from the fixer over to his cathar friend as she chimed in. Naami mulled over her words briefly but didn't wait long to confirm.

"High stakes smash and grab," he murmured calmly, "Any luck and we'll be in another sector by the time that 'spider' takes note."

"That's the plan." Kivah agreed with an anticipatory smile as rose from the booth. Checking her stuff and the set of her blasters tucked in their shoulder rigs under her jacket, she waited for Naamino to join her before leaving the bar.

Back on the street, night had fully fallen to cast the world in neon and streetlight shattered darkness. Money never slept, and neither did Mondder. Lifers and Indents had simply changed shifts or given way to the night crowd as they blew off a day's stress or came alive under the veil of safety anonymity the darkness promised to provide. Then there were the crooks, gangers, and mercenaries that now counted Naamino among their number. They too never truly slept, but the night called to their kind the same way an early morning just repulsed them.

It was in this almost manic atmosphere of festival, business, and murder, that Kivah made her way back to the port to kit up on the Reaper Kai. Arriving back at her small home away from Korriban, she confirmed with GEM that nobody had messed with the ship, then she slotted the data chip into the holo projector and let it play as she changed. Street and aerial views of a small building in a row of similar offices played, along with a graph of suspected power consumption and thermal imaging. Something was blowing a ton of heat out the roof vents.

"I'd bet my left nut they've got the main server underground. Office is a front, lets people come and go like any other, But windows aren't secure even when kinked." Kivah said, more interested in the projection than the fact she was changing clothes. Cathar, especially the Denik like Kivah, weren't very inclined to things like modesty or prudishness. "We can take the speeders, stash them half a klick out, and then... Hmm, roof or loading dock? Oh, and let me know if you need to borrow a blaster or two. Best we don't let on we're a pair of Sith." She continued while pulling her self-made stealth suit up her legs. "Could get messy on return trips. Going to be taking my bow if you want to try the repeater. Otherwise, I've got the autos, a rifle, and the usual blasters."

With the near constant steadfast determination that the zabrak faced any challenge with, Naami mentally prepared himself for the mission ahead as the city passed them by. Wary eyes remained in motion, scanning around them as they made their way back to the ship. This city felt more wild to him than the jungles of Valrar, the native fauna more unpredictable too. Kivah though kept cool, so the zabrak followed suit.

Naami was also supremely focused on the projection, but did not share his friend's cavalier attitude about changing in front of others. He made no fuss but did pointedly keep his eyes glued to the mission details and kept the cathar out of his periphery. The boy raised a quizzical eyebrow at her odd use of anatomical colloquialism, but focused instead on the overall point she was getting to.

"Loading dock is closer to the end goal but definitely gonna be more heavily manned. Roof is about as far from the target as we can get but better opportunity for stealth," he mused aloud in an attempt to add to the conversation.

"I'm not what anyone would call stealthy, but I think I could keep up with either option."

Naami shifted a bit nervously as the topic of ranged weapons came up, but it would do him no good to hide crucial facts from Kivah.

"Uh... as for weapons, I'm actually complete bantha chit at shooting. Unless it's a Force blast or the armaments on a ship I'm flying... I really can't be relied upon to hit the broad side of a barn."

Still not looking her direction, Naami gave a little shrug and concluded.

"I won't use my sabers, like you say it would be too much a giveaway. But I'll need something martial- or else its raw Force use all the way. Might be able to pass off my blasts as ammunition., dunno though."

Naamino's confession threw Kivah, leaving her stunned for a moment. He couldn't shoot? She rubbed her temples with a heavy sigh. "Okay, we'll teach you sometime. For now you can use my repeater. You're pretty strong, so you should be able to manage. It's all about covering fire and walking it onto target anyways. Also concussion blasts if you charge them." She favored him with a grin. "You can see why it's my most favorite blaster ever."

The rest of the younger Zabrak's assessment was pretty spot on too, with valid concerns. "You'd be surprised at how easy stealth is. A lot of it is just not making noise or standing out." At least when you weren't dealing with animals that could sniff you out, or slam hounds... "Which reminds me. Got something for you before we set out." Kivah got up from where she'd finished changing and made her way over to one of the ship's storage lockers. Pulling out a cloth wrapped bundle, she passed it off to Naamino. "Made one for an assassin for the gift exchange thing on Sithmas. Figured you could use one too. Based it off of the tech masks a lot of runners use to hide their identity and like them, it has some neat extras added in. Should even link up with the Erebus and help with your aiming problem."

Inside the bundle, Naamino would find a shadow mask made just for him. Or more aptly, a helmet that could have the front taken off and worn as a mask if he wasn't worried about the rest of his head showing. It would protect his hearing in a firefight, provide a few vision modes, along with other conveniences Kivah thought he'd find useful in the field as a Sith or mercenary. "I've already got the comm linked up with mine, so we've got secure communications if we need them. Otherwise, don't take anything that broadcasts. Absalom probably has a slicer or two on site, and you don't want them crashing our network." Kivah had seen and heard tell of more than one group that had all the latest and greatest gear wired up on a tac net or left unsecured before it all shut down or turned against them. For the fortunate it just became useless, other's it was the death of.

Giving him time to familiarize himself or change gear if he wanted to, Kivah made her way back into the Reaper's bay where the ship's small armory was located and adjusted her own load out. First she took the composite compound bow that replaced the one she broke during her trials, along with a generous quiver of arrows which she picked out for the mission. Her blasters were carried over from her previous outfit, flash goggles were slipped on and comm link tucked under the shielding of the sleeve along her forearm before she picked out the Erebus heavy repeater and a spare power pack for Naami. If they needed more than a thousand rounds, they were screwed anyways, and she'd prefer not to weigh him down too much.

He'd finally turned to take a sidelong look at her, realizing she was clothed again and wanting badly to gauge her reaction. Naami winced a little, giving a small shrug as if to say "whoops" but was grateful Kivah Kivah didn't seem to consider his lack of skill in that area to be dire. Dark eyebrows raised in surprise and he turned fully toward her as she revealed that she'd gotten him a gift.

"Geez, Kiv... really appreciate it," he said rather timidly, "All that you've been doin' to help me, I mean."

The teen unwrapped it and turned the mask over in his hands with awe. Listening as his cathar friend explained, the zebra nodded in understanding and a continued sense of gratitude. This gear would serve him well in a number of ways and his mind was already running with the possibilities.

They were soon back to business though and Naami took the moment of privacy he was given, to change over into an all black, layered outfit and tried on the mask. Familiarizing himself with its functions a bit, and testing out some basic full range body movements in his current outfit, Naami soon made his way back to Kivah.

"Right, uhm- ready as I'll ever be."

It was his first slip of anything other than calm stoicism of bravado. Indeed, the zabrak looked slightly nervous but certainly not in the way that gave the impression he might back out. No, it was more like the bearing of someone facing a test for which they'd studied and practiced but was now facing the real deal.

Kivah's ear dipped in acknowledgement of the thanks, but she didn't turn from her preparations or bother navigating her feelings to let it turn into a sappy moment. The other students were pretty close, as far as Sith went, but after years of putting up barriers it felt weird to let another in as a friend even as she looked out after them.

He came back, decked out in all black and looking mean in the new mask in such a way that brought a cocky grin to Kivah's face. "Right, now you look like a proper villain." Kivah tossed him a mag key and pointed to her first speeder bike where it was sitting in the rear bay between its storage rack and the entrance ramp, then realized that the shadowsilk of her suit was making the gesture near-impossible to see in the dimmer lighting. "Take the bobber, don't stop for the boys in brown." Swinging her own leg into her own saddle on her stolen racing swoop and pulling her goggles down, Kivah gunned it down the ramp and out into the night, an invisible rider on a black bike.

The low buildings around the spaceport were left behind, and they were soon zooming through the taller buildings of Mondder, weaving through traffic lanes and the occasional hologram spanning between the buildings. They could have taken the ship, but there were laws about heavy vehicles and it was far more conspicuous than the pair of them on speeder bikes. Kivah wanted to keep coming planet side and travel the Corporate Sector unhindered, best not have her ship associated with what they were about to do.

Coming in low over the rooftops as they approached their target building and Kivah set down on one a few blocks away. Walking low, she leaned against the edge and checked out their target through the lenses of her goggles, cycling through thermals and UV to get an impression. "Yeah, lotta heat coming from those vents up there. They have to be running a big time server in there. Windows are cool through, it's either around back or underground like I thought. Also guards. Two up top, two walking the perimeter. Third inside the door, can see the light of his datapad. Probably watching a game. Holocam on the entrance." Tucking back in, Kivah got her gear ready and unslung her bow to test the draw. "How do you want to call it?" She asked, staring into the eyes of Naamino's mask.

Though he puffed up ever so slightly at the compliment, Naami didn't allow it to shake his focus. Making haste to follow suit, the zabrak wordlessly conveyed that he understood and leapt after Kivah. The teen positioned himself lower over the speeder and punched the throttle, doing all he could to keep up.

A kind of meditative thrill overcame him as they wove through the city streets. Despite the low level buzz of ever present nerves, Naamino enjoyed the simple high he got from driving fast. Upon reaching their destination, the zabrak moved as stealthily as he could and listened intently. She laid out her observations and the masked teen mused silently on their options for a moment.

"Well, this mask would help with accuracy at a distance- I could probably Force blast the Holocam. But still leaves us deciding which route to pursue..."

He was very still and quiet for another long moment, before finally settling on the best path forward.

"As much as I dislike the idea of having to start high and work all the way down, it is probably to best bet. We go in low and everyone will be on us, too easy to be caught out in the open. Better to breach high, silence the few guards there and make our way down as slyly as we can. Might even manage to get a good sense of the layout once we are in."

The somewhat vulpine mask turned fully toward her and he cocked his head slightly in a silent, "Sound good?"

"Sounds good." She agreed, noticing that he'd taken her subtle input about maintaining secrecy into account as she repeated his words back to him. She could feel her heartbeat pounding in her chest to pulse up her neck, a pre-mission excitement that never really went away that she loved for the way it got her ready to move and act.

Setting off across the rooftops, Kivah lept from one building to the next, careful to sty away from landing pads and entryways down, places it would be natural to have a holocam or motion sensor. There was precious little for either of them to pick up in her shadowsilk and baffleweave suit, but she had to set an example of professionalism for Naamino. And she didn't want to accidentally lead him into leaving a sensor tail back to where they'd landed the bikes for an investigation to pick up, even if he'd turned on the blue witch to hide himself.

From the next roof over from their target building, Kivah drew an arrow and let loose, sending her first shot arcing high through the air to land among the cooling ducts. A total miss, nowhere near the guards. Just where she wanted it. A small icon blinked into existence in her tracker goggles a second later, local jamming was up. Selecting her next arrow, Kivah looked towards Naamino to make sure he was ready. She'd wait until the last moment before he attacked one of the two guards on the roof opposite them, and then rise up to quietly thwack the other with a stun arrow, rendering him unconscious.

And indeed, the zabrak did follow his companion's lead as adeptly as he could. Utilizing the full scope of his new mask, to the degree it was relevant to their job of course.

With the HUD pulled up to give him general enhanced tracking with eye movements, Naamino would need to experiment more with using Force abilities or less technologically advanced weapons in conjunction with it. For the time though, he was impressed with how much the mask complimented and enhanced his already keen senses. The tech cloaking for security systems was the thing he was most suspicious of, but he was trusting to Kivah Kivah that it would be sufficient if he was cautious.

He was hesitant to come out the gate using the repeater she'd entrusted to him, which was slung across his back, both for his lack of proficiency with the weapon but also the knowledge it could easily break their stealth. The zabrak determined he was best closing the distance and trusting his cathar companion to cover him. Waiting for the right moment in their trek across the opposite rooftop, Naami took a sprinting leap across the gap, landed with a roll and popped back up to his feet not far from one of the two guards.

The teen lunged, grabbing the guard and clapping a hand over their mouth before they could call out, controlling their weapon arm with his other hand. It was a near thing, a bit messier of a scuffle than he'd hoped for, but soon the zabrak had the near human in a sleeper hold on them. Their forms lowered slowly to the rooftop, and Naami held the grip a second or two longer to ensure the target really was out.

Unentangling himself, the teen quickly slapped the guard's own cuffs on them to ensure that even when they woke it would be a while before they went anywhere. He cast about, staying low and seeking confirmation that not only was the other guard down but Kivah was on her way.

When Naamino looked to check on Kivah's status, he found her near-invisible form checking the condition of the stun arrow she'd just unstuck from the guard she'd shot with it. "Works pretty good." She decided and tapped the tip against Naamino's own foe so he twitched on the ground. Taking stock of their situation, she decided what to do next. Since they were trying to be stealthy, she scanned the guards' comms with hers and pulled their data cylinders. Why break in when you could use the key?

"Here," She tossed one to Naamino. "I'm not sure what the protocol for visiting the fresher is, but they probably go a few times a night. Especially if they down caff like anyone to ever work the night shift." None of which seemed relevant on the surface, but was Kivah's way of explaining how she hoped opening the rooftop door wouldn't raise any suspicion if it were being monitored. "Lead us in, Hound." She was determined to let him take point on this, get experience, and confidence that he didn't need her to pull something like this off.

Besides, if something did go wrong, she was confident they could fight their way through. And that'd be fun too. Placing the stunner back in her quiver, she pulled another and knocked it, ready to follow the young man into the corporate black-site.

Blood already pumping hard, his were hearts hammering with the promise of more excitement after the initial thrill of a takedown. The masked Naamino merely nodded to Kivah Kivah and moved toward the door, data cylinder now in hand. He kept his left hand free on instinct, given that it was the one which provided him range if need be.

The zabrak paused only for a breath at the door, scanned the key-code and pulled the door open. That initial set of stairs led down to a landing and looked as if it would open on a hallway. Naamino moved with military training, clearing those initial areas, but seemed to pause at the threshold where a hallway would soon give way to options.

A semi-muffled cough echoed to where they lurked in the shadows and Naami pressed himself more firmly against the wall. It was clear that he was uncertain about what to do next. Whispering to comms, he barely breathed a few sparse words.

"Any idea where to go next? Or do we just go down, and through whoever we find?"
